Not confident in this one at all and I'm 100% certain you'll overtake me in the leaderboard! ohmy.gif

Excited though!

1. Name a movie that is in the top 10 for 2016 grosses worldwide.

I was actually shocked at only 5 Hollywood movies passing the $200M mark worldwide, I thought there would be quite a few more! This led the way for international and China hits The Monkey King 2, Ip Man 3, Monster Hunt and The Mermaid to all enter the top 10! The first two received no answers, I get a pointless for Monster Hunt and Jonjo and Josh share a point for The Mermaid. Back to the mainstream movies, London Has Fallen is the only one not answered while surprise hit The Jungle Book gives Jack and Michael one point. Many of the American blockbusters pick up one point with Deadpool, Kung Fu Panda 3 and Batman Vs Superman while Disney’s animated hit, and the biggest movie worldwide of the year, Zootopia picks up 2 points.
One wrong answer here as the question specifies 2016 and Star Wars was 2015 so unlucky Harry, Mack and Mdh.

POINTLESS: 0: Monster Hunt- Ultraviolence1989
1: Deadpool- Garyy, Lotti
1: The Mermaid- Jonjo, Josh
1: The Jungle Book- Jack, Michael
1: Kung Fu Panda 3- Regina, SamJudd
1: Batman Vs Superman: Dawn Of Justice- Fgiboy2511, Richie
2: Zootopia- Chez Wombat, Jahq, Jimmy Jam

17: Star Wars: The Force Awakens- HarryEzra, Mack, Mdh

Posted by: Jonjo 1st May 2016, 06:25 PM

Really wanna see that 'The Mermaid'! I have a feeling it'll be atrocious, but there's gotta be a reason as to why it's such a massive hit in China, right? laugh.gif

2. Name a winner of the Best Actress award at the Oscars which was won after Buzzjack was created

10 Possible answers, 8 of them answered! Shame nobody went for Reese Witherspoon who won two days before Buzzjack was created and would have got someone a wrong answer! Anyway Sandra, Meryl and Cate all gave excellent performances in their respective films and are all pointless answers! Marion, early popular choice Jennifer who probably gave my favourite performance here and Julianne’s win last year pick up their voters 1 point. Kate Winslet’s long deserved Oscar win finally came in 2009 for Revolutionary Road The Reader in a bit of a surprise! She picks up 2 points here (I wish Kate won for Revolutionary Road, she was perfect in that!). And the top answer goes to Natalie Portman’s career defining performance in the excellent, haunting and terrifying Black Swan which I finally got round to watching last week! Natalie is terrific in it and gives a fantastic performance, and picks up 3 points here! 2 non answered winners here, the newest (2016) and oldest (2007) winners eligible here!

POINTLESS: 0: Sandra Bullock- The Blind Side- HarryEzra
0: Meryl Streep- The Iron Lady- Mdh
0: Cate Blanchett- Blue Jasmine- Jahq

1: Marion Cotillard- La Vie En Rose- Jonjo, SamJudd
1: Julianne Moore- Still Alice- Fgiboy2511, Richie
2: Jennifer Lawrence- Silver Linings Playbook- Jack, Jimmy Jam, Michael
2: Kate Winslet- The Reader- Lotti, Mack, Regina
3: Natalie Portman- Black Swan- Chez Wombat, Garyy, Josh, Ultraviolence1989

No Wrong Answers!

Posted by: Jonjo 1st May 2016, 06:34 PM

I knew I shoulda gone with Brie! But I thought she'd might've got more than 3 points! FFS. laugh.gif

Doing decently so far I guess though!

3. Name a movie that peaked at #3 in the box office charts in either the UK or America in 2016

I love following the Box Office and we have seen quite a few films peak at #3 this year, with all the answers scoring pointlesses or only one point! Ranging from Christian American hits Risen and Miracles From Heaven to sequels My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 and Craplander 2, many films have hit the #3 spot! Michael also gets a #3 with Keanu which charted today! However we also have quite a few wrong answers here! The Boss peaked at #1 in America, just beating Batman on opening weekend. Zootropolis peaked at #1 in America and I think #2 in the UK (would’ve been #1 had Huntsman not had previews)- though Richie attempted this without using google, Barbershop: The Next Cut peaked at #2 in America and hasn’t been released in the UK yet and finally Dirty Grandpa peaked on either side of #3- #2 in UK and #4 in America!

