Hiipe jump.gif great that we did get a full house + 1 extra guest voter!

Hope I can avoid the bottom 3 this time, my song got a better reception than I expected on SyncTube but still not having particularly high expectations. Going to put on the playlist in the background during the results to remind myself of all the songs ~

Not sure who I'd predict to win. Maybe Orbital?

+4 The Future Sound Of London – Papua New Guinea
+3 The Chemical Brothers – The Private Psychedelic Reel

I very spectacular top two I must add, I hope the people who sent these are voting because they have true electronic taste! music.gif

SCOREBOARD

1 12 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1
2 10 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L.
3 8 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie
4 7 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry)
5 6 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself
6 5 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)
7 4 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea
8 3 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel
9 2 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)
10 1 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf

11 0 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary)
12 0 Alpha - Back
13 0 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes
14 0 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10
15 0 Isao Tomita - Mars
16 0 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt
17 0 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv
18 0 Art Fact - Rain In The South

Wardy was not only first in the running order but also our very first voter! He was behind LFO, who join other electronic icons such as Mr Blobby and Doop, to have an eponymous song title. This reached #12 in the U.K. chart back in 1990. In music publications LFO have been named as pioneers in the world of bleep techno music.

These votes are very legend heavy, as well-respected electronic names Jean-Michel Jarre, Orbital and Morcheeba take our first podium spots of the night.

Ooh the early reveal! Thank you Jade, I had to reconfirm back to this after my other entry was vetoed, but this felt much more suited to the theme, so no hard feelings.

Thank you to all for such great music sent to this contest!

William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf

QUOTE
12; POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)
10; Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1
08; Isao Tomita – Mars
07; The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel
06; Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)
05; Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L.
04; DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt
03; Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10
02; Art Fact - Rain In The South
01; Flowchart - Another Word Explodes

...And all the others could've got points too tbh, but particular apologies to The Future Sound of London & LFO </3

SCOREBOARD

1 22 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1
2 17 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)
3 15 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L.
4 10 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel
5 8 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie
6 8 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)
7 8 Isao Tomita - Mars
8 7 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry)
9 6 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself
10 4 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea

11 4 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt
12 3 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10
13 2 Art Fact - Rain In The South
14 1 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat)
15 1 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes
16 0 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary)
17 0 Alpha - Back
18 0 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv

These results are in order of receipt and our first two voters were those behind the opening and closing entries! 'Water from a Vine Leaf' was the only song in the contest to be double confirmed. William Orbit's highest peaking credited singles are P!nk collab 'Feel Good Time' (#3) plus 'Barber's Adagio For Strings' (#4), an electronic flip on a classical beauty. He is also well-known for providing ambient beats for some of the best work by the likes of Madonna and All Saints. 'Water From A Vine Leaf' is a less well known moment from his catalogue, charting at #59 back in 1993. The vocals are provided by Beth Orton, who also appears on the same Chemical Brothers album as fellow entry here 'The Private Psychedelic Reel'.

Chez's votes strengthen Jean-Michel Jarre's hold at the top and keep Orbital on the podium too. The gold medal for POiSON GiRL FRiEND allows her to race up to second place now.

Think the LFO song sounded a little familiar to me but not sure where I had heard it before if anywhere, nonetheless a banger so a solid start to both the running order and the reveals, nice one Wardy! And a good one from William Orbit that I hadn't heard before too from Chez ~

Ooh nice at POiSON GiRL FRiEND off to a good start, I wanted to predict that to do well too but not quite sure, was a great inspired pick anyway.

(and now putting the playlist on so jamming to LFO as we speak x)

Flowchart - Another Word Explodes

QUOTE

Aloha, thanks Jade for another high quality edition of this contest, here are my votes ~

12 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel
10 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L.
8 Vapourspace - Gravitational Arch Of 10

7 DJ Shadow - Building Steam With A Grain Of Salt
6 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea
5 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - Hardly Ever Smile (Without You)
4 William Orbit - Water From A Vine Leaf
3 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)
2 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix)
1 Art Fact - Rain In The South

The Sabres Of Paradise just missing out, really wanted to squeeze that in too but alas.

The Chemical Brothers is a pretty predictable 12 from me but I have to atone for somehow only giving it 3 points in the BJSC spinoff it appeared in before drama.gif (since that I have experienced the song live and it is glorious). Lots of really good stuff here though, Orbital and DJ Shadow delivering fantastic songs that I hadn't heard before (actually the DJ Shadow song was a little familiar I think but not sure where from x) while Vapourspace and POiSON GiRL FRiEND were brilliant finds from obscure artists (and ofc the former not even being on Spotify so I'll need to find a local file for it for my Spotify playlists).

