Spice Girls announce reunion
28 June 2007 - 14:01:29
Source: Music Week

Iconic popstars The Spice Girls have finally put paid to months of speculation, confirming today that they are to reunite with a world tour, a documentary and a greatest hits CD.

In one of the least surprising announcements to hit the music industry in recent years, the girl group this morning told more than 400 of the world's press, who had gathered at London's O2 arena, their plans for an 11-date world tour, which will include a London show on December 15.

In addition, The Spice Girls will be making their first official documentary for TV broadcast around the world with director Bob Smeaton (Beatles Anthology, Who’s Next).

EMI Music UK will be releasing the group's greatest hits album in November 2007 worldwide. EMI Music UK chairman and CEO Tony Wadsworth says, “The Spice Girls were a unique phenomenon and a great instance of UK pop music taking over the world. It’s great to have them back.”

Ticket registration for the group's shows will be through www.thespicegirls.com.

Spice Girls planning telly extravaganza

By ANI
Saturday June 30, 02:22 PM
London, June 30 (ANI): After announcing their reunion tour, the Spice Girls are now planning a TV show filmed in eight countries at once.

The vivacious five, who announced their reunion by confirming an 11-city tour, plan to sing before a celeb audience, just like in ITV's An Audience With . . . series, throughout their comeback.

The celebs will be present in eight cities from New York to Sydney, and will shoot questions at the all-girl band.

The ITV show will be shot in one of the 11 cities lined up for the band's comeback tour.

The star-studded audience may include Elton John and Robbie Williams in London, and P Diddy and Mariah Carey in the US.

"There is huge demand for them across the world so it makes sense to do something with a global feel," The Sun quoted a source, as saying. (ANI)

Spice Girls to add more dates to tour?
Monday, July 23 2007, 10:53 BST
Digitalspy.com By Daniel Kilkelly

Simon Fuller wants the Spice Girls to add another 25 dates to their reunion tour, according to a report today.

The group's manager is expected to try and get the girls on board at secret meetings this week, promising that they will earn far more than their original £10m deals if they agree to perform at more concerts.

Although Geri, Mel B, Victoria and soon-to-be mum Emma have families to consider, Fuller believes that the girls will agree because they have been touched by the huge demand for tickets.

A source told The Mirror: "It's going to be a huge commitment for the girls, who are extremely devoted to their families. But they are overwhelmed by the world-wide response from their fans and don't want to let them down."

If true are you pleased by this news?

Spices may double world tour
PA Entertainment

The Spice Girls are apparently in talks to double their world tour to 50 dates.

The band's website has been bombarded by fans hoping to see the girls reunited on tour, but extra dates could be difficult for the family-focussed fivesome.

A source told the Daily Mirror: "The girls really want to do a huge tour but they're worried about how much time they'll be able to commit to it because of their families.

"It's tricky for Victoria as she has three kids about to enrol in a new school and Mel B's daughter Phoenix would struggle with the schedule, too, as she's also of school age.

"It's not going to be easy for Geri and soon-to-be mum Emma travelling with their tots either. Mel C has her solo career to consider, too, so they'll have to get her on board..."

So far the girls have gigs on 11 dates, starting at London's 02 arena in December, with another 14 being finalised.

Posted by: Lukuzz Jul 24 2007, 10:13 AM

really hope they do, and i hope they arent all 'pick of the draw' tickets

Posted by: Andrewy Jul 24 2007, 10:11 PM

Surely Victoria's and Mel B's kids would already be in school from September, so a December onward tour isn't a problem in term of enrolment huh.gif

Spice Girls unveil new look
PA Entertainment

The Spices have a new look

The Spice Girls have unveiled a new grown-up look as they announced extra dates for their reunion tour.

Instead of kicking-off in Los Angeles, Victoria Beckham's glitzy new hometown in California, the band will play their first comeback concert in Vancouver, Canada.

Three new dates were announced as the latest picture of the band showed that Sporty, Ginger, Posh, Baby and Scary's trademark dress codes have been dropped for a more sophisticated image.

But none of the extra concerts are on home turf, meaning that, so far, the band are still only playing one UK date, in London, in December.

The band announced new concerts in San Jose, California, and Shanghai, China.

The LA concert will now be their third performance on the 14-night extravaganza of six continents.

The Spice Girls - who split six years ago after one album without Geri Halliwell who quit the band in dramatic fashion in 1998 - sold 55 million albums and had nine UK number one singles in their heyday.

The five are now all in their 30s and have six children between them.

Since launching their reunion tour last month, three million people - who can buy up to six tickets each - have registered to see the band.

Fans can also vote for the money-spinning tour to come to their hometown.

The band said: "We have just found out that we've had over three million ticket requests on the website. As our own VB (Victoria Beckham) would say, that is 'major'!"

1 date in the UK?
Thats a joke, right?

Posted by: Jack89 Jul 28 2007, 10:50 PM

If they don't add more than one UK date, they deserve to FLOP when they comeback... they were most successful here and they are turning their backs on the uk sleep.gif

Yea, i think its totally out of order if they don't do at least 2/3 dates in the UK

Posted by: Spice_Mel Jul 29 2007, 11:39 PM

i hope they add another Australian date, coz i live in melbourne and the shows in sydney....

and as some have said in here, they should add another london show... they are English after all!

but i'm excited that they're touring.... but i dont really like this "pick of the draw" thing with tix!

