How do we all pronounce our own/other people's contries. (particularly the odd ones. ohmy.gif)

Juranabaijan = Jer-ann-ah-bye-jahn.
Séyetana = Say-eh-tar-nar.
Fljótavík = Fl-oh-tah-vik.
Caerfyrddia = Care-fer-did-ee-ah.

I'm probably terrible with my pronunciantions. sad.gif

I've always thought of Fljótavík as Fyoh-ta-vik, the first syllable rhyming with the sound of 'do' in dog, otherwise I'd agree with your pronunciations of the others.

For the record FSR Rontvia is F-S-R-Ront-vee-uh

I've never tried pronouncing Fljotavik's name though, way too hard! sad.gif

I guess that looks more like it sounds, I'm just silentising the 'j' instead of the 'l' that you silentise! Dandy, confirmation plz? biggrin.gif

Batidas is pronounced ba-tee-das (I know, shocking!!! laugh.gif )

As for Fljótavík, I pronounce it was flo-ta-vik (flo sounding like "for").

Caerfyrddia I always thought was pronounced as "car-frid-ee-ya" ohmy.gif

laugh.gif I'm only just seeing that now, it's more of an 'Alice' sounding pronunciation rather than an 'Alesha' one!

Not even "bore da"? kink.gif To be fair, you were living in probably one of the most prominent English speaking areas of Wales. It only tends to be in the North West and South West where you'll hear welsh being spoken on a very regular basis.

A double 'd' in Welsh gives a 'v' sound, as there's no 'v' in the Welsh alphabet. We're a bit odd like that kink.gif

In case anyone is CONFUSED (they aren't) mine is pronounced: F - Y - R - Vodge - Vo - Dee - Nah

(vodge pronounced the same as dodge)

I'd never have guessed Caerfyrddia was pronounced like that! To be honest I prefer how I said it anyway: Care - fir - dee - uh.

Obviously Ashton is pronounced: Ash-ton.

The Ashtonise 'Áskorza' is pronounced: Ih-ss Korr-tsah (The R is rolled like in Norsk and the z is pronounced like the ts in tsar)

That's very different from how I thought it was pronounced (how do you get 'hee-yoon' out of 'hun'?) I've always pronounced it in my head as 'die-hoon'.

Persephonia is pronounced per-SEF-o-nee-a.
