I can have a run of 4 DNQ's in a row at the end of a streak of about 10 massive flops and only 2 hits and yet still be top 4.

Sheelah locking down the top two highest final points achieved And great to see The Last Time took over Hollywood as 'The most successful song' based on percentage available! I had a feeling it might have done when I saw that almost everybody who voted for it (which was nearly everybody) had it in their top 5

21 top tens out of 31 entries, that's ridiculous! Glad to be over 300 points clear of Tyron at the stop of the all time leaderboard as well

Most notable changes as follows:

- FSR Rontvia move to the top of the medal table and equal the record of victories set by Mdiče
- Kopečka's second place moves them up to third in the medal table, overtaking Quotosibb.
- Letland appear in the medal table for the first time.

Stats have been updated to include data from XXXIII.

Some notable changes:

- Kopečka equal FSR Rontvia's record of Top 10 Finishes, with 22. A second top 2 place in a row means Kopečka also equal the record for consecutive Top 2 finishes.
- Batidas join Mdiče and Quotosibb in having a victory as a debuting country.
- Quintessa equal the record for worst debut and also sadly join Singing God's Land as the worst performing country after finishing last with their so far sole entry. Should Quintessa enter next time (Please do!), it would lift them off the bottom.

New Personal best positions were earned by Lievant (3rd), Caerfyrddia (9th), Kluminican Republic (20th) and the four debuting nations Batidas (1st), FYR Vojvodina-on-the-Wold (26th), Aquafina (17th in SF1) and Quintessa (21st in SF2).

Basically it calculates the similarity of each countries votes and turns it in a percentage. It looks really complicated but apparently excel does everything when you have the formula.

Might be something worth looking at? I was confused by it at first though.

Torchwood have gone the longest with 26, never missing a final since their second appearance. Rontvia are next on 22 and Hendinia and Kopečka are both on 16.

A number of notable happenings this time...

New Personal Best positions achieved by the following countries:

Budtar - 17th
ChrIseland - 18th (Debuting)
Espen - 2nd
Fanadminaj - 21st (Semi Final)
Isconia - 1st
Kluminican Republic - 5th
Quintessa - 16th (Semi Final)

Unovia equal their PB with a second 8th place.

Isconia and Espen appear in the medal table for the first time.

America join the UK in achieving the most victories based on nationality.

Lana Del Rey becomes the 9th highest points scorer for the semi final eras of BJSC.

New Sections

Following on from a question asked regarding most consecutive top 10 places since a country's debut, this section has now been added to the thread. The current record is 4 top 10 placings and is held by Batidas, Hendinia and Mdiče.

Another new addition is the section regarding countries that have finished on every position in the top 10. FSR Rontvia achieved this goal for the first time during XXXVI.

There are three new add on's regarding DNQ's. Most DNQ's, Most Consecutive DNQ's and Most Consecutive DNQ's from a countries debut.

A stat regarding the highest number of top marks awarded in a final is also included, the current record is held by Isconia who received 9 sets of 12 points in this edition. This info was provided by Rich!

And the final new section concerns the biggest differences between winners and their Semi final positions. Both Hendinia and FSR Rontvia have finished 6th in a semi final and gone on to win the final with the same song.

Thanks as ever Ghosty, some great new stats this time

Interesting to see that best improvement from semi to the final stat, interestingly until I received the last 5 or 6 votes in for Semi 2, Lorikeet were looking like a DNQ, and then in the end they finished 3rd in the final - really surprised me!

I can't recall Danny Saucedo being entered 5 times at all, probably because he flopped each time

No problem . At the moment, the best improvement from SF to final stat only focuses on songs that went on to win the contest. I will probably look into putting in information about the biggest improvement from Semi final to final, regardless of position, ready for the next time I update the thread as I'll have to go through all the data from the previous semi finals. Should be interesting to find out though!

The previous entries by Danny were All On You (SF17th), If Only You (13th), In Your Eyes (10th), Just Like That (5th) and Crash And Survive (28th). Bit of a mixed bag results wise!

