28th November 2016
It's a 3rd week on top for the gorgeously romantic Robbie bonus deluxe album track, When You Know. Robbie is one of the under-rated lyricists in pop, witty and romantic and biting whenever he needs each or all, and when he's paired with a top tunesmith like Guy Chambers he's unbeatable - funnily enough (and I didn't check or have any previous inkling) Guy Chambers is back on board on this track. Quality tells. The Weeknd's follow-up Daft Punk single enters the 40 (I Feel It Comin' replacing Starboy in the 40) but that's shaded by the album track Secrets in my charts, in at 2, equalling his previous peak position. The track is basically a fab rewrite of The Romantics' American smash Talking In My Sleep, covered very well by Bucks Fizz in the UK, with samples of Tears For Fears fab Pale Shelter. TFF get no "featuring" credit on the track, but as they are clearly singing the hook they do in my book, and peak higher than the original top 5 single. Highest climber is the SO Prince-at-his-best stylish track from Childish Gambino, Redbone is sultry and delish, and up 64 places to 4. AKA actor/writer/comedian Donald Glover, he's going to play the young Lando Calrissian in the next Han Solo movie. Talented! Fab. Talking of sultry and delish, shooting up to 20, it's Coldcut getting their first top 20 in 25 years with an assist from Roots Manuva finally getting there after almost 2 decades of minor occasional chart entries. Rag'n'bone Man is back, thanks to X Factor giving the pan-European smash a profile at long last, the Brighton-based singer-songwriter hit my top 20 back in August and may actually get a UK top 40 Streaming hit months after he had a top 40 sales hit with it. Streaming is so rubbish. I suggest everyone play my charts instead, SO much more interesting and varied Like Noah Cyrus and Labrinth, quirky and yet great, odd drop drop stylee. In one fell swoop Noah has outdone her sis Miley and dad Billie Ray in terms of being interesting. Hey John,
Must check out Childish Gambino sometime, it's been doing the rounds. I see Rag'n'Bone Man has re-entered too, and he looks to be getting himself a hit this week too! Noah Cyrus & Labrinth's duet is quite nice too. I can see that doing well in 2017. If you'd like to view my own personal chart, created 25th November 2016, the link is HERE. I'd love to hear your views! Good chart from you this week, thanks for sharing! |

Hi Jason, Thanks and yes I do love Robbie (got me tickets) and he's another one entering later The Weeknd track is an old TFF hit single (Pale Shelter) sampled over the top of a rewrite of an old song by The Romantics/Bucks Fizz. Most of it is The Weeknd, but the hookie bits are old. I forgive the X Factor everything for making Rag'n'Bone Man a hit at last.... Glad you like Noah Cyrus, me too. I'm shocked The Weeknd wasn't an easy chart-topper, I guess (apart from Little Mix fans) that younger music fans have given up on albums entirely and just play the best tracks (so the single charts get invaded instead). Worst of both worlds, no album sales, and big names hogging singles charts positions.. |

Thanks AW, Childish Gambino has just made the US charts (hooray!) and Rag'n'bone Man the UK charts (hooray!), so a bit of hope for great unusual music still! cheers john |
