This was voted into the semi-final by Common Sense but he didn't vote this time so it finishes bottom. The song originated as 'Le Moribond' by the Belgian Jacques Brel (1961). It was translated into English by Rod McKuen in 1964 and his version was first recorded by The Kingston Trio. Terry Jacks' version,with slightly altered lyrics,is about his friend who died from leukemia. He tried to record it with the Beach Boys but when that didn't work out,he ended up singing it himself. It was no.1 for 4 weeks in 1974 and was also a Christmas no.1 for Westlife in 1999 as part of a double A side with 'I Have A Dream'. Terry Jacks is now an environmental activist.

Yes,Buzzjack prefers 'Relax' which qualified easily in Semi 1. Two Tribes would certainly be my favourite out of the two.

Bearing in mind streaming was an option by that time,this could be viewed as the most unpopular no.1 ever so it's done well to finish as high as 34th here. Orson had three more top 40 hits before splitting up in 2007.

I loved Prayer In C loads at the time, even before it was properly released in the UK. It's a shame that it's being left behind now despite being quite a big hit, you don't hear it much anymore. I still revisit it sometimes.
