I appreciate Darius is very busy, but he rarely communicates anything via this forum. A few updates surley not beyond him?! Thanks Megham & Baytree for your input & keeping me up to date. I may yet manage the show & even the gig, if i had details of where its taking place? (not even sure this will be posted, as i'm using an older phone. Will need to upgrade to a smart phone, when i get around to it. Also, i don't have a computer, through choice/age? Still... I rely on u both to keep me up to date, thanks. I saw a photograph of darius & sheridan on this morning'-it was Rylan, showing the 2 presenters, how sheridan 'broke down', on opening night-but given that u couldn't miss Darius, in the shot & given how well they knew DARIUS, I FOUND it very 'strange, that they didn't even remark, that he was alongside her!, or mabey not so strange...have noticed since p.t.o.s ended, he's never been mentioned again. I still wonder if he did something awful to that 'twerp', who has investements in a no. Of programmes. Just kidding, i think. Don't leave it so long to post info please, as i rely on it. Thanks

eden - the gig is on 2nd July and will take place quite near to the Savoy Theatre. It'll be an hour acoustic session and then listening to new tracks and talking to Darius for an hour or so. Darius and Sheridan have had great review for 'Funny Girl' - in fact the whole Funny Girl team are great. There's hardly ever any one on here but I still post big news. Other forums tend to get more info as they are more active.

Posted by: Baytree 28th April 2016, 03:33 AM

My screen shows latest Darius news on Buzzjack as... Darius is to star in new musical From Here to Eternity! That was 2013.

I'll try to gather together the links for Funny Girl reviews asap.

Have to say that I'm disappointed the Menier ones aren't in a pinned thread yet.

Posted by: SpamFritter 28th April 2016, 03:56 PM

I've added some new news articles. Also put another picture in the gallery.
Please feel free to put up the reviews. Either Meg or I will pin them.
Thanks smile.gif

I always pop in here to see what's happening as well as using the other sites. Thanks for keeping it updated. Sue

Posted by: megham 28th April 2016, 10:38 PM

This site is just so quiet now. I always look in at least a couple of times a day but seldom see any proof of any one else around

Posted by: Baytree 28th April 2016, 11:45 PM

Funny Girl's curtain came down just a half hour or so in tonight. The audience waited another 40 minutes or so before they were told the show was cancelled due to technical problems. No further explanation.

Darius is apparently at the MADtrust cabaret just now.

I hope they can fix whatever's wrong for tomorrow. There's not a lot of technical stuff in FG. I'd think it would be hard to do the show if the travelators malfunctioned though.

Posted by: megham 29th April 2016, 09:46 AM

Paul heard that it a problem with the lighting. No one was hurt and that was the bit that worried me. It's such a shame that the audience only saw 15 mins of the show and now have to rebook

Posted by: Baytree 29th April 2016, 10:26 AM

Very glad to hear everyone was fine.

Gutted for audience members from out of town, especially those making the trip to celebrate life's special occasions.

Posted by: Baytree 29th April 2016, 10:47 AM

Is it OK if I open a new thread for the full review links and use this one for comments etc about them?

Posted by: megham 29th April 2016, 01:29 PM

That would be great, thanks BT - there are a number of reviews on facebook - Darius Campbell Archive and News

Thanks BT. thought his performance was really good. It's a show where all the cast are excellent. The emotion shown was well produced

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 06:02 AM

I can't help smiling at the ones that say he's come a long way from Popstars and is a bona fide West End leading man and then proceed to add the Popstars clip!

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 06:15 AM

Absolutely disgusted by some of the papers today. They've printed huge padded articles accusing Sheridan Smith of being drunk on Thursday. Their source? A few speculative tweets when no-one knew what was happening!

One paper quotes a tweet saying she grabbed the b**L's of the Cornet Men - Hello! She pretends to.....it's part of the comedy routine and typical of the bawdy humour of vaudeville and Fanny Brice. I remember seeing it on Tuesday and it got a hearty laugh from the audience because of Sheridan's perfect accompanying expression. She has a wonderfully expressive face!

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 07:33 AM

Darius's reviews at the Savoy have been very good but we still must remember reviews are just one person's opinion of one performance.

Even the late Omar Sharif ....a huge star with plenty of plaudits to his name and the advantage of re-takes in a movie....could do nothing to please one critic as Nicky Arnstein.

http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/funny-girl-1968

Me, I thought he was absolutely charming and set the bar high for Nicky.

As a long standing fan of Darius, I'm probably biased but I think he makes a fine fist of the role. Some of the credit has to go to the revised book and the inclusion of Temporary Arrangement which let Darius reveal a little of Nicky's thinking in an era where gentlemen were very formal and definitely never showed any weakness or spoke of their financial affairs. In addition Nicky spends his life gambling. He is inscrutable.

The whole point of Nicky is that he IS so different to any other character in the show. They're all showbiz people or from the Brooklyn Jewish tight knit community. The awkward, naive, gawky Fanny tells him he's like a character in a book and she'd imagined him all around the world.

I think some people judge the character by modern standards or by the golden age of Hollywood when gentlemen were much more forthcoming.

The wedding picture is so perfect for that era. We've all got those stylised, stuffy, studio photos of our ancestors.

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 08:14 AM

That last line in the paragraph about Omar Sharif reminded me that Mark Shenton from The Stage in his review of the show he saw, with understudy, Natasha J Barnes, said that on a previous visit (personal), he'd only had eyes for Sheridan.

He said that when he was concentrating on Sheridan he didn't realise how good Darius was or even how handsome he is.

He repeated it again in an article this week saying those like Darius dimmed by Sheridan's star power got to shine.

It's a long way up from Sheridan to Darius but strangely the same from the real Fanny to Nick..... One foot two inches. The real Nicky was 6ft 6!

It shows that Darius is no longer thought of as celebrity casting when a critic like Mark Shenton ( in that review ) suggests a next leading role for him.

He said that if Darius hadn't been transferring to the Savoy, he'd make a great Gaylord Ravendal in Showboat.

Posted by: megham 30th April 2016, 09:23 AM

I go with the 'I wasn't there' She was great when I saw her and, if she had been drunk, I just feel it would have been dealt with before the show. The trouble is, things put into print tend to have people believe what was said. My mother thought everything shown on TV or in the newspaper was really true.

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 09:34 AM

And I also thought first night reviews which harped on about Sheridan's tweets when she was reeling from the news that her beloved father has cancer were the lowest of the low, even for Red Top papers.

Tall poppy syndrome again!

I like this bit in the last one.

But Michael Mayer's loving production ensures it is not merely a solo vehicle for Smith, but also a fully integrated show that has some great chorus numbers (expanded since the Menier), an outstanding Darius Campbell bringing texture and vocal resonance to the somewhat underwritten role of her husband Nicky, and a touching, terrific trio of Marilyn Cutts, Valda Avis and Gay Soper as Fanny's mother and neighbours.

Posted by: Baytree 30th April 2016, 02:53 PM

The role of Nicky is deliberately underwritten for two main reasons.

The producer of the show was Fanny Brice's son-in-law, Ray Stark, and her daughter, Frances, didn't want to wash her parents' dirty linen in public, so the writer stuck to pretty much what was in the public domain.

The second reason was that Nicky Arnstein was still alive and threatening legal action.

Loved the show (I got a day seat this time only 1 left - just expect to never know if the cast wear shoes or (sometimes) clothes on their bottom halves) The show was as full of life as ever. You (I) still wanted to laugh or cry through it. It is a very moving show. I hope the cd comes soon. I'd love them to do a dvd. Brilliant cast Funny Girl is so lucky having Sheridan and Natasha in it. I knew that Natasha would be good as she wouldn't have been given the understudy post if she hadn't been brilliant. Now she's brilliant and has been seen. Sheridan will never be forgotten either.

"What do happy people do?" - NICK and the girls.

Weird I don't remember that one at all. Does Darius sing or just speak in the scene in which it features?

Posted by: megham 17th May 2016, 09:48 PM

I only remember him singing in 4 tracks
I don't mind if they give him more as his voice is great.
This doesn't sound like the real cd listing - it sounds more about who was there and when it was recorded.

I Want To Be Seen With You Tonight & You Are Woman I Am Man - first act

I've just remembered that in one song he comes on at the end and sings a line from one of the previous songs. 'Beautiful reflection of my love's affection'

Posted by: Baytree 21st May 2016, 10:00 PM

I remember that.

Neat way to let the audience know Fanny's pregnant, before the scene with the pram.

Maybe, it is that scene. I can see Darius and Sheridan as he sings that, but for the life of me, I can't recall what went immediately before or after it.

