BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ The future of Big Brother UK

Posted by: Dart 20th January 2018, 09:59 PM

This thread is to discuss the future of Big Brother UK.

Updates...

29/11/2018: Rylan on Twitter, “Big Brother is always watching....”

26/02/2019: Official BBUK pages set up on Facebook and Twitter.

01/02/2020: Channel 4 reportedly in top secret talks to revive Celebrity Big Brother to help ‘fallen stars’.

Posted by: Liаm 20th January 2018, 10:04 PM

Not gonna believe it until they acc say something because remember the series that was gonna be abroad like Love Island that never happened? The papers chat so much shit lmao

Posted by: JosephSivan 20th January 2018, 10:05 PM

Yeah I'll wait for official confirmation as always but it'll be a huge shame if so.

Posted by: The Snake 20th January 2018, 10:12 PM

It would be a shame I haven't watched it this series (as I have been on Buzzjack and playing computer games too much laugh.gif ) but I thought the last series of CBB was more interesting than the snorefest (imo) I'm A Celebrity has become recently.

Posted by: Dart 20th January 2018, 10:15 PM

I just PRAY that MTV don’t take over... they also air CBB. It would turn into trashy Geordie Shore.

Posted by: Martyn 20th January 2018, 10:20 PM

Hasn't this series of CBB being doing better than any for years?

Posted by: Dart 20th January 2018, 10:21 PM

The Sun are reporting it too, who are always 100% correct with everything Big Brother related...

Posted by: MvG501 20th January 2018, 10:23 PM

It'll be a shame if this was to happen but it's not a surprise for me that it could be axed.

Posted by: Seinfeld 20th January 2018, 11:05 PM

It should have been axed years ago tbh. 2004-2006 was TV gold though.

Posted by: HarryEzra 20th January 2018, 11:07 PM

Honestly, I wouldn't be too surprised.

Posted by: jase. 20th January 2018, 11:20 PM

Watched every single series since 2001 so I'm heartbroken if this is true cry.gif

Posted by: Dart 20th January 2018, 11:29 PM

Yeah it’s definitely not surprising at all

That would make a decision to axe it a bit weird at this time, if it is now doing better in the ratings!

It feels so much better but sadly ratings are still falling... worst CBB ever in terms of ratings.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner 20th January 2018, 11:50 PM

It was overdue an axing when Channel 4 finally killed it.

I would have imagined that was unlikely given that they are both owned by Viacom. Otherwise I'd imagine the headline would have been about it moving rather than axing

Posted by: Klaus 21st January 2018, 12:06 AM

Yeh this is not official confirmation but I’ve been fully expecting it anyway. Ratings have been sliding, Love Island is exploding and the channel controller hates it.

We’ve been given 21 (?) more series of BB & CBB that no one expected to get when the first axe fell so I’m very grateful of them, even if they are complete varying scales of quality.

Posted by: Dart 21st January 2018, 12:47 AM

There are a lot of rumours going round that it’s just a publicity stunt by C5. Probably just a lot of false hope going on.

I can see a channel move again.

Posted by: No Sleeep 21st January 2018, 03:03 AM

I really hope this isn't true, I'm having flashbacks to 2009 lol. I don't mind if they axe the civilian series but CBB is still so good and has a lot of life left, why would they axe that? sad.gif

Posted by: Klaus 21st January 2018, 08:45 AM

There’s no other channel it can go to, it’s an expensive show so thr only real possibilities are channels owned by ITV (who have Love Island now) and Channel 4 (...)

Posted by: Dart 21st January 2018, 09:46 AM

BBC x

Posted by: Klaus 21st January 2018, 10:05 AM

Yes, it will fit perfectly on BBC4

Posted by: mdh 21st January 2018, 11:03 AM

as if BBC would spend our money on big brother lmao

Posted by: Scene 21st January 2018, 11:42 AM

ITV or Channel 4 should claim it and follow the US/Canada format. Rename it Big Brother: The Game or something.

Don't know why Love Island is so popular, never watched it really apart from the old celebrity Love Island which seemed rather boring tbh, but its just a very low brow dating reality show as far as I am aware judging from the title and sounds AWFUL. Are there any tasks in it apart from people kissing and occasionally appearing to have s*x? laugh.gif

People have such dull and uninteresting lives they now have to live their (non-existent) love/sex lives vicariously through others appearing on television shows.

And judging for the promotional picture for the last series, its all people that look like models in it for example all all the men have extremely toned upper bodies!