Interesting to see! I have to say that having come 8th in the semi I was fully expecting Ria not to come much higher than mid-table in the final, thankfully there were people in the opposite semi who liked it a lot! No idea what happened to Torchwood there though

I always think it must come as a shock to the host when a song that didn't reach the top five in the semi goes on to win the final! It was obvious to me that either Espen or Isconia were going to win XXXVI based on the semi results, I don't think I've ever actually seen such conclusive leaders in a semi before, especially considering how strong it was overall!

Updated to include results for XXXVII.

Not many notable changes this time. Farahtyn claim victory for the first time, whilst new peaks are obtained by Caerfyrddia (7th) and debuting nations Usfland (18th), Ramrynia (22nd), Daehun (SF16th), Séyetana (SF17th) and Avalonia (23rd).

FSR Rontvia now hold the record for current unbroken string of appearances in the final after Torchwood sat out the last edition. This record currently stands at 25 appearances.

New sections

4 new sections have been added regarding improvement and regression in results from Semi Final to Final. These sections can be found at the end of the first post, just above the information about Most Used Artists.

Yeah, the stats thread was updated a few days ago, here are the notable changes after BJSC 38:

- FYR Vojvodina is now the sole record holder for current unbroken string of appearances in the final without ever failing to qualify, with 6 appearances.
- Quintessa equal Palmyra's record for most consecutive DNQ's from debut, with 6 in a row (Very undeserved imo, Like A Stranger is fantastic!)
- Mezidinia join 10 other countries in the worst debut category, after placing last in the semi final.
- Sober has become the sixth most successful entry to date, and is the 4th most successful in the semi final era.
- Daehun equal Hendinia's record for best improvement from semi final to final, finishing 20 places higher in the final than expected.
- Usfland had the worst regression in BJSC 38, finishing 13 places lower than expected - this isn't a new record though.
- Velvet enters the most used artists category after her fifth appearance.

New personal best positions achieved/equalled by the following:

Kopečka - 1st (equalling PB)
Juranabaijan - 5th

Stats updated to include data from XXXIX. Not much going on this time in terms of records, but the following countries equalled or surpassed their highest positions:

Hendinia - 1st (for the third time)
Kluminican Republic - 2nd
Fljótavík - 5th (for the second time)
Unovia - 6th
Séyetana - 14th
Ramrynia - 20th
Armenijain - SF17th (Debuting)
Mezidinia - SF20th

Although not new records, incase anyone is interested, the biggest improvement from Semi Final to Final was Mdiče who finished 17 places higher than expected, and the biggest regression was Dalisska who finished 15 places lower than the semi final result suggested.

It should all be fixed now, so all the new info is the same as I posted above, except Ramrynia's new peak is 21st instead of 20th and Dalisska finished 14 places lower than expected, rather than 15.

Stats updated to include data from XLI.

Notable changes:

- Following their ninth consecutive appearance in the final, FYR Vojvodina-on-the-Wold are now the sole current record holder of having the most appearances without ever failing to qualify.
- Numayania is the second nation to finish at least once in every position in the top 5. They join FSR Rontvia in achieving this feat.
- New Caprica unfortunately equal the record set by Herzebania for the lowest scoring song in a semi final after B.A.P. scored 1 point.
- The XLI entries from Fljótavík and Ashton have made it into the top 10 most successful songs based on percentage of points available. They are ranked 2nd and 6th respectively. Both also appear in the highest scoring songs for the VII-XXV/XXXII-XLI era, ranking 2nd and 5th respectively.

No new records set in terms of improvement and regression between the semi final and final in XLI. Incase anyone is interested however, the biggest improvement was seen by Unovia who finished 13 places higher than projected and the biggest regression was seen by N-Lazone who finished 9 places lower than expected.

- Ingermanlandia now hold the record for "Unbroken String of Appearances in the Final Without Failing to Qualify", with 2 appearances.

Stats updated to include data from XLV.

Notable changes:

- Woodkid is our first French winner.
- Run Boy Run achieved the 7th highest points total for the semi final era.
- Batidas make their debut inside the points rankings for top 10 finishes, whilst Persephonia debut in the top 20 rankings for non-winners.