Posted by: megham 22nd May 2016, 05:59 PM

The girls were rehearsing on stage and Fanny is talking then bumps into the singing girls. They end up on the floor and Darius walks in. I could be remembering it incorrectly though

Thanks to all for your remarks/info: if Darius doesn't know whether he is doing the tour, does this mean he is still waiting to be 'asked' & would be willing if so? Has the cast not been announced yet? Dissappointing news for me, as so difficult to arrange London. Please let me know when the tour cast is announced. Good that Megham showed that positive good review from british theatre. Darius of course, was 'born to be the 'lead' in whatever he does! By the way, what does it mean when one of you says. 'nice if we could see it in G.B.?! Good to hear the record is fine, but think i'd like to see show 1st, so please keep me updated abt tour cast etc. So good to hear all your comments/updates. Thanks.

Posted by: megham 10th August 2016, 01:11 PM

He has been asked and he isn't doing it. I'd like to know what his next steps are - I'd really like a new album. I'd like his next project to be somewhere we can see it - GB not just abroad

Posted by: polly 11th August 2016, 08:03 PM

The next thing is the film Darius co produced which will be released on his birthday so that's something to look forward to smile.gif

Posted by: megham 11th August 2016, 08:26 PM

Darius isn't actually involved in the action. Him co-producing it wont give us anything more visible that any other co-producer is. I'm looking forward to the next time he acts or sings more than that - although I know he likes being involved in this kind of thing, it doesn't much apeal to me as something that would make me watch it

Posted by: Baytree 12th August 2016, 01:04 PM

I admit that I'm disappointed that Darius isn't doing a few legs of the tour, enough for at least a geographical spread for his fans who can't travel to London.

At least we've got the CD and I'm still hopeful the show might be filmed before it closes in the West End.

Darius will have spent almost a year in what seems to be a close, exuberant and talented company, playing yet another iconic role which he couldn't refuse. He's played Nick opposite three leading ladies - Sheridan, Natasha and Claire Rickard. He's made his mark
There isn't much opportunity to develop Nick any more. It's such an underwritten role. If there was, maybe another year on tour would be well spent. On balance, the end of the Savoy run is probably the right time to pass the baton or in this case, the ruffled shirt, on.

Two things have always motivated Darius - new challenges and working with some of the best people in the business.

In addition, he's always been keen to learn the technical aspects as well as the creative ones, so I can understand the attraction of film production for him.

Posted by: Baytree 12th August 2016, 01:59 PM

Re Funny Girl London Cast recording, I think it showcases all of the cast and the show really well.

I still can''t get into Rat-a-tat -tat. The routine seemed interminable in the show. I skip that track every time.

I like how they've included some lines (and Joel's fabulous tap dancing)... the contrast between D's "It's my neck!" and the onstage "What Do Happy People Do?" highlights the gulf between Fanny's life on and off stage.

I like all of Sheridan's songs. Though I do wonder why The Music That Makes Me Dance is so quick.

Who Are You Now is my favourite track but I often catch myself humming or singing snatches of nearly all the songs from the show.

last week of 'Funny Girl' at the Savoy Theatre now. I hope they get a dvd out

Posted by: eden 4th October 2016, 09:53 PM

Ah yes...Last week Meg ham. I just couldn'the get down from Scotland to see it,as my daughter has been working long hrs and not had a window to accompany me and stay over weekend in London. However, she said "don't worry mum". "When he comes to Scotland, we can go to see him in Edinburgh &Glasgow "! But your news that he wasn' doing the tour, has now put paid to that! If you hear ,Meg ham of any other events,he will be singing at,preferably in Scotland, I would appreciate it if you would let me know,or do you think he will be 'off' after the show to do his producing stint, matey lasting a long time;in which case at my age, I might be lucky to ever see him in concert again.ha! Do wish his focus was on the singing, purely for selfish reasons of course. Apart from that,I honestly believe, that to be successful you must be totally focused on what you excellent at,but Darius has a different perspective &who knows, matey that will work for him and I wish him every success in all his many ventures. One thing'so for sure.He was born to be a star and with all that talent I hope heo entertain us fomany years to come.

Posted by: megham 5th October 2016, 08:28 PM

He is still talking about a new album but it'll have to fit in his role as producer. It's a shame you missed 'Funny Girl' it was very good.

Posted by: megham 7th October 2016, 08:42 AM

Just today and tomorrow and then Funny Girl is over for Darius. It's been great to see him on stage. I look forward to his next adventure

Posted by: eden 8th October 2016, 01:47 AM

Hi Megham, thanks for commiserations. Yes, am so dissappointed I couldn't get down to London to see DARIUS perform &lulled myself into a false s.o.so thinking he would be doing some of the tour and come up to Scotland. It's been nice though to get your updates and information which is really appreciate, and long may it continue. Would be great if Darius could bring us a new album, buthe since he is 'all over the place',I won't hold my breath. Hope he has a good experience producing.yet another string to his bow,and no doubt we will hear how it all goes. Wonder if it's here or in the states!

Thanks, megham.

I feel gutted for fans who won't get a chance to see Darius in Funny Girl. I really thought they'd have filmed it for a Dvd/Bluray for Christmas.

Does anyone know anything about Darius's planned projects? Will he have to be mainly in the USA?

I can't see Darius ever giving up live performances.
He has cemented his reputation as a West End leading man. I bet there will be another role which he won't be able to refuse

Right now, though, he's got his foot in the production door and it must be really challenging and exciting for him. I wish him all the very best.

The show CDs are great but it's never too late for the long awaited Darius album.

Chance to vote for 'Funny Girl' as best musical

Posted by: Baytree 11th October 2016, 07:13 PM

Unfortunately I can't remember what my BBC ID is . I don't know if the site will let me re-register. I'll try later on.

Posted by: eden 14th October 2016, 11:37 PM

I registered and voted. Wonder-is Darius still in this country?or has he gone back to America with Natasha. Anyone know? Reason I am saying this is that one of you mentioned a while back, something about him still to do an event here and am wondering whereabouts and when.would love to get a chance to see him perform.

Posted by: megham 15th October 2016, 09:49 PM

He damaged his back and was unable to go ahead. He even had to have time of the show. Hopefully, he'll recover fully nut it may take a while. You have to be careful with a couple of slipped discs.

Posted by: eden 17th October 2016, 08:24 AM

I take it,Megham, that when you commented on Darius's back, that it was your way of letting me know the answer to my enquiry about the 'event'. Yes,can be really painfull if disc is 'slipped ".I can identify and emphasise with the pain he must be in, as at the age of 25, (many moons ago ) i was in hospital for quite a time with 'slipped disc" with my body encased in plaster for about 6 months. That was then , and I don't know how treatment has progressed nowadays.Thing is, when you are young, they will not operate, because of the risk of paralysis, and I assume advice remains the same. Physio to build up and strengthen the surrounding muscles to compensate for the damage, makes a huge difference in returning to normal, but when you have been a really healthy fit person, you tend to look back, thinking "if only I hadn'the done this or that". If anyone can cope and do recover, it's Darius! And if there is one piece of advice I may offer- "walk through the pain" and visit an osteopath. Hope he makes a speedy recovery and lives to 'fight another day'.

Posted by: megham 17th October 2016, 08:23 PM

He had to have 2 weeks of from performing 'Funny Girl' then treatment at least twice a week and one of the dance numbers was altered. He wasn't free to arrange the gig or find premises. I'm think he'll be fine, he has a lot of people trying to make sure he doesn't over do things

Posted by: surrogatemum 18th October 2016, 03:36 PM

I hope he listens to them. Darius and 'take it easy' just don't go together! Sue

I think, inthis, he doesn't have the same choice and even he has to know he has to take care. He does have things he must get on with in America and he does really want to finish and release the album. He played 3 of the new tracks at the gig he did 2nd July

Brilliant news! All sorted for Llandudno in July, theatre and hotel booked. At last, never thought I'd manage it!! Sue

Posted by: Baytree 15th January 2017, 04:17 PM

At last I can understand why Darius is able to commit to the tour now, when he couldn't before.

We know he had plans in the US but circumstances have changed.
With his new role, he's committed to being in the UK for some time. Presumably, his new producers and director are willing to work around hs tour commitments.

I'm so glad Darius is touring. It's been a long time since the History of the Big Bands and even longer since Guys and Dolls. I hope fans won't be miffed that they decided not to buy tickets months ago because Darius said he wasn't doing it and think he's mucked them about.

Me, I don't care if I'm up in 'the Gods' at the Kings so long as I can see Darius and Natasha, for the first time.

I'll just be posh and use my opera glasses!

Funny Girl must be one of the few touring productions to have bona fide West End stars in the lead at every venue.