QUOTE
However, rumours have spread that Channel 5 and Endemol – who produce the show – are in discussions about its fate.

Now, Daily Star Online can revealed that Big Brother isn't set to go anywhere, and instead there's a plan to save the series.

Rather than getting the chop, Channel 5 are set to continue to air the show, but they want to pay less for it.

Posted by: Klaus 7th February 2018, 11:41 PM

That completely makes sense, they can’t pay the same for it as they did before as it’s getting nowhere near the same ratings. However, it is their biggest ‘online’ show and they don’t have enough strong shows to fill the gap it would leave.

I think scrapping the summer CBB is the best move to save money. 3 series a year is tiresome even for superfans and just creates a fatigue. The summer CBBs are always the worst.

Posted by: Liаm 8th February 2018, 12:12 AM

TBH it would be easy to save money, perhaps cut the summer series because honestly ice the last time I really enjoyed the summer series laugh.gif And then stop paying through the nose for people like Ray J who give 0 entertainment.

Posted by: jafetsigfinns 9th February 2018, 09:43 AM

For me the civilian BB >>>> Celebrity BB so I'd much rather they cut the Summer CBB and spend more time and money on the civilian BB smile.gif

Posted by: jase. 9th February 2018, 05:01 PM

C5 love the CBB's tho so I can't imagine them cutting the summer version. One thing I do think they'll do is drastically reduce the length of the civ version - perhaps to even 3/4 weeks :/

EDIT: Can the thread title be changed? laugh.gif

“ITV is one of a number of major television groups considering acquiring Endemol Shine Group“

Interesting...

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ 22nd April 2018, 12:49 PM

Big Brother’s BOTS is going to be replaced with Big Brother’s Little Brother And will air BEFORE the main show!

Yay!

Posted by: Liаm 22nd April 2018, 05:36 PM

Hmm I think I'm here for that tbh, Big Mouth was getting really shit and stale, and I always preferred BBLB on Channel 4, it was just more fun and more about the show rather than weirdos in the audience, who was on the panel or Rylan. I like Rylan, but I just prefer the BBLB format and whole vibe of it.

There are rumours we're back to the proper social experiment days which I would be SO here for, but they say something along the lines of going back to the roots every year nowadays and it never comes to fruition laugh.gif CBB in Jan was the most its felt like channel 4 BB for ages though in places so there's more promise. Why do I always get drawn in to inevitably be disappointing when the house is full of Ex On The Beach people and Love Island rejects? laugh.gif

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ 24th April 2018, 11:19 AM

I’m 110% sure that it will go back to its roots this year

I think CBB showed that tbh

Posted by: Liаm 24th April 2018, 12:12 PM

They certainly should do! Especially in the wake of Love Island which appeals more to the scripted reality fans, I don't see the point in BB also chasing that, airing an hour afterwards. People who are really into to Love Island aren't going to also get into BB just because it's chasing the same demographic, they're better off at least trying this approach for perhaps getting older fans back. They aren't getting the viewers by going for that demographic so I don't see why they can't at least try it, if it goes badly they can cut the series short like usual, cut their losses and go back to focusing on CBB. But they get CBB mostly right so I can't see why if they try they can't do the same with civilian. Because they carry on as they are, they're gonna be losing fans without gaining the "Love Island" kind of viewers...

I think what Scene said might actually be best, perhaps a different channel following the US/Canada format might spice it up. I've always wanted them to at least try that for one of the celeb series or something, but ofc the producers would be hating themselves if they paid hundreds of thousands for some big controversial name and then they were horrible and got voted out first.

Posted by: Klaus 26th April 2018, 04:56 PM

Ben Frow has said, if it is to return next year, it won’t be returning in it’s current form. They won’t be spending the money thay they are now on it. Who knows what that means...

I’m 99% sure this will be the last year though and honestly... I’m not as bothered as I thought I’d be oops

Posted by: ubɹǝɯbƆ 26th April 2018, 04:59 PM

I think it means either Celeb or civilian will be axed

Posted by: Liаm 26th April 2018, 06:05 PM

I really don't think they could put any less effort in than they already are, the show would be basically unrecognisable laugh.gif The only thing I could see is maybe another channel gets it and does a pre-recorded short version of the US format or something? I can't see channel 5 doing that because they'd be making less off of it without voting. If they're gonna totally butcher it and make it like TOWIE then I'd rather it just went.

Posted by: Klaus 26th April 2018, 06:25 PM

Yeh, the only way it could survive this year (that I’d want to see) is doing the US/Canada format.