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jul 30 2007, 12:23 AM

i think many many dates will be added all round

Posted by: dirrrty Jul 30 2007, 01:14 PM

It's obvious they will a load of UK shows. They will more than likely close their tour in the UK

Posted by: Delta*Fan*Mel Jul 30 2007, 01:29 PM

I hope they announce all UK dates before tickets go on sale. I can only go to one show, so I need to make sure I choose the best one wink.gif ---- if they do their last date in London, then I want to go for that one, rather than December 15th show.

tbh if more UK dates eventualy get added, I don't really care if it's the final final night, or Dec 15th, I'd just be happy to go and finally see them wub.gif Beggars can't be choosers or something like that laugh.gif

A world tour AND since it's a reuniun tour should require at least 30 dates. mellow.gif

compare it to the SpiceWorld tour it's tiny, and that was mostly stadiums too mellow.gif

I can't see why the 02 arena is so great, when there's the chance for 62,000+ in Wembley

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jul 30 2007, 03:13 PM

tghis will prob make more money though even if its shorter

Posted by: Spice_Mel Aug 1 2007, 11:41 PM

mmm i'm not too fussed bout the venue in sydney......

its at acer arena,a nd its like 20,000 i think... there's other venues in sydney and even in melbourne that hold more... when robbie was at telstra dome he had 66,500 people.....

so yeah i thought a WORLD tour/REUNION tour'd have at least 25+ dates!

I do believe that The Spice Girls are doing a special, exclusive performance on Loose Women this week either on Wednesday or Thursday as if you have Sky and press the I button for Loose Women on Wednesday or Thursday (sorry can't remember which one) then it says a special performance from a recently reformed world famous group (or something along those lines) and the only group who fit that bill are The Spice Girls. thumbup.gif

Posted by: Matt Aloud Aug 7 2007, 01:51 PM

but isn't Emma about to drop a baby? I'm not getting any hopes up. They have no reason to be performing together yet anyway. The GH is 3 months away along with the more than likely CIN single.

i cant see them performing with emma having the baby shortly. i shall be watching just in case though

It would be great if they did

Posted by: Jack89 Aug 8 2007, 12:58 AM

They could be there as a foursome without emma BUT more than likely the management have told them that they can't do interviews etc if all five of them aren't there as it would generate speculation etc

could b good! coz on pay tv over here they show hepasa overseas awards shows...

i hope they accept mtv invite but it may not happen with emma's pregnancy
maybe she should stay home and take it easy.

Don't knock the Nolans - they were the first act managed by Louis Walsh who became successful in the UK.

So no doubt he would argue how much more talented they are than the Spice Girls (like he does about Girls Aloud).

Anyone know when we will be notified if we got the tickets or not?

Posted by: On Your Shore Oct 2 2007, 02:24 AM

LONDON (AFP) - Tickets for the Spice Girls' comeback concert in London sold out in just 38 seconds, the show's organisers announced on Monday.

Demand was so overwhelming -- more than one million people in Britain registered for the sole London show -- that organisers added three more London dates to the tour.

The five original Spice Girls -- Scary, Sporty, Ginger, Posh and Baby -- will kick off their worldwide reunion tour on December 2 in Vancouver, their first since Geri Halliwell quit in May 1998, with a December 15 concert scheduled at London's O2 arena.

Organisers added London concerts on December 16 and 18 and January 2 to the tour.

The group, made up of Halliwell, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Melanie Brown and Melanie Chisholm, will also perform in San Jose, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Cologne, Madrid, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney and Cape Town before ending at Buenos Aires on January 24, 2008

The Spice Girls sold over 50 million records worldwide and scored nine British number one singles, including "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life".

They announced they were reforming for a comeback tour in June but have denied the move is financially motivated.

they sold out quick but have added loads of new dates

Posted by: Delta*Fan*Mel Oct 2 2007, 01:34 PM

The first one didn't really sell out in 38 seconds cuz you could still buy them half an hour or so after. I think all the tickets were allocated after 38 seconds, but not everyone chose to buy what TM came up with for them. If that makes sense. The tickets were all allocated but not sold.

Spice Girls lease Boeing 757

QUOTE
When the Spice Girls kick off their world tour at the end of the year, they intend to travel in style.

The band – not content with flying first-class – are leasing a Boeing 757 they have nicknamed Spice Force One to jet them around the globe.

The fuselage of the 757 will be adorned with official Spice Girls reunion artwork – and inside it will have facilities including a creche and make-up parlour.

The jet will transport the five girls – Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell – plus their families, management, wardrobe and make-up assistants and bodyguards.

"Spice Force One will be a flying palace," said my source.

As well as the creche and make-up facilities, it will include a dining room, business centre, state-of-the-art bathrooms, a media centre and sleeping quarters.

Along with the immediate entourage, the girls will have a team of chefs and nannies who will be on hand 24/7 to feed and look after all the VIPs on board."

The eagerly awaited tour kicks off on December 2 and will see the girls visit Vancouver, San Jose, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, New York, Shanghai, Madrid, Beijing, London and Cape Town.

It is the first time all the girls will have appeared on stage together since Geri left in May 1998 – leading to the group eventually splitting in 2001.

In addition to Spice Force One, the band is also set to hire two further jets – dubbed Spice Force Two and Three – for their dancers, remaining staff, stage hands and equipment.

Sources say a budget of between £7million and £10million has been set aside to pay for the three aircraft.

Spice Girls star Mel B has explained that the group were shocked at the rapid ticket sales for their forthcoming reunion tour.

Tickets for the 'Spice Up Your Life' girlband's concert at London's 02 Arena sold out in just 38 seconds last week.

Talking about their popularity, Scary Spice told US chat show host Ellen DeGeneres: "I was amazed. I did actually think 'How is that possible? Is there a lot of people on the phone in one big room?'

"I don't get it. I was really shocked and thought 'Wow! We really have to do it now'. But I'm very excited."

Geri Halliwell revealed last week that the Spice Girls would be following up their Greatest Hits album on November 12 by releasing the single 'Headlines' on November 19.

Geri Halliwell has denied rumours that the Spice Girls constantly fight over who is the best looking.

Ginger Spice revealed that although all the girls want to get fit and look good on their forthcoming reunion tour, there is no element of competitiveness.

Halliwell told Entertainment Today that her recent fitness regime has been to do with fitting in the small costumes they wear during the concerts and not to stand out from the other girls.

She said: "They [the media]always say that but no, not really. The point of training is that I just want to be fit on tour.

"You have to sing and dance and you want to be in the best shape that you can be.

"When you are on tour, there is nowhere to hide. You are singing and dancing in skimpy outfits, I want to feel comfortable in my body and have stamina."

The Spice Girls have signed up to make their first American television performance during the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Los Angeles.

