A really great first competition - lots of fun and the nation of Medhelnia was happy with the result, an estimated 1.9 million watched it live - that's nearly half the population! N'khuktu was happy too - we are proud to announce that she has a 5 year contract in presenting BJSC on MEDTV. Onward and upward, we hope, we have something *very special* confirmed for Sunday's BJSC 10 Years. A forum fave! Really hard for a girl to find. Cough. smile.gif

BJSC Ten Years - 7th March to TBC
Result - TBC
The Saturdays - Gentleman

"This is the second offering in BJSC from Medhelnia - and is another risky one. The addictive tones of The Saturdays summarize Buzzjack perfectly, and this song is no exception. It was part of a notorious chart battle back in 2013 - and the Medhelnian public voted unanimously to make it our second BJSC entry song. It divided opinion at the big reveal back earlier in March at Morpeth Cove - was it too predictable? It's certainly not one of the most out there entries, however the Medhelnian public are confident that can at least make some waves with this song - it debuted at number 2 back in 2013 here. Of course all eyes will be on one of the big battles of the competition - of sorts a reenactment of the iconic Sats vs Newman battle, with Medhelnia representing the former of the two. N'khuktu says she loves the song, and hopes it goes all the way. Our personal goal as a country? Top 20, or an improvement on The Chemical Brothers' strong showing last time out. We're sure to raise some heads, but will we grab the attention of the BJSC community enough to take home our first ever Buzzjack crown? You'll have to wait and see in this strong competition celebrating ten years of a great website."

BJSC 84 : TOPIC ft. NICO SANTOS - HOME

- our second official BJSC entry, this one is a more relaxed edm/house number that combines enticing vocals with a mysterious backing - it's one hell of a tune and we hope the BJSC world outside of Medhelnia like it! it was somewhat of a spur of the moment entry, we did have something else lined up for a while, however that got bad reviews from fellow BJSC representatives and we opted for this - we hope it can go one better than brave Kallay-Saunders Band and qualify.

heres hoping that BJSC 84 is the breakthrough//the real debut of Medhelnia!

Posted by: mdh🏠 24th May 2016, 04:35 PM

bjsc 84 result~

unfortunately, we continued our DNQ streak, as this came last place in our semi! I was surprised at this, and genuinely believe that if we were in semi 2 we would have qualified - as we would have had a 12 from Cor Lupus and a few more countries admitted their liking for the infectious bop that is Home. OH, and it also turns out that Nico Santos was entered in the last contest, with Waterfalls which ironically was one of my faves. lol @ me not realizing it was by the same bloke.

so where next?? we don't really know, to be completely honest. we have a FEW entries that could do well, however we're really looking for something that will positively BLOW EVERYONES socks off - will bjsc 85 be the time for that to happen??

and tonight is the worldvision final - ivi will be representing Medhelnia with pride there and we are hoping for a good finish - good luck!

we thank the two countries for their votes x

Posted by: Bré 24th May 2016, 05:45 PM

I actually thought this was slightly better than 'Waterfalls' (which isn't really saying a lot but still), confused as to how it did SO much worse. You need to bring something as good as 'Container Park' to one of the main contests ASAP tho xx

Posted by: mdh🏠 27th May 2016, 05:28 PM

worldvision result~

this wasn't exactly a train wreck - however it wasn't exactly a good result either. my pre-competition optimism of Cypriot Ivi Adamou shooting Medhelnia to their first ever top 10 in a BJSC competiton was detonated early on when I found out that not everyone shared my love for this cheeky bit of Euro-pop.

this was someting I spent a long time looking for - believe it or not, credible Cypriot acts are hard to come by, and I was surprised to find Ivi as a perfect candidate to give us a respectable finish. it started well, in fact, really well, just a few votes in and we were in touching distance of bronze medal contention - however we soon lost ground and we ended up finishing in what was a rather disappointing and incredibly underwhelming 32nd place.

it could have been worse, though, we made a lot of ground up at the end where I was genuinely expecting us to slump to what would have been a frankly embarassing last place. what have I learnt from this competition? don't go with something you like lots. my music taste is bizarre to say the least, and i have been shown twice in the space of a day why I should really look for something the receiving public will like, not something that tickles my own personal fancy.

whats next for Medhelnia? well, I've all but settled on a nice Indie record that I really think you will all like, however I have a token bit of strange EDM which COULD go down well, and another really funky dance tune that will either flop or slay completely. I'm going to be getting a lot of opinions on what I should enter for BJSC 85 - after the relatively strong performance of the Chemical Brothers at our competitive debut, we've slowly gone downhill. less said about the last few competitions the better. I am determined to end our painful 2 in a row DNQ streak - so let me tell you (albeit for the third time in a row), Medhelnia WILL, and I repeat WILL (probably not but I can be optimistic) do well in BJSC 85.

ciao!

It depends if you're thinking indie pop with a beautiful background (wub.gif) or something else?

Posted by: Dobbo 2nd June 2016, 09:13 PM

It could very well fit that description! wink.gif

Posted by: Dangerous Cody 2nd June 2016, 09:41 PM

Is this the second entry I've suggested that's become your official entry?

If I can get you to send a high-energy pop song, I think we may have ourselves a Cor Lupus 2.0!

