BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dance _ David Guetta singles survivor [ROUND 2]

Posted by: danG Nov 8 2019, 10:57 PM

David Guetta is undeniably one of the biggest hitmakers of the decade and it's about time we gave him a singles survivor.

Because he has sooo many singles, only his UK top 40 hit singles where he is credited as an artist have been included... PLUS his unjust #41 smash 'Stay (Don't Go Away)' to take us to a round 40.

Simply vote for up to FOUR of your LEAST favourite singles and the FOUR with the most votes will be eliminated.

Now onto tonight's eliminations...

40. Goodbye [w/ Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj & Willy William] [19 votes, 14.84%]

It's time to say "Goodbye" to what is in my opinion David Guetta's absolute worst hit single and I'm glad you all agree. The song was a joint single with Jason Derulo with guest raps from Minaj and William. It was intended for both Guetta's and Derulo's most recent studio albums, although it was later scrapped from the Derulo album. Its sample of 'Time To Say Goodbye' proved to be divisive though clearly it had more haterz than love. It remains as Guetta's most recent top 40 hit to date (and also Derulo's), having peaked at #26 and being certified Silver, but hopefully he can change that sometime soon.

39. Dirty Sexy Money [w/ Afrojack, Charli XCX & French Montana] [10 votes, 7.81%]

"Dirty Sexy Money" was released as the 2nd track from the "7" era in collaboration with Afrojack and Charli XCX plus a guest rap from French Montana and co-production from Skrillex. It is somewhat surprising that this falls out already considering Charli's significant Buzzjack fanbase although this isn't one of her most highly regarded songs. The French Montana rap is one of the laziest I've heard from him and overall this is definitely not one of Guetta's essentials so no complaints from me. It managed to reach #35 in the chart and is certified Silver.

37. I Can Only Imagine [w/ Lil Wayne & Chris Brown] [9 votes, 7.03%]

"I Can Only Imagine" was released as the 6th single from Guetta's most successful "Nothing But The Beat" era and despite coming late in the era it reached #18 in the chart. It is one of his worst singles for me however with neither of the guest vocalists doing a great performance, and the production is not enough to save it.

37. Hey Mama [w/ Nicki Minaj, Afrojack & Bebe Rexha] [9 votes, 7.03%]

Going out on a tie with the last track is "Hey Mama", which I didn't vote for but would have targeted next so I'm also pleased to see this leave. It is another track produced with Afrojack which leaves him with no more tracks in the running, and features Nicki Minaj who is now down to two songs though neither that remain are likely to leave anytime soon. It was the 4th single from "Listen" and followed the previous three into the top 10 where it peaked at #9 (certified Platinum) however it was the most successful of the era in America where it peaked at #8. It is also the most successful David Guetta song on YouTube where it has over 1.3 billion views.

Just escaping elimination this time around is his first hit 'Just A Little More Love', with 'Little Bad Girl', 'LaserLight', 'This One's For You' and 'Don't Leave Me Alone' also attracting a fair few votes.

Results so far...
37. Hey Mama [w/ Nicki Minaj, Afrojack & Bebe Rexha] [9 votes, 7.03%]
37. I Can Only Imagine [w/ Lil Wayne & Chris Brown] [9 votes, 7.03%]
39. Dirty Sexy Money [w/ Afrojack, Charli XCX & French Montana] [10 votes, 7.81%]
40. Goodbye [w/ Jason Derulo, Nicki Minaj & Willy William] [19 votes, 14.84%]

Correct bottom 2 but there's absolutely no way those other 2 should be out already over the piles of garbage / mediocrity that are still here xx (Chris Brown songs usually make themselves easy to hate but this one was a good song).

Continuing to vote for 'Like I Do' and 'Play Hard' and now adding 'Shot Me Down' and 'Commander' (the latter I imagine will last a while though).

Wow, there is an awful lot of dated trash here. Oddly enough, most of his pre-2010 stuff actually still sounds great though.

Voted Laserlight, Play Hard, Lovers on the Sun and Shot Me Down (forgotten all about that last one, horrible).

Same 4 as last time for me.

I like 3 of those that were eliminated! At least Goodbye finished last, not a song I dislike but extremely average and would have been the 5th worst overall imo.

Also I've just noticed the Love theme in all of his first 4 singles here, puts Sigala to shame!

Voted ‘Don’t Leave Me Alone’, ‘Mad Love’, ‘2U’ and ‘This Ones For You’ this time round.

Surprised to see Hey Mama out so early! On the other hand Dirty Sexy Money and I Can Only Imagine didn't deserve it sad.gif

How is 'Just A Little More Love' getting that many votes compared to some of the absolute dross still in here?

Is it because it's less well-known, or because it's at the top of the list and more visible?

HA! Goodbye Play Hard dance.gif

I genuinely wonder if some people are seeing the 'Wally Lopez Remix' tag and thinking it's a version of the song they don't know or something. Seems really odd that it's doing so badly.

Omg... this!

Just A Little More Love isn’t really pinnacle Guetta and is before a lot of listeners’ times. I only know of it from going back through his earlier releases myself and I can’t say it’s his best or even remotely up there as one I often return to. There are only 2 edits and the Wally Lopez one was the commercially released/charted one, I’ve never heard the Elektro version.

Laserlight
Lovers On The Sun
Bang My Head
Shed A Light

I think people are voting Just A Little More Love cos its track 1 :/ people are just lazy biggrin.gif
he has many worst ones... in perspective he's worked with some great artists (ie Sia) but also with some shitty ones (Anne Marie, Jessie J, Nicki Minaj)