The easy way to save money though is to axe the Summer CBB, they spend millions on housemates only for a small uplift in audience laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 27th April 2018, 02:16 AM

Yeah they really don't need both CBBs... The last summer was essential was the Charlotte series which is coming up for 5 years ago! It would improve the January series as they could put some of the budget into that, and then obviously the rest into civilian. I'd much rather they put more into civilian, even if the series wasn't extended, than have a lacklustre extra celeb series each year. All they really need to do is just keep it back to basics a bit, we don't need or even want it stripped right back to BB1, that'd be too drastic, but they got it right mostly last year even. We just need more great characters and real genuine people like Isabelle, Deborah and Raph, and less reality TV wannabes and similar fame whores, less twists, just so it feels more like classic Big Brother. It's not that hard and it's not gonna require tonnes more money being spent on it, but we've said this for years upon years and they just never get it totally right and hit their stride again with civilian.

It might be best for say Netflix or something similar to just grab it and do the US format, it would be a shame to miss the live aspects of it, as in the fanbase and stuff on Twitter I feel it engages me much more when we all tweet along live, or come on here straight after and dissect the episode. I'd miss that, but if it's a choice between that and Ben Frow making it into basically a TOWIE/Geordie Shore clone, which I think is what they're probably hinting at when they say "not in its current state", then I'd much rather have a Netflix US format show. I can't see that happening though, I think if another channel gets it, it'll be relegated to like W or something and end up even worse with even less effort laugh.gif Or that'll just be it for BB.

They really hate civ BB don't they?

Maybe CBB in August with it ending September? Then a really short (and probably final) civ BB starting a week or so later? I dunno. C5 are the pits.

EDIT: Yeah..

QUOTE
According to the latest reports, Celebrity Big Brother will instead begin the season in 'mid-August', followed by Big Brother in the autumn.

“We delayed everything until Love Island is out of the way," a source told the Daily Star newspaper. "Then fans will be ready for us. We'd usually start with a regular series but we're launching with all guns blazing with celebrities."

Posted by: Liаm 17th June 2018, 12:38 AM

Putting civilian after celeb definitely makes it seem like a goodbye series laugh.gif I get them leaving it until after Love Island but it's f***ing stupid how much they seem to hate BB, even though figures have dropped a hell of a lot it's still getting better views than most things C5 would show surely? I guess it costs more than Can't Pay Jane McDonald'll Take It Away and Jane McDonald On Benefits, but still. If they put a bit of effort in the payback would be greater, they'll probably fart out a final series that's as long as a celeb one and be done with it.

It will definitely come back eventually but I can’t see it being within the next few months. I think maybe another couple of years or so and it’ll be back. I think it needs a breather as well, returning now just feels a continuation of before - it needs people to miss it again.

If shows like Dancing on Ice and Celebrity Love Island can do it, the king of reality shows certainly can do it.

Posted by: Liаm 11th November 2019, 08:14 PM

I don't want or need it back yet tbh, it's encouraging and exciting that we are getting reboots in other countries etc but I agree it needs longer away to be a success. It fell out of favour for a reason, it needs longer for people to miss it and for the right ideas to come up etc., otherwise it's just going to go the same way again.

Posted by: Cqmerqn 11th November 2019, 09:19 PM

I agree tbh, and if it does come back I don’t want it 3 times a year!

It's in safe hands with Channel 4 so I think it being off air for another year (rumoured for Jan 2021) is fine.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 1st February 2020, 10:38 PM

I actually think C5 had more memorable CBB characters than what C4 did tbh.

But C4 done a much better job with the civilian series than what 5 did.

It would need some sort of big names though but no real calamities like a Roxanne saga.

Posted by: Liаm 1st February 2020, 11:24 PM

I'm in two minds, it's a bit soon but C4 is promising. Idk how I feel about it focusing on "controversial" characters who need to rebuild, some of those are interesting and I guess it would stop us getting the usual boring as shit Loose Woman or soap actors with 0 personality. I feel like that's just an early idea though and it might just inform some of the casting choices rather than being a main theme as in something the series is built around.

Posted by: Jαsє 1st February 2020, 11:37 PM

I've always liked the idea of the theme Celebrity Big Brother: The A List

So C4 splash the major cash and get the likes of Gaga and Madonna in the house next Jan please x

Posted by: lewistgreen 2nd February 2020, 11:48 AM

I’m seeing rumours of ‘later this year’ so a September series maybe? 🤞

Posted by: Jordan Lee 2nd February 2020, 12:05 PM

I think it needs longer off air tbh.

