I had one of his songs in my potentials list for a while - the John Summit-esque “Euphoria” - but I hadn’t gotten to his score/theatrical stuff until he produced for the Tetris movie (and by proxy Aespa’s “Hold On Tight”), this is another great example of his theatrical stuff being top tier wub.gif

BJSC 161

Neon Indian - Slumlord

2nd Single from Vega Intl. Night School

Thoughts: So, my entry for BJSC 161 is Neon Indian's masterpiece 'Slumlord'. The song is my oldest entry to date (released in 2015) and has immediately become my favourite entry to date! The video is also pure excellent biggrin.gif

Background Info

Neon Indian

Neon Indian is an American electronic music band formed in 2008 by musician Alan Palomo. Their varied sound combines elements of synth-pop, chillwave (RIP), and indie rock, creating a nostalgic musical experience. With their debut album "Psychic Chasms" released in 2009, Neon Indian gained significant recognition and critical acclaim (Including a fantastic review from Pitchfork). On Spotify, Neon Indian have a large following, with millions of streams across their discography. Their most popular songs include "Polish Girl" (A Unknown Pleasures entry last year), "Deadbeat Summer," and "Annie" (A former BJSC entry), which have collectively garnered tens of millions of plays on the platform. Their sophomore album and their 3rd album were both commercially successful, with both charting on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

BJSC 161 Results

In BJSC 161 we sent Alan Palomo's Neon Indian following his disappointing DNQ in BJSC 158. The 2015 single 'Slumlord' became our best performing entry to date, finishing 6th! It also finished a bit higher than Neon Indian's last BJSC entry in 2015 (It was 'Annie' which finished 16th).

Thank you for voting for us: Rolloland, Neliönoir, The Spodic Empire, Singerpurear, Danæviia, Jadakissnia, Scotland 2, Pestolia, Zanmatony, Fljótavík, Utopia, Lookylion, Kluminican Republic, Aelandor, Bronzil, FARC, Republic of Adonia, Persephonia!

Shoutout to Terra Avium & Trifoski for the bronzes!

Massive thanks to Cumulonimbia & Aesthetica for the silvers!

And big up East Rukahavian, Skall & Varakë for the golds heart.gif!!!!!!!!

BJSC 162

Hunnygloss - Crimson

Non-Album Single

Thoughts: So, my entry for BJSC 162 is from the self-defined "singer/slayer" queen Hunnygloss! 'Crimson' is the first hyperpop song that Abeltesfayeton has sent to BJSC, and what an absolute BOP it is!

Background Info

Hunnygloss

Hunnygloss is a genre-fusing musician and creative based in Manchester, UK. Alternative in nature, the Hunnygloss sound is a merge of unpredictable production, lyrics and style with the intention of empowering others to have fun exploring and expressing themselves without fear of judgement. Unfortunately, there are only five songs that Hunnygloss has released on Spotify sad.gif Out of all the musicians I have sent to BJSC, Hunnygloss possibly has the biggest chance to make it big. Let's hope so.

BJSC 162 Results

In BJSC 162 we sent Hunnygloss' mega-banger 'Crimson' in the hope that we could score our 5th consecutive qualifier. Thankfully, we did qualify with the joint 2nd best (joint with 1991's 'Chant' finish for us in a semi ever! However, the final wasn't as rewarding. We came 26th, a very solid position albeit our 2nd lowest result to date in the final.

Thank you for voting for us: Trifoski, Ajanaeda, Dobago, Cumulonimbia, Pestolia, Kathaldazia, New Lexico, Cor Lupus, Neliönoir, Bronzil, POPHub, Hendinia, Skall, Aesthetica, Wholune, Jupiterdonia, Land Of DW, Jadakissnia & Freidland!

Massive thanks to Fljótavík for the silver!

And big up Ingermanlandia for the gold heart.gif!!!!!!!!

BJSC 163

Dog Race - It's The Squeeze

Non-Album Single

Thoughts: So, my entry for BJSC 163 is from London five-piece Dog Race with their latest single 'It's The Squeeze'. This is the first majorly alt-influenced song that Abeltesfayeton have ever sent to BJSC so let's hope that we'll salvage a decent result from this!

Background Info

Dog Race

Dog Race are a five-piece band hailing from London. They have recently risen to critical acclaim following the release of their latest single (and 3rd overall) 'It's The Squeeze'. The band's merits have been recognised on an international scale, from BBC Radio 1's Future Sounds host Jack Saunders to the influential American music critic Anthony Fantano (theneedledrop). Over the past year or so, the band have supported the likes of former BJSC winners Fat Dog and BJSC alumni Maruja on their tours.

BJSC 163 Results

In BJSC 163 we sent Dog Race's instantly loveable breakthrough single 'It's The Squeeze', hoping that we could score another high finish in commemoration of Abeltesfayeton's 10th contest anniversary in BJSC! We qualified, but barely. We scraped through to the final by one single point thanks to a Sovarasman mealworm heart.gif We actually did pretty well in the final despite the underwhelming semi performance! We finished 12th which is our 3rd highest position ever and on 214 points (only two points off of the top 10), our 2nd highest amount of points ever received.

Thank you for voting for us: Suedeonia, Conoria, Summericia, Kluminican Republic, Bronzil, Ajanaeda, Sovarasma, Fljótavík, Jupiterdonia, Skall, Jadakissnia, Terra Avium, Scotland 2, Nelönoir, Séyetana & Yobnedorica!

Hugely grateful to Danæviia & Persephonia for the bronzes!

Massive thanks to Trifoski, Cumulonimbia, POPHub & Kylienips for the silvers!

And big up Pestolia for the gold heart.gif!!!!!!!!
