They released “Tell Somebody” this week, shaping up to be a rly great album I think. : )
Reminds me a bit of M83s “Outro” (final track on the album maybee?) |

I need to revisit 'Geronimo' as I didn't get into it very much, but quickly fell in love with 'I Saw' (personal chart #1 and everything *.*) and now 'Tell Somebody' is a stunner too

So this album is fantastic! First 'no skip' album of the year for me so an early contender for AOTY quite possibly ~ so many of these songs are just really hypnotic and joyful. I actually found 'Geronimo' quite underwhelming when it first came out as well but I liked it a lot more than I remembered hearing it again on the album, 'I Saw' and 'Tell Somebody' however were both really instant singles for me and both sounding glorious on the album, the bit where the backing vocals kick in on the back end of 'I Saw' is a goosebumps moment in particular (as is just the entirety of 'Tell Somebody' really). 'Rice' I think is actually my least favourite song on the album so an odd choice to be the last single before the album came out but I do still like it and it makes for a solid introduction before 'I Saw' really sets the stage for the quality of the rest of the album. 'Drum', 'Sink Or Swim' and 'Ululation' stick out the most from the album tracks for me off the bat but I really liked all of them! The first half of 'Shoot Me Down' was reminding me of James Blake's early songs ('CMYK' era)
(also love the album cover btw) ((and hooray at this charting as high as #7, quite a surprise after none of their previous albums even went top 20, perhaps it's just down to the continued collapse of the market but it's still great to see)) |

Glad that you are enjoying it Bré! I'm also very much loving “Drum” and pretty much the rest of the album really, it can be pretty overwhelming at times but there are shades of the frenetic and powerful White Men Are Black Men Too which was previously my favourite album of theirs and I think Heavy Heavy may overtake it. If you get the chance to see them live I would definitely go, saw them at the Roundhouse in Camden and loved it, really felt the music.
“Geronimo” was a personal chart #1 for me, it took a while to grow on me but I really love it now- their performance of it at Bristol Rough Trade was beautiful and it works so well leading out from “Tell Somebody” but yeah I think “I Saw” remains my fave single overall. |