The reformed five-piece will perform during the show, which starred 'SexyBack' singer Justin Timberlake last year, at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood on November 15.

A source told US magazine that the Spice Girls "are rehearsing for it already. It's going be their big comeback appearance."

The show will be aired on CBS, while the girls' world tour starts in LA in December

The Spice Girls have agreed to star in a new TV ad for Tesco, and will each pocket £1 million from the deal.

Emma Bunton, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria Beckham are expected to poke fun at themselves in the commercial, which will start airing shortly after their greatest hits album is released on November 12.

A source told The Mirror: "Tesco is one of the tour sponsors and has been desperate to get them in an advert. They will be sending themselves up, in the tradition of the old Jane Horrocks ads, and viewers should find it funny."

The girls' reunion tour kicks off on 2 December in Vancouver, Canada

Melanie Chisholm has admitted that she never approved of a Spice Girls reunion, and that she only agreed to it after the other four girls threatened to go ahead without her.

Sporty Spice was the last one to agree to bring the girl group back because she was worried that the depression she suffered during the girls' heyday could return.

Mel C revealed to Closer magazine that it was a difficult decision for her, saying: "The girls approached me and said they were getting together to do a world tour, a greatest hits album and a big goodbye, and I was like: 'Oh no.' It was the last thing I wanted to hear.

"All four of them had spoken about it and it was set in stone. They basically said if I wanted to do it, great, but if I didn't want to do it then they were going to do it anyway. So I was like: 'Wow, what do I do?'

"I always said I'd never do it. But I didn't want to miss out and have regrets. I also didn't want to be the person that stopped it being the complete five - I was scared I'd be the villain. It was hard, so I didn't say yes immediately. I changed my mind every day - it was difficult."

But she has insisted that she won't make a new album with the Spice Girls, claiming: "I will absolutely be returning to my solo projects when the Spice Girls are over in February."

But you never know she might find doing it all amazing and then want to do more stuff with them?

The Spice Girls have been practising pole dancing for a raunchy routine on their forthcoming world tour.

The five-piece have been taking lessons at London's Soho Revue Bar, which regularly plays host to pole dancers, drag artists and live bands.

They have also hired the services of an all-male American dance team to perform alongside them at the concerts.

A source told The Sun: "The girls all agreed that a pole dancing section in the show would be fabulous and sexy.

"And they wanted to get some proper lessons from professional dancers.

"They chose the Soho Revue Bar with all its fabulous kitsch decor and they liked the idea of something a bit seedy."

With the girls' first public performance just three weeks away, Mel's bandmates are worried that her Dancing commitments will threaten their rehearsal time. The US reality show has another five weeks left to run.

A source told the Daily Mail: "The biggest tension right now is Mel B doing Dancing With The Stars. If it carries on into rehearsal time, it could be very difficult.

She definitely did give the songs alot of their trademark "Spice Girls" sound, but her voice just isn't the same now.

If you compare "Headlines" and her recent solo stuff with the early Spice Girls songs and her first album, you'll hear the unfortunate effect that smoking 20 a day has had on her voice.

It's a warning to us all! It's a shame she won't be able to replicate her voice 10 years ago on the tour.

The Spice Girls are reportedly considering performing in both Canada and England on the same day.

The reformed five-piece are due to kick off their world tour in Vancouver on December 3, but they are also keen to perform at the Royal Variety Show in Liverpool on the same evening.

A spokesperson for the Royal Variety Performance said: "They are keen, but it’s a question of making it work physically."

I just ordered a limited edition spice girls t-shirt from their website! there's a music store too so you can basically get any song they've ever released online. good to see the girls are being brought up into the 21st century - if i could have used the internet to buy their music when i was 12 my pocket money would have lasted about 2 seconds.
the issue at hand: am i sad?

Although I would never buy their tunes on itunes or something cos you have to have the cd singles/albums - it wouldnt be the same!

very unlikely with Simon Fuller pulling the strings. Last thing he needs is them to get ill through exhaustion.

Is the Variety the 3rd or the 4th?

Posted by: Matt Aloud Nov 7 2007, 05:56 PM

a load of tut now I look at a map laugh.gif

When they finish in Vancouver it would be roughly 6 in the morning on the 3rd December here, and the fact they're playing San Jose on the 4th Dec (WEST coast of America) it is near impossible.

EDIT: more maths.

Say they left the Variety for John Lennon at 10PM, that's 2PM in San Jose. 12 hour + flight means they would arrive in the morning on the 4th on the west coast. Possible but quite completely barking laugh.gif

EDIT #2: the tour starts on the 2nd so that's wrong, and it wouldn't be the same day laugh.gif

Posted by: Delta*Fan*Mel Nov 7 2007, 06:40 PM

They would probably do a live link up to the royal variety performance. No way would they risk missing a concert cuz of flight delays (e.g. bad weather)!

Geri Halliwell has compared the Spice Girls' reunion tour to family TV show The Waltons.

Ginger Spice claimed the band have put their past troubles behind them and are constantly surrounded by husbands and babies while they rehearse.

"Victoria's son Cruz has been looking for a pump to blow up his rocket and now he's trying on Melanie C's hoodie.

"Melanie C is definitely embracing her Sporty roots today in a fetching pair of tracksuit bottoms. Looking gorgeous! Actually, that's Bluebell's new favourite word."

She added: "Bluebell is on her way down here in a bit. She keeps on picking up a microphone, so it's like The Waltons on tour with babies and husbands all around. Jade (Emma's partner) is the perfect daddy. I can tell he loves being a father."

Geri Halliwell Interview from Music Week
By Adam Benzine

Renowned for her fiery spirit and independent, feminist attitude, Geri Halliwell surprised few when she became the first Spice Girl to leave the group in 1998. Nine years and four solo number one singles later, Ginger Spice is the member most enthusiastic about the group’s reunion, telling Music Week in this exclusive interview that this is a reunion of “reconciliation” and “celebration”.

It’s been several months since the Spice Girls reunion was confirmed. How are you feeling about it?
I’m absolutely so excited. The idea’s been in my mind since long before, so it’s the fact that it’s happened is just amazing. It’s a prayer answered and a dream come true.