Thank you very much Megham for info:+ dates for Glasgow. (He had better be there "dead or alive".Ha ha! Will hope I can get booked now?! Could you cast any 'light'on why I no longerror recieve the much welcome Darius news updates via buzzjack? I don't know how or where to find out reason why,so if you could help once again i'do be grateful.Usually these e- mails are news that you or other members have posted.I am not very good when something goes wrong, but for the most part,I manage what I need on Internet.Given my very advanced age,I manage not too badly, but will never be very proficient at this stage of life.I don't have a computer through choice, but manage to meet my needs with this excellent smartphone. Do you think next week would be soon enough to book,as I want to tie up suitable dates for my very busy daughter to schedule. Thanks again, and looking forward to seeing Darius on TV. tomorrow. Can't believe i'very been anamed avid 'fan' of Darius for so many years,as i'very never been a 'fan' of anyone! I used to wonder how people could involve themselves in other people'say lives to 'that degree'! (relative strangers I mean)! BUT here is am,doing just that! Ah Well...

Posted by: megham 26th March 2017, 08:10 PM

I tend to book as early as I can. The adverts that Darius is in the show with Natasha have only recently started. Try and get a booking as soon as you can. I always just look on the site to see if anyone has posted here but cover Darius Campbell Archive and News several time in a day. I like Darius as a person and he deserves success. He is a good man.

Posted by: eden 27th March 2017, 04:03 PM

Thanks again Megham.I will book soonest.Saw him today on "Loose Women".He looked great and conducted his interview with in his usual suave & "seamless" fashion' I often used to wonder ifor there was any nerves in his body. Now,I know there must be.It's just that they'very been constructed from steel!Ha! Joking apart,it was quite a nice change for him to be willing to discuss aspects of his personal life, and he has shown that you can do that, without in depth intrusion.Nice to see the Colourblind video clip too,and photo of his mum & Dad in Loch Lomond. By the way, what adverts were you talking about ? Is it Tv? & which channel.Everything I watch is recorded, and I usually skip adverts, but wI'll look out now. Thanks again for info:

Posted by: megham 27th March 2017, 05:35 PM

I doubt he'd have time for too many nerves at the moment. There are a couple of peices about new interview on radio on Darius Campbell Archive and News as well

Posted by: eden 10th April 2017, 07:36 AM

Wondering. Will Darius mabey be in the audience at the T.v. awards ceremony? Also , does Darius ever appear with Sheridan, during the tour,or have they split things up, so that she tours with Darius's understudy, and that Darius tours with Sheridan understudy? Just curious and a bit puzzling!

Posted by: megham 10th April 2017, 09:51 PM

Every show has either Darius or Sheridan - none have both.

Posted by: megham 11th April 2017, 07:21 PM

Darius is doing the Edinburgh shows with Sheridan - he's delighted to be doing that part of Scotland as well

Posted by: polly 12th April 2017, 10:00 PM

It would be good if they did more shows of the tour together a specially the final leg of the tour in august. Would be nice to see both original leads finish the tour off together. Sorry i know its ages off yet getting ahead of myself smile.gif

Posted by: megham 13th April 2017, 02:34 PM

It would be good but haven't heard anything about them changing the planned leads

Posted by: eden 14th April 2017, 11:29 PM

While both leading women have been reported as excellent-at the end of the day,it is Darius I am going to see,so living nearer to Glasgow, than Edinburgh;I will probably choose Glasgow ( if tickets are not sold out) So "Darius" you had better take note and "be there" on all the nights in glasgow! or I will be devastated! I didn't give my daughter enoughas notice to book for Edinburgh, so hopefully she will be lucky getting tickets for Glasgow. My daughter has a male friend, who has been a long time avid fan of musicals. He told her, that when he went to see "funny girl " in the west end, that it was the best musical he had ever seen, gave great praise of Darius, and said Natasha was great in her role, and had a was a really good singer, so that's comforting to know, and hopefully the experience in glasgow will be just as good,if not better than in Edinburgh.

Posted by: megham 15th April 2017, 07:29 AM

I hope everything goes well. I have seen the show before but am still looking forward to seeing it again - always a little different in theatres

The time I saw it on in t6he West End - it was brilliant. I've seen it with both Sheridan and Natasha as Fanny. Darius was greart but then he's a good actor and his voice is lovely

Posted by: megham 25th April 2017, 02:41 PM

It has been stated that Darius will be in the 2 week Manchester leg of the tour. Not confirmed though. I'm hoping it will be confirmed quickly.

Darius is now doing all the remaining shows as Nick. Brilliant.

All Darius needs to do,is 'turn up' now-or else...! Ha!Good to see the really positive reviews of him across the board. Yes- about time! Sorry, just noticed i spelled his name wrongly- or rather the unpredictable predictive text did! Hope you all get a chance to go at a theatre near you.

Posted by: megham 30th April 2017, 10:20 AM

Darius' back seems to have recovered. What a difference. The song 'Temporary Arrangement' is really slick and active now. One of the best in the show. I don't think people were aware of how difficult it was while the slipped discs were healing.

Posted by: surrogatemum 30th April 2017, 05:13 PM

So pleased his back is recovering. Sue

I think, in Fanny's time, a man would feel really bad about his wife supporting him. Now it's far more of a shared responsibility but then it wasn't - Men didn't used to be happy staying home while their wife supported them. That's one of the things this version did that felt very true.

Posted by: Mack 9th June 2017, 10:25 PM

Shame they put about the Popstars performance in the article when mentioning him.

Posted by: megham 10th June 2017, 10:24 AM

Don't they always.

Posted by: eden 10th June 2017, 04:21 PM

Yes.. they like to harp back to yesteryear, and in the process they usually get the show wrong- it was pops tars. NOT Pop Idol! and the irony is that even that controversial rendition showed how good his singing voice was,and he went on to do well in Pop Idol. Since then we have witnessed the true greatness of his voice, and the great revelation of his compelling baritone, which is something to behold! WELL - that another show ticked of my list.I saw Funny Girl at the Kings in glasgow. As ever,Darius was slick, smooth and played his role to perfection. From what I remember of the film,Omar Sheriff didn't get an awful lot to do in the role, which was surprising, given his fame. Me! I would just have liked to hear more of Darius singing, but I knew what I was 'signing up" to, so didn't expect the usual. I would though, have liked to hear him singing all of Temporary Arrangement, but mabey it was a time thing,as there were some othereason scenes,I was waiting to sreceive, that didn't materialise.

Posted by: Mack 10th June 2017, 08:40 PM

Sorry meant to put Popstars my mistake. Shame they seem to put about that performance on Popstars in articles.

He should be remembered as a finalist in Pop Idol.

Thanks Polly for the link to the radio interview- but you gave me a 'fright'at the observation that Darius 'might not return to singing! I thought he had said something in the interview that leday you to think that- but I listened to it,and found no hint of him sayingredients anything that would suggest that! Darius will always sing.It is part of him,and he has the most wonderful rich and flexible vocals I have ever heard, from the purity of his falsetto to the greatly unknown, and 'untapped' wonder of the deepest and most powerful baritone I have ever heard-It is so compelling, but for some 'misguided' historical reason he chooses not to 'cash in on it' so to speak. My messg:to Darius would be to let the nation hear that side, because things have changed now,and with a good song with both falsetto and baritone- what a wow!! But that's the Darius 'fatal flaw'- "stubborness" - can be a good trait for some things, but self destructive in other things! Anaway Polly, don't think Darius will ever stop publicly singing,or be happy not to. Wish he read our opinions more, aso some advice / feedback can be a consideration even for the most stubborn!

Posted by: polly 30th June 2017, 04:13 PM

It was just when he was asked if he would be bringing any new music out he sort of dodged round the question and talked about the three new films he's producing. Which is great but it made me think. I'm probably wrong though.

Posted by: polly 30th June 2017, 04:58 PM

In another interview he did with natasha the other day they were asked what other musicals they would like to be in. Darius said he'd love to be in les mis. I do think he would be great as jaun val jaun.

Darius will shortly be returning to the world of music with a new album project as well as producing a film starring Orlando Bloom, however he is still bubbling with enthusiasm with his role in Funny Girl of which he continues to tour the UK with until August.

Part of a review from this week. It's Darius, he has so many options and you can only wait and see which way he goes. 3 films take a while but a new album could manage to fit in. I love his singing work but his acting is also really great

Good to hear that Darius will be continuing with his singing. I greatly admire the diversity of his many talents & envy his ability to dour so many different things. In my life,I have only ever achieved the best results/ success by absolute total focus on one aspect, which has ensured I came out on top- whereas if I had tried to shine in a number of things,my Intense focus would not have been possible, thus affecting the success in the most important objective. Sadly perhaps,I learned long ago that life/ success is like one long'numbersgame' of sorts, and that total focus on one element increased the numbers greatly. However I still envy and admire, and respect the many talents that Darius possesses, is successful in, and probably brings him more satisfaction and happiness! You know, when I heard him singing the theme songoing for 'The Godfather, it was so great that you imagined he was that fictional Godfather. Yes he has great talent. Many of his greatest singing performances are never heard by the wider public.Shame!

Saw a tweet tagging Darius which said knowing Funny Girl was to be shown in cinemas had made her life. I hope that's right. If it's shown in cinemas it will probably get a DvD/Bluray release. Well deserved too!

