then the album also has the now-classic You've got a Friend, that would be covered later

didn't James Taylor record You've Got A Friend just before Carole King, or at least release it first, despite her having wrote the song?

and I know of course there were other cover versions later like McFly's which went to #1.

she wrote You've got a friend herself but never released it as single herself, but actually the story of the track is super interesting, I saw a doc about it once, thats' why I know, it's not like Im a fan or anything

so she wrote the song herself on her own, early 70s, but funnily she was inspired by a James Taylor song (Fire and Rain, I think), then James Taylor heard it in early 71 and liked it a lot, so actually what happened is that they both recorded it simultaneously even sharing the same musicians, carole for her album and James Taylor for his album. Carole released her album first in like March but this was not the single, which was It's too late/I feel the earth move. Then soon after Taylor released You've got a Friend as the lead single of his album (cannot recall the title) and that was a big hit, thats why she didn't released it, but sure helped her album sales too (she was like 14 or 15 weeks at #1 in US Albums)

sorry for the long story biggrin.gif

and there's also You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman which I'm sure has been covered on X-Factor tens of times.

I had no idea that was by Carole King!

disagree, their singles were pretty massive
usually dance music doesn't sell albums, so pretty surprising they did so well, but i think it's cos they included many big big hits
Moving on up was massive

I've corrected the Paolo Nutiini post but genuinely surprised the album was around for 141 with no real big hits on it.

Pencil Full Of Lead and Candy were both reasonably big and he was more of an album seller than a singles artist anyway. He got loads of Radio 2 airplay which would have really helped the album.
