Posted by: Mart!n 7th May 2016, 01:24 PM

Will Drake get a 5th week at the top, or will Calvin & Rihanna get the #1 spot next week. Coming close is the new release from Justin Timberlake with "Can't Stop The Feeling" from the DreamWorks Animation movie "Trolls". Dua Lipa is rising fast on iTunes with "Hotter Than Hell", should enter the top 40 chart also new peaks from DJ Snake feat. Bipolar Sunshine, Drake with "Controlla" and new tracks from Chris Brown and Radiohead.

Will Drake do the double again or will Skepta edge towards #1 with his new album release "Konnichiwa", battling against Radiohead which is officially confirmed in releasing their new studio album "Daydreaming" tomorrow. Other artists releasing new albums come from Gregory Porter "Take Me To The Alley", James Blake "The Colour In Anything", KAYTRANADA, Andy Black, ANOHNI and Jean Michel Jarre.

I would love Justin Timberlake to be no1 but think he will be top 5 instead.

Posted by: Dircadirca 7th May 2016, 01:56 PM

If they're indeed releasing their new album tomorrow, I imagine Radiohead have a decent shot at #1.

I reckon #3, behind Calvin and Drake, with Sia at 4 and Mike/Galantis/5H at 5 biggrin.gif

I really hope Little Mix's Hair can find a way into the top 10 this week!

Posted by: girl_from_oz 7th May 2016, 04:49 PM

If goes onto Itunes think Radiohead could go to number one, Beyonce physcial is number one on amazon and Prince Hit And Run Phase 2 is top ten on amazon

Posted by: SKOB 7th May 2016, 05:32 PM

Radiohead will get the #1 album if they release during this tracking week. They should do 50k easily.

Anohni's album is amazing, hope it'll go top ten.

100% confirmed Radiohead is out tomorrow
At noon New York time so afternoon in the UK

Curious to see how James Blake does
Very anticipated album
But not sure of hes famous enough
to do an OAOS like Beyonce ;-)

Both of his previous albums went Top 10, so I have no doubt that this one will with ease. Top 5 would be nice, though.

Also, not really any info from Mint Royale today (as of course someone would've posted any) but he has tweeted this regarding Dua Lipa: "Surprisingly all that Dua Lipa preorder tweeting doesn't seem to have enticed people to buy a song they hadn't heard at the time after all."

Skepta at #1 in the albums with 19K according to @MintRoyale. I suspect that he will be overtaken by both Radiohead and Beyonce.

Posted by: liamk97 8th May 2016, 07:35 PM

Yeah, he'll probably be more front-loaded than most, but that's still an impressive figure! Almost certainly Top 5 by the end of the week, behind Radiohead/Drake/Beyonce and maybe Prince.

Posted by: Hadji 8th May 2016, 07:48 PM

Skepta shifting 19k? Didn't think that was possible. Hope Radiohead will be the ones to overtake him instead of Beyoncé or Drake

Posted by: ___∆___ 8th May 2016, 09:37 PM

Really hope Craig David/Blonde can get a new peak now that the song has been reduced to 59p on iTunes, It's had an impressive chart run so far: 17-19-20-15-15-15-19

The physical of A Moon Shaped Pool, the Radiohead record, isn't out till June 17th.

Somewhat annoyingly you can't seem to buy the CD/Vinyl and download together anywhere at present.

Good point - you get an instant download if you buy the sixty quid boxed set off their website, but if you order the normal CD or LP you have to wait until it arrives in the post, or more likely pay for it separately. Which seems a bit greedy of them, actually.

Radiohead sold 16k last night according to @MintRoyale. James Blake and Anohni are at 13 and 14 (in that order), and they've apparently sold the exact same amount.

As for singles - Justin Timberlake is at 3, Ariana is 30 and Dua Lipa is 37.

16K in 5 hours. WOW! JB and Anohni should be in the top 3 along with Radiohead. What a 3 masterpieces that coming out at the same week. WEIRD!

Looking good for another Radiohead number 1 (their sixth in total) hopefully.
I am another fan that will wait until June to get the CD but will download in the meantime from a source (that will not count as a chart sale).

Lemar wasn't from the 90s. I wouldn't even categorise JT and Craig David as 90s artists either (although technically you could).

I hope Rihanna and Calvin can snatch the #1 this week. It's been too long since Rihanna had her last UK #1. She used to get one every year. sad.gif

I guess the early 2000s feel like an extension of the 90s though and that's why people are misremembering. I don't really feel the decade got going until about 2002/3. There's actually a name for that phenomenon but I can't remember what it is. This page talks about it though - http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TurnOfTheMillennium

In music terms I feel like it was late 2002 that the decade 'got going', and specifically I always think of albums like Justified and Stripped as pushing music out of the 90s and onto the next stage (and in the UK the advent of Girls Aloud).

2000 and 2001 certainly felt like 90s extension years music-wise to me while the first two thirds of 2002 were a strange bland nomansland (that 'safe' polished pop courtesy of Blue, Liberty X, Atomic Kitten etc) before everything turned on its head right at the end and ready for 2003.

I guess Craig David kicked off with Re-Rewind in 1999 and Justin was the driving force in 'N Sync so I can see why these two bring back 90s nostalgia. Lemar of course was on Fame Academy which started in late 2002 I think.

Is James Blake's album digital only at the moment as well? Disappointing showing for a Monday midweek if not, guessing he'll miss the top 20 sad.gif

Strong sales for Skepta's album, would have netted him an easy #1 if released a couple of weeks earlier.