Having been apart for so long, what was it like working on the new songs, Voodoo and Headlines?
To be honest it was a really natural process. Emma [Bunton] and I were in the studio first, working on the new songs, and, actually, I had such a good time with her and it felt really good. It occurred to me is that what really makes a Spice Girls record is the importance of different people’s parts, rather than a Geri Halliwell record or an Emma Bunton record or a Melanie record. Everybody has key parts that they add to songwriting; it’s very interesting to watch.

Do the new songs incorporate any new musical influences or changes in direction?
With the ballad, Headlines, that was about the lyrics and the sentiment of it first and foremost. We were trying to make a really classic song that stands alone – a classic Spice Girls song stands alone no matter what timeframe you put it in – and then we put a slightly harder kind of beat on it to bring the song into this millennium, so to speak. The other song, Voodoo, is a tip to the past. I was listening to a lot of old school Michael Jackson, and it was Thriller that inspired Voodoo. Thriller and his Off The Wall album.

There have been some underwhelming pop act reunions of late. What do you think it is that differentiates the Spice Girls?
I think it’s very unfair to compare any other bands to the Spice Girls because first and foremost, we’ve never put ourselves in the same bracket. We’re a band that is accomplished worldwide, so it’s much more global. All I can say is that we keep the focus on ourselves and try to just be who we are – our reunion was very, very authentic. It was a heartfelt reunion first and foremost.

For me, success has always had two tiers – there has to be heart involved as well as commercial reasons, because the public will always smell it [if there isn’t]. We wanted to do this; it’s about reconciliation, it’s about celebration, and it wasn’t just a case of ‘let’s just do it and cash in’. We’re doing it because actually we wanted to celebrate our music and we knew that this was the right time to do it.

Do you think some pop reunions have been unsuccessful because the members got back together just for financial reasons?
Well no… I think… I don’t want to judge other people’s motivation, but I think our primary motivation is that we genuinely do like each other – contrary to what any newspaper tabloid c**p wants to say, there is a genuine affection between us.

One of the reasons that Spice Girls were so successful was that the band had a huge pre-teen appeal. Was that the result of a conscious effort by you, Simon Fuller and Virgin?
No, we’ve just been ourselves. We’ve never looked outwards, we’ve always looked inwards, to keep the focus on what we like. And if that appealed to pre-teens – who’ve now grown up – then fantastic. It may appeal to them again, who knows.

What made you decide to work with Simon Fuller again?
This whole reunion is about reconciliation, and, basically, you’ve got five very strong characters who generate a lot of work. It requires a lot of work to get a show on the road, that takes a huge amount of energy and resource, and Simon and 19 Management have the capacity and the courage to take that on.

How important was Simon’s influence and support in breaking America the first time around, and how important were Paul Conroy and the Virgin team?
Obviously it has to be a team effort - we’re only as strong as our weakest link. Virgin and Paul Conroy, they serviced and put our record out, which is fantastic, and Simon is very good at making sure that everybody else does their job, which is fantastic as well, we need that. The Spice Girls drive our own car, but we need people to navigate and implement our own vision, and Simon does that. And he has input and makes great suggestions as well. He’s got guts, like us.

Do you think the Spice Girls have been a positive influence on pop music and perhaps opened the door for a lot of the girl groups that have followed?
Yeah. I don’t want to sound like a big-head, but I think that’s a fair statement to say. I think we’ve definitely had an influence which is very flattering and which I think we’re all very pleased about, just as our predecessors have influenced us.

The girls have a history of aligning with brands, and this time round you’re partnering with Victoria’s Secret in the US and Tesco in the UK. What was it that convinced you to pair with these companies?
I’ll tell you why we do this: at the end of the day, this tour is probably the most expensive tour in history. Putting on a show of our magnitude is equal to a contemporary artist doing a tour that would take about 99 dates to recoup. It costs a fortune to put on the sort of show that we feel the public deserves and expects to see.

So in order for us not to lose money on it, we need supportive backing. Engaging with the principals like Tesco or Victoria’s Secret helps us support our public fanbase by delivering a better show. That’s why we engage in it, it doesn’t hurt us. These days I think it’s very accepted for artists. We almost started it, in a way.

Do you feel that Victoria’s Secret is a good fit for the group?
I think that just says who we are. We can connect with anybody, whether it’s the granny that shops at Tesco or the sexy woman that goes to buy a Wonderbra. It shows our range, and that we’re accessible in all areas.

What was behind the decision to adopt an R&B influence on Forever, the last studio album the group put out?
Well, I wasn’t in the band at that point, but I know Melanie B really loved R&B, and Victoria does as well, and from the minute we were in a band together, they always wanted that vibe. But we accepted that the majority want pop music, and it’s like all artists – if you look at Picasso, he had a blue period.

He had different creative periods, and Forever was a creative period in which the girls were expressing themselves. And I think that Rodney Jerkins was a very contemporary, on-the-pulse producer to work with at that moment. I think that album was really celebrating a style of music that is particularly loved by Melanie B.

Looking forward to the comeback shows, are you nervous about performing live?
I think as naturally as any performer is, yes, a little bit. But in a good way, I’m excited.

It seems that every week there are reports in the tabloids of fall outs…
That’s a load of c**p. It’s almost a joke. It’s really comical actually, because we’ve never gotten on better. It’s the biggest laugh ever - it’s like hanging around with your best buddies. We’re just rolling around with laughter the whole time, we lift each other up. It’s brilliant. But that’s not very tabloid friendly, it doesn’t make a good headline.

Do the other girls just laugh of the rumours too?
Yes, we just think it’s pathetic and silly that people choose to write silly things. But most of the time we just laugh.

One of the more curious stories since the reunion announcement is that fans can vote online for a city that you’ll perform in. I gather that Baghdad is getting lots of votes. Would you go and play there if that’s the most voted for city?
Well, if they really did vote that much… we’d cross that bridge when we come to it.

