There are rumours abound that Kanye is hosting a listening party for his 10th studio album as soon as this coming week. Some are even suggesting that the album could be dropping very soon after that.

Jesus Is King was a major misstep but I have grown to really really adore The Life of Pablo and even ye over the past few months. The former is a great consistent listen and the latter is heartbreaking and brutally honest about his bipolar condition.

I hope this is more in line with the insane quality of albums 1 through to 8!!

QUOTE
Def Jam Recordings has appeared to confirm that a new Kanye West album is on the way.

Speculation built over the weekend that West will drop a new album in the near future, following rumours of an exclusive listening event for the record being held in Las Vegas.

Claims of West’s new album being close to release first came from internet personality Justin Laboy, who said that the rapper played the album for both him and professional basketball player Kevin Durant over the weekend.

“Kanye played his new album for me & @KDTrey5 last night in Vegas,” Laboy wrote.

Today (July 19) a Twitter post by West’s label Def Jam read: “YZY SZN”. The “YZY” part presumably refers to one of West’s nicknames, Yeezy.

There has been no official confirmation, however, nor any details of a release date.

Laboy added in his tweets yesterday (July 18): “The production is light years ahead of it’s [sic]time, and the bars sound like he’s broke & hungry trying to get signed again. Any artist who plan on dropping soon should just push it back”

He also shared a photo of what is allegedly West playing music for him and Durant.

In two further individual tweets, Laboy claimed that West’s new album will be arriving at some point this week.

“Kanye West album is really done,” he wrote, “When it drops this week, we probably not going to listen to anything else for a while..”

It's difficult to get excited for new material from Kanye as who knows what the quality or length of it will be? But I'm always interested to see what he comes up with good or bad and will probably cherry-pick the decent songs from the bunch! There was some bits of Jesus Is King I did enjoy in the end. Follow God and Selah were my faves.

I'd imagine it'll be upon us pretty soon, he's not one to quality check laugh.gif

Posted by: Bré 20th July 2021, 06:43 PM

'JESUS IS KING' was certainly not his best work to say the least and I hope he will be moving away from that sound a bit again but it wasn't a completely unsalvageable era, 'Follow God' and 'Use This Gospel' were both excellent songs and there were a few other solid tracks on there too. 'Wash Us In The Blood' was a great single too so I still think there's great potential for the next album to be better. (We don't talk about 'Nah Nah Nah')

Donda is the title of his upcoming album due out this Friday. "No Child Left Behind" is previewed in a new Beats By Dre commercial featuring Sha'Carri Richardson.

I can’t believe it’s actually happening.
I have such high hopes for this but I’m going to go in with an open mind because I don’t want to be disappointed again :’)

Haven’t listened back to Jesus is King or ye at all really, they were both such a step down in quality from all his other albums. But then 808s / MBDTF / Yeezus is the strongest run of albums from any artist ever for me, so it was always going to be hard to follow those up. I liked Pablo a lot but that didn’t come close to the holy trinity either. I’m hoping that because he’s taken a while with this one (and there’s obviously been a lot going on in his personal life…), this one will be back to his old standard, because he really is incredible when he’s at his best.

Still so weird to read that about Kanye.
You’re completely right, but it’s just odd because he was such a perfectionist before.

Posted by: HausofWillow 21st July 2021, 06:38 AM

I'd say every album of his has immense quality assurance except for Jesus Is King! ye is an odd one because it's so short but it works like that because the subject matter in it is quite harrowing and too much more of it might be a bit much.

My hiipe is SKY HIGH.

From Billboard on last night's event:

QUOTE
Kanye Dips Into His Nostalgic Bag For His Outfit Of The Day

Kanye knows a thing or two about fashion, so when it came to his outfit choice on Thursday, all eyes were glued to what he'd pulled out of his wardrobe. Dressed in a red puffer jacket from his upcoming YZY Gap line, a tan mask, red pants and a pair of unreleased Adidas Yeezy 1020V, Kanye came ready to show out. Fans may remember Kanye pulled out a similar outfit for his performance at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards. He wore a red suit and a matching pair of Kanye West x Louis Vuitton Don sneakers.

