BEST SONG

01. Slumdog Millionaire – Jai Ho (5,2)
02. Slumdog Millionaire – MIA – Paper Planes (1,3)
03. Hannah Montana The Movie – The Climb (1,2)
04. Hannah Montana The Movie – Hoedown Throedown (1,1)
04. Avatar – I See You (1,1)

Our first award of the night goes to Slumdog Millionaire - will it be able to win any more of its seven nominations tonight? I was expecting the Hannah Montana songs to put up a bit more of a fight (those two were my votes so I'm a little disappointed too) but there was no match for Jai Ho which obliterated the competition on first preference votes. It is a massive feel-good pop banger so it's definitely a deserving winner here too even if the iconic Hoedown Throwdown would have been my personal pick music.gif

BEST SCRIPT

01. Up (5,1)
02. Slumdog Millionaire (2,1)
03. Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince (1,3)
04. Bride Wars (1,0)
05. District 9 (0,3)
06. Confessions of a Shopaholic (0,1)

The second award given out tonight goes to Up with a very good amount of first preference votes. Could this be the start of a night of domination for Pixar here on Buzzjack? I've said before how it's one of my least favourite Pixar films due to my dislike of the lead character, Carl. Saying that, the script is certainly a strong one and the montage scene does tug at your heartstrings so this is probably a deserving winner even if it wouldn't be my personal choice.

A fair few films I haven't seen here (Slumdog Millionaire, Bride Wars & Confessions...) so my votes went to District 9 and Harry Potter, the former is one of the most unique sci-fi films I've ever seen and the latter being in my top three Harry Potter films so it's a shame they didn't do a little better sad.gif

BEST VOICE PERFORMANCE

01. Ed Asner – Up (4,4)
02. Reese Witherspoon – Monsters vs Aliens (2,1)
03. Anna Faris – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (1,2)
04. Bill Hader – Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (1,0)
04. Meryl Streep – Fantastic Mr Fox (1,0)

Up wins a second award here already as Ed Asner (the voice of Carl Fredricksen) wins the award for Best Voice Performance after featuring in votes from an impressive 8/9 voters here (the only not voting him at all being me laugh.gif). He does do a good job at being a disgruntled old man I guess so fair enough.

I slept through the entirety of Monsters vs Aliens and I've never seen Fantastic Mr Fox so my votes went to the two Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs actors by default really. Bill Vader does do a fab job in that film but I can't even remember Anna Faris in it really, a bit of a weak category here cry.gif The Ice Age cast members should have been nominated!!

BEST ANIMATION

01. Up (6,0)
02. Fantastic Mr Fox (1,2)
03. Coraline (1,1)
04. Bolt (1,0)
05. Monsters vs Aliens (0,2)
06. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (0,1)
06. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (0,1)

and Up wins in yet another landslide!! Oops at me being the only person here to not really like it that much. It has destroyed the competition here in the Animated category but it has weaker competition than in the Best Picture category so I wonder how it will do there when revealed later?

I think Bolt was my top choice here but just because I liked it when I saw it as a kid at the cinema but I've never seen it once since so I don't even remember it that much. Coraline is way too terrifying to watch and Fantastic Mr Fox looks a bit dull so I didn't have many choices here that I loved or have even seen laugh.gif

BEST DIRECTOR

01. Up – Pete Docter (3,2)
02. Slumdog Millionaire - Danny Boyle (2,4)
03. District 9 – Neill Blomkamp (2,1)
04. Avatar – James Cameron (1,0)
04. The Proposal – Anne Fletcher (1,0)
06. Doubt – John Patrick Shanley (0,1)
06. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - David Fincher (0,1)

Oh yay, Up wins yet another award... (I'm gonna run out of patience gifs at this rate drama.gif). I haven't even seen Slumdog Millionaire which would probably be a worthy winner but I don't really see how Up is a bit directed film than the massively ambitious District 9 and Avatar but I guess that could just be my personal dislike of the film preventing my view from being completely objective heehee.gif I gave a vote to David Fincher too just because I really enjoyed how that story was told and was never bored once despite the film being very long.

Such a strong category so I would've been happy with any winner there tbh!

'Slumdog Millionaire' is so overrated. I thought it was OK, but that's all really. Any of the others should've come 2nd tbh.

Pleasently surprised at how well 'District 9' is doing!

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

01. James Franco – Milk (3,0)
02. Stanley Tucci – Julie & Julia (1,3)
03. Zachary Quinto – Star Trek (1,2)
04. Christoph Waltz – Inglorious Basterds (1,1)
04. Michael Shannon – Revolutionary Road (1,1)

I was really expecting Christoph Waltz to landslide this for his tour de force performance in Inglourious Basterds but it is indeed James Franco who wins due to first preference votes. I was really impressed with Franco in Milk and I think he would've been a more deserving real life nominee than Josh Brolin in my opinion but I'm a bit surprised he's done so well here when Sean Penn wasn't even nominated here ohmy.gif

Michael Shannon was actually my top choice and I'm a bit gutted he's come last here but I assume that's because less people have seen the film? He's such a scene stealer in that film and makes such a huge impression in a very little amount of screen-time. I've seen Julie & Julia too but I don't remember anything special about Stanley Tucci in it aside from just being there ohmy.gif