Cor Lupus & Medhelnia should certainly form some sort of country twinning tho biggrin.gif

BJSC 85~

*************************

Medhelnia have spent the last few months entering song after unsuccessful song after unsuccessful song. It's been irritating to say the least. Entry after entry after entry I've been extremely emotionally invested in and hyped up, only to get my hopes brought down again and again with low scores and poor finishes. To be quite blunt, at this rate, Medhelnia will certainly not be remembered for being the best new nation of the year. We've entered two dance tracks to the main competition, one with more of a pop influence, and one that just flopped so doesn't even deserve any more info being told about it. We've also entered into three spin-offs - all have been began with extremely high hopes, all have ended with the country feeling dejected. You get the idea. Medhelnia have basically, in summary, been a pile of s***.

However a change may be on the horizon. Our track for BJSC 85 has pop influences, a slightly electric (lol) beat, and strong indie vibes throughout which create a stunning mix of alternative indie and blissful summery pop. Many know what it is, many will have heard it for different reasons, but all we can tell you until the confirmations thread opens is that BJSC 85 is going to be the potential end to the DNQ streak, the competition where Medhelnia potentially shine and finally show their true colours.

Am I right? This remains to be seen. And I've wrote far too much.

Posted by: Dobbo 12th June 2016, 04:50 PM

It's still very early days for this nation, chin up!

Home deserved a lot better of course but all the best in 85.

Yeah a lot of the time it's pot luck, I've been unlucky too heehee.gif sometimes it's "wrong semi syndrome" which is just a shame, but on the other hand the more entries you send, the more likely you are to get a hit with one ohmy.gif I wouldn't take BJSC too seriously though.

Can't wait to hear your song - you've been so supportive of me in what will be my first contest so I hope you do extremely well this time! smile.gif

Yeah that's it, I don't really take it that seriously but I feel sometimes the competition is so intense - like people actually have genuine expectations as to what people choose and vote for and I think if this element of pressure didn't exist in BJSC we'd see more variety, like for example you're probably expected to enter something from the dance genre, Dan too etc., meaning it's kind of hard to leave your genre people ascosiate you with.

I can't really explain it, I just do it as a bit of fun and when I don't have anything decent lined up I won't enter, but I feel as though some people really take it seriously and try and pick things that they'll do well with and songs that they are expected to enter, and tbh I couldn't be more arsed as to how well I do, but for this competition I've managed to find something that is probably going to (hopefully) do well, and I love myself, so that's why I'm hyping it etc.

You probably still don't understand it, but what I'm trying to get at here is that people enter songs they know will do well, not what they love themselves which irritates me as it's gone from being a competition of songs entrants love, to songs they think people will love in some cases.

Soz if this doesn't make any sense aaaa

Mdh, you only debuted in 83! You have only DNQ'd twice. I went from 5 DNQ's to a win followed by 12 more Q's. Keep your chin up!

I'm associated with rock and I leave that all the time. And I always encourage variety. I've tried to make my entries varied for years.

That's not to say your rant doesn't have some merit, some people get wholly into the competitive side, but as far as I'm aware everyone does enter songs that they're very invested in. Which makes the emotions involved stronger. It is worth thinking that people do enter songs with their hearts, we all trust each other to do that as proving against it is impossible and there's no evidence to suggest it.

Best of luck to you, you will qualify soon I am sure.

I'm sur you'll do well soon enough. I threathened to quite after BJSC80 as well and afterthat I gathered 3 top 3's in a row, so maybe this complaining will help you out as well laugh.gif

I am sure you will do well MDH, even though I have two DNQ'S in the last two contests just like you I think, just got to keep trying, Good Luck biggrin.gif

I definitely always try to send something that'll do well but it's never a song I'm not fully invested in! (except a few times in the spin-offs, but they don't really count for much)

I have tried variety in the past but to varying degrees of success, sending TheFatRat got me my best position to date but I also nearly came last in the semi once with something I wouldn't normally send. I guess people send (sub)genres that they're known for most of the time to be safe (and I admit I do this too - this month's entry couldn't be more Danaelanda if it tried!!!).

I'm sure you'll get a qualifier soon anyway, in Danaelanda's early days we gave up after DNQing once (with our 2nd entry, we were fortunate enough to qualify with entry #01) before returning a few months later and never left since biggrin.gif don't lose hope like we did.

Posted by: Cody Collins 12th June 2016, 07:45 PM

I can honestly say that I know where mdh is coming from, there have been times where I felt that I was just gonna up and out from the contest (most notably when Pixel Fix DNQ'd, but that was for other reasons other than the DNQ).

Variety is normally a good thing but it's also a good thing when you send something that seems to attach to your heart. I think my best example (and best moment) would be sending New Politics. They're a band that I've loved for a pretty long time and since I was in Rome during the first day of confirmations, I ended up picking them despite having 15 potentials for that month. Needless to say that became a breakthrough for me.

Keep sending what you love but keep being competitive. Those who peak too early end up giving up too early. All this only means you have something to work for.