New additions:

The total points rankings now also come with information showing how much a country has moved up or down the overall rankings. The plus numbers mean the country is climbing the rankings while the minus numbers show a fall. #00274E achieved the highest climb this time, rising 21 places.

Two new categories regarding semi final performance have also been added. These are "Most Semi Final Wins" and "Most Last Places in the Semi Final". Ashton & Mdiče both have the highest amount of wins, topping a semi final on 4 occasions while Farahtyn are the holders of most last places, finishing bottom on 5 occasions.

New PBs achieved by the following:

1st - Ingermanlandia (Debut win on their third appearance)
3rd - Ramrynia
4th - #00274E

Just so you know, one of Ramrynia's 6th places is still highlighted as a personal best as well as the 3rd place just in case you had missed it!

I'm liking how the last 13 winners have all been by different countries and all vaguely inspired! I would like to be more prominent in the stats though.

Stats updated to include data from XLVI.

Notable changes:

- The points margin between Aeroche and #00274E was the third smallest for the top 2 in the contest's history.
- Utopia now hold the record for the biggest regression in results between the semi final and final for an entry after In The End finished 19 places lower than the semi final result suggested. Järkangel had the biggest improvement this time round, finishing 16 places higher than the SF result suggested, but this is not a new record.
- Bignia-Zaragovina appear in the top 20 countries who haven't won based on points achieved in the final. They push Persephonia down a place, but there's only 4 points between them!
- Wynter Gordon is now the second most used artist in the contest.

New Sections:

Longest Absence:
Deandria's return to the contest means they have had the longest break between contests so far, after sitting out 23 editions. Allecian previously held the record with 21 editons missed.

Best/Worst Result Achieved Following A Win:
A new section to identify who followed up a win the most and least successfully. Both Mdiče and FSR Rontvia won twice in a row, whilst in the semi final format, Greenfroze least sucessfully followed up a win, finishing 30th in the final. In the One Big Final format, Hendinia achived the worst placing following a victory, finishing 35th.

The "Country History" section has been condensed a bit too. I've just changed all the "missed's" to "x"s just to save space, nothing major. I did check over the history as well so it hopefully it should be correct now. Once again, if anybody does spot any errors then do please let me know!

New PBs achieved by the following:

1st - Aeroche
2nd - #00274E
3rd - Umiiruka

Key changes:

- Kopečka's departure means that Ashton, FSR Rontvia and Kylienips are the three record holders for Most Appearances, all of them never missing an edition.
- Aeroche have broken a number of records with their third win, for Most Consecutive Wins, Consecutive Placings in the Top 2, and they are joint record holders with Numayania for Most Consecutive Top 3 Placings also.

I've added in new sections for Most and Least successful winners (based on the percentage of points available) and also the highest points achieved by a last placed entry in the final, which was achieved by Greenfroze in the most recent edition.

New/Equal PBs for the following:

Not a lot going on this time at all really! Only a new peak for N DNTN (4th), and equal PBs for Fljótavík (1st) and Skall (2nd).

No new records for improvement and regression between semi final and final, however Daehun had the best improvement finishing 12 places higher than expected and Batidas had the largest regression finishing 16 places lower. Although it isn't a new record, it's interesting to note that on semi final performance alone, Fljótavík were projected a 6th place finish in the final.

- Frida Sundemo is the 30th female solo winer and Indigo is the 10th winning song in the contest to originate from Sweden.
- Ingermanlandia join Faztickle in having the most appearances without failing to qualify with 8 appearances since their debut.
- FSR Rontvia join Ashton and Mdiče in achieving the most semi final wins, with 4 victories.
- Terra Avium equal the record set by Sangria for most consecutive DNQ's (undeservedly so, imo) with 7 straight fails.
- Cascadia trounce the recent record set by Deandria for most editions missed before returning after sitting out 36 contests before returning in BJSC 50.
- Based on the number of votes given to the respective entries, the top 2 in this contest was the joint smallest relative winning margin with the margin set in BJSC XLIII.
- Sugababes appear in the most used artists section after their fifth appearance in the regular editions of BJSC.