Kanye Takes The Bandage Off His Wounds Regarding His Family

Emotion is something Kanye doesn't lack, and there are several songs on DONDA where he leaves his emotions all on the table. There was one record where Kanye repeatedly said he was losing his family, a straightforward response to all the commotion regarding his divorce from Kim Kardashian. Kim filed for divorce in February after months of rumors surrounding issues between her and Kanye.

Chicago Gets Their Kanye and Lil Durk Dream Collaboration

Lil Durk is one of the most popular rappers in the game today and another sign that Chicago breeds music talent. In January, Lil Durk paid tribute to his fellow Chicagoan with the song "Kanye Krazy," and the accompanying music video featured Durk recreating various iconic Kanye videos. Fans called for a collab between the two, and they finally got their wish when Kanye played a song featuring Durkio and Jeremih off the new album. Just last week, Lil Durk said he missed the flight to record a verse for Kanye.

Lil Baby, Baby Keem & Roddy Ricch Show Out With Their Scene-Stealing Features

DONDA is stacked full of features from Pusha T, Playboi Carti, Lil Durk, Pop Smoke and more. Three features got some of the biggest reactions of the night, though. Baby Keem, Roddy Ricch and Lil Baby delivered stellar verses on their respective tracks, with Kanye giving them more than enough real estate to get their bars off. This is the first time any of these rappers have gotten on a track together with Kanye and they didn’t disappoint.

JAY-Z and Kanye Confirm Their Reconciliation On DONDA

Kanye closed the night in a major way when the last track he played surprised everyone in attendance and watching at home. The song featured an electric guitar-laden beat with Kanye singing about going to jail with an unexpected guest feature. JAY-Z crept onto the track with a smooth flow that announced the possible return of The Throne. The moment is a relief, especially after things seemed to go sour between the two after Ye went on his infamous rants during the Saint Pablo Tour.

Posted by: dandy* 21st August 2021, 08:38 AM

It’s already had about 350 different release dates. It’ll arrive whenever it does. Kanye’s not happy just pushing hip hop boundaries any longer, he’s now pushing the boundaries of time too *.*

Kanye West‘s new album ‘DONDA’ will be released following his listening event in Chicago next week, according to his manager.

The rapper and producer’s much-anticipated tenth studio album has already been previewed during two listening events at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, though the record is still yet to be released.

The third ‘DONDA’ event will be held at Soldier Field stadium in Chicago on Thursday (August 26). The album is slated to arrive the day after (August 27), according to a listing on Apple Music.

West’s manager Bu Thiam has now confirmed the rapper will “absolutely” release ‘DONDA’ after next week’s listening event, although he didn’t confirm the exact release date.

I won't believe it until it's out. Even then I'll only half believe it.

I've half randomly chosen Kanye as an artist to ensure that I've listened to all albums from (had only really listened to MBDTF + Jesus Is King in full before this) so I think I'll have that done by the time it releases.

not that I was rushing or anything

I'm about half way through and for an album that's been worked on for so long there feels like little quality control on this album laugh.gif

Playboi Carti & Lil Yachty have been pure trash so far.

Posted by: LewisGT 29th August 2021, 02:41 PM

All the songs I didn't like were at the start, the album really hits it's stride for the last 2/3rds. Ok Ok pt. 2 is so much better than pt. 1!

The album is still overly long but there's some great moments. Jesus Lord was my absolutely favourite from my first listen.

Posted by: sn👠ke 29th August 2021, 07:48 PM

I really like the song Jail with its 80s rock style instrumental.

I like Off The Grid too - great drill production to it and sounds a bit like it samples The Specials - Ghost Town in the background laugh.gif

The song No Child Left Behind is great too, some Ultravox - Vienna style vibes there I think with the production.