Posted by: Baytree 18th August 2017, 06:46 AM

Has anyone been keeping track of the tour reviews? There are so many. Would it be a good idea to pin even one from each venue just for the record?

Posted by: Baytree 18th August 2017, 08:04 AM

It's the scene where Nick decides to go with the bond scheme which gets him jailed.

The CD only includes It's my neck bit. Didn't Darius sing his lines to a snatch of Don't Rain on my Parade at that bit, or am I mistaken?

Posted by: Baytree 18th August 2017, 09:37 AM

Darius has done more Funny Girl shows than anyone, including Sheridan, and he's done most of the local media interviews etc. for the show. Natasha J Barnes also did quite a bit too both with Darius and solo.

There was a single tweet which seemed that someone had told the tweeter that Funny Girl would be coming to cinemas. If it does, don't miss it.

I missed the showings of FHTE and have regretted it even although I have the DvD and a recording on my sky HD BOX.

This time, if given the chance, I am determined to see Darius on the silver screen

Sorry for the confusion Eden I heard megham had said funny girl had been recorded for dvd yesterday. Maybe we ask her to confirm this please.

Posted by: polly 20th August 2017, 03:07 PM

Or was it cinema realise like fhte sorry I've confused myself now aswell huh.gif huh.gif

Posted by: Baytree 20th August 2017, 03:24 PM

Sorry, just meant something to keep that we could hear/watch over and over.

If it goes like FHTE, it will be shown in a selection of cinemas and then issued as a DvD and possibly on Bluray too.

Posted by: polly 20th August 2017, 03:31 PM

We'll just have to wait and see if it's true

Posted by: Baytree 20th August 2017, 03:55 PM

The tour started at the end of February at Manchester. Then Milton Keynes, Liverpool and Bristol - all starring Sheridan Smith and Chris Peluso as Nick. So - No Darius in the first block of reviews.

Then I'll try to find reviews of Natasha and Sheridan's understudies, Jennifer Harding and Alexandre Waite-Roberts. Darius was onstage with them

Darius did all venues from Edinburgh onwards, with Sheridan or Natasha J Barnes.

Posted by: Baytree 20th August 2017, 04:29 PM

Megham said it had definitely been filmed. I shouldn't think we'll hear much else for a month or two. They've probably got a lot of footage to edit.

If there's a DvD I hope there will be some extra features crediting Natasha and Chris.

Why's the musical called 'Funny Girl' unsure.gif

Upon reading about it I know it is based on a predecessor by Ray Stark called 'The Fabulous Fanny' but not why it is called Funny Girl.

Because that was what Fanny Brice was. A Queen of Comedy. She was one of the highest paid performers in the States.. She was unique. Her material was often risqué.

I wondered why the name 'The Fabulous Fanny' was used as it could be interpreted as a bit of a double entendre. I thought it was just an unfortunate name from a time where such double entendres were not thought about.

The leads are joined by a cast including Nigel Barber (Florenz Ziegfeld), Zoë Ann Bown (Mrs. Meeker), Martin Callaghan (Mr. Keeney), Jennifer Harding (Emma), Rachel Izen (Mrs Brice), Joshua Lay (Eddie) and Myra Sands (Mrs. Strakosh).

It took me a few moments to remember that Darius Campbell – yes, that Colourblind crooner and ex-Pop Idol contestant – was playing the role of Nick Arnstein. He was slick, suave and utterly believable as the tall, dark and handsome man who suddenly swishes into Fanny’s life. He’s putting his fantastic singing voice to good use on the brightly lit stage and it really suits him.

Darius has done more Funny Girl shows than anyone, including Sheridan, and he's done most of the local media interviews etc. for the show. Natasha J Barnes also did quite a bit too both with Darius and solo.

How often do the Funny Girl shows take place?

Posted by: Baytree 22nd August 2017, 05:54 PM

Saturday 19th August, Darius's birthday, were the last two shows on the tour.

In London they did 8 shows per week.

On tour if would depend on the distance between the venues, whether they could start on the Monday or not.

In Glasgow an extra matinee was added presumably because there was a high demand for tickets.

Birmingham had the House Full sign out for the whole week.

Edited because there are always two matinees.... So 3 in Glasgow not 2 like I said before.

Obviously I personally am alright with Sky confirmed but not everyone has Sky or is able to access it by digital means. The producers must know that Sheridan's fans will expect one. She's unlikely to be able to fit it in again unless it was to be on Broadway for example.

http://www.6towns.co.uk/2017/03/review-funny-girl-regent-theatre/

The on-stage chemistry between Barnes and Campbell is a joy to watch and comes across excellently on stage more so during their number ‘You are woman, I am man’

A special mention should go to Campbell for his performance as Arnstein, I honestly didn’t know what to expect of the singer of pop hit ‘colourblind’ but his performance is so far away from his popstar days and it’s refreshing to see him enjoy every second on stage and see just how talented a performer he is.

http://northwestend.co.uk/index.php/professional-reviews/the-midlands/1887-funny-girl-regent-theatre-stoke

Darius Campbell was also an incredible presence on that stage when he talked the entire theatre listened. His voice was endearing and humble but also deep and dulcet. He was completely perfect for the role and the chemistry between Campbell and Barnes was completely electric.

https://whatsgoodtodo.co.uk/funny-girl-at-the-regent-theatre-stoke-review/

OK folks, time for a tiny confession, I’ve always liked Darius Campbell, right from his small-screen appearance as Darius Danesh, singing reworked Brittany Spear’s hits on Popstars. With his charisma, vocal talent, good looks and larger-than-life stage presence he has found a natural home in musical theatre and was compelling as the intoxicating, but flawed male lead.

Aberdeen - His Majesty's Theatre - 10th - 15th April

https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/lifestyle-reviews/1219442/review-feel-good-time-funny-girl/

Despite her famous predecessors which include Sheridan Smith, the actress handled the role with both passion and vulnerability.

It is the latter quality which makes Fanny all the more loveable on her journey from a music hall singer to Broadway star.

It is a story which her co-star, Darius Campbell, is perhaps familiar with following his stint on Pop idol.

He first came to our attention in 2001 and has gone on to become a platnium selling artist, author, and film produce – before making his debut in Funny girl as Nick Arnstein.

Smooth, slick, and every bit the rogue who stole Fanny’s heart, the pair gave a convincing performance filled with chemistry but more importantly, hilarity.

An accidental slip on to Nick’s knee was clearly not part of the script and had both the cast and the audience rocking with laughter.

Natasha’s powerful vocals made light work of classics such as Don’t Rain On My Parade and she had the audience captivated throughout.

Her excellent sense of comic timing coupled with a fantastic cast saw a standing ovation.

https://www.eveningexpress.co.uk/fp/lifestyle/charming-bright-and-quirky-portrayal-of-broadway-star/

Playing the role of Nick Arnstein was old TV favourite Darius Campbell but far from being a cameo appearance, he exuded charm and his voice was undeniably beautiful.

Edinburgh Playhouse - 18th - 22nd April

Reunion for Sheridan and Darius

http://www.fifetoday.co.uk/news/theatre-review-funny-girl-at-the-edinburgh-playhouse-1-4424110

Funny Girl is one of the best productions I have seen on stage in a long time – largely due to the two actors in the leading roles: Sheridan Smith and Darius Campbell.
While Darius Campbell is her perfect match in this production. He was excellent as the very charming Nick Arnstein and his singing voice is incredible. Many will remember the Scottish singer-songwriter when he first shot to fame with his cover version of ‘Hit Me Baby One More Time’, but in this role he shows just how far he has come since those early days and the success he has had in a number of hit musicals has been well-deserved.

https://www.edinburghguide.com/reviews/musicals/funnygirledinburghplayhousereview-17914

Popstars contestant and Incredible singer Darius Campbell plays with undeniable weight (and height) the troubled, once devil-may-care husband, Nicky Arnstein. Somber, seductive and supportive, he strides alongside Smith in a perfect performance.

http://www.theedinburghreporter.co.uk/2017/04/review-funny-girl-the-musical/

Funny Girl tells Brice’s story and focuses on her career as well as her marriage to Nicky Arnstein (superbly played by former Popstars contestant Darius Campbell) The film of the same name made a star of Hollywood legend Barbara Streisand in 1968.

http://www.scotsman.com/lifestyle/culture/theatre/theatre-review-funny-girl-the-musical-coriolanus-vanishes-voices-in-her-ear-1-4426091

The staging is unobtrusively brilliant, the dance is exhilarating, and the supporting performances – above all from Darius Campbell as Arnstein, and Rachel Izen as Fanny’s mother – are flawless; and it’s hardly surprising that this gem of a show, starring a woman of blazing talent whose recent roles range from Cilla Black on television to Hedda Gabler on stage, is attracting capacity crowds to the 3,000-seat Playhouse, every night of the week.

https://www.broadwayworld.com/scotland/article/BWW-Review-FUNNY-GIRL-at-Edinburgh-Playhouse-20170420

Darius Campbell swoons in the spotlight as the leading man. A voice so divinely deep that the theatre trembles with every line. A talent as tall as his skyscraper height. He never gets left behind and matches wonderfully as the other half.

http://theweereview.com/review/funny-girl/

Another famous face to appear in this performance is Darius Campbell, who is well cast as Nick Arnstein. It’s easy to be cynical about the casting of “names” in shows, but Campbell’s portrayal is immaculate – emotionally complex, charismatic, funny and moving.