No new records set in terms of improvement and regression between the semi finals and final, however out of interest, the best improvement was seen by Umiiruka who finished 13 places higher than expected and the biggest regression was seen by Fljótavík who ended up 18 places lower than the semi final score suggested.

Hello there! Welcome to the first of the, now, 4 stats updates to be carried out by The Federal Republic while we hunt for a new Stats Mod!

Starting off this update with the fine nations who landed themselves a new peak!

Onwards we head to the BJSC Records!

- Aeroche add two new records to their tally stealing 'Most Appearances in Final Without Failing to Qualify' & 'Unbroken String of Appearances in Final, Without Ever Failing to Qualify' from Ingermanlandia.
- Ashton steals the 'Most Semi-Final Wins' all to themselves, notching up a 5th Semi win with Tone Damli! The Federal Republic also becomes the third nation to have finished at every place in the top5 after finally scoring their missing 3rd place.


This tour wouldn't be complete without a visit to the Hardcore Stats section!

- Batidas land the 'Biggest Improvement in Result from Semi-Final to Final for a Winner'


From one X-Rated section to the next as we visit the Whores of BJSC!

- Le Kid spread their collective legs open a 7th time to join Lady GaGa in equal 3rd position.
- Tone Damli and Tegan & Sarah both see their 5th appearance to join our chart in equal 9th.

To the section we all care about! Overall points! First up is the Top 25 Non-Winners.

- A lot of movement in this double update sees Ojnoj steal the number 1 from Torchwood to become the most successful nation yet to win BJSC. Previous holders include; Kopečka, Ashton and Botanikka! All of whom have gone onto seize victory. So no pressure!
- Big climbers in this section are Skall up 3 to 13 and Ramrynia up 5 to 17.
- Espen and Tinnmark both leap into the top5 at 4 and 5 respectively

All time ranking next, starting out with the 'others' section
- Fljótavík leap 5 to knock on the door of the top25 in 26th.
- Registering the biggest climb, at a massive 11 places, are Bellamia (up to 105) and #00274E (up to 57)

Updated for LIII. I offered to do this to help out the BJSC mods and it's taken me a straight 2 and a half hours of checking and double-checking everything! Serious respect to Ghosty/Silas for doing that every month.

Anyway, on to notable changes this month:

New peaks for all of these, so congratulations:

Carli being Swedish gives that country a total of 13 winners, overtaking the 12 British winners to cement its place as the #1 country here. Look Up's 199 points also put it joint 8th (10th to stop it looking messy) in the 'Highest Final Points achieved' rankings under the current system.

Unfortunately Aeroche DNQing for the first time leads to them losing their dual records of 'Most appearances in the Final without failing to qualify' and 'Current Record for Unbroken String of Appearances in the Final, without ever failing to qualify'. The former is now held jointly by this contest's winners, #00274E and old favourites Faztickle who, unless they return and DNQ, will probably be holding this record until the end of time when/if JakeWild eventually DNQs. If Jake chooses to AQ or just qualifies anyway next time he'll hold it on his own.

The other record is held by #00274E alone, but only counts those contests since their return, that is, 3.

RaNia - Just Go now holds the record with Draumurinn - Draumurinn for most points gained by a last-placer in the final.

In the all-time rankings, Fljótavík overtakes Herzebania to get inside the top 25, but that's the only movement in the entire top end.

Further down, past Zechonia, Skall and Batidas edging up there's a tight squeeze as Persephonia, Ramrynia and Caerfyrddia all bunch up around the 1630 mark, Persephonia climbing 3 places. Other notable movements include: Bignia-Zaragovina climbing 2 places to 38, Daehun is up 3 to 46, Juranabaijan up 2 to 51, #00274E up 4 to 53, Ingermanlandia up 5 to 56, N DNTN up 7 to 61, Aquafina up 4 to 75, Sandebörg up 11 to 82, D'yermak'er up 13 to 95, Yehesi as a new entry at 114 and Mezidinia, blasting off the bottom of the board with their first qualification, they're up 16 places to 112.

