So we've heard one album track from FOUR already, and it seems to have had a very good reception on here. Do we think it would be a successful single though?
I think it *could* do well with some promo and a good video, it's similar to Little Things in a way and it would surely get airplay from MOR stations. Not sure I'd pick it as the *lead* single but single #2/3 could work! |

Voted no, I absolutely adore the track but I can't see it being a commercial hit really.
If they were to release it I imagine a 60's 'The Promise' style video though! |

I think Fireproof would be better left as an album track, but a fantastic tune though

I heard it on the radio the other week and it sounded great! I think it could be single worthy, but not lead-worthy - so I went for "single #2 or later". Obviously we haven't heard the rest of the material yet to judge this properly, maybe it'll be one of the worst tracks on the album! (And if it is, the album would therefore be incredible)!

Well it's more based on the song alone, I'm sure an educated guess would suffice?

Does sound single-worthy IMO, so I'd say either the second single or later in the campaign (not that I think they should stretch any further than 3 singles this period if they want to avoid a 'Midnight Memories'/'You & I' scenario).

Well it's more based on the song alone, I'm sure an educated guess would suffice? Do you get my point though? As a standalone song without hearing anything else from the album, it's pretty fab, but for all we know it could be the best song on the album or the worst! So in different contexts it could absolutely sound like a lead single, or it could even be the very last song you'd choose to be released off the album. So it's hard to say really. But like I said, it kind of sounds like it could be a single released at some point in the campaign, maybe not distinct enough to lead? Will be interesting to hear whether 'Steal My Girl' fits that description! |

The more I listen to it, the more I think it would make a good lead single (not to say it should be the lead, though, as that's all relative to the rest of their material, as Jay said). I think 1D are in a very privileged position whereby a risk like this would pay off. I certainly don't think it'd damage their brand at all - at worst it'd underperform commercially compared to previous lead singles but I can only see it having a positive effect on their 'credibility', moving forward.
Does sound single-worthy IMO, so I'd say either the second single or later in the campaign (not that I think they should stretch any further than 3 singles this period if they want to avoid a 'Midnight Memories'/'You & I' scenario). Out of interest, what do you mean by this scenario? I don't feel two consecutive lowish-peaking post-album singles have damaged them at all. 'Midnight Memories' should never have been a single (IMO) but the album was selling consistently during that period and it's not as if the singles were publicised flops or anything. Unless you're concerned with them only charting in the top 10 with their singles, I don't think it matters. |

Unless you're concerned with them only charting in the top 10 with their singles, I don't think it matters. Of course it hasn't damaged them at all, but both releases were just a bit messy ('You & I' seemed to be handled a little better than 'Midnight Memories', though). If they put enough effort into promoting post-album singles so they can at least try to avoid low peaks like the last album's suffered, then it's worth it. I think with 'Midnight Memories' and 'You & I' it was just a case of "let's just throw a video out and see what happens". |