But C4 really should give more attention to their own reality show The Circle. I hope this doesn’t take away from it.

I adored BBUK and CBB but there’s a reason why it ended.

Tbh though I’d take anything said with a pinch of salt.

Posted by: Klaus 2nd February 2020, 12:09 PM

tbh I'm.... not missing it as much I thought I would have done at this point.

Of course I'd LOVE to see it back, but I do think it still needs at least another year, possibly two before it comes back. Particularly once Love Island has actually started it's decline!

Posted by: LMLou 2nd February 2020, 01:00 PM

A longer break will make for a much more exciting comeback, maybe wait till 2023 giving it 5 years off. I'd have preferred civillian BB but with the ratings that was getting I doubt it'll be coming back anytime soon.
I like the sound of a CBB for celebs with bad reputations but it somewhat limits the stars they could get to appear on the show

Posted by: Cqmerqn 2nd February 2020, 01:39 PM

THIS!

Although tbh wasn’t the last series of CBB sort of like that cast wise with the “media storm” theme?

They definitely need to keep it off air for now though. Love Island got popular because of how long it had been off air so it felt fresh at the time.

Posted by: Brett-Butler 2nd February 2020, 02:29 PM

Sceptical Brett is sceptical in the truth in this. After the Jade Goody documentary (especially the comments Davina McCall made in it), I don't think that Channel 4 would risk its reputation by bringing it back to the channel. I feel its moved away from what Big Brother was by the end and moving into more "respectable" reality shows like The Circle.

Now if they were to try to revive Big Brother as it was supposed to be in the beginning ie a social experiment, rather than the loud attention seeking behemoth it turned into, then maybe I can see them going for it.

THIS!

Although tbh wasn’t the last series of CBB sort of like that cast wise with the “media storm” theme?

They definitely need to keep it off air for now though. Love Island got popular because of how long it had been off air so it felt fresh at the time.

Tbf I don’t think young people even KNEW that Love Island was on in the past!

Posted by: troylovesmusic 2nd February 2020, 03:27 PM

I would prefer it not being on the same channel as The Circle tbh as I worry one would get favoured over the other but nevertheless I would LOVE for it to comeback . I do agree though it could with another year or so until it came back so people can miss it a bit more .

Posted by: lewistgreen 3rd February 2020, 06:12 PM

Channel 4 are denying the revival claims today so I guess that’s that! laugh.gif

Posted by: Jack 3rd February 2020, 06:12 PM

Posted by: Jordan Lee 3rd February 2020, 06:28 PM

It would the worst thing right now for it to come back as soon as this year.

I worry it’s gonna go to a bad channel though.

C4 are wise at keeping The Circle and focusing on that though.

Posted by: Jack 3rd February 2020, 06:40 PM

Have C4 confirmed The Circle is coming back?

I couldnt see Big Brother on many other channels, potentially something like E4 seeing as that had the equally trashy Celebrity Coach Trip currently.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd February 2020, 06:45 PM

I don't think E4 would have the budget for it

It would if C4 chucked money at it as funnily enough it's on the same network therefore funded by C4 tongue.gif

Posted by: WhoOdyssey 3rd February 2020, 07:30 PM

Yeah but each channel will have their own budget.

If C4 were going to spend a load of money on a show (and BB certainly isn't cheap), it would be on the main channel.

Posted by: Jack 3rd February 2020, 08:17 PM

I mean ITV2 do Love Island and that certainly isn't cheap!

A step in the right direction, and possibly testing the waters. I wonder (but very much doubt) if it will cover the Channel 5 era too. These lookbacks are always just about the C4 era. Yes it was the peak and the most memorable but it’s always the same stuff wheeled out!!

Posted by: RobBot 12th May 2020, 08:21 PM

Love that! Feels ever so slightly shady to have Davina & Rylan instead of Davina & Emma which would've been a cute meeting together of the two main hosts but hey.

Posted by: Jαsє 12th May 2020, 08:31 PM

I never thought we'd see Davina be involved in anything BB related ever again so this is honestly one of my most hyped shows of the year heart.gif

Posted by: Klaus 12th May 2020, 08:33 PM

Yeh, I don’t see why they couldn’t do Davina, Emma & Rylan unless Emma was actually asked and turned it down. I always felt she stopped loving the show in the final few years.