Yes I think the best way to prepare for a DNQ is with a song you love, or at least for me anyway, although I'm not sure this is a common opinion. I'm not too sure of sending a song I don't like that much and to then have it DNQ is just pointless really. I mean I could send a song I think would do really well but not myself loving it that much, it would be good to slay of course but I think I would rather continue to send songs I love and hopefully I can do well again like with Ghost and Rush eventually and if that means I have to go through a line of DNQs then I'll take that too laugh.gif

Posted by: Cucumberella 12th June 2016, 08:19 PM

i got my first win with a song that i confirmed out of COMPLETE panic (i'm talking v last minute), it was 5 years old at the time when i sent it and no-one (not even i!) thought it would win, but i'd grown up with it and loved it so u should honestly just send something u can get rly behind

DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP TOO MUCH. Take it from the absolute best, I used to have optimism at one point- but those filthy BJSC voters (the ruthless animals that they are) have since ripped it right out of me. There is now a black pit in my stomach, where my optimism used to reside

(haven't heard your new entry yet though so your high hopes may well be justified in this case, but i heed you this warning solely for your benefit!!!)

#Medhelnia2Win

Posted by: Mdh 21st June 2016, 09:17 PM

Large amounts of cheer.gif's tonight in Medhelnia! We qualified, turns out all of my tedious and incredibly irritating moaning paid off cheer.gif Thanks to Aeroche for impeccable as expected hosting and lets hope the final brings us similar hosting skills and more importantly a similarly successful result! Now I can stop complaining/worrying/nagging people for odds for a little while as I'm not too fussed about the final results biggrin.gif

So, placed in SEMI 2, we had some STUNNING tunes in our pool - Brechtoria, getting an emphatic first time qualification with a similarly blissful indie track to ours, and Triangledonia who unfortunately DNQ'd again which is totally not fair etc. Next time for sure we shall see some Spinning in the final! 🔼🔼

Kylienips BROUGHT IT to this semi and deservedly qualified to my glee, and I shan't give too much else away that could potentially hint towards what my points are/will be for qualifiers but Pupok also rightfully qualified with one of my guilty pleasures of the year - ironically I've liked it for a while now (it's like Wifi Wifey which was once a potential of mine, some cringeworthy bad pop that is fantastic for those reasons *.*)

ANYWAY - how do our points look? I didn't get round to a semi 1 point chart however I have some faves, most of which qualified (yay) which was nice to see. Oh, and #MedheLupus SLAYING with that Random.org relevance!!! Totally ready for that # to take over the final. Stop going off topic mdh ~~

12 / QUALIFIED / 8
10 / QUALIFIED / 7.7
8 / QUALIFIED / 7.6
7 / QUALIFIED / 7.4
6 / TRIANGLEDONIA -- TAI & Son Of 8 'In & Out' -- لعب 7.2
5 / QUALIFIED / 7.1
4 / QUALIFIED / 7
3 / 17 Aelandor -- Said The Sky (feat. Missio) 'Nostalgia' لعب 6.8
2 / QUALIFIED / 6.8
1 / 9 Singerpurear -- Ezra Furman 'Restless Year' --لعب 6.6

..so that's how our votes look, unfortunately a really good chilled (~tune~) from Popchartfreak/John/Singerpurear DNQ'd to our sadness, and obviously as said earlier in the bulletin Triangledonia did so too. Also Aelandor! This was a HUGE TUNE - I was convinced it would do well in the semi as it sounded like something that would stereotypically do well. Hmm.

SO, onward (and hopefully upwards figuratively and as a phrase) for Medhelnia! P.O.L live to fight another day and I just hope the people of Semi 1 are receiving the /electric/ vibes as much as enough people in Semi 2 and myself did. #MedheLupus.

Parade of Lights - Feeling Electric
FINISHED ~ 2nd / POINTS ~ 303

For some unbelievable reason - we finished second cheer.gif Really happy with the result - all my moaning obviously did the trick (not as though I'm gonna do it again tongue.gif) and Medhelnia propped up some worthy winners in Beaverdonia! Thanks to all the people that voted for us, I really appreciate it as it was originally just a little Indie number I entered on a whim with some kinda hesitant optimism. I really didn't expect to end up in 2nd place, especially ahead of so many really high quality songs by more established nations. Great biggrin.gif

So, this contest was fantastic! Lots of high quality songs and a huge improvement of BJSC 84 which, if I'm honest, didn't see too many jams or did it see much success for us (cough cough last place). The likes of FKA Pi really impressed, with a kind of song that I wouldn't usually go anyway near - but the epileptic-fit-inducing jam gained a really worthy 18 from us, they would have finished seventh had they have voted. Tut tut Pav >_>.

ALSO - Hendinia!! Oh my, this was fab. At first I really thought this was going to win and although i questioned whether it should have got a veto, It was definetly a GOOD decision by the mods to not veto it heehee.gif. That got my 15. Think of it as a bit of a mix between Faded with a couple of Rachel K Collier meets Zara Larsson vocals thrown in for good measure. Altogether, it makes for HEAVENLY listening and I hope it'll be a hit here.

Pupok really brought it to 85, with a quirky teen anthem that clicked with me for all the right reasons - once again this was not something I would usually like, in fact when i saw what genre it was and what people were saying about it I nearly didn't bother listening to it. Turns out I had liked it a bit in the past. JAM. A guilty pleasure.

