BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Charli XCX - Famous

Looks as though video is being shot today.

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ 9th March 2015, 08:44 AM

Please no.

Posted by: Juranamo 9th March 2015, 11:36 AM

I do like 'Famous', but it's not a single really. What is she/her label thinking when they have so many smashes on the album? sad.gif

Posted by: Joe. 9th March 2015, 12:55 PM

I Like Famous too. While it's far from being one of the album's duds it's also clearly not the strongest on the album. I was hoping 'I Need Ur Luv' would be the next single.

Posted by: jark 9th March 2015, 01:01 PM

Good song, stupid single.

Posted by: Cameron 9th March 2015, 01:26 PM

I love Famous, but would have preferred I Need Ur Love!

Posted by: Joe. 9th March 2015, 01:47 PM

Unless this is a hit of some kind - which I can't see it being, I doubt there will be another single. I would have loved hearing 'I Need Ur Luv' on the radio. sad.gif

The lyrics on Famous are a little childish, just like Break The Rules, which I'm sure had a hand in its flop.

Posted by: JosephStyles 9th March 2015, 01:52 PM

Really like this track but yeah I can't see it being much of a hit sadly. Would love to be proven wrong.

Posted by: mr_aly 9th March 2015, 03:14 PM

It's a highlight for me but yeah, wouldn't have exactly been my first choice.

I can't actually see there being another hit from this album no matter what was chosen, which is a shame.

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ 9th March 2015, 03:26 PM

I'd rather she released Body of My Own with an added final chorus.

THIS

or need ur luv, die tonight or so over you tbh

Posted by: Hooker 10th March 2015, 12:31 AM

I can hear the instrumental of this track being used in the media, so maybe that's what the label are riding on.

Posted by: Cody Slayberry 10th March 2015, 12:50 AM

It's the fourth international single?

Weird as the US is still milking out "Doing It" with Charli's Pepsi deal

Posted by: JosephStyles 10th March 2015, 01:11 AM

Yeah we got Break the Rules between Boom Clap and Doing It although it was a big flop in comparison to the other two drama.gif

Posted by: mr_aly 11th March 2015, 01:15 PM

Properly love this now actually! wub.gif

Posted by: Joe. 11th March 2015, 01:29 PM

Really hope it doesn't completely bomb.

Posted by: JVSH 11th March 2015, 01:34 PM

Waiting for the inevitable Iggy Azalea remix tbh, complete with "paparazzi are flocking" sample.

Posted by: Jay ジ 13th March 2015, 02:05 AM

I really like 'Famous' and it's one of the highlights on the album for me. However, like Joe, I would rather she had gone with 'Need Ur Luv'. wub.gif

Posted by: J▲hq 20th March 2015, 04:05 PM

Well this is SUCH a comedown from "Doing It" which is possibly my song of the year so far. sad.gif Not completely awful but very annoying and easily her worst single.

Posted by: Mackenzie 20th March 2015, 07:49 PM

Would of preferred Need Your Love but meh ok

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ 20th March 2015, 10:15 PM

They can still prevent this tragedy from happening, I hope they do.

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ 21st March 2015, 01:11 AM

Video teaser:

She looks gross. What's she supposed to be?

Posted by: jark 21st March 2015, 01:25 AM

Wtaf.

WTAF!

Posted by: mr_aly 21st March 2015, 01:27 AM

I think she's supposed to be a meth-addicted cheerleader?

Posted by: Joe. 21st March 2015, 06:28 PM

Charli auditioning for The Walking Dead?

Posted by: Kuki Sanban 21st March 2015, 10:51 PM

OMG WHAT ON EARTH

Posted by: Josh. 23rd March 2015, 05:20 PM

Tragic. It's certainly a one of a kind type video.

WHAT THE F*** IS THIS

Posted by: Joe. 23rd March 2015, 05:49 PM

I don't get it.

Is it some commentary on the digital age turning everyone into Zombies?

Posted by: Juranamo 23rd March 2015, 05:56 PM

Eeeek. :/

That's what I got from it.

Love the video, can't deny it. laugh.gif

Posted by: SLlewellyn 23rd March 2015, 09:05 PM

All the songs sound the same. She really isn't doing herself any favours in trying to breakthrough successfully. "Boom Clap" was great and I've really warmed to "Doing It", but I guess we'll have to wait and see whether she does a Miley Cyrus and follow-up a few 'meh' eras with something huge.

Posted by: Joe. 23rd March 2015, 09:20 PM

I think Boom Clap and Doing It are outstanding pop songs but to me this is just a decent album track. I think she was trying to break the Internet with this video and get a Black Widow/Blank Space/Elastic Heart kind of video effect. Famous is not in the top 1,500 though.

Posted by: mr_aly 23rd March 2015, 09:23 PM

I just realised, this song is essentially 'This Is How We Do's brattier cousin (although the chorus on this is a bit stronger).

Posted by: dhwe 23rd March 2015, 10:23 PM

Eric Wareheim directed it so this is exactly what you'd expect from an Eric Wareheim-directed video

Posted by: Kuki Sanban 25th March 2015, 03:08 AM

I adore Charli XCX but this video is absolutely horrific sad.gif

Posted by: Joe. 25th March 2015, 09:21 AM

The video is still only on 700k. For a worldwide artist that's pretty poor considering she was clearly trying to go viral with this. I really still am not feeling the song as a single. It hasn't even gone 1,500 here at all.

Posted by: Rabbit Froot 25th March 2015, 10:22 AM

The video is basically saying 'don't be a Charli XCX fan'.

Posted by: Ryan. 27th March 2015, 01:57 AM

The video is absolutely crazy, but absolutely amazing - surprised it has such a negative reaction as it's so different (but I guess anything this different is going to be polarising). It's a very unique take on pop culture and the digital world today, very clever video.

