Pretty much none of The Smiths' material is political? At least half his solo career is completely self-centered as well.

Have to agree with Charlie. There are a few tracks that are political but he was hardly Billy Bragg

OK, perhaps not poltical as in 'House of Commons', but there's still a strong undercurrent of social commentary - look at two of the album titles : 'Meat Is Murder' and 'The Queen Is Dead'...

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by that but given the vast majority of the band's output fell into either whimsical ("Sheila Take A Bow") or whiny ("Last Night I Dreamt Somebody Loved Me") I don't really think you have a leg to stand on.

To be fair vidcapper does have a point - didn't Morrissey say that Meat Is Murder or The Queen Is Dead was against the Thatcher government?

Bit besides the point when he wrote a song called "Margaret On The Guillotine", my point was that it was the exception.

One doesn't generally post a picture of a facepalm and accompany it with a *facepalm*.

Doesn't someone generally have to be saying something stupid when you facepalm?

I'd like to think he said this with a tinge of irony - either that or it's some backdoor promotion for an upcoming album?

Stop the bickering y'all and just listen to The Smiths. You'll be much happier.

That didn't work for me in the 80's, so it's unlikely to now...

Why had I never listened to that song you posted before (only heard the cover by Dum Dum Girls)?! It's absolutely amazing. I might just introduce myself to The Smiths now.
