Australia are confirmed to be taking part in Eurovision for the third time next May, however Jon Ola Sand has confirmed that they are still not a permanent participant and will be invited on a yearly basis for the foreseeable future. Can we just make them permanent as we all know they aren't just going to stop the invites now!!?
The Veronicas are top of the rumour mill this time round, and rumours are Delta was very much in the frame this year until Dami Im was substituted in with just a week to go before the Australian reveal so could she have saved herself for 2017? Who do you want to see represent Australia?
Delta please...and win
Dami back again, please.
If we are talking big Australian pop stars I would love Samantha Jade to do a fun upbeat pop number.
The Veronicas please!
The people want Samantha Jade, they will get Anthony Calleo or whatever he is called.
Delta and The Veronicas would both be great choices but of the two I'd prefer the latter next year as I think that would give a bigger contrast to Dami.
Delta and The Veronicas are two of my all-time favourite acts so I'd not exactly be unhappy with either! Hoping for another great entry from them.
I'd say someone who isn't well known in the rest of the world. Samantha Jade is a good shout, maybe Jessica Mauboy? Idk
Delta Goodrem please, with a song sounds like "Enough"
RICKI-LEE PLEASE. It'd be nice for her to get a career boost. I'd love Jessica Mauboy too, they'd definitely be my top 2 choices.
I read someone elsewhere suggest Justice Crew and I can see that being a very believable suggestion as they would be a different type of act to a male and female soloist that we've had so far, and they have various ethnic backgrounds which SBS of course love due to what their channel stands for. Looks like they have had a lot of success but it slightly dried up last year, so like Dami could do with the boost. I have a feeling it could be a group this time round, SBS do seem to be a broadcaster that wants to be very "equal", so The Veronicas or Justice Crew could be the ones!
Omg PLEASE not Justice Crew. Anyone but Justice Crew.
Justice Crew strike me as being an act very popular in Australia and the rest of the world just not getting.
Isaiah Firebrace who won the recent total shambles series of X Factor has "put his name forward", no thanks Boring isn't the word
Has Australia announced a date for when they'll reveal who's representing them?
They haven't! I expect it will be the first week of March again if the last two years are anything to go by.
Thanks.
I'm thinking it'll be Delta, Samantha Jade, Jessica Mauboy or Cyrus. All of Australia's participants have been signed to Sony Music so far. Though that could just be a coincidence.
Do you know what Delta's schedule for The Voice is this year? Surely she will be a contender if she has the spare time.
The series doesn't start until May I think so they'd be filming in a couple of months. I'm sure she can have the couple of weeks off for Eurovision as the time she'd be in Ukraine would be just the first two weeks of it airing, they'd have filmed the first couple of rounds by then I'd have thought.
I hope it's Samantha or Jessica but I suspect it will be Cyrus.
Maybe The Veronica's if we're lucky.
Yeah I think Cyrus for sure, they pushed him so hard and he hasn't really happened so I feel like they'll give him this last little push
I dunno. They released 'The River' to radio here. Feels like they could be willing to give Delta a push again here
Australia are starting up the hype machine again, so we should know the jig within the next two weeks. At this point I'm 75% sure they're going with Isaiah, partly because they'll want to switch it up with another man and also on a racial level to have someone of aboriginal (?) descent which I guess is all in SBS's remit. Also, his most recent single has actually got as high as number 15 in Sweden and 21 in Denmark so Sony probably want to try and push/launch him internationally.
If they can go with some basic uptempo soulpop like 'Tonight Again' then that'll do because frankly we need one of those numbers at this stage in the season.
I'm not sure how I feel about him. I guess Sony will want to push him as his winners single didn't do very well. I really wish it was Samantha Jade though.
Isaiah is completely void of any charisma, performance ability or star quality. He's a very very good vocalist, but any number of potential Australian artists are! Pretty much his only uptempo X Factor performance was his weakest, he basically did a Cyrus and won off of one brilliant performance in week 1 and getting away with everything afterwards.
It would make sense though to carry on Australia's diversity, either a group or an Aboriginal male. I'd rather they went for Jess Mauboy as far as Aboriginals go but hey.
The song and artist will be revealed on Tuesday 7th March at 6:30am UK time.
I imagine it will be Isaiah and with his winner's single that has apparently had some success in Scandinavia and The Netherlands already, he's releasing a music video for it in the next week or two by the looks of it.
I like the song, it's in the style of Frans but less "chilled house" or whatever you would call the electronic beats in If I Were Sorry. Seems like a solid low top 10-er if they do indeed go for it.
Omg they better not just use that :/ It won't be the worst in the final but it's one of those songs that I just can't give a shit about either way. It's like Frans without the divisive vocals, ofc I hated Frans but at least it had huge appeal to those who were the other side to me. This is just tedium.