Posted by: HausofWillow 30th August 2021, 04:54 PM

Listened to the album a couple of times. It's such a long, extensive listen but I certainly have my highlights from it. There are some truly GREAT moments: 'Jail' is absolutely brilliant, Jay Z's feature is an album highlight, 'Off The Grid' is a monster BANGER of a tune and i'm happy it's smashing on streaming and 'Jesus Lord' is beautiful - that closing monologue is very powerful. There are some incredible moments throughout the rest of it too, lyrically it's pretty great but of course the issue is the length. It's the length of a film - that isn't usually a problem but when there's a fair bit of a filler it really does make the experience a chore at times. I always listen to albums from start to end, do I make an exception with this and create a shorter playlist with the highlights?

I am so glad we have the album though - it is farrrrr from his best/probably bottom 2 oops, but as mentioned there are some brilliant moments. The production is F I R E throughout.

I’m thinking of his chart longevity lol, I think though that’s why Kanye has him on it overall as a two fingers to certain groups.

Not bad this album on first listen but there’s a lack of female voices on it for me.

This is... such an odd take? blink.gif Do all albums you listen to have a fair representation of male and female voices? Looking at the top 5 albums, where are the male voices on Sour or Solar Power for example - is that an issue? It's an album by a male artist, I wouldn't expect female vocals on it (even though this actually does have a female featuring on two songs). Confused~

Posted by: blacksquare 31st August 2021, 09:14 PM

An album dedicated to his mother filled with homophobes and men accused of sexual assault — there is a limit to what I can defend and a limit to how much I can separate art from the artist.

Beyond that — it's an arduous listen with barely a highlight to mention. It's just not worth the effort and mental gymnastics required.

I don’t think Sour or Solar Power are comparable here really. The list of features on DONDA is never-ending, yet the number of women who feature is minuscule. That, along with the features from DaBaby and Marilyn Manson… really isn’t a good look.

I haven’t managed to get through it all yet, but I do like quite a bit of what I have heard. There’s nothing to rival any of his best, but I’m liking it a lot more than Ye and Jesus is King. Still, I can’t see myself returning to the album as a whole much at all (if ever?) because of the length, which is a shame, as I love a Kanye album to be a full experience.

This album is mental!

Posted by: Bré 18th September 2021, 10:48 PM

There is a great album in this if you trim off the fat - tracks 11 to 16 are a rough / fillery patch in particular, there are still a few songs that sounded like leftovers from 'JESUS IS KING' and the part 2 versions are really not needed, the only one that is a notable improvement on the original is 'Ok Ok Pt 2' so I'd just put that in place of the original and leave off the other 3. A good handful of solid bangers ('Off The Grid', 'Hurricane', 'Junya', 'New Again'), a couple of powerful emotional tracks ('Jesus Lord', 'Come To Life') and a couple of songs that sound like a better version of what he tried to do on 'JESUS IS KING' proving that ultra religious/gospel Kanye is not necessarily a bad thing ('Jonah', 'Pure Souls'). 'Believe What I Say' is a highlight too, the one song on here that sounds like vintage early Kanye. Also really liked the instrumental on 'God Breathed' (I don't know that it needed to take up such a lengthy outro but at least it sounded good!)

As it is, it's definitely far too bloated but it has a lot more highlights than 'JESUS IS KING' had so it's a step in the right direction (highly questionable collaborator choices aside).

Posted by: steve201 19th September 2021, 09:13 PM

Yeh thought that too about ‘Believe What I Say’!

Posted by: DannyTorn2 26th September 2021, 08:18 PM

thanks Wiley released his album almost in a couple of weeks, too tired of kanye fans

Posted by: Bré 28th September 2021, 06:56 PM

So apparently he's altered a bunch of the songs now like he did with TLOP, mostly just slight mixing changes but notably Chris Brown has been removed entirely from 'New Again', with his small vocal parts replaced by Kanye's own voice. Good, because that was a highlight on the album for me but felt a little dragged down by Chris' entirely needless minor presence on it. x

I still get so much from this album and replay it near weekly. If Jesus Is King didn't exist, I'd say he had a 100% hit ratio for his studio albums.