EDIT: And Eye In The Sky climbed to #2 last week Jahq says so that's now wrong!

POINTLESS: 0: Creed- Jahq
0: Keanu- Michael
0: Risen- Ultraviolence1989
0: Miracles From Heaven- Jonjo
0: Bastille Day- Mack

1: Zoolander 2- Chez Wombat, Josh

4. Name a category that has been discontinued at the Oscars.

The Oscars is the most prestigious movie awards ceremony though a few categories have been discontinued throughout the years! This is the question with the most pointless answers and only 3 answers pick up points! Best Director for Comedy (I wish that still existed), Best Short Film- Colour and the most popular answer of Best Dance Direction! Best animated movie still exists and hasn’t been discontinued while 3 categories received no answers! And yeah Best Porn Flick never existed laugh.gif

POINTLESS: 0: Best Assistant Director- Josh
0: Best Engineering Effects- Mdh
0: Best Original Musical or Comedy Score- Richie
0: Best Original Story- Mack
0: Best Short Film- Live Action 2 Reels- Jonjo

5. Name a movie released in 2016 that has an under 20% score on RT.

This was meant to say wide release oops! So Lotti gets a nice pointless and Jimmy Jam and Sam Judd share a point for Cabin Fever. Quite a few movies not answered, from box office flops Fifty Shades Of Black, Gods Of Egypt and Norm Of The North to flop sequels Allegiant and Huntsman 2. Quite a lot of films have been critically savaged this year with latest Nicholas Sparks adaptation The Choice and horror movie The Forest being the most popular answers. Bad Neighbours 2 currently has no reviews due to not being released yet!

(Plug time xx)
Buzzjack are hosting their own version of Rotten Tomatoes where you can score any film you have seen from 2016, if you have seen even one film, please still give it a score! We are also currently revealing the results so far on the 2nd link!

Ugh another one where I thought the answer that woulda got me points ends up being a pointless! pirate.gif

I can't believe '5th Wave' has below 20% though! sad.gif I really enjoyed it.

6. Name a film that made the top 20 in Empire’s ‘Top 500 Greatest Movies Of All Time’ 2015 edition.

Empire update their great 500 greatest movies of all-time list each year and it always a really interesting read! With 20 answers and 16 participants, there was obviously one of the three easy chances to get a pointless. Classics such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones weren’t answered by anyone while pointless answers ranged from Dark Knight to Shawshank. The films picking up points are Apocalypse Now, Casablanca, Fight Club and of course The Godfather. The Seven Samurai wasn’t in the top 20 so therefore is a wrong answer! And Mean Girls isn't unfortunately sad.gif

POINTLESS: 0: 2001: A Space Odyssey- Fgiboy2511
0: Jaws- Jack
0: Pulp Fiction- Jimmy Jam
0: Singin In The Rain- Chez Wombat
0: The Apartment- Garyy

7. Name a movie that will receive a WIDE release in the UK in June 2016.

So many non-answers here as we all hover around 3 movies! (Shocked nobody said Independence Day!). The Nice Guys and The Secret Life Of Pets score Jonjo and Richie a pointless answer each! Going straight up to 2 points as my most anticipated movie ‘Me Before You’ sees three of us answer the drama while Melissa McCarthy’s upcoming comedy The Boss also picks up two points. The most popular answer is horror sequel The Conjuring 2 with four of you going for it! However we have four wrong answers here! Angry Birds is out in May (12 days!), and all of Finding Dory/Free State Of Jones/Now You See Me 2 are out in June in America I think but they come out 29th July/9th September/8th July in the UK so are wrong answers! And yeah then we have Michael's answer...!

POINTLESS: 0: The Nice Guys- Jonjo

8. Name a Pixar feature film released in 2016 or before.

Who doesn’t love Pixar? Of course I had to have a Pixar question in here somewhere heart.gif And some answers were surprisingly not said by anyone! Neither of the Finding Nemo movies, Buzzjack fave Inside Out or Toy Story were answered ohmy.gif And the Toy Story sequels both scored pointless answers along with many of the other movies! The heartbreakingly underrated The Good Dinosaur and one of my favourites WALL.E both score one point and the most hated Pixar film by literally everyone, Cars 2 scores three points! And Wreck It Ralph was Disney!

