BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ PREDICT: Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe

Posted by: Ryan741 Mar 21 2012, 07:06 PM

With the news that 'Call Me Maybe' by Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen has been put on Radio 1's C-List, it's time to start a prediction thread! biggrin.gif

It will be released in the UK on the 22nd of April after being removed from iTunes after charting at #130 on hype alone! But with hopefully good airplay on both radio and TV, where do you think 'Call Me Maybe' will chart, and where do you want it to chart?

Posted by: gooddelta Mar 21 2012, 07:07 PM

Predict: #1

Want: It's not my favourite song ever but I'd say #1 too, because hopefully it going to #1 will show radio playlisters that there's still a huge market for pure inoffensive pop, even from artists that are likely to become one hit wonders. And then the Scandipop revival can start!

Posted by: Ryan741 Mar 21 2012, 07:09 PM

For me, I really hope Carly can get #1 with this amazing song!!! I think it's got a good chance of getting there too as long as there is decent airplay plus she has support from Bieber she seems to be getting! This song should become a summer anthem! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Hayzayy Mar 21 2012, 07:11 PM

I'm a sucker for pure pop, but this is bad.
"Inoffensive" doesn't mean it has to be so flat and boring...

Maybe it will grow on me, but meh.

I'm gonna go for it and say #1. Love this song so much smile.gif

Posted by: Hitstastic Mar 21 2012, 07:14 PM

If Carly Rae Jepson does get to #1 then no doubt Ryan will get that BJSC feeling that I got when Gotye climbed to the top of the UK charts. biggrin.gif

I predict #1 for this track anyways. There must be a reason why they removed this from UK iTunes considering it was added around November 2011. So that, added with the fact it's getting a lot of video airplay and now Radio 1 support, it bodes well for the songs success.

Predict = #1

Want = I like this quite a bit actually and its been steadily rising up my chart thanks to its inclusion in BJSC. I'd therefore say top 5 personally (don't love it like I do Gotye's track) but I'm sure this is going to be a big hit.

Haha laugh.gif I was getting excited when she climbed into the top 50 on iTunes before it was deleted. If she got #1 I'd cry with excitement I think! tongue.gif w00t.gif

Number 1 for both.

It's surely going to be EVERYWHERE (it's already getting loadsof attention) by the time the release comes, and it's smashed in Australia, Ireland, Canada and the US, so the UK have to naturally follow tongue.gif I do really like it too, to think she only came 3rd in her year of Canadian Idol and she's the only act AFAIK to have even minor success anywhere bar Canada, let alone a massive hit like this!

Like Rich said, also to show radio there is a gap for this joyous pure pop, so artists like Tone Damli can get a break which fingers crossed eventually leads to a revival of Scandipop wub.gif Look Back by Tone Damli would surely be big if pushed anyway.

Predict - #1

Want - #1 - been loving this song since it was originally added on iTunes. Great track!

Posted by: Jáhq Mar 21 2012, 07:23 PM

Want it to be #1.

I'm not certain it will get to #1 but top 5 (or rather top 3) at least. After being playlisted I think it's going to be big if it manages #1 or not.

Wasn't Alyssa Reid from Canadian Idol as well? (And she only came 6th laugh.gif)

I've predicted top 5 for this, it does have a good chance at #1 but loads of songs that seemed like certain #1s have missed out recently so with this being held back it could suffer and peak at #2 or 3. (I'll still technically be right even if it does go to #1 anyway though, so tongue.gif)

I said I want top 40, it's okay but no more than that.

No tongue.gif she was on some awful cheap rip-off for younger singers called 'The Next Star' or something when she was about 12 and came 6th laugh.gif But yeah I guess that is probably more impressive that managed to get to the UK, but CMM is a HUGE hit worldwide.

Posted by: Silver Rocket Mar 21 2012, 07:53 PM

I'd say #1 unless there's something bigger around at the time to stop it.

Posted by: fchd Mar 21 2012, 09:39 PM

I really like this, but can't see it making the UK Top 10 I'm afraid

Posted by: C.W Mar 21 2012, 11:48 PM

I wouldn't be surprised at number 1, but I think top 5 is more likely, I can see it being a big seller but maybe one that never quite gets to number 1 (unless its a quiet release time of course)

I would much rather it went top 40 and that's it - way to sickly sweet and bland for me, and her face alone in that video is irritating pirate.gif

Posted by: Jason Mar 21 2012, 11:57 PM

Number 1/Number 1 cool.gif
She will be as big in the UK, as she is in Ireland now.