Nice to read all these reviews and to know how well recieved Darius was.Not an easy role for Darius to develop, given the historical limits placed on him and Omar Sheriff, but Darius did more with it than expected and has such good comedic expressions,it gives far more to Nick than was portrayed by Omar. Just a pity Darias did not get to use his singing so much,as he is so talented in that field, but yes,I appreciate it was 'all about Fanny',but didn't stop me from feeling 'starved'a bit ,not being able to sing more.

Posted by: Baytree 26th August 2017, 09:23 PM

That's the only disappointing aspect of the roles Darius has played. No blockbuster.

Still he is I believe the only person to have recorded Temporary Arrangement since Omar Sharif's version was rejected for the film.

It was not performed on Broadway or London before. The only other recording I've heard just once was by Jules Styne himself.

http://britishtheatre.com/review-funny-girl-new-victoria-theatre-woking/

Tonight in Woking Natasha J Barnes and Darius Campbell played Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein, roles that are being rotated with Sheridan Smith and Chris Peluso.
Leading men don't come any better than Darius Campbell. Towering over Natasha with a gorgeous baritone that has the smooth sensuality of one Nat King Cole, his take on famed gambler Nick Arnstein seems effortless and suave. There's obvious chemistry between Campbell and Barnes that makes their love affair all the more palpable and its demise all the more heart-breaking.

http://www.thehollywoodnews.com/2017/04/26/funny-girl-theatre-review/

Some adulation must also be reserved for Darius Campbell, the actor and singer furthering his stage career with another solid performance as Arnstein and showing maturity as a performer with a long career ahead of him. He’s truly excellent here and a worthy partner to Barnes’ Brice.

In the pinned thread Funny Girl Tour Reviews, I've copied the bits about Darius because sometimes with time links stop working.

Please make any comments in the Funny Girl Show & gig thread.

Darius Campbell (of Popstars and Pop Idol fame) is also a pleasant surprise. His on-stage relationship and chemistry with Barnes is natural and utterly hilarious. Their rendition of You Are Woman, I Am Man is fantastic and has me crying with laughter.

https://theangrymicrowave.com/funny-girl-uk-tour-review/

The cast really lay the foundations for an outstanding lead performance for Natasha, with Darius Campbell switching on his charm while building upon and then exposing Nick Arnstein’s flaws to lead Barnes into pleading her soul out during the climax, making the plot lines converge into one outburst of emotion. This is mixed with slapstick comedy throughout the evening that never becomes overwhelming, always managing to tread the line to not become larger than life and an cartoon impression of the source material.

Darius Campbell, one time Pop Idol contestant, is the perfect straight man for this comedy as the sophisticated gambler and socialite Nick Arnstein as he first woos and then marries Fanny.

Their scenes together, with him the perfect charmer and her his clumsy target are a joy to watch.

https://www.expressandstar.com/entertainment/theatre-and-comedy/2017/05/10/funny-girl-birmingham-hippodrome---review-and-pictures/

Darius Campbell as Nick Arnstein is every inch the suave, sophisticated, handsome millionaire, with a voice as smooth as the silk on his top hat and perfect chemistry with Sheridan Smith.

http://www.behindthearras.com/Reviewspr/2017/reviewsPROAprJun2017/funny-girl-review-birmingham-H05-17.html

Darius Campbell is tall, dark and handsome as the gambling international man-about-town, Nick Arnstein, who woos and marries Fanny in a relationship which is doomed even without his being jailed for bond fraud. He is charm itself with a lovely voice for the duets with Brice.

https://www.whatsonlive.co.uk/birmingham/news/funny-girl-review/38007

Smith is supported by an exceptional cast. Darius Campbell is a suave Nick Arnstein, sweeping both Brice and the entire audience off their feet with his deep, rich voice. Joshua Lay’s Eddie Ryan and Rachel Izen’s Mrs Brice shine as the faithful support system who taught Brice ‘Everything She Knows’.

http://stylebham.com/life/review-funny-girl-birmingham-hippodrome

The supporting cast also doesn’t disappoint. Darius Campbell oozes charm in his role as Nick Arnstein and equally breaks hearts when his marriage to Fanny takes a turn for the worst. And having returned to the UK after playing Madame Thénardier in Les Misérables on Broadway, Rachel Izen too delivered a noteworthy performance as Fanny’s mother, Mrs Brice.

http://lichfieldlive.co.uk/2017/05/12/review-funny-girl-at-the-birmingham-hippodrome/

If her theatrical talent shines through, so does her ability to choose the wrong man, here Darius Campbell suavely convincing as Nick Arnstein the near-gangsterish bootlegger who was her husband, and father to her child.

http://www.thereviewshub.com/funny-girl-birmingham-hippodrome/

There can be no doubt that all performances, and especially those of Smith and Campbell, hit the spot squarely. Smith pushes the kooky button with just the right amount of pressure, and Campbell has a superbly rich speaking and singing voice that suits his character to a T. Michael Mayer’s direction, supported by designer Michael Pavelka’s minimalist set that includes mirrored wings (representing the introspection of Brice and Arnstein, perhaps), ensures that the flow is smooth and the laughs come thick and fast – one just can’t help rooting for Brice while simultaneously knowing that Arnstein is too good to be true: no decent man could be that smooth, surely?

Newcastle - Theatre Royal 16th-20th May

Sheridan

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/whats-on/theatre-news/sheridan-smith-shines-funny-girl-13053748

At which point, enter Nick Arnstein, who is so much in the Rock Hudson mould – tall, dark, handsome and as smooth as molten Ferrero Rocher – that it’s instantly hilarious.
This is a uniformly good cast. Joshua Lay is a cracking Eddie, Rachel Izen as Mrs Brice has personality by the bucketful (and can also shake a leg) and Darius Campbell as Mr Arnstein does rather more than just look hilariously handsome in a suit. The lad can sing, too.

https://luxe-magazine.co.uk/2017/05/funny-girl-theatre-royal-newcastle/

She stars with singer Darius Campbell as the suave, handsome and not so reliable Nick Arnstein who loves her ‘just as she is’. He’s a great, sexy leading man and their scenes together are fabulous – his voice has great range – as are his moves in the glossy Hollywood dance routine in the number, Temporary Arrangement.

https://letsgotothemovies.co.uk/2017/05/19/funny-girl-uk-tour-review/

Darius Campbell was a good match up to Smith in the role of Nick and had a certain sleazy charm to him! Another nice surprise in performance terms, I mean I know he has a good voice but the acting to go along with it very good to see.

I am sorry that my appearance on the forum was a bit sudden, but really I was only intending to come here to help the forum get better and more fun. There had not been much activity on the forum for ages and lots of people on Buzzjack were discussing the possibility of the Darius forum closing because it was not being used enough. I realized how unique the Darius forum was on Buzzjack (I had been there a bit before a few times too) and that it would be a great pity if the forum did go from Buzzjack, while at the same time thinking I did actually like Darius' voice. So I started posting here, and at the same time long time users such as Baytree started coming back to the forum and posting more too which was brilliant and there were some great discussions, and despite a few other threads about other Dariuses and username rates (which in hindsight should have been discussed on the off topic waffle thread rather than having their own threads) most of the discussion was relevant and about Darius Campbell-Danesh himself!

The poplar tree was only a light hearted joke to do with someone's predictive spelling calling Popstar to Operastar 'Poplar to Operastar'.

Likewise the pronunciation about my username I don't really care about biggrin.gif I am not actually German by the way.

I guess you are referring to the Darius fanfic thread. I was very careful to portray Darius, even in a fictional capacity, as a gentleman on the Darius fan fiction page in my posts on that thread but unfortunately some other people on there didn't.

Glasgow King's 30th May - 3rd June

Natasha

http://www.thereviewshub.com/funny-girl-kings-theatre-glasgow/

As Arnstein, the object of Brice’s desire and devotion, and the cause of her emotional downfall, Darius Campbell, here in his home city, is a commanding presence and ably matches Barnes’ dazzling central performance. His deep, dark baritone and undoubted good looks eliciting oohs and ahhs throughout.

http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/15321788.Review__Funny_Girl_at_the_King_s_Theatre___no_one_can_rain_on_this_show
_s_five_star_parade/

Another surprise performance came from Glasgow’s very own Darius Campbell who first shot to fame on Popstars and Pop Idol.

