1 Calvin Harris & Rihanna - This Is What You Came For 5 Up

"This Is What You Came For" makes a sudden jump from number 6 to number 1 and becomes Calvin Harris's latest chart-topper. The previous one was "How Deep Is Your Love" last year... And anything I say about Rihanna won't be enough! She has already reached the top in 2016 with "Work" and now I'm completely certain that she's the artist with the most number ones in the history of MTV Europe's European chart!
However, I think the most important thing in this edition of the chart was that MTV Europe played "Duele El Corazon" by Enrique Iglesias! It's amazing to see a song in Spanish broadcast on MTV Europe... In fact, in 2015 Enrique's "El Perdon" did appear in the chart (as evidenced by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20"), MTV Europe just skipped it the whole time! On the other hand, "Bailando" didn't chart in 2014 - how that happened remains a mystery to me...

28
27
26
25 Anne-Marie - Alarm
24 Gnash & Olivia O'Brien - I Hate U, I Love U 1 Down

22

20 Christine & The Queens - Tilted 6 Up
19 Ariana Grande - Into You Stay =>
18 Clean Bandit - Tears 8 Down
17 MØ - Final Song 1 Down
16
15 Kent Jones - Don't Mind 3 Down
14 Adele - Send My Love 4 Up
13 Enrique Iglesias - Duele El Corazon 2 Down
12 Sia - Cheap Thrills 2 Up
11
10
9 Bastille - Good Grief 4 Up
8 Calvin Harris & Rihanna - This Is What You Came For 7 Down
7 Justin Timberlake - Can't Stop The Feeling!
6 The Chainsmokers & Daya - Don't Let Me Down 3 Down
5 Shawn Mendes - Treat You Better 1 Up
4 Jonas Blue - Perfect Strangers Stay =>
3 Calum Scott - Dancing On My Own 17 Up
2
1 Kungs & Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl

There are a couple of peculiar reverse movements in this edition of the chart. After making a 6-1 jump to the top, now "This Is What You Came For" by Calvin Harris and Rihanna falls 1-8... Even more strikingly, after "Dancing On My Own" by Calum Scott made a 16-place fall from number 4 to number 20, now it overcompensates, making a 17-place climb from number 20 to number 3!!!
Otherwise, it's great to see Christine and The Queens in MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" - although this is not the French version of the song "Christine" but the English version "Tilted", it still contains French lyrics!

1 DJ Snake & Justin Bieber - Let Me Love You

It's really remarkable that MTV Europe played "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber! This shows that they're willing to play a song that has reached number 1, even if it doesn't have an official video (yet). So what did MTV Europe actually play? It was some mix of Justin Bieber videos (mostly from "I'll Show You", I think)... and it was certainly something unofficial!

1 DJ Snake & Justin Bieber - Let Me Love You Stay =>

I guess I should have been ALARMed by the existence of two ALARMing songs in this edition of the chart - "False Alarm" by Matoma and "Alarm" by Anne-Marie... It was an omen that something strange would happen again!
MTV Europe played "Side To Side" by Ariana Grande and showed it as number 16; THEN they played "Can't Stop The Feeling!" by Justin Timberlake and showed it as number 14; and AFTER THAT they played "Human" by Rag'n'Bone Man and showed it as number 15! Judging by the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20", what matters is the position shown, not the order in which MTV Europe played the songs...

1 James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go

This must be the craziest edition of the chart (at least this "new" version which has been broadcast on MTV Europe since January 2014)! It's really a yo-yo - ENORMOUS climbs and falls... including probably the biggest fall from number 2 ever (27 places down to number 29) and probably the biggest fall from number 1 ever (26 places down to number 27)!...

5 Niall Horan - This Town
4
3 James Arthur - Say You Won't Let Go 2 Down
2 The Chainsmokers & Halsey - Closer 27 Up
1 The Weeknd & Daft Punk - Starboy

Just like I expected, a "reverse yo-yo" has happened! This edition's big climbers are the previous edition's big fallers and vice versa! The most drastic example is the movement of "Closer" by The Chainsmokers and Halsey during the last 3 editions of the chart: 2-29-2!!!
It's nice that MTV Europe have finally started playing "Cold Water" by Major Lazer, Justin Bieber and MØ! They had been skipping it week after week while it was near the top of the chart... Of course, in the beginning the reason for this was that the song didn't have a video yet - but the video was released a month ago...
And we have a new number 1! "Starboy" becomes The Weekend's third chart-topper after "Can't Feel My Face" and "The Hills". The situation with Daft Punk is more complicated. The only song of theirs that reached the top of MTV Europe's European chart previously was "Around The World" in 1997. I think it's very likely that "Get Lucky" would have become number 1 in the chart... if it had existed at the time! Alas, no European chart was broadcast on MTV Europe during 2013...

2 Clean Bandit, Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - Rockabye 1 Down
1 Rae Sremmurd - Black Beatles 3 Up

"Black Beatles" by Rae Sremmurd becomes the new number 1. The last time the original Beatles appeared in MTV Europe's European chart was at the beginning of 1996 (20 years ago!), when they reached number 3 with "Free As A Bird".
Of course, one of the Beatles - Paul McCartney - scored a chart-topper last year, technically as a "solo" artist and in reality - alongside Rihanna and Kanye West with "FourFiveSeconds"!
And since I mentioned 1996... Mark Morrison reached number 3 then with "Return Of The Mack"... and now, 20 years later, reappears in the chart with a new version of that song - "The Mack", a collaboration with Nevada and Fetty Wap.