This contest saw the debut of Brechtoria - I DIDN'T KNOW I NEEDED THAT SONG (Tigertown - Lonely Cities) IN MY LIFE - but god I did! Medhelnia and Brechtoria are now partners/twinned with each other. Probably. That song got a lot of points and rightly so. It was a good result for them and the only way is up, hopefully BJSC 86 brings another really good result for Brechtoria because they totally deserve it. Bradders is such a nice guy with an on point music taste. The full package for a nation.

Spadam, oh Spadam sad.gif Unfortunately he DNQ'ued again. Hopefully he can end that streak in the next contest though, as I said, the only way is up !!!!! heehee.gif I was really sure TAI would be a certain qualifier - in fact I had envisaged the song to do considerably better than mine.

Aeroche BROUGHT IT as per with the Oshi redo of Ridin' Round - this got big points from myself and rightly got a really respectable final placing, as per. As I said a little while back in the final thread, Aeroche have well and truly NAILED the concept of BJSC, I don't remember a bad entry from them. Ever. Hopefully that never changes as it seems that their music taste has quite the overlap with mine, which is good. Always good to have a country that you consistently like, especially to their extent.

Oh, and #MedheLupus slayed the competition - so much good vibes coming from Cody for my song and I bounced them back for his - thanks for supporting it bro <3

Ooh. That reminds me. Danaelanda sad.gif Make Your Move was great, in fact I was surprised to see him send it in the first place but as I kept listening to it I grew more and more confident it would end Danaelanda's streak of high top 30's and get a top 20 position for the first time since Monody. Unfortunately that was not the case in '85. Make Your Move by Croatia Squad finished a lot lower than I anticipated it to and although I'm still glad it managed to qualify for the final (which is an achievement in itself in my humble eyes), it did slightly upset me that it didn't finish higher.

I should stop blabbing. Here are my points and full rankings~

18 ~ 26 FKA n // LUH // $ORO لعب ~ 9.4
15 ~ 31 Hendinia // Mike Perry (ft. Shy Martin) // The Ocean لعب ~ 8.9
13 ~ 19 Kluminican Republic // Billie Eilish // Ocean Eyes (Young Bombs Remix) لعب ~ 8.8

Those are the points! Some great songs and a very high average point rate.

Here are the commiserations, and there were quite a few that I wanted to point. That Jess Kent song would have been my 13 more than likely, had the deadline been now. Really has been a grower from being one of my least favourites to BAM, being one of my favourites as the goodness of the song just unanticipatedly exploded in my ears. Onward.

40 Cadelica // Jess Kent // Get Down لعب ~ 7.6
06 Seyetana // trippple nippples // LSD لعب ~ 7.4
03 Danaelanda // Croatia Squad & Lika Morgan // Make Your Move لعب ~ 7.3
34 Ethanola // Billie Black // I Waited For You لعب ~ 7.3
14 Beaverdonia // Bang La Decks // Aide لعب ~ 7
37 FARC // JONES // Hoops لعب ~ 7

These are the commiserations. Oh, and well done Michael! I look forward to BJSC 86 and totally don't dread what's to come. tongue.gif

Here are the rest with ratings, there were a few that were a tad crap however on the whole the final was incredibly above average, to my surprise. At first glance I didn't like too many of the songs however I found with time, there were SO MANY growers that deserved to do better in my rankings and in the overall standings. Onward.

33 Altyr Muunilinst // Youngr // Out Of My System لعب ~ 6.9
05 Taahino // Beautiful Bodies // Capture & Release لعب ~ 6.6
17 Hushkanukia // Kristina Si - Kosmos لعب ~ 6.6
15 Yehesi // Nightcall (ft. Dreamhour) // Dead V (Vocal Version) لعب ~ 6.4
10 Trifoski // Lemon Demon // Touch-Tone Telephone لعب ~ 6
25 FSR Rontvia // Real Lies // North Circular لعب ~ 6
35 Ultraviolenceland // Ana Mena // No Soy Como Tú Crees لعب ~ 6
01 #00274E // Infinity Ink (ft. Yasmin) // How Do I Love You لعب ~ 5.9
11 Quintessa // Elektra // I Don't Do Boys لعب ~ 5.8
13 Jadakissina // OVERWERK // Toccata لعب ~ 5.8
32 Tartford // Cigarettes After Sex // Keep On Loving You لعب ~ 5.7
12 Summericia // Invader Girl // Stuck On You لعب ~ 5.5
09 Syndare // Kwamie Liv // Higher لعب ~ 5.3
16 Botanikka // LP // Lost On You لعب ~ 5.2
22 N DNTN // Plaitum // Jagwa لعب ~ 5.2
36 Skall // BICEP // JUST لعب ~ 5.2
23 Federal Republic Of Ashton // Madison Beer (ft. Jack & Jack) // All For Love لعب ~ 5.1
04 New Lexico // Celtic Woman (ft. Oonagh) // Tír na nÓg لعب ~ 4.6
28 Terra Avium // Dehli 2 Dublin // Apples لعب ~ 2.1

So there we go! A great competition and of course I'm delighted to finish second!

xx | 20 Medhelnia // Parade Of Lights // Feeling Electric لعب ~

FUN. I've enjoyed this detailed write up far too much. I suppose I'm an essay kind of person when I want to be, but don't expect all my posts to be as long, detailed and boring as this in future. Once again I'd just love to reitterate a HUGE thankyou to everyone who felt the urge to give me points, regardless of how many, I really appreciate it and although at the end of the day it's just an internet competition and not particularly too much of a big deal ~ I'm so pleased of my finish and hope that in the future I can emulate these results and provide a few more indie (?) jams for y'all to enjoy. Lets gooooooo.