POINTLESS: 0: A Bug’s Life- Jonjo

9. Name one of the main cast of Hail, Caesar.

Hail, Caesar was the Coen Brothers latest movie and was released earlier this year! I absolutely adored the movie and the main cast was one of the highlights! Three pointless answers, Jonah Hill who appeared for a little bit, lead Josh Brolin and probably future Han-Solo Alden Ehrenreich score Garyy, Josh and me a pointless here! Frances McDormand and George Clooney pick up a point a piece while adored Scarlett Johansson picks up 2 points! And the most popular answer is Ralph Fiennes who scores a quite big 4 points! Alison Pill was in Hail, Caesar but wasn’t featured in the main cast unfortunately  I don’t know whether to give Harry the full deduction or half a deduction for this one, what do you think?

POINTLESS: 0: Alden Ehrenreich- Ultraviolence1989

10. Name a feature film that has been released this decade which stars one of Brie Larson, Miles Teller or Shailene Woodley.

Brie Larson, Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are 3 of my favourite actors and actresses around at the moment and the inspiration for this question is the incredible movie ‘The Spectacular Now’ which stars all three of them! That is the highest scoring answer here along with Brie’s Oscar winning turn in Room and remake Footloose. Many pointless answers here as this is one of two questions with a load of possible options! From comedy 21 Jump Street to a drama with an incredible Nicole Kidman performance (Rabbit Hole) to YA Insurgent starring both Miles & Shailene to the beautiful The Fault In Our Stars and also hilarious comedy Trainwreck and finally premiering on Sky Movies soon Two Night Stand are my highlgihts from the answers answered heart.gif

11. Name a sequel that has been released and received a wide release in 2016 so far.

We all know how Hollywood adores sequels so quite a few sequels have been released in 2016. Batman and Cloverfield and Alvin were all avoided! Pointless answers for Crapallegiant, CrapWinter’sWar, Civil War, Christian movie God’s Not Dead 2 and animated Kung Fu Panda 3. More crap sequels as London Has Fallen and Zoolander 2 pick up a point each along with My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2! Which somehow means the top answer is Ride Along 2 with 3 points, I went for it as I completely forgot it existed until I wrote this question! Another wrong answer as Bad Neighbours 2 hurts Richie again as it hasn’t been released yet!

POINTLESS: 0: Allegiant- Jimmy Jam

12. Name a movie sequel which grossed over 50% less than the previous movie in the franchise at the box office worldwide.

Easily the toughest question, this was basically get a pointless or be wrong! So let’s look at some of the pointless answers first. Basic Instinct 2 and Blair Witch 2 both plummeted critically and at the box office, Home Alone 3 also struggled while Hot Tub Time Machine 2 was a clear example of a sequel nobody wanted. People were tired of the Police Academy franchise by Police Academy 7 and Scary Movie V long arrival after IV saw a big fall. And that thing also gets mentioned. Grease 2 with Michelle Pfiefer and Speed 2 were the only two to score a point, Grease 2 completely fell flat on its face from Grease’s gross while Speed 2 earned just over 50% less than Speed at the box office.
Now onto the 5 wrong answers, let’s start from furthest to closest! Michael mentions Legally Blonde which: A- wasn’t a sequel and B- the 2nd one only fell 17M worldwide from the first one! Batman Vs Superman is at 865M compared to either of The Dark Knight Rises 1.1B or Man Of Steel’s 800M or something total’s so is nowhere near 50% less! Mission Impossible 3 earned less than the 2nd one but not 50% less, MI2 earned something between 500M-600M and MI3 earned between 300-400M (I looked it up but don’t remember the numbers!). Scream 4 grossed 97M worldwide, which while a big drop from Scream 3, was not 50% as that grossed 161M worldwide. And finally Jack is really unlucky with Allegiant which has grossed literally just over 50% of Insurgent’s gross, 152M to 297M (I took the figures from when you sent the answer, Allegiant is just shy of 160M now!)

