BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ Kylie signs for BMG UK

Sounds good to me.

Turns down Universal and signs for BMG with old Parlophone friend Jamie Nelson

Posted by: slowdown73 19th December 2016, 07:51 PM

Lets hope they manage her better than Parlophone.

Posted by: pippa 19th December 2016, 11:51 PM

I am not going to get my hopes too high. I do remain optimistic about her working with Jamie Nelson. I have convinced myself the new album cannot be worse than Kiss Me Once and for that reason i am optimistic.

Kylie Minogue signs new record deal, New album expected this year

BY SHINEONANDON PUBLISHED 13 HOURS AGO
“We want to make a great, big, classic Kylie pop record.”

Kylie Minogue has signed a new record deal with BMG and is expected to release a new album on the label later this year.

After releasing her last 12 records on Parlophone in the UK, New BMG president Alexi Cory-Smith revealed in an interview with Music Week that Kylie has joined their roster along with a wave of other acts.

“We want to make a great, big, classic Kylie pop record, she said. “Thirty years she’s been in the business, and she’s better than ever before. There’s so many different opportunities and with our reach into multi-media the possibility of making a documentary or book with her – it’s all possible. She’s just the ultimate artist.”

Other acts who have recently been snapped up by the label include Texas, Nickelback and Blondie, who have recently announced details of their upcoming album, Pollinator. The label had a hugely successful 2016 with hit albums from Jack Savoretti, Blink-182 and Rick Astley‘s Number 1 album 50.

Kylie has notched up 22 Top 40s on the Official Albums Chart across her career, seven of which have reached Number 1. Her last album release on Parlophone was 2015’s festive collection Kylie Christmas, which peaked at Number 12 and was re-released last Christmas with additional songs.

I'm pleased Kylie has signed to a new label but let's get real - she is approaching 50 and doesn't get radio support like she once did so the chances of her having a big comeback are zilch. I hope I'm wrong but we'll see!

Posted by: Regina 3rd February 2017, 07:27 PM

More chance of it happening than there is of you not being a constant misery though.

Posted by: mr_pmt 3rd February 2017, 11:02 PM

I'm hoping it'll be this year, and I'm hoping it'll be a solid fanbase appeasing pop album and not fruitlessly chasing a commercial trend (please note Kylie: release a tropical house song and I am boycotting you)

Posted by: Regina 3rd February 2017, 11:33 PM

Tropical house feat Sean Paul please

Now it's time for her Cher-ish comeback... the last 4 years have been painful to watch

Personally, I've been loving her small EP releases cheer.gif

Is this a full contract or is she just licensing?

Let's hope they manage her better this time around on BMG - Anyone care to remember the Deconstruction years? (Some of her finest work botched with pushed back releases etc.,)

Posted by: pippa 20th February 2017, 03:03 PM

De Construction had no idea how to handle Kylie. Every release was botched up as have most of her recent releases with her current record label. It appears that neither Kylie or her team know how to hit the nail on the head when releasing new material.

They did reasonably well with KM94 to begin with. IP was a disaster but there were other things going on.

Posted by: pippa 21st February 2017, 02:33 PM

Yes, KM94 was on reflection handled reasonably well up until the awful choice for third single. With other great tracks on the album it is baffling to how they decided on Where has the Love Gone would be the single of choice over others.

Based on how Kylie;s singles perform now, the performance of Where Has The Love Gone would be satisfying for us to get now but when it charted it was seen as a big flop.

Posted by: Regina 21st February 2017, 02:44 PM

They went with Where Is The Feeling? laugh.gif I think it would have done better had they not waited for Kylie to be done with Biodome.

Posted by: pippa 21st February 2017, 02:50 PM

Where is The Feeling is what i meant to write, obviously where has the love gone is playing in my head!

Posted by: ___∆___ 5th August 2018, 03:31 PM

Interesting reading back on this now laugh.gif

I think BMG have done brilliantly - #1 Gold album, Top 40 single, Top 60 single and lots of physicals and remixes. The singles could have been handled better but I think we can say that many times throughout Kylie’s career (Timebomb anyone laugh.gif )

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 5th August 2018, 04:24 PM

We all think that after X, Kylie should've left.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th August 2018, 09:05 PM

Bmg have donr a great job except for the handling of golden the single.

Posted by: pippa 6th June 2019, 02:42 PM

How BMG handle the Greatest Hits release ( it is all looking promising) will be interesting.
They did extremely well with Golden (i would have switched the Christmas cassette for a new cd version).
That aside, they pushed Golden as much as they could.
The Greatest Hits will be a test to see if they can manage another successful album campaign.

Does anyone know if there's still a contract for Kylie with BMG after this year? I got the sense that she signed the record deal on an album-by-album basis.

Posted by: Medellíam 6th June 2019, 03:43 PM

Not sure what the contract is but I can see Kylie sticking with BMG; it just seems to benefit them both.

Posted by: pippa 6th June 2019, 03:57 PM

At the moment it make sense for Kylie and BMG to stay working together.
BMG appear to understand Kylie.

Posted by: Medellíam 6th June 2019, 04:03 PM

BMG seem to know how to market Kylie at this stage of her career and appear to give her creative freedom with her work, whilst Kylie's probably the biggest and most profitable artist that BMG have signed.

Posted by: pippa 6th June 2019, 05:47 PM

It appears a very positive working relationship which benefits both.

Posted by: ___∆___ 6th June 2019, 07:42 PM

It’s a long term deal - one of the (many) reasons Kylie went with them was due to the fact the own the back catalogue to her PWL and Deconstruction recordings, obviously this gives her a level of control over what happens with them going forward plus makes things such as the new GH simpler to release.

Posted by: Medellíam 6th June 2019, 07:54 PM

That's good to hear! I know we keep talking about it but would be great if we can get a collection of her bonus material released. Who has rights to the stuff that hasn't been officially released?

Posted by: pippa 6th June 2019, 08:13 PM

It is likely the ownership of such material is extremely mixed therefore making such a release almost impossible.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 6th June 2019, 10:46 PM

I hope that's not the case as there is potentially a really good double album that could be released.

Parlophone own anything she recorded with them (Apart from anything to do with ‘Kylie Christmas’ as she licensed it to them and retained the overall rights via her Darenote company). Everything else is now with BMG (PWL, Deconstruction & BMG) apart from the oddities she’s done over the years such as the Towa Tei collabs etc., So BMG hold the main goodies we want as loads has leaked from Parlophone.

Kylie has stopped the release of certain music in recent years (again one the reasons why her partnership with BMG works for her - if she wasn’t signed to them they could raid the Deconstruction vault and release whatever they wanted).