This from the press release gives me little confidence that Channel 5 era will be covered in any detail laugh.gif Maybe just David’s Dead and some Gemma Collins clips and Rylan v Speidi

Fight Night definitely going to be rolled out again and, if so, I think we can definitely count out any focus on the Channel 5 era!!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 13th May 2020, 11:15 AM

I wonder if they’ll show the painting episode from BB9 what was iconic until the spit incident happened.

C4 was way better for civilian big brother for me but I’d argue c5 had better celebrity versions likely because they used vote to save rather than evict.

Posted by: Scene 14th May 2020, 03:41 PM

THIS IS SO EXCITING! What's everyone's predictions for the shows being featured?

BB5 fight night
BB6 Makosi drama (quite a few options here lol what a queen wub.gif)
BB7 Grace eviction / Susie gets watered
BB9 painting drama / fight night 2

I know this might be too much to hope for but it would be amazing if social media goes crazy for these shows and there are calls to bring BB back. kink.gif I'm also kind of hoping this is Channel 4's way of testing the waters to see if there is some renewed interest in the show. If a deal is agreed, I just hope that they don’t go for the Love Island/MTV casting. The show thrives on a mixture of personalities, backgrounds etc. Surely that’s also the best way to protect both shows as well?

Sounds positive though, and the only real available home other than it returning back to Channel 4. I had hoped for a Channel 4 return but I think that had shattered after the recent news.

Posted by: Jord 16th April 2022, 12:58 PM

Please leave it off air!

I absolutely love (or loved) Big Brother UK but the C5 series never lived up to anything what was on the C4 era did (S14 was the only civilian series what felt classic) but I fear ITV2 would just make it another Love Island type show. Big Brother was just incredible
When it was good compelling viewing when they got the casting right but what also made it was it’s controversy too and the world is too PC now to ever get series like we did in “the glory eras of the show” like BB5, 6 and 7.

They ended it at the right time but I’m sceptical of another series being a success unless they completely changed the format and made it like the US series.

I get your points and a return could take away from what was brilliant about it. I enjoyed a good few of the series on channel 5, there is no doubt the channel 4 series were the peak of the show and for many were the best series but some of the channel 5 series were great tv. In an ideal world i would like the show to return without tweaking it too much, the format in general i loved, i think the key is getting the cast right.

Posted by: Slayer 16th April 2022, 06:19 PM

I would love Rylan back!

I also love Emma and Davina, however I wouldn't be surprised if they went for someone completely new to present the show.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 18th April 2022, 12:21 AM

I'd like emma or davina to host as it would bring some familiarity plus I always enjoyed their presenting of the show in the past.

Posted by: LMFan 18th April 2022, 09:20 AM

I’d love it to return with Emma as the presenter, she was fantastic. However, I hope they keep Rylan away from it, was never keen on him.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 19th April 2022, 01:41 AM

Rylan for worked well on big brothers bit on the side but I'm not sure about him been the main presenter. I do like his belief in the show and how passionate he is about it

Posted by: shadow2009 19th April 2022, 08:33 PM

It will never happen but a proper stripped back, back to basics series would be incredible. No silly montages with music and 'storylines', no twists, no outside interference AT ALL and about 10 civilian housemates in it for the experience.

Lockdown would have been the perfect time to reboot the show and reach a new audience and show why people fell in love with the show in the first place.

Unfortunately the producers of reality TV will never learn. It was the same with X-Factor and Britains Got Talent. They meddle too much and try too hard to create 'moments' and manipulate so much that it just turns people off. Less is more!

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 23rd April 2022, 12:21 PM

I do agree, bring it back to basics and it will have more appeal, while I enjoyed all series of BB the earlier ones were more classic due to less interference.

Get Davina Back.

Posted by: Klaus 6th June 2022, 08:45 AM

I think part of that is Emma saving face because I don’t even see her as the frontrunner if it was confirmed to return. I can’t see past Rylan hosting but, even if it wasn’t him, they’d go for Davina or a new face. Emma oddly doesn’t feel like the face of the show. She didn’t seem to enjoy most of the series she presented laugh.gif

Posted by: troylovesmusic 6th June 2022, 11:18 AM

I say either Davina or a fresh new person ideally a woman . I think the show has always suited best when a female is hosting it . Rylan could do the spin off again but I wouldn’t have him be the main host .

Posted by: Slayer 6th June 2022, 12:52 PM

I agree Emma may be saving face a bit as I don't think she'd be first choice (I love Emma).

I think Alison could be an interesting option! Also would be open to Davina, i'd loooove Rylan to be involved somehow but maybe not the main presenter.