POINTLESS: 0: Basic Instinct 2- Mack
0: Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2- Chez Wombat
0: Caddyshack 2- Richie
0: Home Alone 3- Fgiboy2511
0: Hot Tub Time Machine 2- Jahq
0: Police Academy 7- SamJudd
0: Scary Movie 5- Ultraviolence1989

Oh FFS! There goes that chance of winning. Bottom half for me! (I also think I was looking at something completely different for it's gross as I don't remember seeing $97m laugh.gif)

I now need to go so we will be back at 10:30PM tonight to complete the final couple of questions and reveal the results! Please come back then and I’m sure we’ll be done before 11:00PM so it won’t be too late! (Also please post if you can make it then as want to know if at least a few people will be there!)

Boo I need to get all Pointlesses now to win!

Also I forgot my usual promo aspect because I'm a #PromoWhore!
In the meantime we have lots of events going on around the movies forum such as Ultimate Song Semi 5 and 6, Rotten Tomatoes, the next round of Family Fortunes and many more so please participate in those!! wub.gif

Let's continue cheer.gif

13. Name a character from Zootopia/Zootropolis.

The adorable Zootopia warmed itself into our movie universe last month is an incredible film. The other super easy question to get a pointless, the amount of alternative answers here are massive! Well it is many pointless answers for most here! But Chief Bogo, Doug and Lionheart both pick up one point each while of the lead protaginists, Nick scores 0 points but the adorable Judy Hopps is the highest scoring character here! I couldn’t find a character called Angry Mouse so I’m not sure if it is right or wrong, but if you can provide me a link to this character Jimmy then I’ll accept it!

POINTLESS: 0: Dawn Bellwether- Garyy
0: Flash- Jonjo
0: Gazelle- Michael
0: Mr Big- Jahq
0: Mrs Otterton- Jack
0: Priscilla- Chez Wombat
0: Yax- HarryEzra

1: Doug- Fgiboy2511, SamJudd

Ooft. The best character giving me a pointless *.*

14. Name a song that is on the Frozen soundtrack (not a song from the score).

How could we have a question without FROZEN. The adorable animation slayed us all in 2013 and every year since then with its wonderfulness plot, characters and of course songs! Surprisingly Snowman received no answers and the original of For The First Time In Forever is a pointless! Love Is An Open Door and of course Idina’s wonderful Let It Go are high scoring answers here! I specifically said no score songs so the beautiful Vuelie is wrong (my favourite song from the score) and Cold As Ice isn’t on the soundtrack!

Let It Go is also competing in Ultimate Movie Song: Semi 6 so vote for it there! (And vote in Semi 5 as well!) (and check out the Semi 3 results to see how the Frozen songs did!)

15. Name an animated movie being released in the UK in 2016.

I love my animated movies of course so this question was about the ones being released this year! Already released Kung Fu Panda 3/Zootopia/Norm Of The North all pick up no points along with the upcoming Laika/Disney/DreamWorks movies! Angry Birds and Robinson Crusoe (out this week!) are both pointless along with Ice Age 5 and Secret Life Of Pets! Adult comedy animation Sausage Party and the cute looking Storks pick up one point while Ratchet & Clank picks up two points, the film has just horrifically flopped in America this weekend! And finally the highest scoring answer is of course the highly anticipated Finding Dory with four people going for it! I couldn’t find any release date for Sly Cooper or any confirmation of a UK release so therefore it is a wrong answer.

POINTLESS: 0: Angry Birds- HarryEzra
0: Ice Age 5- Fgiboy2511
0: Robinson Crusoe- Ultraviolence1989
0: The Secret Life Of Pets- Richie

1: Sausage Party- Jahq, Josh
1: Storks- Chez Wombat, Garyy
2: Ratchet & Clank- Jack, Jonjo, Lotti
3: Finding Dory- Jimmy Jam, Mack, Mdh, Regina

17: Final Fantasy 15 Animated Movie Tie-In- Michael
17: Sly Cooper- SamJudd

As suspected, I did pretty rubbish! Great round though and amazing work UV!!! ESPECIALLY trying to manage two sets of results at one time. Incredible! The presentation on both was stunning too!