Posted by: Mango 9th May 2016, 01:24 PM

I guess there's no chance of JT being Number 1 this week then. I'd rather Calvin/Rihanna did it, Drake has had his time at the top. Didn't think we'd see Little Mix in the Top 10 already. Nice to see Shawn/Camilla finally go Top 40 though smile.gif

Posted by: 360Jupiter 9th May 2016, 01:26 PM

What a great fresh chart. Rihanna patching up her album campaign with featured singles as usual, lots of great new entries on the album chart and I'm surprised by that early lead for Skepta (is there radio support? promo?)

Posted by: omrimayo 9th May 2016, 01:49 PM

Another week for Drake for sure, he's number 1 with the missing DATA for sure. JT top 3. Proud.

Posted by: pippa 9th May 2016, 01:52 PM

It would be wonderful if Little Mix can stay in the top 10 region with Hair. Would anyone have their album position?

The top 5 sales are wonderful in the albums so far, i would prefer to see Radiohead sitting in pole position but it now looks likely Beyonce will be returning to pole position.

Posted by: Mart!n 9th May 2016, 01:55 PM

I didn't know Skepta had a huge fanbase blink.gif mind you he only sold 3k yesterday, Radiohead should easily be at #1 tomorrow than with 15k on their first day of sales.

Even Calvin's reign at the top in the singles chart is going to be cut short. I would love for him to get a week at the top, Drake's track is getting a bit old for me.

Posted by: Fruity 9th May 2016, 01:58 PM

JT is performing at the FINAL of the Eurovision this year! They just announced it! It can have a HUGE impact for next week!!!

Posted by: Joe. 9th May 2016, 02:25 PM

I don't think Little Mix will hold on with streaming missing from Saturday and Sunday. I wouldn't be surprised if they landed at #11.

Posted by: Hadji 9th May 2016, 02:34 PM

Beyoncé still having strong sales. Hope Radiohead can pip Skepta to the post and I hope Calvin finally gets that #1 as his streaming is increasing and Drake's song is boring. Hope Shawn Mendes and will.i.am will actually make it to the top 40 this time but will will definitely make it next week as he's on Graham Norton this Friday

I hope Kiss It Better can sneak into the top 40 this week. I love the song but part of me thinks 'Consideration' would've made more of an impact since it would stand out on radio playlists (although whether or not radio would take to it is a different matter).

so many great albums out for fans of indie/alt music, Radiohead, James Blake, ANOHNI (Antony & The Johnsons side project), Ry X,... pity Ry X is not top 40, best album of 2016 imo...

I was thinking the same. Grime is just as popular as it was 10 years ago. Skepta is one of the biggest Grime artists so I'm not too shocked 25,000 people have bought his album. Lots of my London friends love him.

Yep. “Berlin” which got to #38 at Christmas in 2013.

'Berlin' was only a hit because of an advert too, it's not as if people were generally invested in the artist.

This Is What You Came For won't be #1 this week. Her lead over Drake is nowhere near big enough and he will take over by Friday, especially considering Spotify data is missing for the past few days and he's doing a lot more streams.

Now that Kiss it Better is finally getting some proper airplay, it's really picking up some steam, it's very steadily rising on iTunes and on Spotify now. If the iTunes increases over the last few days are enough to go by, it's looking to be another hit for her.

why are you that sure?

we didnt get positions 6 and 7 from the top10... and she's been around #15-#17 on iTunes with 8 compilations above her... and today she is at #12 with 5 compilations above which means she is at #5 in artists albums terms...

Im sure she can end the week inside the top10. Hope we get her position with todays update smile.gif

Great stuff - Radiohead have it in the bag !

Posted by: Bjork 11th May 2016, 03:13 PM

great for Radiohead, on the other hand James Blake is kinda underperforming and might miss the top 20 sad.gif

damit Drake retaking the #1 and with a big lead, I kinda thought (naively) that Calvin/Rihanna might have a chance since they have a big big lead on itunes and the lead is shrinking daily on Spotify

Shawn Mendes will surely miss in singles when streams are added but maybe some of those songs in the 41-50 region might sneak in, they are all doing ok on Spotify

Posted by: Hadji 11th May 2016, 03:17 PM

Calvin's streaming has increased from last week and has not left #1 on iTunes yet he's slipped to #2. Hope Gnash makes top 40 and that Drake's streaming decreases next week. Gutted Shawn Mendes won't make the top 40 but good to see that will.i.am will make it

I don't get the ongoing success for the song, especially when it's one he ripped off. It just seems these days that Spotify does more justice for a song than iTunes does. Maybe the hype with the Drake song is that every room in a club will play it. They played it in the r&b room on Saturday when I was out and they also played it in the dance room. At the end of the day, I'd rather see a one week #1 with massive sales than a six week #1 with poor sales

Drake is in no way selling poorly though tongue.gif He's not doing Robin Thicke/Avicii type numbers either but this isn't 2013 anymore.

his weekly sales totals:

#21 - 25,440
#1 - 72,615
#1 - 115,078
#1 - 128,535
#1 - 140,731

But my point is that nothing is having massive sales at the moment, so I don't see how that makes Drake's poor. It's all relative. The album market is much more frontloaded than the current singles market so that's not a good comparison.

Drakes streaming is going to slow down eventually the song is 3 to 4 weeks older besides Calvin/rihanna sold more in week 1 than drake did in his so they still have time I wouldn't completely write it off yet they still have a chance maybe next week or the week after if not maybe the could challenge for best selling number 2 kink.gif

#12; if everything sells at the same rate, she'll end up at #11. Andy Black will fall out the Top 10 and Justin will replace him (bare in mind he'll also have missing streams that will be added on top). Jean Michel Jarre looks like he has sold enough already to keep a Top 10 position, so the only way Adele looks likely to get back in is if Prince's Purple Rain drops.