SUMMARY ~ Indie works! Leave the dance bloc and go for it tongue.gif

Thanx guys. Lets hope I don't majorly dissapoint in BJSC 86 and there's plenty more gr8 jams and 18 contenders and variety that can set the contest alight, just like Michael, Bradders, Cody and others did this competition. Byee

Congrats, you've managed to get a really good result faster than most new countries laugh.gif I think your song basically did what I was trying to do with my own entry (i.e. a wide appealing indie pop song) except much better (in terms of actually connecting with people, hence the much better result ~) Really strong bounce back from coming last in the semi-final last month as well.

Pray for an even number of entries in the next contest now! xx

Posted by: Dobbo 30th June 2016, 06:27 PM

Yes many congratulations! I knew you moment you posted that teaser this could well be your breakthrough smash but I didn't expect it to finish in 2nd! To get a medal in only your third contest (and first qualification) is a superb achievement - I wonder if you now also broke the record for biggest improvement in finishing positions between 2 contests?

That record is Tinnmark's probably forever - they went from coming effectively 71st in BJSC75 (last in the semi and with lower points than the last place in the other semi) to 2nd in BJSC76. We'll need quite a few new or returning countries again for anyone else to have an opportunity to rival that. There was also Herzebania going from last in the semi in BJSC12 to winning BJSC13. Still a very impressive achievement for Medhelnia of course.

BJSC 86~

"Oh let me know, where you wanna go"

Posted by: Cody Collins 2nd July 2016, 07:02 AM

Oooh I think the tribal-sounding parts will definitely work in your favor!

Hope you AQ tho

Posted by: BASTILLEmdh 5th July 2016, 07:29 AM

So BJSC 86 is seeing Medhelnia give a slight change of pace. The song is still a strong indie/alt track but in this track there's some tribal sounds and some (kind of) rap to accompany the euphoric chorus. It's nothing as eccentric as it sounds (eccentric is most definitely not my middle name) however we believe this could attract to the indie bloc as well as anyone else that has an appreciation of BIG instrumental parts and a video that is literally just 4 minutes of a camera zooming in and out of fields and roads.

Hope y'all like x

BJSC 86 REVIEW~

We finished 4th cheer.gif I was anticipating a top 25 finish at first which I thought was a tad optimistic but in what was a contest that saw one of my favourite nations finish 10th (a nation I assumed would finish considerably higher than myself), this has been an overall success - I consider it as much of a success as Parade Of Lights' finish of 2nd.

Of course, some faves didn't qualify as I expected them to. Cor Lupus DNQ'ed which ended the final streak of ONE for #MedheLupus, and Brechtoria DNQ'ed with the fantastic Mombasa by StadiumX, also putting an end to the final streak of ONE for #BrecHelnia.