Posted by: Klaus 1st August 2022, 09:52 AM

Newspapers are reporting the deal has been agreed with ITV and a new series will air next year which will go back to basics and feature ‘everyday people’ and have less challenges. They’re also wanting a presenter not associated with the show (i.e. no Rylan) which links in with the previous rumour of Mo Gilligan.

Great news to have the show back, and the civilian version at that. I just worry that they are reporting it will be for the ‘Love Island generation’. The main point of the show is to have people from all different backgrounds, not identikit wannabe influencers. If it’s just going to be Love Island in a studio set on a parking lot, I’d rather it stayed off air.

Posted by: Liаm 1st August 2022, 10:33 AM

Honestly to me there's kind of a reason it didn't work, as much as I miss old Big Brother, I think audiences have moved on. Bringing the show back with a "back to basics" thing I think will just end up being like Love Island, especially with ITV behind it I feel like they might want a second Love Island type show. They need to maybe try something else with it, I think they'd do well to try the US tactical format, The Circle did ok with it being more about the game. That differentiates it from Love Island a bit more, and as much as it's maybe not what everyone wants compared to a return to the golden age, I would rather that than just "Love Island in a house". In saying that, they would probably still end up casting a bunch of Love Island esque people for that too laugh.gif

Posted by: Klaus 1st August 2022, 04:50 PM

The way they’ve got me so hyped just because it’s becoming official (rumoured formal announcement is during Love Island tonight). I’m going to be such a clown in 15 months time when it’s just Love Island-lite.

It's insane though there is Love Island Winter in January 2023 and the Summer version in 2023 also, I wonder where they'll slot Big Brother in.

They'll have to do something to differentiate it more from Love Island.

The press release:

The Big Brother house has a brand new home, as the global television phenomenon makes its much anticipated return to UK television and moves onto ITV2 and ITVX from 2023.

A new cast of carefully selected housemates, from all walks of life, will take up residence in the world’s most famous reality TV home for up to six weeks, with cameras capturing their every move, and the nation following every twist and turn.

The action will all play out under the roof of the iconic Big Brother house, which will be given its own contemporary new look ready for this reimagining of the show. Clever tasks, nail-biting nominations and live evictions will be back, with the public once again playing a crucial role, voting throughout the series and ultimately determining the winner, who will walk away with a life changing cash prize. Produced by Initial (part of Banijay UK) Big Brother first launched on UK screens in 2000.

Big Brother is commissioned for ITV2 and ITVX by Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions and Controller, ITV2, ITVBe & CITV, and Peter Tierney, Commissioning Editor. Its return to UK screens marks the first major Banijay format commission for leading entertainment and format producers Natalka Znak and Claire O’Donohoe since joining the group earlier this year.

Paul Mortimer, Director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions and Controller, ITV2, ITVBe and CITV said:

“This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round, but with a brand new look and some additional twists that speak to today’s audience. We’re beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers.”

Natalka Znak, CEO of Initial, Remarkable Entertainment and Znak TV added:

“Big Brother is the original and best reality format and one that I have never made before so it’s a huge privilege to be making an all new version with ITV2 and ITVX. Working with Claire O'Donohoe and the talented team at Initial, Katy Manley and Cat Lynch. This is going to be epic!”

I think with ITV doing 2 lots of Love Island, they won't want to have ANOTHER thing that's framed like Love Island with the same lot of people doing it, which is promising! I think if this was say after Love Island had ended, I'd be more worried they'd just chase it. Channel 5 is just a shit channel really so never were going to run the show that well and I'm actually optimistic. And tbf ITV have done really well at honing in at what makes Love Island good and unique so that it's a success and hopefully that energy carries over to BB too.

Posted by: Billy. 2nd August 2022, 01:56 PM

I think this is going to be good. ITV have done wonders with LI but other shows like The Cabins have also had more down to earth people in it.

Posted by: Jord 2nd August 2022, 05:45 PM

I mean I’m happy it’s back but please let it be exciting. The world and times we live in now likely mean the days of the above images are over but I still hope that there’s some form of drama and controversy around the housemates. ITV2 really need to take notice of the tweets and posts from fans of the show on what they want, I’m a Love Island viewer but Big Brother is the OG and the appeal of Big Brother was always it was for all walks of life and we seen so much inclusivity from different genders, ages, races, sexualities, disabilities, religious beliefs etc.

Cast an inclusive cast who are just your regular people. No influencers and keep things simple. I’d say keep it around 10-12 housemates for series one and make the twists minimal. We’ll see what happens I mean I’ll always watch Big Brother but I’m nervous of it returning. I think it was axed at the right time on C5 and I’m unsure if enough times passed as of yet.