My Tone Damli radar brought me here!

I think Carly Rae will do rather well. It's a delightful little pop song.

I also have the same hope as Rich and Liam that this doing very well could lead to a Scandi Invastion lead by the GLORIOUS Tone Damli. (If you haven't heard her, youtube 'Look Back' and 'Butterflies' NOW)

Posted by: vidcapper Mar 22 2012, 08:39 AM

I predicted T40/#1, as, much as I like it, it doesn't seem like something that the teen-dominated singles market will go for.

Posted by: gooddelta Mar 22 2012, 11:54 AM

Surprised some people think that it won't go top ten.

It's hyped to the high heavens, has gone top 50 already on iTunes with no support before being removed, has been #1 on the iTunes video chart for ages, has Radio 1 backing, is being hammered on the music channels, is instant and and catchy and is being held back to maximise impact. What more does it need?

Quote me on this if you like because this is how certain I am that it's going to smash. If it fails to go top five in the UK I'll upload a cover of myself singing it on Youtube and post the link in this thread biggrin.gif

Posted by: JakeyShake Mar 22 2012, 11:58 AM

This and Let's Go are going to rule the charts over spring and early summer in my opinion and I can't wait biggrin.gif

Posted by: Umi Mar 22 2012, 07:47 PM

I think this will be a top 5 for sure with #1 possible but I think there's potential for the hype to die down by the time it is released. I'd like the song to go top 10 but it's not that amazing really. It just annoys me that this is being held back when it was clearly going to be an OA/OS smash. So stupid.

Also the video is charmingly shit. The ending is a nice surprise.

I love the video! Especially the ending! laugh.gif

#1 for both. It's cute, it's catchy.. been a favourite of mine for a few months now.
And I'm never ever getting over the fact she is 26!

Posted by: Envoirment Mar 23 2012, 10:54 PM

Bought this before they took it down happy.gif I think they should of kept it up though.

Anyways, I think it'll go top 10. I would like for it to go to #1, but I'm not too sure. What other songs will it be competing with?

P.S: The video is fantastic, especially the ending! wub.gif He can call me anytime laugh.gif

Posted by: CianS Mar 24 2012, 03:17 PM

#1 unfortunately......look at Ireland.

Posted by: Mervatron Mar 24 2012, 03:50 PM

Love the end of the video

Good song, i'll prob end up downloading it

I really want this to go to #1 but according to the release schedule, the new Calvin Harris/Ne'yo is out the same week which I can potentially beating it.

There are 4 fake versions of Call Me Maybe already on iTunes, and the Carly track is not out till 23 April, something tells me she going to miss the top spot, if the track was released this week she could have been in contention for a #1 surely.

Hardly any strong new releases for 2nd, 9th, & 16th April whatever is at #1 is going to stick around for a while apart from Usher on the 9th which seems he could be in contention for a #1 with a weak release week unless Gotye grabs another week or 2 in between he is still lingering in the top 3.

I do like the new Calvin Harris track, its got potential for a #1 single.

Exactly, I hope her label sees sense and releases it sooner, say 9th April. It'd still probably go to #1 if released earlier, especially as it now has radio 1 backing.

Bump - given we now have a definite release date.

FYI, she's already charted - at #130 on the 3/3/12 chart, due to accidentally being available that week, selling ~1.9k copies.

I don't think that was accidental, wasn't it available for some time before that and just shot up the chart that week after some sort of Jepsen-Bieber alliance was announced? (Then they inexplicably deleted it again within days).

Posted by: Hitstastic Mar 31 2012, 10:15 AM

Something like that. laugh.gif I got around #53 on iTunes before being removed so that'll account for the no. 130 entry a few weeks back.

I'm now hoping that 'We Are Young' by fun. featuring Janelle Monaé gets brought forward a couple of weeks too as both have massive potential to be UK #1 hits.

Posted by: HausofKubrick Mar 31 2012, 03:02 PM

I predicted #1, but want it to go top 5.
