ABBA GOLD: SURVIVOR

I’ve taken it upon myself to launch my own survivor poll type thing, this one is for one of the biggest selling album of all times and also (sort of) coincides with the buzz around Mamma Mia again. The rules are simple please vote for YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE and every couple of days I will eliminate the song with the most votes until we have a winner.

Posted by: Dexton 12th February 2018, 03:34 PM

Hardest decision I’ve ever had to make tongue.gif

Posted by: Leonardo 12th February 2018, 03:36 PM

I concur, hopefully this will have an unexpected winner, I went for I Have A Dream this round because it’s one of the few I skip when listening through.

Posted by: Klumzee 12th February 2018, 04:07 PM

the ultimate survivor! ohmy.gif

went for 'I Have A Dream' as it's the only song of theirs that verges on 'too cheesy' for me (which is pretty hard to come by in my books).

Hoping for the 11/10 top three of Gimme/Voulez/Winner heart.gif

THEY'RE ALL GOOD

I Have A Dream is slightly below par so that one first.

does your mother know/one of us to survive as long as possible, I hope something can topple a few of the big hitters early on to make it more exciting

Posted by: danG 12th February 2018, 05:05 PM

will go for The Name Of The Game as I don't recall that at all so it can't be all that good. would also be happy with I Have A Dream and Does Your Mother Know leaving.

Posted by: gavindeejay 12th February 2018, 05:05 PM

Voted 'One Of Us'.

Posted by: danG 12th February 2018, 05:16 PM

and because I have it to hand, here's the chart run for the album which is the longest running in UK history at 823 weeks (~15 years, 9 months) and counting *.*

Likely to go back in the top 10 this year cos of the Mamma Mia film too.

Posted by: Chez Wombat 12th February 2018, 05:21 PM

Voulez-Vous is a bit below the others, as is Lay All Your Love on Me but I sense I'll be alone in that for a while.

Posted by: HausofTroye 12th February 2018, 07:22 PM

Amazing idea!! Voting The Name Of The Game first.

Posted by: Popchartfreak 12th February 2018, 07:29 PM

Fab idea! A sort of Balloon Game (usually it's in pairs and one gets chucked out) smile.gif

Voted any second...

Went for Does Your Mother Know - had I know the standing results I would have gone for one likely to go out instead of the classy, under-rated genius that Is Name Of The Game - it MUST be in Mamma Mia 2. So Good the Fugees nicked it...

Posted by: Brett-Butler 12th February 2018, 08:19 PM

Voted for The Name of the Game. Really hope "I Have a Dream" doesn't go out - I went into a recording studio when I was 10 and recorded a version of that song, and still have a copy of it that I shall not be sharing.

I can't believe someone voted for Knowing Me Knowing You in the first round! Easily my top ABBA song of the bunch ohmy.gif

Posted by: King Rollo 12th February 2018, 09:04 PM

Not a huge fan but they made consistently good pop songs so there wasn't one on that list I really disliked. I went for Super Trouper as the chorus is irritating.

Posted by: Jade 12th February 2018, 10:16 PM

Ooh how exciting *.* I have just re-listened to the whole album to refresh my memory and have selected 'The Name Of The Game' first.

These are literally their 2 best songs, are you ok? x

Not really a fan of ABBA, there are only a couple of songs from them that are more than just tolerable for me. I'll vote in this while I'm here but I'm going for what will be an even more unpopular opinion, 'Dancing Queen'. Oops.

To their credit, I do feel like I know every single song on this list reasonably well which is good going for a band I have never really voluntarily listened to ('Lay All Your Love On Me' aside).

Well, The Name Of The Game was recorded for the original Mamma Mia movie with Amanda Seyfried singing it but it got cut, so i’d imagine it might be in the sequel.

I'm not usually a huge fan of their genre, but they were masters of making perfect pop songs, I like almost everything here.

Posted by: Bré 12th February 2018, 10:46 PM

'Lay All Your Love On Me' is their only 'perfect' pop song, bye x

Don't worry, I'm probably going to be gunning for Dancing Queen shortly. It's not the best on here by any stretch and the overplay worsens that.

let's not go for Dancing Queen until we get their real overrated song out, Mamma Mia that is (I don't dislike it, but no way does it deserve to be considered one of their two signature songs).

Posted by: Bré 12th February 2018, 11:45 PM

'I Have A Dream' would be my second choice, maybe I should have not been a contrarian for this round since 'Dancing Queen' has no chance at all of going out any time soon tongue.gif

Posted by: liamk97 13th February 2018, 12:46 AM

Went for 'I Had a Dream' but 'Thank You for the Music' was close. This is going to get real hard real quick though.

'SOS', 'Gimme x3', 'Voulez-Vous' and 'Does Your Mother Know' to do as well as possible please.

Posted by: Esmerelda 13th February 2018, 11:23 AM

Went for I Have A Dream. I don't hate it like much of the ABBA fan community seems to to, but it is still the weakest on Gold.

ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif ohmy.gif

The top 3 best-selling albums of all-time in the UK would seem to suggest popular opinion isn't with you tongue.gif

Try some of the album tracks: The Visitors, Soldiers, Eagle, Arrival, When All Is said And Done - better than a few tracks on Abba Gold. Especially the soaring, majestic Eagle. smile.gif

Posted by: Dexton 13th February 2018, 03:14 PM

I Have A Dream, Does Your Mother Know, One Of Us, and The Name Of The Game to be bottom 4 please. Everything after that I have literally no idea *.* Can't even predict a possible winner because almost everything here is a solid 12/10