A lot of touring productions often take on a big name for the show and it can be more of a miss than a hit.
Darius Campbell, above, however, was born for the stage. If his calling wasn’t a hugely successful pop career, then it is definitely musical theatre.

He reminded me of Rhett Butler in how he portrayed Nick Arsten. He was suave, attractive and showed off the classic man’s man persona required for such a part.

Darius and Natasha together were a dream to watch on stage. The audience fell in love with them falling head over heels. Even a blip of comic timing from the audience laughing at an innuendo did not sway them from the part – although the pair were close to hysterics.

http://www.backstagepass.biz/2017/06/theatre-review-funny-girl-kings-theatre.html

Darius Campbell reprises his role as Nick Arnstein and elevates the part into something more memorable than is written. His strong voice, his physical presence and stillness combine to make the most out of an inadequately written part whilst adding sterling support as an arresting leading man to the primary role of Fanny Brice, shared on tour between Sheridan Smith and Natasha J Barnes (who famously rose from understudy to share the role with Smith in London)

https://www.tickx.co.uk/article/568/in-review-funny-girl-kings-theatre-glasgow/

Playing opposite Barnes and Smith is chart-topping, Glasgow-favourite Darius Campbell who's portrayal of Nick Arnstein exults glamour, arrogance and sex appeal in equal measure. Not content with being a kept man, Nick must try to prove himself and avoid his wife's overbearing tendencies. Darius proves that his vocal range goes beyond that of Colourblind as he effortlessly sings numbers such as I Want to be Seen with You Tonight and You are Woman, I am Man.

I have not seen Funny Girl. I tried to look it up but there were no videos long enough on youtube (understandably as that would spoil the surprise for those going to see it) to assess whether his Funny Girl character is likeable or not despite the apparent arrogance of his character it mentions in the review.

As to the second question, I have never met Darius. I didn't ask if Darius himself was not likeable (he does seem undoubtedly very likeable from what I have seen of him) I asked if you would consider his Funny Girl character likeable. I just think any perceived arrogance is a big put off in liking a character in drama imo, but maybe it was only perceived arrogance of his character by the reviewer.

So too did Darius Campbell. Yes that Darius Campbell, the one whose version of Britney Spears’ Hit Me Baby One More Time during auditions for Popstars will be forever seared on our memory. In the intervening years, Campbell has grown into a genuine musical star and here he plays the charming, but deeply flawed Nick Arnstein who gambles with everything, including Fanny’s unconditional love, beautifully.

It might have been tough stepping out in front of a crowd who really wanted someone else, but to quote Darius of old, ‘there was a lot of love in the room’ for a bone fide Funny Girl.

Darius Campbell was a gem as Arnstein; smooth-talking and sophisticated, he had great stage presence. And he got it just right with6 the roguish edginess that we knew wouldn't end well for Nick or Fanny.

http://www.thestateofthearts.co.uk/features/funny-girl-alhambra-theatre-bradford/

Let’s move on to Darius Campbell as Nick Arnstein. Not only is his rich, deep voice enough to make anyone swoon, he adds a lovely vulnerability to his role as the gambling bad boy turned kept man. Nick Arnstein’s need for freedom comes across as sweet and desperately important and I feel empathy for both characters in this situation. The ending has me in floods of tears as Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein share a heart-to-heart before Brice delivers her Finale. The connection between the pair is lovely and their voices complement each other well.

I suppose it's in the eye of the beholder.

I would say that at first the director is emphasising how Fanny and Nick are complete opposites, with him the worldly wise, globetrotting, guarded gambler, who fits in anywhere and Fanny still young and awkward. When they meet again after their introductory meeting, Fanny tells Nick that she' has imagined him all over the world and he's like a character in a book.

For comedic effect, the height difference is also emphasised.

I found the character of Nick changed as the story unfolded as did Fanny's.

It was quite a story of mixed emotion.

Posted by: SpamFritter 30th August 2017, 11:07 AM

Arrogance vs confidence

To me Nick was confident and not arrogant.

To someone else they could possible see the other.

He seemed a very caring man who truly loved Fanny in what would seem a miss match of partnerships.

Fanny became very confident over the time and for me, did not see Nick's needs.

However he was too proud to accept her help after the crash.

A tragic story really.

Shame people cannot be more open with each other.

Posted by: The Hissmobile 30th August 2017, 04:58 PM

There were no clips of Darius, even short ones in Funny Girl I could see on youtube sadly when I looked it up. Even singing any of the songs. Understandable though as to not spoil the surprise of the musical.

I don't really like the songs song in Funny Girl by the character of Fanny (the vocal is too harsh and accented for my liking and the vocal style reminds too much of 'Let It Go' by Idina Menzel which I am not much of a fan of). I haven't heard any that are sung by the character of Nick yet.

Arrogance V Confidence.

It's where Darius came in - in Popstars, Darius seemed confident and it was edited as arrogance.

In fact, it was neither.

Darius had rarely sung to anyone other than his family and friends. As a uni student he'd braved a few open mike nights in local pubs.

He found himself among a host of kids with a lot of experience and/or training behind them. He felt out of his depth and put on a confident demeanour. It was bravado masking perceived inadequacy.

As I said, Darius, also has to be commended for his performance, also. His stage presence had me like putty in his hands, never mind Fanny Brice. The epitome of debonair and suave. A voice as smooth as galaxy chocolate wrapped in silk. Even aesthetically he looked like the part was made for him. He brought, to the stage, everything that Fanny would have fallen in love with when she met Arnstein. Experience as everything from a successful pop star, to performing in Opera’s, really shone through, extending his charisma and charm to the audience in everything he did. Hats off to the chap.

http://amessinadress.co.uk/2017/06/14/theatre-review-funny-girl-theatre-royal-nottingham/

Darius Campbell (yes, that Darius) played the debonair and charming Nick Arnstein, Fanny’s love interest and eventual husband. Darius seemed so perfect for the era of the show. He oozed charisma and had a great singing voice, especially in the song “Temporary Arrangement”. His “Nicky” seemed to have genuine affection for Fanny and even though I knew how it was all going to end, I was still rooting for them as a couple.

https://eastmidlandstheatre.com/2017/06/14/review-funny-girl-touring-nottingham-theatre-royal/

Both Barnes and Campbell totally excel in their parts and Barnes is a complete revelation on stage – completely convincing as Fanny Brice in her brilliant singing as well as her comic timing

The devilish good looks and sonorous tones of Campbell’s Arnstein continue into the second half but take on a more corrupt personality willing to exploit Fanny to the point of bankruptcy. If it were a Victorian melodrama we would be booing up to the rafters!

http://www.chad.co.uk/whats-on/review-funny-girl-at-nottingham-theatre-royal-1-8597423

Her love interest is Nicky Arnstein, tall, handsome, debonair, a businessman with a fondness for the cards, the dice and the horses. Here we have Darius Campbell strolling through the part, using his height, elegance and deep voice to reprise his role in the West End opposite Sheridan Smith. It is Arnstein, with his sophistication and contacts, who is the dominant figure in the early stages of the relationship: then, in the second act, as Fanny’s star rises his wanes, along with their deteriorating relationship.

http://www.itsmuchmore.com/review-funny-girl-theatre-royal-nottingham

Darius was well suited to the role of smooth and confident Nicky, and gave us a real treat with his silky voice, belting out the musical numbers, his cocky move of throwing (fake) money into the audience was a big hit – I even got $100! – not a bribe I promise.

I never thought the video of him going out of Popstars showed any arrogance. He showed he cared about the other people in the room and gave them a positive pep talk.

Nor (mostly) the video of him singing Hit Me Baby One More Time, he was just trying to give the reasons why he was singing Hit Me Baby One More Time and it was quite humorous how he said 'I'm going to sing your favourite Nigel'.

Maybe how he clapped his hands once at the end of the audition and walked away from the camera came across as a bit arrogant though!

Darius has not confirmed anything yet except that Sky have the DVD, as far as I know.

I was really meaning explaining to your partner your feelings, your dreams and asking them theirs. Then working together for a common goal which makes them both happy.

Not complaining, nagging etc

Too many people moan about their partners and drift apart....

Then, if only I had done, said......

But then it is too late sad.gif

Simple Like The Truth on the Dive In album really nails how the lack of every day communication can drive people apart.

Sky 1? Is that what Darius said? Musicals, concerts etc. are usually shown on Sky Arts. From Here To Eternity definitely was.

Sorry. Hadn't read whole thread...... . polly has already made that point.

I have Sky But I don't have a DvD recorder any more. 1 play DVDs on my TV or Computer and record on my Sky box.

I've never figured out a way to move the recordings on to any other device.

I know what you mean. I tried moving my recording of from here to eternity to dvd and ended up deleting it instead. Now I'm not even sure if from here to eternity will ever be on sky arts again but at least got funny girl to look forward to.