Here's my full rankings w/ comments heart.gif

9.5 - 18 - 41.// Cadelicia // Wekeed // Wild Child - This has been a potential for me from the start! heart.gif Love this and good to see it entered as I would've overshadowed it as I wasn't too confident of it doing well. wub.gif
9.3 - 15 - 2.// TRIANGLEDONIA // Alexa Lusader // Fantasy (Sokko Remix) - YES wub.gif Adam you really set the bar high with this one, such a lovely upbeat number
9.3 - 13 - 13.// F.D. Anēné // Martin Jensen // All I Wanna Do - Well this was one of my potentials, so obv I'm going to love it music.gif
9.2 - 12 - 28.// Bhangra // Timeflies // Once in a While - Loving this, was obviously one of my potentials for 85, I nearly entered this as well heehee.gif
8.9 - 11 - 8.// The Actual Republic of Bellamia // Maty Noyes // In My Mind - This is so good, it'll do well I reckon wub.gif
8.9 - 10 - 17.// Oslol // Liam Summers // When U Do Me Like That (ft. Mikaela Coco) - I'm so in love with this music.gif I predict it to be a top 10 for Oslol.
8.8 - 9 - 26.// Republic Of Adonia // Dusky // Ingrid Is A Hybrid - I heard this on Capital a few months ago at night! It's really good music.gif
8.6 - 8 - 10.// FSR Rontvia // Olivia // I'm Not Your Lady - This is really good - I love the trumpets or whatever that is in the background. happy.gif
8.6 - 7 - 32.// Hushkanukia // April Ivy // Be Ok - Yeah this was one of my potentials! So good music.gif
8.6 - 6 - 40.// Trifoski // Pillow Person // Go Ahead - Gives me Shawn Wassabi vibes, so nice and refreshing to see something like this! wub.gif
8.5 - 5 - 7.// Avalonia // Nicole Skye // Terminate - LOVELOVELOVE - my expectations for a Regina entry were low but this is fab.
8.4 - 4 - 25.// New Lexico // Richard Istel // Still Mit Dir - He's hot. And this song is very good too heehee.gif
8.4 - 3 - 31.// #00274E // Hotel Garuda // Smoke Signals - Ooh the beat game is v high on this one music.gif Really love that drop!
8.3 - 2 - 24.// Dobago // Albin Myers & Carli // The Legend - This is very retro biggrin.gif I really like it, but Dobago is one of the best countries in the whole contest so
8.3 - 1 - 27.// Singerpurear // Firebeatz and Dubvision featuring Ruby Prophet // Invincible - BOOM. This is so Singerpurear - no one of his entries are the same wub.gif heart.gif
8.2 - 3.// D'yermak'er // Ryos Where We Are (radio edit) // [feat. KARRA] - Proximity always deliver! Such a lovely drop on this one, can't believe I didn't know this before music.gif
8.1 - 14.// Suedeonia // Where's The Beach // Tripping The Luv Fantastic - You know, I didn't expect to like this, but I really do music.gif wub.gif
8 - 1.// Persephonia // Aron Can // Með Mér - Really like the beat of this one and I'm always a lover of European vocals wub.gif
8 - 9.// Yehesi // TP4Y // Blush - I like this a lot! I really think it'll be another top 10 for Tim.
8 - 37.// Fljótavík // Hanna Järver // Anekdoter - This is very nice - hopefully it can do well wub.gif music.gif
7.9 - 19.// Deandria // Blackbriar // Until Eternity - There are parts of this that I love, but some parts are meh heehee.gif
7.8 - 36.// Altyr Muunilinst // Willa - Hey - Quite a funky choon music.gif I hope this gets top 10 (I think it will certainly!)
7.8 - 39.// Ramrynia // Cilia // Hardcore Heartbreak - Very nice, gives me vibes of someone I can't remember music.gif This to slay pls
7.7 - 21.// Hendinia // Highasakite // Samurai Swords - I suppose this is quite funky funky.gif It's not anything too brilliant, though.
7.6 - 29.// Taahino // Jule Vera // Die Trying - Well I suppose this is okay. Nothing great though.
7.5 - 23.// Terra Avium // Illenium feat. Joni Fatora // Fortress - Isn't Illenium one of Spadam's faves? unsure.gif The drop on this is heavenly thoooo
7.5 - 33.// Mulgracia // Ariana and the Rose // Survival of the Fittest - Nice bit of electro-indie there music.gif Definitely will be a grower on me in future!
7 - 11.// Pupok // Aelyn // Give Love A Try - Yeah this really doesn't do much for me, but y'know trance
7 - 16.// Ultraviolenceland // Casi // Lion - Yeah, this was one of my meh's, quite good though.
6.8 - 34.// N DNTN // Vendredi sur Mer // La femme à la peau bleue - Couple of bonus points for the nice beat going on there, this isn't great tho
6.8 - 38.// Federal Republic of Ashton // Jana Kramer // I Hope It Rains - Taking down the average a bit - this is AWFUL. sick2.gif Oh wait the chorus is great music.gif
6.7 - 4.// Greenfroze The Girl and the Dreamcatcher // Make you stay - This isn't exactly memorable. Sorry.
6.5 - 6.// Kylienips // Skott // Porcelain - I like Sheep's tracks but this isn't very memorable.
5.9 - 12.// Usfland // Apollo 440 // Blackbeat - Is this what you hear when you enter the gates of hell? Probably
5.8 - 18.// Daehun // Girls' Generation // Gee - I don't like Jpop or Kpop or whatever, so predictably I don't like this, sorry.
5.6 - 20.// Quintessa // Ani Glass // Y Ddawns - This isn't really anything special, so unfortunately for me it's a low score.
5.2 - 22.// Tartford // Marsheaux // Safe Tonight - This is BORING, and that's all there is to it. I like the music in the background tho heehee.gif
4.7 - 35.// Unovia // Baby K // Anna Wintour - This is one of the worst songs in the contest - too much going on puke.gif
3 - 15.// Ethanola // Konstantin Sibold // Mutter - I'm sorry Ethan, this is really boring to me heehee.gif
2 - 30.// Beaverdonia // Mazoo and The Zoo // Η Τίγρη - No

Let me tell you, I HAVE SO MANY POTENTIALS FOR 87. I've got a chilled house track that could go either way... and OH WAIT. I was having a leisurely stalk of Adam's national thread and I stopped scrolling only to see him write about how he tried entering my main potential (which sounded like a smash) and it got VETOED. Only one thing is relevant here.

Thank GOD I didn't get vetoed

oops I got vetoed

So thanks guys for all the points, I really appreciate it <3. Hopefully BJSC 87 makes it three consecutive top 4's and three consecutive hits for Medhelnia.

Posted by: mdh 25th July 2016, 06:26 PM

Any opinions on these would be appreciated, I'm really having a hard time choosing. Right now I'm leaning towards FMLYBND though.

BJSC 87 POTENTIALS~

Olympic Ayres - Magic

Autograf ft Janelle Kroll - Metaphysical

PRIDES - Out Of The Blue

Cartoon ft Daniel Levi - On & On

Milow - Howling At The Moon

Bleachers - Rollercoaster

FMLYBND - Come Alive

Posted by: HarryEzra 25th July 2016, 07:01 PM

The last one and Willow are so good but I think The last one, Autograf and maybe Olympic Ayres could we do well.

