Poor George Ezra extends his weeks lost record with Listen To The Man further to 5 , The Script become the first act to have two songs lose multiple top 40 weeks!

W/E 17/01/15

GAINS:
Calvin Harris feat. John Newman - Blame (48 -> 31) [1st week gained in 2015, 3rd overall]
Ella Henderson - Ghost (45 -> 38) [1st week gained in 2015, 2nd overall]
John Legend - All Of Me (47 -> 37) [1st week gained]
Mr Probz - Waves (42 -> 35) [1st week gained in 2015, 9th overall]

LOSSES:
Ella Henderson - Yours (29 -> 43) [1st week lost in 2015, 2nd overall]
*James Bay - Scars (37 -> 63) [1st week lost]
*Tulisa - Living Without You (25 -> 44) [1st week lost]
Vance Joy - Riptide (39 -> 42) [1st week lost, overall +4/-1 = 3 weeks gained]

Oh dear at the differences for Tulisa and James Bay there. Quite surprised on the other hand to see Vance Joy top 40 on sales after he gained several weeks from streaming last year.

Posted by: zenon 11th January 2015, 10:14 PM

Waves extends record of weeks gained to 9 and Scars has the biggest negative difference to date with 26 places to miss a top 40 week and also the lowest ever position on the combined chart at #63 to be still top 40 on sales.

VERY good switches this week (although if Rae Morris swapped with Ed Sheeran it would've been perfect).

Posted by: zenon 21st January 2015, 03:25 PM

Kid Inc at #21 has now beaten Henry Krinkle's record of highest sales position to yet miss out on the combined top 40!

Rather Be and Sing now joint second with Hideaway with most weeks gained.

New record then for gap in places?

Yep. And this time, CHVRCHES have lost the record for good (I think).

Posted by: zenon 28th January 2015, 03:20 PM

A record equaling seven changes due to streaming this week with four of them lost having not been top 40.

Rather Be and Sing now both outright joint second in most weeks gained with seven weeks apiece.

Nathan Grimsdale as well as the record Dobbo points out also breaks the record for the lowest position on the combined chart to be still top 40 on sales at #67!

LOSSES

Oliver Heldens feat. KStewart - Last All Night (Koala) (30-48)
Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel - Make Me Smile (Come Up And See Me) (39-72)
Jeremih feat. YG - Don't Tell 'Em (40-51)

Make Me Smile would have broken the negative difference record had it not been a number one in 1975). It is also the first song to be top 40 sales alone but not top 70 overall.

Posted by: zenon 2nd February 2015, 10:56 PM

Make Me Smile is still the negative difference record to miss the overall top 40 in a single week.

that's amazing for David Guetta! ohmy.gif Glad he's such a hit on streaming because Dangerous deserves all the weeks it can get. Would prefer to see the back of the other 3 though. Plus it would've been hilarious to see 'Bitches N Marijuana' go officially top 40.

Absolutely horrible losses this week cry.gif

The fact that shake it off, blank space and lighthouse all missed out (3 of the 4 best songs since 2014) and the amazing psycho also missed out OVER BLOODY ALL OF ME is actually heartbreaking cry.gif

Taylor Swift - Blank Space (26-46)
Taylor Swift - Shake It Off (29-49)
Iggy Azalea f/Jennifer Hudson - Trouble (32-52)
Muse - Psycho (38-55)

I only condone "Heroes (We Could Be)" gaining a week tbh.

Posted by: popchartfreak 23rd March 2015, 12:55 PM

so that's the first bonafide UK top 40 sales hit denied a Top 75 place - Chic: not only a great record, it would have extended a chart run of top 40 hits to an amazing 37 years.

Lower down we have losses like madonna's Ghosttown and many others.

Streaming is bad for the music business, it's bad for new and old acts and it's only good for a limited few huge records which outstay their welcome, appear to be bigger than they are (mostly it's the "albums" effect of huge albums artists Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran and the like). yes people used to play huge albums for years after they were big, and the tracks often under-achieved in the singles chart, but now it's tipped the balance completely the other way and they just never go away, partly thanks to sales as well as streaming, but the pathetic state of the Official Singles Chart is entirely due to streaming.

Have I mentioned how much I loathe it?

Thought so laugh.gif

Alex Adair - Make Me Feel Better (38-45)
Chic feat. Nile Rodgers - I'll Be There (39-68)

Shake It Off breaks Listen To The Man's record, having now lost 6 weeks. In these 14 changes, only Lips Are Movin' and Doing It gaining are ones I'm really pleased about.