Daehun has overtaken M.K.L to place them inside the top 25 nations under 'Most Points accrued without winning'

No new records for improvement or regression but the biggest movers from the semi-final were Juranabaijan (finished 11 places higher than projected) and Ojnoj (finished 18 places lower than projected).

omg I actually now have to finish at #4 and 6 to be the 'I finished in all positions within the Top 10' country and only at #15 to be in the ENTIRE TOP 20. *.* So it's 3 positions until I will have finished in each position of the Top 20 at least once YAY

I think it would be preferable for everyone for us to not have to do two at once, so I've updated for LIV. Obviously there are some changes that we know of for LV post-semi results, but I'll leave those until LV is updated.

As far as we're concerned here...

New peaks for:
Skall (1st)
Caerfyrddia (4th)

Terra Avium (21st)
Sandénia (30th, DEBUT)

FSR Rontvia, with Colors winning the semi-final, now draws level with Ashton on semi-final wins, 5 apiece. Rontvia's are Nobody Without You, Boys & Girls, Robots In Love, Hunters And The Wolves, and now Colors. Ashton's are Like A Girl In Love, Warpath, and their three Tone entries.

As noted above, Hendinia has now finished in every position in the top 5 and top 10, joining Rontvia on the latter, who had held that position alone for nearly 20 contests before a second nation joined them.

In the rankings, Espen moves up to 12th, PRoJ up to 17th, and Skall with their win begin to breathe down the necks of the top 25. Lower down, Caerfyrddia, Altyr Muunilinst and Séyetana are all up 4 places with many more making minor gains.
Aquafina is currently on 666 points (and has risen 6 places). Apt.

Skall breaches the top 20 of the top 10 finishers, while their disappearance from the non-winner rankings has allowed Unovia to push in at #25.

Plenty of people not reflecting their semi results this time, and one new record is set with Fljótavik's Juveniles equalling Us' record for biggest regression, going from a projected 6th to a final position of 25th. Biggest improvement is shared between Hendinia and Ashton both rising 14 places (if I've done those right) but not a new record.

I've always felt the Highest Final Points achieved (VII-XXV/XXXII-LV) section was a bit lacking seeing as it now contains over 3/4 of all the contests we've ever done, but historically gave the same listings (only the top 10) as the other two scoring eras. Therefore I've taken the liberty of expanding it to include the top 25. Originally I had thought of doing the top 20, but the Alcazar/Dragonette (same number of votes even!!) tie fell into that placing, so I went down to 25 to avoid questions about leaving one of those out. I had thought about doing that when I was updating Carli's contest, as it would have been more relevant then, but hey. More chance of new winners getting a mention in this stats thread.

As the new contest has provided me with a little bit of excitement about BJSC again, it's the perfect time to update this. This may be the last one I do, as next time there should be a new Stats mod in the building. Not that I don't enjoy doing these little updates, it's rather therapeutic.

OTHER HIGHLIGHTS:

We're in the unusual situation of having no-one in the LVI final who's never DNQed. That makes one record obsolete. Although we have #00274E and two debutees in LVII so it'll be back soon.

After nearly 6 years and 23 top 10s, Mdiče has finally achieved a 5th place. This gets them both the record for finishing in every position in the top 5 and enables them to overtake Kopečka in the 'top 10 only' rankings. They're also only a 9th place away from joining FSR Rontvia and Hendinia in holding every position in the the top 10.

Poor brave Singerpurear, after suffering their 6th DNQ, are now drawing with Palmyra and Quintessa for 'Most consecutive DNQs from debut'. At this point Quintessa gave up and Palmyra qualified on their next attempt, if Singerpurear fails to qualify this time they will hold this unfortunate record alone, as well as drawing with Terra Avium and Sangria for 'Most consecutive DNQs' overall.

Ghost Loft is now our Least Successful Winner, owing to the tightness last month. Previous record holder 'moan' had 26.14% of possible points, while 'So High' was only able to garner 25.94%. Sorry Seven, but at least you get a record.

In the rankings, Hendinia and Mdiče overtake absent Numayania and push them out of the top 5, Utopia and Fljótavík both breeze past Lorikeet and Altyr Muunilinst enters the top 30.