I think people forget that even as recent as C5 we did have some good series! The series Isabelle won was gripping and so good with the various drama, and tbh so was the one with Gina/Hazel/Sam and even unfortunately the one that Jason won.

There are going to be more game hungry people but from watching BBC and ITV reality shows, it can be done with some really good personalities. ITV seem switched on to know what makes a successful show and stick with that formula - just look at how popular Love Island, I'm A Celeb etc are

That was an awful series; Isabelle was the only likeable one in there and what made her win all the better. HMs like Lotan, Kayleigh, Simone, Andrew, Joe, Chanelle and Elle were all awful - plus a few more who I can't remember.

BB14 was great though; i'd probably cite that as the last brilliant civilian series... apart from Sam winning. BB17 was again good because Jason was put through shit by Big Brother and they expected/ wanted a Hughie win, so Jason winning was made all the better.

Channel 5 did do Celebrity Big Brother right though... in fact they did some great series'. They p!ssed around far too much with the normal series.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 2nd August 2022, 08:16 PM

And Jason was an awwwwwful mysoginistic pig of a winner lmao. Not entertaining in the slightest either, I didn't like Hughie either though. It was all about Jayne and Lateysha.

The best thing about Lateysha was Jason evicting her and her leaving through the backdoor - now that was iconic.

Jayne was great though; I'll give you that one.

The confirmation of Big Brothers return is excellent news.

Posted by: Klaus 2nd August 2022, 08:38 PM

Backdoor evictions was possibly the worst Channel 5 invention. Having someone be evicted on the spot at the most random moment on the most random basis with zero fanfare really takes away the drama and from the investment viewers have put into the series.

I know producers need to adapt the series as it progresses but the show needs a lot more structure than was given to it in most of the latter C5 series where they just threw everything at the wall to see what stuck. At the end of the day, shows like Love Island, I’m a Celebrity and The Apprentice have structures in their format where viewers know what is coming up but they still stay loyal to the shows.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 2nd August 2022, 08:41 PM

I do think that's where C5 faltered, they did way too many twist and turns, just having a solid structure works. I think they could introduce a twist to it like they have with Love Island in Casa Amor and stick with it.

Probably the best one would be a secret house where someone popular or who causes havoc gets fake evicted - it would always be a surprise because you wouldn't know at what point it would happen and would keep people gripped. Idk.

Oh I do agree; it was just fitting for Lateysha laugh.gif

But I do agree that they weren't the best - also the arbitrary way (for instance) that Austin was dispatched in Celebrity Big Brother and a few others too. Kinda killed things and took away the usual elements of the show. It seems odd that C5 in trying to adapt and change the series to make things more 'exciting' that they didn't try and adopt how the US series' are - with gameplay etc and treating it like a big game.

Channel 4 did few a few weeks in Big Brother 9 where there was a a Head of House for a few weeks. Also I guess Big Brother 13; they were allowed to discuss nominations, which had an affect at times too. But it seems a little odd it was never tried, or tested - even with a shorter Celeb series to test the waters.

Posted by: Rooney 2nd August 2022, 08:59 PM

Big Brother failed because it just ran out of steam, you can have too much of a good thing and it never hit the heights of the peak again. Bit like X Factor did.

I think now with how Love Island and done, and also probably the popularity it has shown on ITV Hub etc. with the streaming numbers has probably given hope. I'd be intrigued to watch a new version of the show. But part of the fun of the original Big Brother was just the naivety of the people who went on etc. - it's a different world now and I guess the producers need to adapt. Still think they will go for a Love Island-lite version and probably try to manipulate the situation more.

Posted by: Liаm 3rd August 2022, 01:20 AM

A mixture of US gameplay and still having the viewers involved (moreso than Love Island where it's just the odd vote) would be great. I do think the show failed for a reason, and that nostalgia is part of what will set it off when comes back but it also needs updating a bit otherwise the same problems are still there.

The main problem that's easy to fix though is the lack of structure and the chaos C5 BB had at times. As said, there were so many stupid random twists, backdoor evictions etc. etc. and it just took away from what is a basic but great format. I mean if you put a bunch of people in a house together, there's always going to be drama anyway by nature! You don't need to give people immunity, have random secret double evictions out the backdoor or even worse passes to the final or loads of power! It made it less of a social experiment because they were engineering all these "drama" shock moments, when really the biggest shock would have been a normal series laugh.gif I don't mind say a fake eviction, but when every week has a twist pulled out of nowhere that's pretty inconsequential, that gets boring fast.