Looking to the future beyond the tour and the best of, will you go back to making solo records?
I’m just really keeping it in the day at the moment. I can’t really think past the tour. There’s such a big mountain ahead of us. For me, I’m just enjoying the fact that we’re together as a band, and right now, actually, I’ve no intention of making a solo pop record, I actually prefer being in a band. I get to be creative, be part of that process and there’s less pressure.

For me, it’s about the creation: I love the writing of the songs, and I like performing a bit. But when you shoot a video, you don’t have to be on whole shoot, you’ve got support, you’ve got other people. It’s much more fun doing it that way. Even writing songs is a much easier process. If one person dries up lyrically, there’s always someone else to chip in.

And have you and the girls discussed doing a new studio album?
Well no, for today our view is: this is just a celebration of the past and of the greatest hits album and that’s it.

The Spice Girls have cancelled their only announced concert in South America.

Sad.

The ladies just sent out the following email to fans that signed up for tickets to their Buenos Aires show:

“Hi there!

First of all, we would like to thank all our fans who bought our Greatest Hist Album, it’s doing great!

As you know, the demand for our concert tickets in the USA and the UK has been really overwhelming. So, in order to meet that demand, it’s not possible for us to keep extending the tour because of our solo projects and family obligations. That means we are unable to hold a concert in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We’re incredibly sorry for the delay in making this annoucement, but we have been really trying to fit this date in our schedule.

To make this up for you all, we’ll be having some great competitions for our South American fans. The lucky winners will attend one of our London shows (flight and accomodation included!) and will receive an All Access Pass! Isn’t that MAJOR?

Keep checking thespicegirls.com for news on rehearsals and exclusive contents!

Best Wishes

Emma, Geri, Mel B, Melanie C, and Victoria

I was just wondering, will any of the Spice Girls Tours be shown on television? Live or otherwise?

I seem to remember watching one of their shows from an old tour on Sky Box Office when I was younger, I was wondering if they are doing anything like this this time round.

If not, is there perhaps a DVD of the tour planned for release? Basically I don't plan on getting tickets, yet I kind of want to see their tour because it sounds quite exciting. sleep.gif

Spice Girls fear getting Ill!

The Spice Girls are worried that they may catch shingles because Geri Halliwell's daughter Bluebell has come down with chicken pox.

The illness can cause shingles when caught by adults, so Bluebell has been flown back to the rest of her family in the UK, according to The Sun.

The girl group feared that the illness may force them to cancel their comeback shows in Vancouver, San Jose, LA and Vegas.

A source commented: "Chicken pox is very contagious and when Geri noticed the spots on Bluebell she panicked and warned the rest of the girls.

"Older people who get chicken pox sometimes develop shingles, which could wipe out the band for weeks.

"And it’s not only them who are at risk. Bluebell has played a lot with Victoria’s sons Cruz and Romeo lately."

Posted by: Delta*Fan*Mel Nov 30 2007, 04:05 PM

Geri sadi in the GMTV interview that Bluebell was just at home (as in LA home) cuz of the chicken pox...not that she'd flown all the way to the UK. The SG wouldn't be able to catch shingles from the children's chicken pox anyway so the Sun are talking nonsense.

The Spice Girls have been banned from offering free tickets for their comeback tour to their showbiz friends.

According to a report in The Sun today, the girls' manager Simon Fuller decided to enforce the ban because he is determined to earn as much cash from the tour as possible.

The news means that A-listers like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, who are friends with Victoria Beckham, will have to buy their own tickets if they wish to attend a concert.

The Spice Girls have played to a large number of empty seats at their comeback show in Las Vegas.

Reports claim that nearly half of the seats in the Mandalay Arena were unoccupied when the girl group took to the stage last night.

This is the latest disappointment for the band, who also failed to to break the top ten with their comeback single 'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)'.

Their Greatest Hits album was also kept off the top spot by Leona Lewis' debut Spirit.

David Beckham was joined by recently defeated boxing star Ricky Hatton in a private box for the girl's performance.

Also in the audience was Wayne Rooney's girlfriend Coleen McLoughlin.

The group have one further date in Vegas tonight, before they move on to play New York.

Posted by: Freakshow Dec 12 2007, 12:08 PM

Thats bull$h!t lol, if it was so sold out then there wouldn't be empty seats and they wouldn't be adding more tour dates due to popular demand.

The Spice Girls have installed a creche at the O2 Arena in London in preparation for their 17-date residency.

All the girls except Melanie Chisholm now have kids and wanted their child-minders to have somewhere to entertain them during the two-hour shows.

A source told the Evening Standard: "They all want their babies close by and looked after, so their nannies also come with the package."

Other requests for the run - which starts tonight - include a kettle for Mel C and a daily supply of edamame soya beans for Victoria Beckham.

Emma Bunton will have scented candles, slippers and flowers, while Geri Halliwell has asked for Evian water and Mel C wants sparkling spring water. Meanwhile, all the girls have asked for light salads, fresh fruit and steamed fish to be provided.

Sir Richard Branson is expected to be in the audience for the opening gig after lending the band a jet to fly in from LA. The plane, a Virgin Atlantic Boeing 747, was renamed 'Spice One' in the group's honour.

It was recently revealed that Mel C and Geri had argued during rehearsals after Mel complained about "the babies everywhere".

Spice Girls add extra show date

The Spice Girls have added an extra date in Manchester to the UK leg of their world tour.
The group will now play the city's MEN Arena on Saturday 26 January. It will be their final UK performance.

The extra date is in addition to two sold-out Manchester shows, which will take place on 23 and 24 January. Tickets go on sale from Thursday.

The reunited girl group kicked off a 17-date London residency at the capital's O2 arena at the weekend.

The Return of the Spice Girls Tour began in Vancouver on 2 December and will continue in the New Year taking in the US, Canada, Argentina, China, Australia, and South Africa.

Geri Halliwell is eating garlic and beetroot on the Spice Girls' world tour, according to reports.

The singer has been having daily yoga sessions and sticking to a vegetable-rich diet to ensure that she is fit enough to keep up with the group's hectic schedule.