I've just updated some of the simple numbers and stats and all the tables at the bottom.

Espen take over the current unbroken string of appearances in the final record from Skall, with 12.

Jamvale made their first final and are removed from the 'never made the final' list and Ginsay Lohands failed to qualify for the first time since they started last year.

Daehun take over from Isconia's "Video Games" for most top scores received in the final with ten.

If anyone knows off the top of their heads of something that has changed (particularly those stats involving percentages) then I'll edit that in too.

The massive list of countries and 'chart runs' will be edited in later, I have the updated info from Bray (after he said it doesn't take that long to update ) but it needs double checking for errors.

I'd be surprised if there's ever another addition to the top 10 of all time based on percentage. Indila broke the 12s record and got the 2nd highest points score of all time (aside from those contests with the 18-point voting system) but was still a fair amount off #10 on that list. There are just too many people entering these days with too diverse tastes for it to be possible for a song to average more than 5 points received from every single other country (which is what is required).

Haha, yeah I'm happy to do it as I already have the spreadsheets needed from the last few times I've done it. I'll try and get it done over the next couple of days, I'm not sure how long it will take but when I did 3 contests at once earlier this year I think it took 2-3 hours or so, so hopefully if I put my mind to it I'll be able to sort it out before 2015!

I always struggle to realise whether any of the records at the bottom have been broken so if I don't notice them, I hope Bré or someone will point them out.

Just a heads up, the only thing that isn't updated yet is the projection records as we don't have full semi results yet but they very rarely change anyway and it'll only take a second to edit it if it turns out there is a record-breaker. The semi-final wins record has already been updated as I got a little exclusive from Math!

BJSC74 had the first ever top 2 of foreign language entries it seems (and in the ~inspired~ languages of Arabic and Finnish at that)! Only the third foreign language winner after 'Mitt Liv Är Mitt' and 'Dernière Danse' (unless I'm being blind) and the runner ups to both of those were English language tracks.

Daehun/Persephonia top 2 in two out of three of the foreign language win months *.*

Thank you Jack for copying the updated stats over and Bre for his help as always. I've made a couple of separate stats for LXXIV onwards as it made the most sense for me to do so and Iz and Bre agreed so hopefully that's ok.

If I remember rightly when I was updating the stats, Bre rechecked all the percentages for me on his big spreadsheet and found a few of them to be wrong - Foxes was most affected but there were a few other changes too.

It changed quite a while ago, I can't remember the exact details of the changes but Foxes should never have been top 10 I don't think.

If anyone knows they have broken the improvement/regression records in the past 3 official contests or someone else (Bré ) knows someone has then please do let me know as there's too many numbers involved in those records for poor me to get my head around!

Rykka 'Movies' technically broke the record regression (projected 9th to final 39th) but not sure whether that should really count considering that was after a 33% deduction.

Crystalyne weren't far off the record progression (they went from 40th to 15th).

If i'd had my way there would be less than 29.

Some will come back in the future but a lot of them were restating things you could see 7 other places. Eventually we'll get to a place where we have an automated set of stats that will update as soon as we key in the new data but in the medium term things were culled because it was unmanageable and we have more important things to be doing than spending 5 hours on the stats thread.

For anyone who it may interest Aeroche have finally overtaken Hendinia to #2 on the all-time points table after BJSC 103 ;o x (at the same time though, FSR Rontvia's 2nd place has pushed them back to the top of the medal table as FSR and Aeroche still have 8 wins each but FSR now have one more 2nd placer).

But the main purpose of the thread existing is to look back at what songs have been sent already which is covered by the OP of the temporary thread so I figured all the extraneous presentation and stuff can wait until it's fully finished. Which... yes, might take years based on me having stalled progress on it for quite a while now oops (but I am planning to get back to properly working on it very soon).

If y'all want I can post the unfinished version once I've updated it to BJSC 120 - the remaining work I need to do on it is pretty much entirely stuff that no one other than me would ever notice anyway xx (just things like checking there are no typos and inconsistencies etc., I've checked it up to BJSC 25 so far)