Hopefully Flowchart managed to hypnotise enough of you for it to do at least a little better than our debut entry!

SCOREBOARD

1 25 Orbital - P.E.T.R.O.L.
2 22 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1
3 22 POiSON GiRL FRiEND - HARDLY EVER SMILE (without you)
4 22 The Chemical Brothers - The Private Psychedelic Reel
5 11 Slacker - Your Face (Schizoid)
6 11 DJ Shadow - Building Steam with a Grain of Salt
7 11 Vapour Space - Gravitational Arch of 10
8 10 The Future Sound Of London - Papua New Guinea
9 8 Morcheeba - Trigger Hippie
10 8 Isao Tomita - Mars

11 7 The Sabres Of Paradise - Smokebelch II (Entry)
12 6 Electribe 101 - Talking With Myself
13 5 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat)
14 3 Art Fact - Rain In The South
15 2 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary)
16 1 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer)
17 0 Alpha - Back
18 0 Boards of Canada - Roygbiv

Bré is behind the haunting, fairly obscure entry by Flowchart, who originate from Philadelphia. 'Another Word Explodes' is taken from their sophomore album Cumulus Mood Twang, which was better received than their debut from critics. They went through a line-up change by this point, with new addition Erin Anderson being welcomed into the fold by founding member Sean O'Neal - the two even dated for a period.

These votes provide us a new winner in Orbital! It looks like 'P.E.T.R.O.L.' may have been a smart replacement for the vetoed 'The Box' so far. There is then a three way tie for both 2nd and 5th which looks satisfying on the scoreboard laugh.gif

I can reveal that I played the song as a preview to another listenthrough I hosted a week or two before this contest started, and you were in the SyncTube room when it was played (though I don’t think I had decided that it was my chosen entry at that time).

Ooh I kind of forgot I was so early in the voting order, makes a change from me usually being near the end in recent contests due to sitting on sending my votes for ages kink.gif

Another pretty lengthy instrumental entry from me (following both my entry to the first edition of this and my current BJSC entry!) that I wasn't sure would necessarily be many people's cup of tea but I find this one progresses really nicely and has quite a hypnotic quality to it. Yay for already having one point at least, thanks Chez cool.gif

Oh that might just be it then! (although I do sometimes have SyncTube muted ahead of the start of listenthroughs)

3 22 Jean-Michel Jarre - Ethnicolor 1

14 7 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat)
15 7 LFO - LFO (Leeds Warehouse Mix) (awardinary)
16 3 Art Fact - Rain In The South
17 1 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer)
18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester)

Jester is the first 20th Century Retro mod to be unveiled! His choice was the downtempo 'Back' by Alpha. This was taken from the 1997 album Come From Heaven, which was released on Massive Attack's label, so they were in very good company indeed. The introduction of 'Back' incorporates the Sylvia Plath poem 'The Ghost's Leavetaking' and elsewhere the instrumental samples 'A House Is Not A Home' by Ronnie Carroll. That song was originally written by the late, great Burt Bacharach alongside Hal David, so an unintentional tribute in a roundabout kind of way.

This 12 to Boards of Canada lifts 'Roygbiv' off 0 in style but unfortunately leaves Jester's own entry as the last one to remain on nil points. Elsewhere, The Chemical Brothers are freed from that three-way 22 pointer tie and advance to 2nd in the process. The Sabres Of Paradise are now back in the top 10 after slipping out in the previous vote. DJ Shadow also rises into the top 5.

16 7 William Orbit - Water from a Vine Leaf (Chez Wombat)
17 2 Flowchart - Another Word Explodes (Brer)
18 0 Alpha - Back (Jester)

AH Gold is behind one of the entries that clocked in at over 10 minutes! The Sabres Of Paradise were a trio consisting of Andrew Weatherall, Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns. Weatherall may be familiar to some due to his involvement on the classic Primal Scream album Screamadelica. Kooner also worked with the band, co-producing their version of 'Some Velvet Morning' (originally by Nancy Sinatra & Lee Hazlewood) which also featured Kate Moss. 'Smokebelch II (Entry)' is taken from the group's debut album Sabresonic, released in 1993.

We have a new leader! Top marks to The Future Sound Of London allows them to pip The Chemical Brothers to the post. AH Gold knocks himself out of the top 10 while LFO and Electribe 101 rise in there, thanks to silver and bronze medals respectively.