A source said: "Geri worked so hard to prepare for the tour. The fans mean so much to her and she is scared about letting them down if she were to get ill. She wants to perform to the best of her ability every night.

"She's very aware that even the slightest hint of a cold could keep her from performing and she has been obsessively saying to people, 'Don't let me get ill'.

The insider added: "She sees this as the Spice Girls' big chance to restart their careers. She wants to make sure that absolutely nothing goes wrong."

It was recently revealed that the band's UK comeback performance was marred by backstage tension between the stars.

Spice Girls: Old vs New
The reformed Spice Girls have staged one of the most successful comebacks of the year, with a top 10 album and a sell-out World tour.
But can the reunion ever capture the frenzied mayhem of the band's 1990s heyday?

Olivia Hunt, a die-hard fan when she was 10, went to see the band play at the O2 arena in London this week.

She reflects on how the fearsome fivesome has transformed over the last decade.

Each of the five Spice Girls has launched a solo career in the last decade

1997 Impact:

The Spice Girls were the first pop group my friends and I really got into. They came from ordinary backgrounds, and their message was that anyone could achieve their dream. They were a girl band for girls and their influence was remarkable.

Favourite Spice Girl

Mel C. She was cool because she could do back-flips and was a bit of a tom boy. I was fickle, though, and Geri was a close contender.

Favourite song

Stop. The song and dance routine were a must-have for all school discos and even the boys joined in! Their energy, extrovert personalities and song lyrics captured our imaginations.

Girl power

Boy bands saturated the music scene in the '90s and it took a really powerful girl band with a strong image to infiltrate the market. The Spice Girls were ambitious and determined to succeed. Girl Power was about accepting who you were and girls sticking together.

Spice fashion

Interesting, to say the least! Platform shoes and fun outfits that matched each girl's personality. Their influence on what we wanted to wear was huge. I can still remember begging my mum to buy me a pair of platforms!

2007 Impact:

The girls are now all famous individually - so their fan bases have multiplied. People who were young fans in 1997 are now in their early 20s and can afford to go back to see their childhood idols, while a whole new generation has discovered Girl Power.

Favourite Spice Girl

Victoria Beckham. I really like her sense of humour and sense of style. The biggest surprise of the concert was that she can actually sing!

Favourite song

Spice Up Your Life. They started and ended the show with it and the girls put on a fantastic performance! The Lady Is A Vamp was excellent, too. It was performed with a live band in a cabaret style.

Girl power

It had the potential to be watered down, now that the girls are in their 30s. But they represent girl power of a different kind - that of proud working mothers. They even brought their children on stage for Mama! However, the message is still the same: Girls on top, friendship forever.

Spice fashion

They're far more glamorous these days in specially-designed Roberto Cavalli dresses. But Geri wore her infamous Union Jack dress and Mel C wore trousers, which kept the essence of the original act.

Olivia, now 21, was just 10 during the first flush of the Spice Girls success

Spice merchandise

Deodorant, mugs, t-shirts... Absolutely everything was Spice-branded! I had a life-sized cardboard Posh Spice, although my Dad appreciated it more than me! The Spice Movie was also a must-have. One of my friends referred to it as "cinematic genius!"

Geri leaving

I was absolutely gutted! It seemed like the heart of the band had left with her. I think we also knew that this was the beginning of the end for the Spice Girls.

In concert

Unfortunately, I was never lucky enough to see the Spice Girls live back in their heyday.

Spice merchandise

The concert's merchandise stall sported a huge range of Spice memorabilia. In addition to the regular t-shirts and key rings, there were several items for the more mature fan - including Spice Up Your Life aprons and "zig-a-zig-waaah" babygros.

Geri leaving

You wouldn't know that she had ever left. On stage, she seems just as much a part of the group as she ever did. But if you believe the rumours, the tensions are still there.

In concert

It was well worth the wait - and the expense. They were simply fantastic!

Conclusion: If I'd seen them in the 1990s, I'm sure the costumes would have been less expensive, and the show less mature. But they have proved that, 10 years on, they still have what it takes. Girl power!

I love it except Mel C's top hat! laugh.gif!!!

But it's so funny that the audience cheers for each girl's solo except Victoria's!!! Whereas in the concert from what i can gather Victoria gets all the cheers!

Mel B has won a custody battle with her ex-husband Jimmy Gulzar to allow her to bring eldest daughter Phoenix Chi on tour with her.

Dancer Jimmy Gulzar, who divorced the singer in 2000, argued that she should not be allowed to take their eight-year-old daughter on the Spice Girls tour because the travelling would disrupt his visitation schedule.

The Spice Girl was given full physical custody of Phoenix Chi but Gulzar was granted set visitation rights to see her.

The issue was brought before a Los Angeles court, where Judge Robert Schnider ruled that the star should be allowed to have her children with her.

Brown has another daughter with actor Eddie Murphy, who denied he was the father until a DNA test proved otherwise.

Scary Spice married film producer Stephen Belafonte in June this year after a four-month relationship.

The Spice Girls have complained about mobile phone reception problems at the O2 Arena.

Mel B, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Geri Halliwell have all said that they have had trouble phoning their loved ones after performing for fans in London.

"All the girls and a lot of the crew are having difficulty getting any reception," an insider told The Sun. "They’re having such a great time doing the gigs - it's a shame that the simple task of making a mobile call is proving so tricky."

However, a spokesman for the venue insisted: "We've never had any complaints of this nature before. Our communication facilities are excellent."

Spice Girls @ O2 Arena, January 2
Digital Spy Gig Review

After the failure of their comeback single 'Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)', and disappointing sales of their much-hyped Greatest Hits album, it seemed the wheels were in danger of falling off the Spice reunion bandwagon. But tonight's gig, the fourth of 17 that the reformed girl group will play at London's 02 Arena, proves just how far a nice bit of nostalgia can take you.

From the opening trio of 'Spice Up Your Life', 'Stop' and 'Say You'll Be There', it’s clear that this isn't going to be the slickest of arena shows. The girls alternate between cranking out basic, year-one-at Sylvia-Young's dance moves and prowling round the stage in a ramshackle mob. Only Mel C's voice seems to reach the rafters of the 02 Arena, but, with the crowd desperate to sing along to every word, nobody seems to care.

