I think she might have just released her best song in ages.

wow great song. actually didn't even hope to hear anything new from her in the next couple of years. she's been involved in some social projects and I thought it would be her focus for the time being. cool anyway, glad to hear her back

I'm listening to this on the back of DAY but I'm excited. She's got her pop melodies back. I think she's found the perfect balance between what she was trying to force upon us and what we actually want from her.

I rather enjoyed the album on first listen, it doesn't come close to the first two but I didn't ever expect that, and it made a better first impression than Girl Talk (which I do enjoy and it certainly has its moments but it was very disappointing at first). The first half is very much like Jonjo said - the perfect balance between what Kate has wanted to do in more recent times, and the music her fans are actually wanting. The second half goes slightly crazy laugh.gif but it's a Kate album, I wouldn't really expect anything less :')

Really excited to see if it grows on me too, enjoyed this way more than I thought I would on one listen wub.gif

09.0 Life in Pink
09.0 Call Me
08.5 Take Away
10.0 Hate You
09.0 Drink About You
08.0 Body Heat
11.0 Karaoke Kiss
06.0 Musical Theatre
03.0 California Poppies
06.5 Always Shining
08.0 Today
07.0 Twisted Up
09.5 My Little Alien
10.0 To the Music I Belong

Karaoke Kiss hit me so hard on a second listen, I love the Style-esque production. To the Music I Belong is a stunner and is unusually vulnerable for a Kate song, I love it wub.gif California Poppies has nice verses but the chorus is pure noise, I can appreciate it in a "wacky Kate song" kinda way but not one I'll revisit on its own laugh.gif

An interesting video laugh.gif Hate You remains a highlight from the album so I'm pleased it's getting the single treatment, even if that means very little in the grand scheme of things for someone like Kate. Please can she give us a Karaoke Kiss video next though cry.gif

So Kate played a gig at Banquet Records in Kingston last night to celebrate the vinyl release of My Best Friend Is You, and I finally got to see her live wub.gif it was a pretty magical experience! This was the setlist:

1. Paris
2. Do-Wah-Doo
3. Kiss That Grrrl
4. I Hate Seagulls
5. Don't You Want to Share the Guilt?
6. Hate You
7. Birds
8. Free My Pussy
9. Foundations
10. My Little Alien

Really good selection of MBFIY tracks there, my top 3 of Paris/DWD/Guilt covered heart.gif of course the two Made of Bricks songs were incredible live, especially as I couldn't attend the Made of Bricks anniversary shows. My Little Alien was a surprisingly incredible closer, she taught the crowd the chorus and it went down really well laugh.gif

Kate signed vinyls after the show and I got to talk to her, she was so lovely!! I was with my sister and we told her about how we loved Made of Bricks since we were kids - I was 10 and she was 8 - much to the dismay of our parents considering the swearing on there :') we had a good laugh and it really couldn't have been any better.

So here's a pic of me with one of my idols x
