Very Good
01 Norway - as good as Norway has been since 2019, this is the first time that they have given us something the jury will go for (discounting 2020).
02 Ukraine - it's very hard to separate this and Ulveham.

Good
03 Slovenia - the drama and Balkan-ness of it all.
04 Czechia - reminds me of Regina Spektor. Obviously the live version is a disaster. A lot of work to do.
05 Spain - this keeps reminding me of Denmark 2021. A decent effort
06 Ireland - right now this growing on me but I totally respect every creative decision that Bambie has made and look forward to watching how this evolves over the next few months

Not great
07 France - not terrible, just not very good
08 Malta - ok, I guess but does nothing for me.
09 Albania - the revamp should improve this. There's certainly something here to work with.
10 Luxembourg - oh dear. I hope they don't get an favours just because they came back.

Doomsday Blue is leading by a lot, such a bold and exciting entry, Ulveham and La Noia are really excellent efforts too.

I was critical of 'No Rules' when it won but as happens a fair bit with Finland, it's because UMK was so good that a middle-of-the-road winner is knocked a bit in my estimations, but against the current field of Eurovision entries it's definitely in the top half.

that said it's mostly good stuff so far this year, only really Czechia and Malta at the moment that are boring enough for me to not really pay too much attention to them.

A lot of average stuff released recently

Winner material

1 Norway
Still the only really special song since Ukraine started to fade
2 Belgium
The last 40 seconds really needs a revamp with him doing lots of vocally impressive stuff

Very Good

3 Ukraine
Still quite good and will obviously be great when they work on staging.

Quite Good

4 Poland
A cute song that I love right now but not the sort of stuff that has staying power in my affections.
5 Albania
This has shot up in my estimation to take the Balkan ballad of the year title. I am hopeful about the revamp.
6 Slovenia
No obvious hooks but lots of subtle ones.
7 Czechia
Quite obviously this is not for everyone but I really love the verses and pre-chorus.
8 Spain
Magnificent disco in a Denmark 2021 style.

Good

9 Ireland
Possibly a shock-non-qualifier given the strength of the first half of semi 1.
10 Finland
Will be trounced if Croatia go with Baby Lasagna. Not nearly as bad as some people are making out, though.

Average and Moldova deserves better.

Now that Ireland has woke up from its slumber, Germany is now the only country left that needs a renaissance. But we'll have to wait until 2025 for that.

There's really nothing here to enjoy for me.

Not a massively vintage year for me based on the studio versions but I've got the top 11 on repeat and the top five I'm hammering. I'm not going back hugely to the rest at this stage, but of course the live performances will shake this up as it always does. Czechia, Iceland, Australia and Germany feel surprisingly high!

I think I've listened to everything but there's a lot I can't really remember much about. My top 10 is something like this:

1. Croatia
2. Switzerland
3. Italy
4. Estonia
5. Netherlands
6. Ukraine
7. Greece
8. Sweden
9. Spain
10. Finland

But I have basically no opinion on the rest of them and I'm likely to change my mind to the ones I've not paid much attention to. Glad to see that my favourites are up there with the overall favourites!

Netherlands remains my favourite, just about, but Ireland is comfortably second now after that astonishing performance. Greece is the big climber in the top 10, love Marina! Serbia and France are sounding a lot better to me, although not songs I'd go out of my way to listen to, and Estonia is more fun than I gave it credit for before. Luxembourg and Germany joining the category of skips for me I'm afraid.