For the most part, the pop vixens don't fiddle with the brilliance of their back catalogue. 'Too Much' is reworked into a finger-clicking big band number, 'Who Do You Think You Are' is given a thunderous house makeover, and 'Headlines' is bolstered by some surprisingly rocky guitar riffs, but, other than that, everything here could have been vacuum-packed in 1997 and reopened ten minutes before the gig started. Hell, Ginger even dusts off her old Union Jack dress for one number.

Because the Spice flame burned hard and fast – they only released ten singles before disintegrating in 2000 - tonight's set can't escape the curse of padding. A disco medley in which the girls take karaoke stabs at 'We Are Family', 'Celebration' and 'Shake Your Body (Down To The Ground)' could most politely be described as an exuberant mess, while the popstrels' solo numbers are a predictably hit-and-miss affair. Ginger's Saturday night at G-A-Y rendition of 'It's Raining Men' is surprisingly satisfying, but Baby's solo hit 'Maybe', a sixties-style pop romp, feels slight in an arena setting. Scary's decision to holler 'Are Gonna Go My Way' while lapping at the groin of a male audience member who looks as if he goes another way entirely, meanwhile, is unintentionally hilarious.

Nevertheless, for the most part, tonight's gig is as much fun as a ruthlessly-planned, expensively-staged arena show can be. Their bawdy banter might be heavily-scripted, and the crowd's decision to greet Posh's every note with a deafening roar (Well, she is the most famous, you know!) is somewhat unnerving, but, over two hours, these five women manage to convince us that being a Spice Girl is still the most fun, special, thrilling thing in the world. After all that's passed during the last decade, that's a pretty impressive achievement.

Bad news guys;

SPORTY SAYS C'YA TO SPICE GIRLS

THE SPICE GIRLS have split up again – after MEL C told them she has had enough.

The band have now pulled plans to take their reunion tour to Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina - and will play their final gig in Canada later this month.

Mel C had been locked in talks with bandmates VICTORIA BECKHAM, GERI HALLIWELL, EMMA BUNTON and MEL B over the band’s future.

But Sporty Spice does not want to continue so the girls have decided to call it a day.

Last night a Spice source revealed: “Geri and Victoria have been loving the attention and adulation the tour has been bringing the girls in the UK and North America.

“Mel B has really enjoyed being on stage and performing again. And Emma has found it hard with a young son but was prepared to carried on.

“But Mel C is the one who always insisted the reunion should be only short-term. Now she wants to go back to doing her own thing.

“Because they couldn’t all agree the extra tour dates have been pulled. Touring has been harder on all the girls this time round. But all of them could have been persuaded to continue - apart from Mel C.”

The band yesterday announced their gig in Toronto on February 26 will be their last.

Fans
Their statement added: “Sadly the tour needs to come to an end by the end of February due to family and personal commitments for Emma, Geri, Mel B, Mel C and Victoria.

“It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and North America dates, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina.

"But due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the UK and US, and the tour’s massive logistics, it was impossible to fit in everything.”

The Return Of The Spice Girls tour kicked off in Vancouver, Canada, on December 2 last year. It was the first time they had appeared as a five-piece since Geri left the band in 1998.

Dates were set for concerts in Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Beijing and Sydney this month.

But the tour schedule changed due to demand for extra London gigs and new dates were never set.

There were also questions about whether the girls could sell out all the cities.

The band said yesterday: “It’s been incredible being back together and seeing our fans again. Really sorry if we didn’t get to see you this time round.

“We have other commitments in our lives now. But who knows what will happen next?”

The band are making the most of their remaining tour time - Mel B celebrated a sell-out gig in Montreal, Canada, by DJ-ing at a local club.

But I think this is the last Spice world tour we will see - although I wouldn’t rule out another money-spinning stint in London or Las Vegas.

Anything longer term than that and they would have to be a four-piece - this time minus Mel C.

OMG! Mel C! It really does make you depressed that they didn't last longer than All Saints or even Take That.

can't believe they canceled their australian dates sad.gif

i no this sounds reaqlly sill but i dont want it all to end :-(

Posted by: Matt Aloud Feb 2 2008, 12:37 PM

I guess that means no Wembley homecoming cry.gif

Posted by: NatalieMT Feb 2 2008, 04:21 PM

To be honest I don't really blame them calling it a day now, it's already been a ridiculously long tour if it were me I'd be tired and if I hadn't wanted the tour in the first place as some members didn't I'd be wanting it to end aswell I'm sure. I can't imagine how upsetting it is for fans who haven't got to see them as yet to be told it won't happen but at the end of the day I guess making a big deal out of it won't change the decision.

So people are SO angry though it's insane, the amount of death threats on Mel C's messageboard is terrible, people are acting like she personally is to blame, which I don't think is true in the slightest despite some of these silly articles.

Posted by: designer_label Feb 2 2008, 04:42 PM

Mel C has ruined it - great!

Im glad I got to see the tour though

Posted by: David Feb 2 2008, 05:17 PM

Oh well. I saw it. cheer.gif It was always gonna be Mel C who ruined the party though tbf. sleep.gif

Posted by: Matt Aloud Feb 2 2008, 08:34 PM

depends what papers you read, others blame Mel B as well sleep.gif

It was always going to be a 3 month tour so it's not that surprising its finishing after 3 months laugh.gif

Posted by: NatalieMT Feb 2 2008, 09:00 PM

And the official statement -

"Melanie would like to make it perfectly clear that at no point has she refused to continue with the Spice Girls Tour.

She is very disappointed that the tour isn't continuing at this stage and, as she does not have the family commitments of the other Girls, she is in the best position of all of them to continue.

Any accusation that it was Melanie's reluctance to continue the tour that has brought about this situation is absolutely false."

Also technicalities people half the supposed 'cancelled' dates were never confirmed or on sales. I understand the fuss but nothing was ever set in stone there.

