It has had me wondering if season 12's original edit also was this transparent & only rejigged to give other queens storylines & confessionals AFTER the hasty taking-out-Sherry re-edit.

Off topic I know but I've seen two conflicting accounts, one is that Sherry was meant to have a hero edit with Jaida and Gigi as overconfident villains, and another is that Sherry had a villain edit but an interesting/entertaining one where she was a big character through the season. Both interesting, it goes to show how even though the season only happened one way, things could have been wildly different depending on how things were edited!

I didn’t read anything about Jaida being a villain- I read that the narrative was going to be a Gigi vs Sherry almost the whole season with a new school vs old school kind of arc. Jaida then follows as the underdog, dark-horse kind of contestant with Crystal completing the top 4 as the quirky one with only one challenge win so without a chance of winning almost at all compared to Gigi and Sherry who had NO bottom 2 placements so we’re sure to be the top 2 of the season. |

Yes, the version that I'm aware of - and what caused the NEED for re-editing and creating new storylines on the fly - had Sherry as the bumbling, well-meaning, well-liked heroine narrator of the series, with Gigi being the pretty, overconfident fashion girl constantly eating into Sherry's comedy/acting lane.
In my reading of the season from what I've gathered from the fandom, Jaida was pretty clearly the third choice for the win after those two & I imagine in the original season 12 would've had a competent A'Keria Davenport/Trinity Taylor edit, being strong in some areas, sometimes unexpectedly, but REALLY weak in others e.g. her comedy challenge. |

I just can't see Sherry as a winner, even not being edited out she had a weaker run towards the end despite starting strong. I actually think it would have come off better for Gigi, I feel like in this case, losing a big character in Sherry allowed Jaida and Crystal to soak up some of the available airtime and Jaida could emerge with her journey to snatch the win. Obviously they couldn't change wins and track records after filming, but I think two wins and no bottoms with a decent edit and I guess Sherry could have won. Like I said it goes to show how much editing can change the season, and it's the same here as it's one of those seasons where they're making it obvious how it will go.

I know it's easy to say because it's what happened, but to me it feels like there couldn't have been any other winner than Jaida! I wasn't quite expecting it to happen but when it did, it felt so right.
Gigi: insanely talented, but just a bit cold. She might have won 4 challenges but I just didn't feel that oomph or spark a winner should have? Sherry had she not been exposed: a bit too campy, she could turn a look but just didn't feel like the type of queen who would win Crystal: wonderfully unique and an absolute sweetheart but again didn't feel like the type who would or could win |

Gigi winning the final challenge was purely because she had the best track record as well which seemed odd
|