Posted by: SpamFritter 31st August 2017, 05:55 PM

There are 3 DVDs left for sale on Amazon, but quite expensive

Posted by: Baytree 31st August 2017, 06:01 PM

Sorry to hear that, polly. I won't try to move them.

I've got Darius's Hotel Babylon show on there too. One of the channels showed every episode right from the beginning.

I usually just play my Sky HD recording of FHTE rather than the DVD. I watched it again last week.

Thank goodness I buy into the hard bitten career soldier Warden. Otherwise, it would be very difficult to watch Darius swearing so much.

She was ably supported by pop star turned stage star Darius Campbell, who delivered a polished performance as the suave Nick Arnstein.
For someone who started his career as a singer, his vocal talent could never be in doubt, but he proved he had plenty of acting skill as well.

http://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/local/15360713.Funny_Girl_Review___Show_hits_all_the_right_notes/

Both funny and sad, at the heart is the rags to riches tale of Fanny and her romance with the suave wheeler dealer Nick Arnstein, played X-Factor alumni Darius Campbell who has found huge success in stage musicals.
The two leads and supporting cast are faultless, the costumes beautiful and the songs memorable.

https://www.leigh-on-sea.com/blog/detail/funny-girl-review.html

On her journey, Brice falls in love with Nick Arnstein, played by the rather wonderful Darius Campbell, who occupies the role with dashingly handsome panache. He towers over his co-star, smoothly seducing her with his disarmingly warm baritone voice. The chemistry between them is evident, making their final heart break seem that little bit more real.

https://whatsgoodtodo.co.uk/funny-girl-the-musical-at-the-cliffs-pavilion-southend-review/

Darius Campbell (who I remember as Darius Danesh from Pop Idol) played the role of Nick Arnstein very well. He has a super voice and the chemistry between Arnstein & Brice is clear from the start.

Cardiff - Wales Millennium Centre 4th - 8th July

Sheridan

http://www.asiw.co.uk/reviews/sheridan-smith-simply-sensational-funny-girl-wales-millennium-centre

That top quality includes a quite sensational cast with every role perfect. Darius Campbell was a towering and very dapper chap as her handsome if rather feckless husband Nicky Arnstein, who cannot cope with being the unsuccessful member of the relationship, dependent on his wife’s earning, and turns to fraud to try to make some money of his own.

https://www.wicid.tv/2017/07/06/funny-girl-wmc/

As well as humour, music and camaraderie, “Funny Girl” is a love story. The chemistry of Smith and Campbell was immediate – as soon as he spoke his first line as the smooth-talking, tall, dark and handsome Arnstein – she was hooked! Their duets and solos added layer upon layer to their story and deepened their connection, while Campbell’s sombre and devilish rendition of: “Temporary Arrangement” added the menace his character needed to become more than just an extension of Brice.

http://www.buzzmag.co.uk/uncategorized/funny-girl-stage-review/

Her romance, subsequent marriage and divorce from the suave and sophisticated Nick Arnstein is the central theme of the show. Arnstein is played by Darius Campbell, née Danesh – famed for his Britney Spears turn on ITV’s Popstars, now a stalwart of London musical theatre. His voice is superb and he reminded me of Rhett Butler – indeed, it transpires he played him in Sir Trevor Nunn’s theatrical adaptation of Gone With The Wind.

https://www.kellyallenwriter.com/2017/07/simply-breathtaking-funny-girl-at-wales.html

On stage Smith looked so tiny, especially beside tall, handsome and equally talented Darius Campbell who played Nick Arnstein. She was petite and perfect, and it suited the character of Brice. Smith reminded me of one of my favourite comedy performers, Melissa McCarthy; her facial expressions and characteristics were very similar, so I warmed to her immediately.
I was close to tears many times during the performance, and I cried tears of laughter during the seduction scene between Smith and Campbell; they had perfect chemistry and perfect timing when it came to the comic scenes.
When it comes to the main characters, both Smith and Campbell captivated my heart. I used to love Darius way back when he became famous and I had no idea he was in the show, so you can imagine my excitement! He was absolutely fantastic and I actually sympathised with him and his situation with Fanny and his lack of finance/gambling problems. He was gentle and kind, even with his faults, and his voice was so beautiful, I couldn't get enough of him and his version of You Are Woman, I Am Man was stunning.

https://welshcakesandwellies.wordpress.com/2017/07/06/sheridan-smith-is-funny-girl-at-the-wmc/

The love interest Nick Arnstein, played by Darius Campbell, who first rose to fame in Pop Idol, provides an almost perfect fit for the role that was originally played by Omar Shariff in the film version; but with the advantage of Campbell having a much better voice. The duet between Smith and Campbell is perhaps the most touching moment of the second half.

Dublin - Bord Gais Energy Theatre 11th-15th July

Sheridan

http://www.independent.ie/entertainment/sheridan-spectacular-as-funny-girl-brice-35809678.html

Brice fell in love with a bad 'un - Nicky Arnstein, who in Funny Girl is let off the hook as being more of an eejit than a serious criminal. Darius Campbell (formerly known as Danesh) turns in an impeccable performance as the smooth, suave Nick, and dusts it off with just the right amount of cheese.

https://nomoreworkhorse.com/2017/07/13/funny-girl-bord-gais-energy-theatre-review/

Along the way she meets the dashing Nicky Arnstein who is as shady as he is handsome. Blinded by love however Fanny is unable to see his faults until their life together eventually implodes. Smith attacks the role of Brice with gusto. She brings both energy and heart to the role and a huge amount of humour. She is aided in no small part by popstar turned leading man Darius Campbell as Nicky. Despite his reality TV origins he proves that he actually has a depth and talent beyond the clever editing of a throwaway television show.

http://entertainment.ie/music/news/Review-Funny-Girl-The-Bord-Gais-Energy-Theatre/395241.htm

Former Pop Idol contestant Darius Campbell (remember ‘Colourblind’?) aptly plays the part of Fanny’s love interest Nick Arnstein, a suave gambler and New York socialite. His towering presence is the perfect foil for the diminutive Smith. Their chemistry was illustrated during a love scene in which Arnstein tries to seduce the awkward Brice.

Wolverhampton Grand Theatre 24th - 29th July

https://www.expressandstar.com/entertainment/2017/07/25/funny-girl-wolverhampton-grand-theatre---review-with-pictures/

Darius Campbell is perfectly cast as Nick Arnstein. The ladies in the audience swoon at his suave, sophisticated portrayal and outstanding vocal performance, while the gentlemen just want to be him. The chemistry between Barnes and Campbell is good, although maybe that tiny spark of absolute magic was missing at times.

http://www.blackcountryradio.co.uk/blogs/theatre/post/funny-girl-at-wolverhampton-grand-theatre/

Campbell, who's CV includes stints in Gone With The Wind, Guys And Dolls and a trio of appearances in Chicago, proves both his talent and vocal power with a compelling interpretation of Nick Arnstein. Far more than 'the guy from Pop Idol', Campbell takes a character, who's success to failure story is arguably the complete opposite of Fanny's, and holds his own beautifully. There's always a risk in a show that's centred around one particular character, that others can become supplementary - but this is very much not the case here

http://www.thereviewshub.com/funny-girl-grand-theatre-wolverhampton/

Opposite Barnes is Darius Campbell as Nicky Arnstein. Campbell has a suave sophistication that is well suited to the role, with a straight delivery that serves as a good counter to Brice’s brash humour. He also has a fine singing voice and gives a competent performance despite the role of Arnstein being somewhat two-dimensional and overshadowed by Brice.

http://www.northwestend.co.uk/index.php/professional-reviews/the-midlands/2252-funny-girl-grand-theatre-wolverhampton

I must also give credit to Darius Campbell who played Nicky Arnstein. I admit I was intrigued because my only knowledge of him was as a pop star in the early 2000’s. I am happy to say I was very pleasantly surprised. He was a charming leading man. Towering over Natasha with a gorgeously smooth baritone voice, his take on Nick Arnstein seemed effortless. There's undeniable chemistry between Campbell and Barnes that has you rooting for them the whole way and their voices melt together magnificently, no more so that in the number ‘Who Are You Now?’

Plymouth Theatre Royal - 1st - 5th August

Natasha

http://www.thereviewshub.com/funny-girl-theatre-royal-plymouth/

Darius Campbell first came to public attention after appearing on Pop Idol. Over these last few years he has transitioned into musical theatre where he has regularly performed charismatic leading roles in productions including Chicago and Guys and Dolls. Well suited to the part of Arnstein, he admirably provides support to Barnes’ tour-de-force.

https://whatsgoodtodo.co.uk/funny-girl-at-the-theatre-royal-plymouth-review/

I enjoyed the whole evening and feel mean to pull out separate artists but Darius Campbell as Nick Arnstein was a good foil to Natasha with his powerful voice and stage presence.

https://www.upsu.com/media/news/article/8537/Funny-Girl-If-You-Like-To-Laugh-Cry-or-Sing-This-Is-The-Play-To-See/

The audience of Funny Girl in the Lyric, Theatre Royal Plymouth, are in for a rare treat, as seldom are such emotionally honest performances delivered live on stage in musical theatre. Both Natasha J Barnes and Darius Campbell excelled in their lead roles as Fanny Brice and Nick Arnstein.