Posted by: ThePensmith 29th March 2015, 07:18 PM

So annoying re: 'Seasons'. Hopefully the digital EP being out now will help it get low top 40 at least next week but still.

surprised Shake It Off is STILL getting top 40 weeks on sales, though I guess it not being up for streaming is gonna make fans download it. Would be having a top 40 run as long as Chandelier if it was still available on streaming I guess

(38) 46 Philip George - Wish You Were Mine
(39) 48 Tough Love - So Freakin' Tight

(44) 25 Conor Maynard - Talking About
(52) 37 Sam Smith feat John Legend - Lay Me Down
(56) 26 Markus Feehily - Love Is a Drug
(60) 39 Mumford and Sons - Snake Eyes
(62) 40 Jessie Ware - Say You Love Me

Style makes history by being the first top 20 sales entry not to be top 40 overall. ohmy.gif

Love Is A Drug ties Only One. Style becomes first song to be top 20 sales but not top 40 overall. Original Lay Me Down gains, Comic Relief Lay Me Down losses. So Freakin' Tight gains ohmy.gif: and Say You Love Me, which has re-entered for whatever reason, loses another top 40 week. And Conor does exactly like Tulisa did (#25 sales, #44 overall)

David Guetta losing a song and gaining a song in the top 40. I don't think this is the first time an artist has lost a week and gained a week at the same time

Posted by: ¡bré! 10th May 2015, 06:35 PM

'Trap Queen' now takes the new title of only song to make the top 40 without ever making the sales top 40, though like 'Lean On' I expect it wil go top 40 on sales in the next few weeks anyway. Can only be a matter of time before there is a real top 40 hit that never makes it on sales.

Determined to catch up with chart mod duties this week so HOPEFULLY I will get the first post updated again in the next few days ~

Shame M.O., Disclosure and Snoop all missed the top 40 officially sad.gif Although I expect the first official Disclosure single will smash into the chart.

Marlon Roudette - When The Beat Drops Out (47-40)

LOSSES

Nicki Minaj feat. Beyoncé - Feelin Myself (37-64)
T-Wayne - Nasty Freestyle (39-42)

We have horrors on both sides, but overall the gains are better than the losses this week.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 24th May 2015, 06:11 PM

Putting style in for ayo would have made that a great list of gainers (and feelin myself for thinking out loud even though the former isn't that good)

Anyway that's week 5 or 6 lost for style now- imagine it will miss one more week but that will be it

Posted by: Dobbo 24th May 2015, 06:11 PM

Nasty Freestyle so unlucky twice!

69) 40 Loic Nottet - Rhythm Inside

79) 37 Taylor Swift - Shake It Off

Five would be new entries denied this week!

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 31st May 2015, 06:12 PM

Swap style/shake if off/ship to wreck for ayo/thinking out loud/the nights or GDFR and that would be a fantastic week for gains.
Yay for Tove especially cheer.gif

GDFR also gained a week smile.gif

Also to point out, a record equalling eight changes, Chandelier extending most weeks gained record further to 11 and the first week in which two top 40 sales entries miss the top 75 combined both by who else but Taylor!

Posted by: rob_s 31st May 2015, 06:28 PM

How annoying that lots of new songs missed out in comparison to the gains this week. All should really FOAD now except Tove Lo.

Wildest dreams and see you again missing out sad.gif Both are such amazing songs and a million times better than the other 6!

Posted by: jafetsigfinns 12th September 2015, 10:11 AM

I take it Wildest Dreams is the first song to miss out of the Top 40 officially while being in the Top 20 on sales?

Correct!

I'd happily swap The Weeknd and Sam Feldt for Ella Eyre and Crowded House

Posted by: zenon 18th September 2015, 11:09 PM

Help Is Coming also becomes the first overall top 75 failure to be still a top 40 sales success, six new entries denied is also a record.

68) 40 Chris Brown - Zero
74) 35 Whitney Houston - I Didn't Know My Own Strength

A record 11 changes this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also

* A record eight new entries denied by steaming,
* Wildest Dreams at 19 is the highest sales position yet to miss the overall top 40
* Lean On at 22 is the highest position with an extra week gained despite missing out on sales.
* First time two top 20 sales entries in the same week have missed the combined top 40

Posted by: Dobbo 25th September 2015, 07:47 PM

8 new entries? I see 6 there, but anyway that's an impressive number of changes! Plus the majority of swaps are positive ones (I only really like Stylo G, Nero & Duke Dumont of the misses) so glad that streaming is doing it's job & things are ticking over nicely.

Company the biggest gainer ever so far? Certainly the first non-sales top 75 to be officially top 40 right? (Excluding songs like All About That Bass which weren't on sale).

Posted by: JosephStyles 21st November 2015, 02:32 PM

^ correct on the first count, Dobbo! Felix Jaehn's Ain't Nobody was #77 on sales a few weeks ago however, and was still top 40 overall, so not the first non-sales top 75 to make the top 40!

Shouldn't Pia Mia - "Do It Again" be on +2 if it gained 3 weeks but lost 1 week?