Posted by: princess_lotti 1st May 2016, 09:55 PM

yes agreed with Jonjo! wub.gif looking forward to seeing the leaderboard, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the evening of results cheer.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st May 2016, 09:56 PM

Results coming here now as well, calculated them all and we have our winners!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st May 2016, 09:58 PM

17. Michael- 173
16. Richie- 90
15. Jack- 70
14. Jimmy Jam- 66

After doing really well on the first three questions, Michael got wrong after wrong answer and comes last by a landslide!

Richie gave this game a go without using google, a great feat but the repetition of Bad Neighbours 2 killed his chances

Jack also did well and would have been higher had other Jahq not pointed out Eye In The Sky had reached a new peak of #2

And Jimmy Jam has a successful first round in his first movie game!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st May 2016, 10:03 PM

13. HarryEzra- 65.5
12. Regina- 55
11. SamJudd- 50

Next up in 13th is Harry who jumped a few places after getting one of his incorrect answers good, another solid round from him! Regina also does well and SamJudd is just outside the top 10 after two big slip-ups on the last two questions!

Top 10:
Chez Wombat
Fgiboy2511
Garry
Jahq
Jonjo
Josh
Lotti
Mack
Mdh
Ultraviolence1989

Posted by: princess_lotti 1st May 2016, 10:05 PM

slaying that top 10 *.* expect I'll be out soon though because of that wrong answer!! drama.gif

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st May 2016, 10:07 PM

10. Mdh- 48
9. Lotti- 36

Starting the top 10 is another member who's first movie game this is, Mdh who has a fantastic date!
And just ahead of him is Lotti who has scored two top 10 finishes tonight, how far can this propel her up the leaderboard?

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 1st May 2016, 10:13 PM

6. Garry- 32
6. Jonjo- 32
6. Mack- 32

And we have a three way tie for 6th, which can't even be split because you all scored 6 pointless answers! Congrats to Garry- also his first movies game-, regular player Jonjo and sports mod Mack who all put in a great showing but slipped up on one question!

4. Josh- 20
4. Fgiboy2511- 20
3. Chez Wombat- 19

Starting our top 5 is a joint 4th due to the same number of pointless between regular player Josh and Fgiboy2511 playing his first game in ages, both did great and scored 20 points! And after winning the last game, Chez retains a top 3 position with a terrific 19 points!

Jahq v Me. Battle of the movie mods! Can I FINALLY win my first pointless here!

Posted by: Garyy 1st May 2016, 10:23 PM

Not gonna complain with joint 6th, messed up badly a couple of times!

Posted by: princess_lotti 1st May 2016, 10:25 PM

Predict and all will be revealed!

1. Jahq- 12

Oh of course I wouldn't finally get a win in my own game laugh.gif Still without a win and this is like the 3rd or 4th time I think I've come 2nd! And losing to my fellow movie mod as well drama.gif
Well done Jahq cheer.gif Finishing last in Emoji's but first here and a terrific round by Jahq who got only 12 points to win pretty easily!

Was doing pretty well at first, but tanked on those 2 questions, but oh well great game anyway I had a blast on this as always.

Posted by: J▲hq 2nd May 2016, 04:51 AM

Yasss! My first Frozen soundtrack thought was "Do You Want To Build a Snowman" so would be pointless either way on that biggrin.gif

Thanks for hosting UV, not that I'm bias but I reckon it was a great round tongue.gif

Posted by: mdh 2nd May 2016, 05:33 AM

ahhh happy to get a top ten even if it was just by the skin of my teeth ~ either way it completely exceeded my expectations of where I'd come.

thanks for hosting this UV heart.gif

Posted by: richie 2nd May 2016, 09:10 AM

Managed a load of pointless answers off the top of my head, so pleased I wasn't last. If Bad Neighbours 2 had actually come out by now then I'd have done better!

I'm going to keep on not using Google, it's far more fun. No point in just looking these up.

Posted by: Jimmy Jam 2nd May 2016, 03:59 PM

Thank you for hosting this UV, really great set of questions! Dirty Grandpa was a complete guess, slay at it almost being right laugh.gif

The angry mouse, idk it might just be a voice thing, idk here da link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2948356/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast the Melissa Goodwin Sheppard one, but it's probably wrong, I just went for it laugh.gif

Congrats Jack on that great low score!! cheer.gif