Oh I would say Prides too but I am pretty sure that would get vetoed

Hope this helps biggrin.gif

Posted by: Bré 25th July 2016, 07:02 PM

Prides would be an autoveto as it came top 5 when I entered it in Unknown Pleasures (still a great song that everyone should hear if they haven't already though kink.gif)

(will try to listen to the others at some point x)

Posted by: memebury. 25th July 2016, 07:09 PM

You could get another big hit with the first one, your current signature sound seems to be the goto to keep slaying in BJSC dance.gif

Like the Autograf one, he does do some good stuff tbf! Prides can also have a decent performance too, no idea if Cartoon will DNQ or not though, I'd see what others have to say first!

Milow sounds pretty good, it might be one of those songs that get wide appeal too? thinking.gif the last one might not do that well, again you should wait for other opinions heehee.gif

Posted by: Bré 25th July 2016, 10:48 PM

'Come Alive' > 'Magic' > 'Metaphysical' > 'Rollercoaster' >> 'On & On' >>> 'Howling At The Moon'

I agree with your current leaning then! I'd go with that one regardless of any feedback if it's your favourite, but a few other pretty good choices here.

The video for the Milow song is pretty cute but the song itself is really bland.

Posted by: Roba S 25th July 2016, 11:51 PM

Out of the 6 I liked 'Come Alive', 'Metaphysical' & 'Magic'.

I prefer 'I Wanna Get Better' from the bleachers whereas found this a bit ehh. Not sure that'd Qualify.

Personally I'd go for 'Come Alive' but yeah go with your gut happy.gif

Posted by: Bradders 26th July 2016, 09:01 AM

Posted by: danG 26th July 2016, 01:21 PM

Metaphysical > Come Alive > On & On > Howling At The Moon > Rollercoaster > Magic

On & On / Howling At The Moon seem a tad too generic, I think people are starting to get bored of that sound in this contest. Metaphysical is definitely your best of those, in my opinion. If you're going dance go for that. Or just go for Come Alive if you want an easy hit. I like that one a fair bit too based on first listen.

Posted by: Cody Collins 26th July 2016, 05:13 PM

I see you've found your money shot (indie alternative) and that's great smile.gif

"Come Alive" > "Howling At The Moon" (what? it's good tropical house) > "Magic" > "Rollercoaster" >> "On & On" >>> "Metaphysical"

I actually had another Cartoon song in mind when I saw them in your potentials smile.gif

Posted by: notfurlong 27th July 2016, 08:52 PM

I was so into ‘Magic’ like two years ago or whenever it came out... took me a minute to realise I even knew it ha. Still great tho.

RANK: Magic > Come Alive >>> Metaphysical > Rollercoaster >>> On & On >>>>> Howling At The Moon

Oh, if it's what I think it is, I was also considering this a couple of months this ago but it felt too similar to Emoji for me to get away with so soon. Great track though! Not sure it's a winner though, I could see it doing a Banana Brain and getting really high odds but ultimately coming in the lower top ten.

Posted by: Cucumberella 29th August 2016, 08:21 PM

i think it is just a lesser version of emoji tbh

Posted by: Chez Wombat 29th August 2016, 09:28 PM

Even I know what this is and I never know anything before the contest kink.gif it's pretty good, I love the video and I briefly considered it, but figured it a bit too obvious to go for and that a lot would be confirming it. Good luck tongue.gif (Posting here is just making this more likely to go isn't it oops :x)

Posted by: Oliver 29th August 2016, 09:51 PM

Yes, if this is what I think it is I did briefly consider it about 2 months ago. I agree with Rich that it could be a low top 10, can't see it winning.

OK GUYS. Do I go with whatever-that-was OR do I dramatically switch to trash-pop? Like really trashy girl-power sass?

Well with the first option you'd be giving the voters what they want... so i say go with the trash-pop cheer.gif

Posted by: mdh 29th August 2016, 10:01 PM

yeah I'm gonna reconfirm tomorrow with the girl power pop anthem that sounds like something Lotti would listen to. i feel as though literally everyone knows about this now and I'd rather go with somethimg experimental than something I know will do well because the kind of unknowness of what's going to happen is my favourite thing about the contest.

yeah this was my reasoning kind of, I want to go into a new genre and see what happens.

Posted by: Cody's Glory 29th August 2016, 11:06 PM

As much as I've adored what you've confirmed currently I think the risk will be more in tune with the Nerve aesthetic the contest will bring

BJSC 89 POTENTIALS

VANIC FT KATY TIZ - SAMURAI

AASH MEHTA FT JESS FORMAN - WINGS

ERICK MORILLO VS EDDIE THONEICK FT ANGEL TAYLOR - LOST IN YOU

Got a pretty decent set of potentials this month! Excited to see what y'all think of them - please rate, rank and suggest what could do well pls biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cucumberella 24th September 2016, 06:37 PM

im pretty sure vanic x katy tiz is an autoveto at this point

my fave is erick morillo, if the drop was more to my taste i'd have sent it myself so im in!!!

Posted by: danG 24th September 2016, 06:43 PM

Erick Morillo > Aash Mehta > Vanic

Vanic and Katy Tiz have both had top 10s here before so it's a likely veto, but I prefer the other 2 anyway.