Posted by: Simon. Feb 2 2008, 09:54 PM

Real shame but it seems a heavy schedule to do.

Posted by: Slick Feb 2 2008, 09:58 PM

I think it's ridiculous they announced a world tour and only performed in two continents :\ It proves it was nothing to do with the fans and all about the money. "We've made enough now so we're off..."

That's what I feel too, I thought it was good that they were planning to perform in every continent (except Antarctica obviously) but it has ended up just being a tour to the biggest areas really.

I think they should carry on with all the places they announced because I'd hate to have been someone from these places that was hoping to see the Spice Girls one more time. I understand that four out of the five have young children and it must be bad for them going around the world with them, but I don't see what family commitments they could have that would force them to stop.

Posted by: Shameless Feb 3 2008, 03:04 PM

its no surprise as i think they did what they said they would do,if it was mel c who plugged the plug she has never made a secret of the fact she has reservations about reforming and when she did it was limited

Posted by: Lukuzz Feb 4 2008, 10:52 AM

It's a bit c**p for people who haven't seen them, glad I got to see them.

Posted by: Delta*Fan*Mel Feb 4 2008, 04:44 PM

I really think they'll be back to finish off the reunuion properly in the summer. The official statement points to future things in many parts and just says 'this stage' of the tour is coming to an end. Maybe I'm just too optimisitic but I really think it's not the end quite yet. Also I feel sooooooooooooo sorry for Mel C when she always gets blamed for everything, but out of all of them I think she is the least to blame for this part of the tour ending in February. She is the one who has been really into the concerts the most and she puts her heart and soul into everything - out of all of the girls she would want to see the tour through to the end and finish on a high.

I officially hate the UK tabloids for all the c**p they printed over the weekend mad.gif !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just so much rubbish and so many lies, yet everyone reading just believes it and it will probably affect Mel C's chances of reviving her solo career sad.gif .

Enjoy! Watching it was quite a nice surprise actually as it showed me the tour in a bit of a different light from what I remembered.

A few things of note on this renewed viewing:

- They nailed their 'main songs' performances. I even appreciated watching Too Much and the reprise this time pirate.gif
- Viva Forever and Holler steal the show for me. Absolutely stunning performances, greatly staged and choreographed!
- The chemistry of the 5 together is so special isn't it? I dont think Spiceworld2019 missed it that much but the 5 are really the real deal!
- The music arrangements were stunning and LIVE yahoo.gif Some of their best arrangements ever, all with simingly renewed energy. Very very good musically! Last year's tour could have benefited with the same level of care for its music ah angel.gif
- The design isn't as bad as I remembered it, actually. I like that the stage creates different atmospheres and stagings for different songs. It isnt anything groundbreaking but it works well
- It's so clear to me now how they have established a really good touring career: absolutely being superstars, all of them. All of them eat that stage, chewing every single moment. And it makes it all seem quite amazing actually. You can tell the crowds love it, and they really nailed it. They always seem to do, when on tour! Kudos to them. Other girlbands also have/had excellent touring careers - Girls Aloud, Destiny's Child, Little Mix are all touring giants - but they bring it up a notch. No wonder they are now doing Stadiums w00t.gif

Question - are they the first girlband to do a Stadium tour at all? Or at least a 100% sold out one? I can't image any other girlband doing stadium tours, definitely not at the level we saw last year w00t.gif

And the bad:
- Headlines' live version definitely makes the song better but it is still completely pointless as a performance.
- The solos and celebration medley still absolutely ruin it for me. Vicky's is just awkward, Mel B's is bad, Emma's is just kind of there, and Geri is so obviously miming its hilarious. Mel C is fine, I guess...
- Who Do You Think You Are not being live sleep.gif
- The costumes. Im not a fan still. Those opening costumes were terrible, bland and boring blink.gif
- If You Can't Dance. Still bugs me that they ruined it, completely ruined it... What a shame, for one of their best songs.

OMG now im going to go over there and get a life and a glass of wine thanks! Quarantine is killing me wacko.gif

YES YES YES YAASSSSSSSS w00t.gif

I agree with pretty much every single thing... except I do like Emma, Geri and Melanie C's solo's (and Victoria's lol wish she sang a song though). I feel their solo parts fit as part of the story and they are a huge part of the Spice Girls story... just wish Mel B had done I want you back or Feels so good OR if she was gonna do a cover at least do Word up!?

Also I like the WDYTYA and Viva Forever costumes wub.gif And I love Melanie B's giraffe print costume at the beginning.

Also what you said about them as a 5 is special is so true... although I've watched Wembley today aswell and I have to say the 4 piece with Victoria is vastly superior she has so much more stage presence than Geri wub.gif

The only other girl band I can think of who performed in a stadium is Girls Aloud when they were supporting Coldplay at Wembley Stadium... but otherwise not one!

True. I think the time for that has now passed, unfortunately. Had they continued with the Return tour into new territories like originally planned, I think they would have totally finished it with a few stadium dates like in 98, at least. But alas...

Here's hoping they will do more Stadiums one day. I hope next year is in an arena though - I much prefer it as you can hear and see everything whilst in Stadiums, its very uncomfortable, though obviously special...

I know a 5 piece Wembley Stadium date would be so bloody special wub.gif

I think the only chance of a 5 piece performance ever again would be for something like Glastonbury or a major one off event ala olympics. (Fingers crossed)

I'll never forgive those outfits for this tour, they were honestly awful. The WDYTYA ones in particular looked liked those cheap cover bands dressed up as the girls.

The setlist was also so uninspiring on this tour. Solo songs, a covers medley, IYCD butchered.

As a five piece, they would break Madonna's Wembley record.

Total record I mean, she played 9 Wembleys iirc, the most of all time by female artist.

Ah yeah, fair enough. Last year they TOTALLY could have filled Wembley Stadium at least a couple more times, for sure. With VB, they definitely could have done a longer residency. Probably right about selling out quite a few shows. Take That did 8 in a row one year with the 5 of them. I am sure the girls could have matched it at least with all 5 of them. IMAGINE w00t.gif

Although....

Call me delusional but I'll always be hopeful.