One idea I think could be good is having some more competition/game elements, maybe flip the voting between the public and house so we could nominate and the housemates vote each other. That way there's a fresh twist but it isn't too far removed from the BB we know and love. I think they may well just do it as basic as possible to start with though, which would also be a good way to bring the show back and have nostalgia. Nominations on x day and eviction on y day, maybe one or two doubles, with minimal interference and I think people will realise that BB can fill a gap in the schedule and remember what TV is missing!

The Isabelle series is so underrated. Sukhvinder and Chanelle were amazing.

Idk if BBUK would ever be the same. People are really sensitive about everything now, dislike a contestant and send Ofcom complaints if there is any sort of drama or somebody kicking off. I can't see it being as entertaining as it once was but if they get a good cast who knows!

Where have they plucked Maya Jama from lmao

Posted by: shadow2009 4th August 2022, 12:19 PM

PLEASE keep the ITV crew (Holly, Phil, Bradley, Rylan, Allison, Dermot, Ant and Dec etc) away from the main presenter role. sad.gif Sick of seeing the lot of them.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 4th August 2022, 12:23 PM

I think Allison and Rylan would be fine! The rest I agree with though.

I would love this!

Maya Jana was rumoured a lot to present Love Island last year so they’ve probably just thrown her into this rumour mill.

I demand Alison

That sexist Victor series was atrocious, with them kicking out teo women due to extreme aggression from the chauvenist males, who literally worked together and connived to get contestants out. It wad a disgrace.

Omg at that C5 BB. Where do they get these people from?! All of them were super aggressive and flying off thr handle at - literally - the drop of a hat.

Omg this

The breadbag incident and Kayleigh brushing her hair while Sukhvinder is sat having her breakfast still make me scream tearsmile.gif

24 hour live feed confirmed, on a subscription basis. Okay I might just take this seriously now!

Not confirmed, it's just some website (Politicalite - never heard of it, is it reliable?) claiming Paul Osborne told them live feed will return.

EDIT: Just done some digging - the bit about the live feed seems to have been taken from the Daily Telegraph story (2nd August) which is behind a paywall. Seems that Osborne spoke to the Telegraph rather than Politicalite. And he was told by them that live feed would return on ITVX, then responded positively.

The Sun are reporting Big Brother's Bit On The Side will also possibly be returning!

Also lots of reports that Alison is favourite to host the main show, I would LOVE that.

Alison would be a fantastic host, Emma was too formal for it really she didn't have the slap dash style that Davina has and that Alison will have too

Going by the sun Maura Higgins is the front runner to present the show but I hope its not true.

i imagine it's going to be incredibly popular in terms of applicants

Posted by: Jαsє 10th October 2022, 05:06 PM

AJ Odudu is apparently in "advanced talks" to be the presenter.

Posted by: Slayer 10th October 2022, 05:52 PM

I'm guessing the series is going to air between March-June according to the application!

Posted by: Dot Of The Dead 11th October 2022, 03:25 PM

"It's been 52 minutes since Charley and Chanelle started an argument over the correct age of popular R&B singer Rihanna"

I hope they can bring Big Brother back with a return to its roots. That means normal people from a wide range of age and social groups and not a Love Island esque bunch of young influencers who already have some sort of following on Instagram or TikTok. Agree that they shouldn't go overboard with shock twists either. Stick a bunch of people in a house together, cut them off from the outside world, make them do some games and challenges for things like the shopping budget and otherwise leave them be and see what happens.

Posted by: Slayer 13th October 2022, 06:14 PM

I didn't see it when it was posted but Davina ruled herself out of returning.

Posted by: JackTheeStallion 13th October 2022, 06:36 PM

AJ Odudu is currently the favourite to host and I think she'd be perfect!

Posted by: Slayer 13th October 2022, 08:49 PM

I'd love Alison Hammond to host, she'd be amazing.

Posted by: Slayer 15th October 2022, 09:37 PM

Edit: not sure how reliable this is?

Posted by: Leatherface 16th October 2022, 05:32 PM

I imagine the spin-off will just be the usual panel & audience reacting to the HL show with a few "exclusive" clips as teasers.

Posted by: Slayer 31st October 2022, 05:17 PM

I think this is a good thing!

Posted by: Klaus 31st October 2022, 05:34 PM

Yeah, I’m not surprised given that they’ve not even started building the house as far as I’m aware!