One Frans was more than enough to want to exterminate them all. We don't need another
Tina Arena is a new rumour. I'd be fine with her over Isaiah for sure I suppose she fits the variety bill too, if we're gonna roll with that, because she's an older woman.
Julia and Sam have stepped down as commentators!

Isaiah is odds-on favourite to be the representative, I like him and his voice so he'd be a good choice even if the pure pop fan in me would love The Veronicas. I really hope they do go with It's Gotta Be You, I've really grown to love it and I definitely see it in the top 3 in Kyiv as things stand. Maybe this has been a long-term plan and SBS/Sony have strategically made this song already be a European Spotify success ahead of time? Australia and Sweden are best friends after all and they may fancy pulling a Frans on Spotify.
It won't be Samantha Jade as she's in London currently so won't be there for the announcement. So many bitter Betties on the Facebook pages about Australia today.
I'm hoping the late Tina Arena rumour can check out, she's not the most exciting but I'll just be so disappointed if it really is Isaiah, especially with It's Gotta Be You which I just cannot get into :/ It just feels like the Eurovision equivalent of being really cheap in BJSC by sending a European hit, just because it's done ok in Sweden and Denmark. It's just that in the case of Australia they can easily send a big local act with an amazing pop song, as they have for the past two years, so it's a disappointment to have a song like this that's already out anyway.
Didn't Tina Arena just recently announce a GH album?
I wouldn't mind Isaiah - if he got another song.
Ooh yay, another ballad! He has a good voice but I can't really see this being much of a televoters pick...low top ten?
And I will have to wait another year for Delta/The Veronicas/Sheppard etc!
Not the act I wanted to follow on from Dami 😭
Well Semi 1 is going to have a lively start, all the songs picked so far are ballads!
It's generic radio fodder and certainly doesn't live up to Guy and Dami.
It's Gotta Be You is miles better too
It's a bit better than Gotta Be You but he is just so drainingly boring I would have bet money it'd have been a ballad and here we go.
I liked that more on first listen than It's Gotta Be You, it's not massively different but it's a pleasant song, room to grow too.
Urgh. Major no.
Gutted Julia stepped down too, she was such a good commentator
I can't get over how much he looks like Alessia Cara
See, I really didn't care for his winner's single so this is actually a slight improvement for me! Still only on the Okay-Good borderline for me and I doubt he's got the talents of someone like Dami Im (which in fairness, few human beings do) to elevate it in a live performance.
Sweden, Azerbaijan and Montenegro, it's ALL ON YOU!
I'm struggling to see this top 10, if it does it will be like 9th because it's a year with little competition. If this was last year for example he'd have been eaten up. Unless he's drastically improved since X Factor, he has 0 stage presence and charisma, he's very much like a Voice contestant rather than X Factor.
I never really raved over Tonight Again or Sound Of Silence like everyone else did, but this is nevertheless a significant step down in quality, at least in terms of performer and melody. I can't envisage another top five finish for them.
Even the big guns are really sending underwhelming entries this year, I don't know what's going on. *cue Sweden selecting Nano*
I'm relying on Serbia for a banger tbh, of course we have Wiktoria from Sweden which really should get the ticket but this is such a lacklustre year and Australia delivered one of the final blows :/
I'm alright with it, he's got a fairly compelling voice and it's well-produced.
My main problem is he's become the latest of thousands of singers to market himself with another personality-sucking mononym. Firebrace is a second name that really stands out and no, Isaiah isn't the most common name either but it's a missed opportunity.
I was hoping it was going to be It's Gotta Be You in the end, I'd really grown to love that and it could've been on for a top 3 finish. That said, I like this song too and perhaps it will grow on me like his first single has done.
I actually think this is a better studio version song that Dami ever was, it took ages to get used to the over repetitive and slightly clunky Sound of Silence chorus whereas this feels more natural. I also love his voice, it is very Sam Smith but without the high-pitched whine that Sam sometimes has. From what Liam says, I doubt Isaiah will match Dami's live performance but I can see this low top 10 in the final at the moment.
Iz are you referring to poor Emma of Finland
Judging by eurovision.tv, Anja Nissen is dropping her last name for Kyiv too!
any criticism of Sound of Silence will result in a 0 in the Buzzrate.
dead 2 me
This is about his best performance, I really feel like he only won because there was literally nobody else good enough I suppose it's a ballad and he can hardly jump around and light up the stage but he's just so dull to watch.
I'm unsure how to predict it because as I said it's not a vintage year so he may get top 10, but this will 100% be their lowest finish.
8th in the final.
7th Heaven have got their hands on this
