WBBM-FM, a US radio station, has added this song from Shawn Mendes as their Hot Pick on https://www.allaccess.com/top40-mainstream/hot-picks, so looks like it's going to be released next.

I thought we might be getting something new sooner rather than later given how the Illuminate era seemed to stop dead after Mercy but I didn't think we'd be hearing news quite so soon, this is really exciting!

Why did they give up on Illuminate after single 2? It did decently.

I don't think they are giving up on Illuminate and it could be a re-release of the album instead.
Anyway, it should be mentioned that in the last days of January, "Lights On" (*) was added by another US station, KYLD-FM, as their Hot Pick, so there were intentions to release that track as the next single, but I guess it didn't happen because "Mercy" was still doing well on US pop radio, peaking last month, so I assume his label scrapped that idea and they want to go with something new this time.
(*) Initially, it was labeled as "Lights", so I thought it was a new song, but it was updated to "Lights On" days later.

Been confirmed that Shawn Mendes is releasing a brand new single this month.

For now, it’s not confirmed if the song is the first taste of his next project or there’s an upcoming re-release on the way. “Holding Me Back” will be available on digital retailers and streaming services later this month.

I guess it's only a matter of time before the biggest Canadian, Justin Bieber, follows suit to have another mass Canadian chart invasion with Drake & Shawn Mendez taking over! Mr Buble may also make a guest appearance.

That title just seems too long and clunky, 'Holding Me Back' sounds better on its own but obviously I'll wait to properly judge the song itself.

This is included as Track 1 on a re-release of Illuminate!
It's surprisingly upbeat, liking it a lot.

It's just one of those lazy re-releases like when the Tinashe version of Slumber Party got added to a Glory re-release really. There's no other new tracks and probably no physical edition, they've just added this at the beginning 
kinda begs the question of "what's the point" :')

Yes at upbeat Shawn being back, this is already up there with Stitches and Treat You Better for me, that'll make a great trio of tracks from him! So glad to see it doing so well on iTunes already too, would love it to be a similar sized smash to those. WHY is he so cute too

I was expecting better based on the hype comments in here, but I'm sure it'll probably grow.
I still love 'Stitches' and 'Mercy', the latter of which I think is firmly my favourite now.

A lot more instant for me than 'Treat You Better' was and without the kind of awkward gender power play issues thematically that TYB had, so I'm definitely a fan. I know he gets a bit of critique for his voice sometimes - and no one's saying he's a world class vocalist or anything, but he's really strong vocally on this. There's enough power there to really sell it.
I hope this has a fair shot at #1 over the coming weeks with sales so low, Ed steadily declining, Clean Bandit probably soon too as well and little competition elsewhere (I can only think of that foreign language track with Bieber in throwing a spanner in the works).

For me his holy trinity are his three big hit up-tempo track, wish he'd do more of them I have a soft spot for The Vamps track though (and the Vamps in general, they've had tune after tune tbh since their debut)