Posted by: Cody Hough 24th September 2016, 07:33 PM

Is ANYTHING that Vanic produces NOT an auto veto?

Posted by: Cucumberella 24th September 2016, 07:34 PM

vanic's work always seems to be a marriage of blogosphere darlings always meaning the featured name is gonna have some online or in this contest, previous BJSC interest and exposure

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 25th September 2016, 04:16 PM

Out of those three I'd be most likely to vote for the Erick Morillo one

Posted by: mdh 27th September 2016, 09:42 PM

THE COMPLETED SET OF POTENTIALS~

PARADE OF LIGHTS - GOLDEN

OCTOBER - CHERRY COLA

OU EST LE SWIMMING POOL - DANCE THE WAY I FEEL

ERICK MORILLO VS EDDIE THONIECK FT ANGEL TAYLOR - LOST IN YOU

Please rank and rate etc - I'm not sure if any of them have potential to do ok but PLEASE SAY @ BJSC buffs. heart.gif

Posted by: Bré 27th September 2016, 09:46 PM

I nearly sent that Ou Est Le Swimming Pool song back in BJSC 70, it's a bit of an all-time fave (sad story behind the band tho :'(). Would defo love you forever if you sent that. x

Posted by: Doctor Blind 27th September 2016, 09:47 PM

“Dance The Way I Feel” the obvious fave there although I guess most people will know it already-

Posted by: mdh 28th September 2016, 05:09 PM

89 potentials?!

Jeeesus Christ!!!

Posted by: TheSnake 28th September 2016, 10:12 PM

Yes the Ou est le one sounds the best to send.

Speaking of Eddie Thoneick it is sad that his best known tune, Love Sensation 2006 is ineligible (I probably would have sent that myself otherwise) as it already charted (only one week very low top 40). Really good tune, much prefer it to Ride On Time actually.

Posted by: danG 28th September 2016, 10:18 PM

it's only former top 20 hits that are ineligible! although Love Sensation would be vetoed anyway as it's a cover of a very famous dance song that got sampled in a massive #1 in Ride On Time

Ah so I could send an underperforming 00s dance classic like Praise Cats' Shined On Me in the future dance.gif

Yeah but don't give it away heehee.gif

Posted by: TheSnake 8th October 2016, 10:21 PM

Yeah I wont choose Praise Cats ft Andrea Love - Shined On Me probably....its only an example. There are plenty more mid 00s non top 20 funky house songs I could choose.

Shined On Me however is actually quite well known and iconic despite it not being top 20 when it was released.

Posted by: Cucumberella 8th October 2016, 10:21 PM

i obviously RLY know this and am a big fan so good choice

Posted by: TheSnake 8th October 2016, 10:26 PM

Where is the piscine..... laugh.gif

Great entry...knew this one from when it was released for some reason and really liked it too, so when the tragic news of the singers death made the news, I looked up their famous song and was surprised that despite the low chart performance, I knew it.

Posted by: danG 9th October 2016, 08:28 AM

I wasn't familiar with the original version of this but I did quite like the Armand van Helden remix which was on a compilation I downloaded around Xmas 2009

idk, sounds like something that would be midtable at best, gives me Hushkanukia circa this time last year feels

"SurfboardT Fire" sounds like a winner contender anyway

(Speaking of NINA listen to https://youtu.be/9pItCF_JjJw bc it's AMAZING)

Posted by: Jade 19th October 2016, 03:40 PM

Congrats mdh! cheer.gif Clocking up two silver medals in your debut year of BJSC is really impressive. OELSP were a group that I had heard of (due to the tragic story </3) but I had never heard any of their output before. So cheers for that wondrous discovery!

Monsieur Adi ft VÉRITÉ - Bad Habits

R3hab ft VÉRITÉ - Trouble

BARENHVRD ft Anuka - Without U

Thanks biggrin.gif

Posted by: Cucumberella 4th February 2017, 07:29 PM

that monsieur track is a previous A/V so i doubt that'll make it thru again, the r3hab track with her is only okay too

i would say that the LIGHTS one mite be ur best shot but i can imagine them all having similar levels of success

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 4th February 2017, 08:10 PM

I feel like even the LIGHTS one will get vetoed so realistically you're only left with one potential lol

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 4th February 2017, 08:48 PM

Posted by: Brer 20th May 2017, 11:11 PM

This was definitely way better than the previous two MisterWives entries, I expected it to challenge for top 10! WD on another top 5 x (two 2nds and two 4th now lol)

MisterWives are a bit of a harbinger of doom in BJSC though as Ojnoj and Patvia both disappeared after entering them (Ojnoj came back obviously) - I assume this won't be a threepeat of that mellow.gif

Posted by: Cody S. Berry 20th May 2017, 11:18 PM

ugh why are MisterWives such a good band *.*

Posted by: mdh 13th July 2017, 08:47 PM

My BJSC entry is like, TALA, MssingNo and some K-Pop group. It's in the final. Vote for it, if you like it enough.

On another note - I've found my entry for BJSC 97. Think moody tears-on-the-dancefloor anthem. It's fab.

Posted by: Jade 13th July 2017, 08:57 PM

I approve of your Jadaphonia recycling this month *.* In fact 'Tell Me' is easily your best entry of 2017 thus far. <3 Coming for the top 10 surelyyy.