Her counterpoint, Darius Campbell, has come a long way from his Pop Idol win with his time in opera and as Rhett Butler in Sir Trevor Nunn’s Gone with the Wind, perhaps most noticeably. She and Darius Campbell inject powerful emotions into both the spoken and sung text. This is a play of emotional extremes, swinging from laughter to great sadness and back again. But, between the two, the audience develops a deep empathy with the characters. Even with her husband gone, Fanny carries on singing, smiling, and making them laugh.

And if I click onext Artist ,I am stuck with some woman Ninja or something.I can't get it off and am wondering if any of my efforts which failed to remove the female artiste, has inadvertently removed me from Darius updates.I don't choose to have a computer,so entirely rely on my smartphone to use Internet and access buzzjack. Somehow I don't feel I will ever get it sorted, and Baytree did try to help, and i thought I was getting there- but turned out worse than I thought,so my capabilities must be even more limited than even I imagined. Pity,as I had been a member for so long, and thanks to the others I was able to keep up to date and attend performances of Darius, which I otherwise would not have known about.By the way,I did see Sheridan Smith on t.v.,by chance, but I think her strengths lie in comedic acting.

Oh yeah your quite right at long last yahoo.gif please ignore the post directly above. Really looking forward to seeing this yahoo.gif vue cinemas here I come yahoo.gif but I'm just wondering weather they will show it on sky arts or go to dvd after its been in the cinema like they did with from here to eternity. Mind you that was at Christmas time but at least people who didn't get the chance to see it in the cinema would get to see it eventually biggrin.gif

I've asked to be informed when they can confirm when and where 'Funny Girl. is being shown

Posted by: Polly 27th July 2018, 10:23 PM

I've had a look at listings at my local vue cinema and it says it will be shown there on 24th October

Posted by: Polly 28th July 2018, 02:20 PM

Someone posted on the Facebook page that they were going to wait to book tickets till they were certain that Darius was in it but I thought they only filmed when it was Darius playing Nick? I hope I'm right as I didn't get to see it in the theatre and I've been waiting ages for it to be released in the cinema as have many others I'm sure and I'd definitely be able to get to a cinema where it is being shown as there is one right near me.

Darius is definitely in it Polly - it says it's starring Sheridan Smith and Darius Campbell dance.gif

I know me too. We've been waiting forever seems like yahoo.gif will it be on for a while or will it be just a one day event like from here to eternity biggrin.gif

Posted by: Polly 31st July 2018, 04:34 PM

Is it just in cinemas for one day like from here to eternity was or is it in cinemas for a while because some cinemas say from 24th October making me think it will be on for a while

Article about the cinema realise confirming it's definitely happening because I think some cinemas still say tbc but it's definitely happening on the 24th yahoo.gif https://www.whatsonstage.com/london-theatre/news/funny-girl-sheridan-smith-cinema-screening_47249.html

For one night only sad.gif hope there will be a DvD smile.gif or be on Sky1 or sky arts like darius promised.

Posted by: Polly 5th August 2018, 09:52 PM

Does anyone know if there will be a DvD or if it will be on tv at some point after being in cinemas? Or maybe they will put it on sky cinema premiere channel on the same day as its in the cinema because they do that sometimes when a film comes out at the cinema they put it on sky Premier on the same day biggrin.gif

On funny girl website they have a list of cinemas it's on at but also at the bottom of the page they advertise channels as well including sky arts so maybe they will show it on there on the same day or soon. I hope so biggrin.gif

Posted by: Polly 24th August 2018, 05:16 PM

Bit of a strange question but will it be shown on Facebook as well on the 24th because when I put funny girl into Google all the cinema venues come up but it also puts Facebook up as an event on the 24th or is that just meaning what facebook have already put up about it being in cinemas?

Posted by: Polly 26th August 2018, 03:10 PM

Tweeted sky arts about if they have an update on when they will be showing it. I'll let you all know when they tweet me back. biggrin.gif

Not had confirmation but something is telling me it will be broadcast on sky arts on the same day as the cinema just read something that says funny girl in cinemas and on sky arts. Sky arts is producing it so maybe it will be the same day hope so.

Did you see it Polly? You seemed so excited but haven't commented on what you thought!?

I thought it was wonderful! I had seen it four times on stage both with Sheridan and Natasha but it translated to the big screen so well because all the facial expressions could be seen. The action was much closer and it incorporates every emotion! Hilarious but sometimes so sad! cry.gif
Sheridan is incredible....such a bundle of energy and she and Darius work so well together wub.gif Even D's dancing had considerably improved! dance.gif
Darius looked so handsome ......and it was a real bonus having him talk all about his audition at the Menier Chocolate Factory during the interval. I hope this is included if a DVD is released.
Apparently Natasha Barnes was at our cinema with her parents....I didn't speak to her but friends of ours did......such a shame she couldn't somehow be included! sad.gif

I thought it was weird that D's name did not appear on the credits until the second page!! mad.gif and also strange why he did not promote it in any way......I can only assume that he is too involved in his film production work and that theatre/music is not his top priority at this time! cry.gif Having said that.....as Funny Girl was shown all over the world I hope offers will be flooding in after seeing/hearing how wonderful he is on screen! biggrin.gif

I was hoping to but unfortunately in the end I couldn't get there. I'm still hoping to see it at some point or maybe they will extend it in cinemas given it's sold well and I'm sure it was great all round and will be worth the wait.

I was watching the one show tonight and Sheridan Smith was on and the first question she was asked was did someone tell you to shut up at your own show this week, she said yea she went to see funny girl with her boyfriend and she was explaining it to him because he had never seen it and someone told her to shut up because she was talking really loud then she said I know it's probably really bad to go to the cinema to see my own show I probably should of just waited for the dvd. She says it really quick but I'm sure she confirmed there will be a dvd. biggrin.gif

For anyone who is planning to watch or record funny girl on Sunday. On programme listings it doesn't just say funny girl it actually says digital theatre but then if you press on information on your remote it says funny girl. Thought I'd let you all know in case people got confused as to why it didn't just say funny girl at 8pm smile.gif

Posted by: Polly 22nd December 2018, 01:51 PM

Tomorrow when it's on it's programme listed under digital theatre(who produced the filming) but then it's on again on Christmas day at 7.25am and it says funny girl the musical. Doesn't make sense that it's only programme listed properly on Christmas day but not tomorrow wacko.gif

😃

Posted by: Polly 24th December 2018, 02:52 PM

OK this is my opinion on funny girl. Some people might not like some of the things I say so I apologise in advance. The good things about it are when fanny first meets Nick, the wedding scene and suduction scene and I love Darius' attempts at dancing and I also love at the end when they are taking their bows and they are given flowers and D offers his flowers to Sheridan. Just proves what a nice guy he is. The bad points are I didn't like that it was over half an hour before D came on stage and I didn't like the scene where it was meant to be fanny's opening night on stage(the one just before her and Nick have an argument because he missed it) I think it was meant to look like fanny was involving the audience she's playing to but sometimes I felt like it was Sheridan just being herself talking to the real audience. That bit looked a bit pantoish to me and took away from it being a musical sad.gif all in all if I'm being completely honest in whether I would watch it again I'm not sure I would which I know I'll upset people by saying but it's just my opinion. Sorry but I don't feel it was his best maybe it would of been better live but I never got the chance sadly sad.gif

Posted by: SpamFritter 24th December 2018, 04:12 PM

Don’t apologise Polly.
I havent seen the film so I have no comment.
The musical was mainly about Fanny and taking part in a show.
I did enjoy the live performance but it was a while ago now so I cannot remember it that well.

Posted by: Polly 24th December 2018, 04:48 PM

My comments are purely based on the musical. I have seen the film but years ago.

Posted by: SpamFritter 24th December 2018, 04:53 PM

Yes, sorry for the cofusion. I was refering to the film/dvd of the musical with D and S in.
I said film as it was on the cinema and then tv. 😉

Posted by: Polly 24th December 2018, 05:10 PM

Maybe seeing live was better I'm just going off watching it on sky arts.

Posted by: Polly 24th December 2018, 10:20 PM

I did like the party scene where they are all dancing and darius is just standing in the corner smoking a cigar. That did make me laugh.

Next showing on Sky Arts is at 1.25 pm on Monday.

Really miss Joel Montague's Eddie. I really empathised with his character at the Savoy because emotions seem more intense in the theatre