Posted by: JosephCarey 6th December 2015, 06:19 PM

Indeed it should, thanks!

I think When We Were Young is the first sales top 40 to not be top 100 overall? ohmy.gif Correct me if I'm wrong of course!

First post also now up to date.

I am a fan of streams being included but if I could choose I'd have the 'losses' in the top 40 this week. Four great dance tunes + Wizzard heart.gif

Posted by: Hadji 12th December 2015, 03:26 PM

I'd swap Calvin Harris, Ellie Goulding, Major Lazer and R City for Kygo, Martin Solveig, David Guetta and Blinkie

Sigma and 99 Souls need the asterisk removed as they're now officially in the top 40

Thanks!

I'm new to streaming, but it appears to have an advantage over pay-as-you-go online radio playlists checked off by paying clients. Am I correct in this assumption?

Posted by: zenon 16th December 2015, 05:02 PM

Lean On is the lowest all time sales position outwith anything Bieber to be still top 40 offically.

Posted by: Hadji 18th December 2015, 04:03 PM

"Lean On" now ties with "Chandelier" for most weeks gained

And is likely to stretch it's outright lead by at least two weeks with the Xmas/New Year boost it and other big singles of the year will.

grr at 'when the bassline drops' missing out on streaming..

Posted by: zenon 19th December 2015, 10:52 PM

As well as most ever weeks gained, Lean On also has the all time lowest sales position that is not a Bieber song and still being top 40 combined.

All time leaderboard needs to be updated too.

First post updated biggrin.gif

Posted by: Hadji 26th December 2015, 07:47 PM

I'd swap Calvin Harris for Craig David on this one. "Where Are Ü Now" is close to tying with "Lean On" and "Chandelier" for most weeks gained

Posted by: mdh32 26th December 2015, 10:27 PM

Another week missed for Craig David sad.gif

Times like this when I really hate the streaming effect.

Posted by: zenon 26th December 2015, 10:49 PM

As this week is the last chart of the year, Lean On is this year's most weeks with streaming title with 11. Shake It Off is 2015's most weeks without streaming wooden spoon with 10.

Posted by: JosephCarey 26th December 2015, 11:25 PM

Next week's chart is announced on New Year's Day but it comprises a full 7 days of sales that took place in 2015 so it'll still count to this thread heehee.gif I'll start the new thread the week after then! But Shake It Off will keep its title regardless and Lean On will either keep its title or share it with Where Are Ü Now.

Posted by: Mateja 26th December 2015, 11:45 PM

You should consider making a "Changes in top 40 weeks due to sales" thread instead since apparently streaming is now the main/biggest source of "chart sales". It's only going to get worse for actual sales.

Posted by: JosephCarey 26th December 2015, 11:48 PM

It's not that big a shift yet though tongue.gif I personally find it quite interesting to see and I imagine others do too.

Posted by: JosephMendes 2nd January 2016, 05:22 PM

Last update for the year (the chart date is in 2016 but all sales/streams took place in 2015 so it still goes to this thread, I'll make a new thread for 2016 soon!)

07/01/2016

LOSSES
32 (43) Silentó - Watch Me (Whip / Nae Nae)
34 (42) David Guetta feat. Sia and Fetty Wap - Bang My Head
38 (52) Craig David & Big Narstie - When The Bassline Drops
39 (44) KDA feat. Tinie Tempah and Katy B - Turn The Music Louder (Rumble)
40 (47) Charlie Puth feat. Meghan Trainor - Marvin Gaye

GAINS
42 (33) Ellie Goulding - On My Mind
45 (40) Fetty Wap - Trap Queen
51 (34) Rudimental feat. Ed Sheeran - Lay It All On Me
78 (39) Skrillex, Diplo & Justin Bieber - Where Are Ü Now
xx (37) Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You

And the first post is updated for the last time!

Posted by: Dan_ 2nd January 2016, 05:27 PM

BOO at 'Bang My Head' losing all of these chart weeks. So close to getting a top 40 peak too, I hope it can do it soon.

Posted by: JosephMendes 2nd January 2016, 05:35 PM

I'd say it still stands a chance this week! Would be nice to see it make the top 40, not a Guetta classic but it's not bad at all.

Posted by: Hadji 2nd January 2016, 06:32 PM

"Where Are Ü Now" now ties with "Lean On" and "Chandelier" for most weeks gained and will most likely beat the record

Posted by: zenon 6th January 2016, 04:25 PM

All I Want For Christmas Is You first non-Bieber track to succeed in the overall top 40 whilst missing out on top 100 sales.

Posted by: Hadji 8th January 2016, 04:17 PM

"Where Are Ü Now" and "Lean On" have both extended their leads to 12 weeks gained

Posted by: JosephMendes 8th January 2016, 04:18 PM

They'll be in the new thread tongue.gif I'll lock this one for now.