Posted by: Umi 27th March 2015, 02:42 AM

Agreed, I think it's a fabulous video. Not the best advertisement for the song or anything and it's a pity it's gone so unnoticed but I think it's both brilliant conceptually and excellently executed. Like it more than anything since her last album, honestly.

Posted by: J▲hq 27th March 2015, 10:08 PM

The video is very 'what the f*** is going on?' but I don't totally hate it.

Not a patch on "Doing It" though, that has the complete package for me.

Posted by: Joe. 30th April 2015, 08:36 AM

What's the impact date for this? Radio 1 haven't playlisted and I can't see them snubbing right now because they always seem to promote artists performing at their big weekend.

She's performing the track on Chatty man on 15 May 2015 I think.

Posted by: PeaceMob 30th April 2015, 09:13 AM

Loved the video, made me laugh a couple of times. It's nice to see something that reflects the world we live in today even if it was an exaggerated, zany form of it.

Posted by: Vülker 30th April 2015, 10:28 AM

fantastic little video. a bit too out there for mainstream airplay, surely?

'Break The Rules' should've gotten a bigger push as a single

Posted by: Joe. 6th May 2015, 09:36 PM

Playlisted on Radio 1 and Chatty Man performance next week.

Will this go top 40?

Is it actually playlisted by Radio 1? I can't see it anywhere pirate.gif unless I'm just being blind.

Posted by: Joe. 7th May 2015, 08:14 AM

Track of the day on Radio 1 today!

(Yes, it was added to the playlist yesterday)

Posted by: JimmyT 7th May 2015, 09:54 AM

What a terrible song and even worse video. A horror show all round, no pun intended.

Posted by: Joe. 16th May 2015, 10:27 PM

Poor gal couldn't even get the song top 200 on iTunes with this performance. I didn't mind it - clearly half (or mostly?) mined though. Her outfit.

Posted by: Kuki Sanban 16th May 2015, 11:44 PM

I can't believe this is playlisted by Radio 1, had good promotion (Alan Carr, MTV movie awards) and isn't even able to go top 200 on iTunes sad.gif I hope this massive flop doesn't stop Radio 1 from ever touching her again!

Posted by: ♡ Heezus Froot ♡ 17th May 2015, 04:47 AM

I called it. What a waste of promotion and radio support. The song is just not single-worthy. You can't force ANYTHING down people's throats.

Posted by: Joe. 17th May 2015, 08:39 AM

I need Ur Luv is so quirky and different too. And it's just sitting on the album.

Posted by: Joe. 17th May 2015, 09:56 AM

Also, go to 0;48... The Audience are LOVING IT unsure.gif

Hahahah I can hear the crickets over Charli's voice.

Posted by: ___∆___ 17th May 2015, 10:43 AM

What an absolute mess of a performance and song, Quite rare for a decent promo slot to result in no iTunes movement.

Posted by: JimmyT 17th May 2015, 03:26 PM

Couldnt believe the Alan Carr thing. Such a mess, Kesha on speed wearing a cheap Elvis suit.

Posted by: JosephO'Meara 17th May 2015, 03:27 PM

In all fairness, Alan Carr rarely has much of an effect on the chart! I remember The Vamps' Last Night having one dark green update following their performance and then nothing else lol.

Posted by: ✖ ketalina ✖ 17th May 2015, 03:32 PM

it's hardly a song to be released, but the video is a QT idea i guess.

It's odd really, I know ratings are lower but Norton has SUCH an effect usually. It might be to do with the fact the songs are followed by credits whereas Graham continues the show with more chat and the red chair.

Posted by: joeefoster 18th May 2015, 02:23 PM

I'm undecided how I feel about this single. We've still got till the 1st of June before it's official release so maybe with some radio playlisting and some TV performances (dare I say it, possibly BGT) we could get a Top 20 peak and then I'd be very happy with the Sucker campaign. 'Need Your Love' is my favourite but that can never be a single.

For an album that peaked at 15 (I believe) to get two top 10s, a top 20 and a top 40 is decent enough if this follows through.

Video is cute though tongue.gif

I've just noticed Famous is 59p on iTunes and that doesn't seem to be helping either.

Only from late last night - It is helping a bit. Up to 164 from 202 this morning.

Posted by: barbaric_dan 19th May 2015, 09:35 PM

Its just not a commercial song

Posted by: Joe. 28th May 2015, 08:05 AM

I'm not expecting much from this song, but I would like to see a top 100 entry. It has now charted at #176 as of last week and is now up to #88 on iTunes, A-list is helping it, it won't make the top 100 this week, but might next week. (149 in yesterday's midweeks)

Posted by: #OwlVicii 28th May 2015, 05:42 PM

Took me ages to get around to listening to this but sounded great actually. Hope it does well in the chart please.gif

Posted by: ___∆___ 29th May 2015, 12:31 AM

#149 in the midweeks is rather tragic considering its A-Listed, Had prime time TV exposure, a video, Reduced to 59p on iTunes, Available to stream and is from a poor selling album meaning not many people already own it....

Posted by: Joe. 4th June 2015, 08:47 AM

Looks like 'Famous' will not make the top 100. I have grown to really love it but it was a silly single choice. #133 in yesterday's midweeks.

I predict the same thing is going to have that happened with so many of my favourites. Where maximum radio support (two weeks radio 1 A list) resulting in still flopping hinders the support of the next, far superior single.

It happened with Jessie Ware 'You & I', Katy Perry's 'Birthday', for example. Both of which had maximum support, and didn't do that well (in their own ways) - and then 'Champagne Kisses' and 'This is How We Do' got like C-C-B-B out type support and even though they outsold the singles that came before, but were never able to properly smash.

I can see this happening with "need ur luv'
