BuzzJack Music Forum _ Movies and Theatre _ Most disturbing film you've seen

What is the most disturbing film that you've seen and why?

Mine would have to be:

Hostel 2.

A nasty piece of work that was much worse than the first one. Vile to watch.

Threads.

Truly horrific and actually quite plausible at the time (and still is in many ways)

Posted by: Chez Wombat 13th June 2017, 05:10 PM

Funny Games. Not for the faint of heart...

Posted by: Cody S. Berry 13th June 2017, 05:11 PM

Fifty Shades Of Grey tbh

Both are great but I have to give it to the original as the superior version

There is literally only one film that comes to my mind when I think about the most disturbing film and for me it's 'Martyrs' (2008). Such a harrowing, dark, unpleasant, unsettling, hard to watch & downright disturbing movie all the way through. But it's done in such a mesmerizing way that, although disgusted, you just can't stop watching.

It could be under weird but Eraserhead is pretty disturbing too

Posted by: Alex! 13th June 2017, 07:27 PM

Human Centipede. I regretted watching it, didn't even get half way through. Can't believe they made 2 more. sick2.gif

Eraserhead is brilliant in every way possible.

The soundtrack is among the greatest ever

Found from 2012, not nice at all to see.

Coraline

Agree with Jonjo, Martyrs for me.

August Underground's Mordum. I've seen every horror/thriller going, gore doesn't bother me in the slightest, but this film is from the absolute depths of hell. It's an underground horror film and it's literally like you're watching a real snuff video. I honestly can't stress enough how disturbing it is.

A little example of how f***ed up it is - There's a scene where a woman is disemboweld and a guy chews on her spilled innards/has sex with them.

^Wow.

The only film that springs to my mind when I think of disturbing would be 'A Serbian Film'. I've never actually seen it (nor do I really have any desire to despite a small part me wanting to just out of sheer curiosity) but a few friends of mine have & let's just say it didn't take much explanation to work out what it was all about.

Posted by: DalekTurret32 5th July 2017, 10:26 PM

:/

Posted by: Severin 5th July 2017, 10:56 PM

I think Mordum is really well done but ultimately kind of boring. I admire it but it lacks any depth and whilst it's quite smart it is also quite shallow.

A Serbian Film, meanwhile is really just trying to upset people by shocking them, to the point hat it's just silly.

I'd recommend watching Mordum if you are so inclined because it is quite an experience but A Serbian Film is basically trash and trying too hard.

Funny Games, for example is a much smarter commentary on our desire to watch violence/porn

As an aside I'm surprised Irreversible is yet to get a mention.

Yup, that'd be my second pick. The fire extinguisher to the face scene + THAT rape scene...truly grim. manson.gif

Human Centipede.

Only saw a few minutes or so when changing TV stations and that was definitely too much.

"The Mist" by stephen king. This is truly a Master Piece, the ending was so good yet so disturbing. The people who watched the movie will understand what i am trying to say.

For all the right reasons, Requiem For A Dream.

So SO disturbing and haunting but it is so effective at getting its message across.

The ending is brilliant. For me, it's what elevates it from a really good film to being something truly memorable and special.
My girlfriend however refuses to watch it again because of how upset it made her.

I Spit On Your Grave (the updated version)

Some vile scenes which made me feel sick.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 5th August 2017, 09:14 PM

The individual scene that disturbed me the most in the past few years was the "disappearing fingers" scene in Looper. I had nightmares after seeing it. Such an effective , yet distressing scene.

Posted by: Mack. 2nd February 2018, 11:38 PM

BUMP

Antichrist yes that is one f***ed up film, the only time I have thrown up watching a film disgusting as well as The Human Centipede. I Spit In The Grave the updated version is disgusting as well, awful to watch especially that rape scene.

Posted by: ionderella 3rd February 2018, 08:21 AM

It will sound weird but Dancer in the Dark. I was pretty disturbed by it at the time especially the last scenes

THIS. Though I did watch the first one in full, can't bring myself to watch the other 2 as it'll only get worse!

I really want to watch the mist but it’s ending was spoiled for me and I think it’s one of those movies where the shock twists are necessary tbh

Posted by: No Sleeep 4th February 2018, 03:33 PM

Sinister. I saw it 5 years ago and that scene with the car that's on the tapes and the really creepy music has stuck with me

Posted by: Mack. 4th February 2018, 05:44 PM

Hostel the original yes that was not nice to watch.

Posted by: will-i-ever 6th February 2018, 06:53 PM

I watched Resident Evil as a child and it disturbed me to the point that I barely watch horror movies ever since. Maybe one in two years but no more

Posted by: DalekTurret32 6th February 2018, 11:31 PM

Insidious.

I agree, but we all have to start somewhere. The Eyes Of Laura Mars and Alien freaked me out when I was young though

The Vessel (2012), was awful and disturbing at the same time.
