Hey there BJ. The deal is I've lurked over the forums for a LOOOONG time, and even after making an account many many months ago, I posted twice and thought 'no, back to lurking, I'm too lazy to sign in', however after discovering the Personal Charts section and with all the different End of Year/Of The Decade charts, I thought it'd be kinda fun to make my own - despite how painful it was to have to miss off certain songs for whatever reason, and after reading quite a lot of comments, some choices might be rather questionable - some maybe songs by loved artist, but not the single you thought SHOULD make it, or others more obscure that you might not have heard of, with YT vids + probably a general commentary with each post. Um, first for twenty that just missed out, but are all what I still consider brilliant songs:
101. Placebo - Running Up That Hill. 102. Jem - They. 103. The xx - Crystallized. 104. Solange - Sandcastle Disco. 105. Something Corporate - Konstantine. 106. Anberlin - The Unwinding Cable Car. 107. The Last Shadow Puppets - The Age of Understatement. 108. Missy Elliot - Lose Control (ft Ciara + Fatman Scoop) 109. The Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Young Adult Friction. 110. Cut Copy - Lights & Music. 111. The Crystal Method - Name of the Game. 112. Cat Power - He War. 113. Shiny Toy Guns - Ricochet. 114. Maps - When You Leave. 115. Jay-Z - Takeover. 116. LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum. 117. Foals - Cassius. 118. Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away. 119. Frightened Rabbit - Fast Blood. 120. Ladyhawke - My Delirium. 100 singles and 83 artists (well, unless I've counted wrong.) Beginning shortly if you're interested! |

100: Garbage - Tell Me Where It Hurts.
99: Kings of Leon - The Bucket. 98: Kevin Devine - (Time to Burn) Another Bag of Bones. 97: N.A.S.A. - Gifted (ft. Kanye West, Santogold + Lykke Li) 96: Bon Iver - Skinny Love. ------------------------ ------------------------ Kicking the countdown off then I'd say are 5 songs which are fairly varied. Having to rank Garbage - who have had MUCH better songs which aren't eligible for the count at 100 is quite sad, but I still do really like 'Tell Me Where it Hurts'. KoL at 99 with a song which is not Use Somebody or Sex on Fire?! Eh, yes, but in the end 'The Bucket' has had much more longevity for my ears than the aforementioned, deserves it's place. Kevin Devine and Bon Iver both enter with very mellow, but nonetheless great singles, 'For Emma, Forever Ago' growing on me in particular as of late. DJ duo N.A.S.A snatch spot 97 with one of the earwormy-est chorus' of the year courtesy of Lykke Li, with Kanye and Santogold - who both will have entries higher up the chart later on not doing any harm at all. |

Getting back on with it: 95: Fleet Foxes - Mykonos. 94: Hot Chip - One Pure Thought. 93: Richard X - Finest Dreams (ft Kelis). 92: No Doubt - New. 91: Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating. ---------------------- ---------------------- The soothing Fleet Foxes enter with 'Mykonos' first at 95. Funnily enough after loving the Sun Giant EP, I still haven't downloaded their self-titled which I had been meaning to do for a while. My like for Hot Chip has grown steadily since 'Ready to the Floor', which I wasn't into much at first, however I was won over by 'One Pure Thought'. 'Finest Dreams' is often a forgotten one I feel when talking about Kelis, but it is by far one of my favourite singles with her name on it. Expect another entry from her in the chart. No Doubt also enter with the first of their two entries at 92 with 'New', probably one of their most rock-leaning singles which I still love today. Gwen has two solo entries and another song with the band all much higher up. Finally we have Crystal Castles' 'Courtship Dating', and whereas it's not my favourite off the damn fine 2008 self-titled (that would go to 'Vanished'), it is definitely up there as a highlight, and it seems as if Timbaland agrees with me if 'Ayo Technology' is anything to go by. Any of these new entries do anything for you? |

90: Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks.
89: Maria Mena - All This Time. 88: Low vs Diamond - Heart Attack. 87: Justin Timberlake - My Love (ft T.I) 86: Eve - Tambourine. ---------------------- ---------------------- Grizzly Bear seem to have ensnared everyone in over the course of this year, from Jay-Z and the Knowles sisters to pretty much every music critic on the internet, as 'Two Weeks' makes my chart at 90. 'All This Time' features a suitably vulnerable vocal from Maria Mena which sells the song more than anything. Low vs Diamond's entry, 'Heart Attack' I adore from the lyrics to the simple but effective accompanying music video. Despite originally much preferring the more instant 'Sexyback' upon release, 'My Love' has grown on me a LOT 3 years too late and so warrants inclusion on this list. Eve's 'Tambourine' possesses in my opinion, one of the most ruthlessly catchy hooks I've heard, and re-discovering it thanks to the powers of Shuffle only solidify this. RECAP: 86: Eve - Tambourine. 87: Justin Timberlake - My Love (ft T.I). 88: Low vs Diamond - Heart Attack. 89: Maria Mena - All This Time. 90: Grizzly Bear - Two Weeks. 91: Crystal Castles - Courtship Dating. 92: No Doubt - New. 93: Richard X - Finest Dreams (ft Kelis). 94: Hot Chip - One Pure Thought. 95: Fleet Foxes - Mykonos. 96: Bon Iver - Skinny Love. 97: N.A.S.A - Gifted (ft Kanye West, Santogold + Lykke Li). 98: Kevin Devine - (Time To Burn) Another Bag of Bones. 99: Kings of Leon - The Bucket. 100: Garbage - Tell Me Where It Hurts. |
