BuzzJack Music Forum _ Kylie and Dannii Minogue _ Get Outta My Way vs Into The Blue

Posted by: pippa 3rd February 2020, 02:55 PM

On 2 occasions, Kylie had singles that achieved a Number 12 peak.
This happened with Into The Blue and Get Outta My Way.
What is the best song from the 2 choices?

Posted by: ___∆___ 3rd February 2020, 03:11 PM

Love them both but went with GOOMW wub.gif

'Get Outta My Way' is legit one of my fave Kylie singles ever.

This, basically.

'Get Outta My Way' for sure!

Into The Blue.
Both songs are good and fall middle tier.
Kylie has offered much stronger and weaker.

Posted by: aeroco 3rd February 2020, 09:57 PM

Both are brill but went for ITB...strong vocals.

GOMW is a top bop, love how it does well (for her) on streaming.

Posted by: pippa 3rd February 2020, 09:59 PM

The streaming success of Get Outta My Way has really helped increase its sales as prior, its sales were very low.

I know it’s great....should have been a much bigger download hit in 2010...making amends now.

Posted by: pippa 3rd February 2020, 10:26 PM

What are its total sales now?

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 3rd February 2020, 10:51 PM

Neither are stands out but I prefer into the blue.

Both are really good & deserved better than their respective chart peaks. But gone for 'Get Outta My Way' as it has more of an edge to it with a stronger more powerful chorus & if released back in her heyday, this easily could have smashed.

'Into The Blue' is decent as-well with some great soaring vocals over a very polished & refined production, its what Kylie does best, but to be honest its not really something I go back to that often, but glad it finally got added to her 'Step Back In Time' collection.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 4th February 2020, 12:36 PM

I actually really love both songs, they both hold a special place in my heart.

It's gotta be 'Get Outta My Way' though.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 4th February 2020, 01:13 PM

I think il always remember Into the blue as by chart position it was her last decent chart entry ( also went top 10 here in ireland) although dancing has sold more with a much lower peak.

Posted by: pippa 4th February 2020, 02:24 PM

I was extremely disappointed Into The Blue missed Top 10 as it was one of her last chances to secure a final Top 10 hit.
That said, with new management etc i was expecting Kylie to release something much stronger than it.

I love Get Outta Ma Way! I thought it was a no.2 hit laugh.gif That! Absolute bop and nostalgic now.

Posted by: pippa 4th February 2020, 04:40 PM

Nowhere close to Number 2, Number 12 was its peak.
I think many fans thought it would be a sure fire Top 10 when released.

Posted by: SamJudd 4th February 2020, 09:26 PM

I also thought that 'Get Outta My Way' would have been a sure fire top 10 hit at the time, especially following the massive 'All The Lovers' (which was her biggest hit in the UK & worldwide since the early 00's), & with that momentum you'd think that 'GOMW' would follow suit. But sadly that didn't happen despite the overwhelming praise from fans & critics, just goes to show that fan-faves doesn't always equal chart success.

Also ain't it crazy that due to this underperforming that it threw the plans for the rest of this era out of whack. Why anyone thought that 'Better Than Today' would be more suitable for a single status than 'Put Your Hands Up' & 'Cupid Boy'. Whoever made that decision should be fired.

Posted by: pippa 4th February 2020, 09:53 PM

I have said this a few times but Get Outta My Way was the wrong choice for a second single.
Cupid Boy would be the most suitable second single and i think it would have achieved Top 10 status.
Had the plan went that way, Aphrodite could have went onto bigger success.
Get Outta My Way could have served as 3rd or 4th single and likely would have performed the same as it did as second single.
All The Lovers was powerful and set Aphrodite up for the great opening week success it achieved but the campaign fell short on everything after All The Lovers.

I am one of the few that dont rate get outta my way at all and much prefer better than today but as much as I like it it wasnt the best single choice. I think I would have went

All the lovers
Cupid boy
Put your hands up
Aphrodite

I really, really think you are totally wrong about this. 'Cupid Boy' definitely wouldn't have been a better choice for the second single.

I think looking back in hindsight, nothing would have made the top 10 as the second single. It was just an unfortunate circumstance, and it coincided with the sort of time CD singles were less readily available to buy (which as we all know she heavily relied upon to get those top 10 hits back in the day).

Into The Blue BY FAR for me.

Underrated and soothing! It’s actually something from her discography I go back to a lot tbh I prefer it to a lot of her big hits. I’ve always liked it though wub.gif wub.gif

Get outta my way was a backward step from all the lovers and killed the campaign, I know cd singles were coming into a decline but I would also have picked cupid boy ahead of it.

Get Outta My Way, one of her very best.

brilliant video too, could have done with the chairs lol

love how she looked on Americas Got Talent in USA also when she sang it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQ-ExoKWeHQ

Posted by: pippa 5th February 2020, 02:13 PM

Kylie looked stunning throughout the whole Aphrodite era.
The album cover, cd single covers and videos, she looked stunning throughout.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 5th February 2020, 11:14 PM

Defo and the aphrodite tour was great aswell. At the time I really didn't think all the lovers would be her last big hit.

Posted by: pippa 6th February 2020, 03:27 PM

Aphrodie Les Folies was an amazing show by Kylie.
The energy was so positive through with strong staging and a set list.
Vocally, Kylie was extremely strong for that tour.

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 7th February 2020, 01:00 AM

Ya very enjoyable, her vocals weren't nearly as strong on the golden tour although still very good.

Posted by: pippa 7th February 2020, 01:02 PM

I think on Golden her vocals are varied, i always feel Kylie struggles vocally on the opening of the Golden song and same with A Lifetime to Repair but she gives a better vocal performance in the second half of both songs.

Posted by: slowdown73 9th February 2020, 12:47 AM

I prefer into the blue.

I think her live vocals aren't as strong as they were but are still good although the x factor performance of a lifetime to repair wasnt great vocally especially in the first half of the song.

I don’t rate get outta my way neither. It was a poor choice of 2nd single. I would have preferred Aphrodite or Put your hands up. Closer or everything is beautiful would also have been good choices.

Nice to see someones else who feels the same about get outta my way, i wouldn't pick everything is beautiful but like all your other choices.

Posted by: pippa 11th February 2020, 02:42 PM

Everything is Beautiful would not be single material but Aphrodite or Put your hands up and Closer would be.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 11th February 2020, 05:17 PM

The suggestion of 'Everything Is Beautiful' as a single. laugh.gif

Posted by: Spiceboy 11th February 2020, 09:57 PM

Easily get out of my way, it was robbed of a top 10 position!

Posted by: aeroco 12th February 2020, 10:25 PM

Aphrodite should have been 2nd or third single. Ah well.

Posted by: Euphorique 13th February 2020, 11:33 AM

GOOMW is probably top5 in her discography for me. It absolutely could smash, but it didnt get anywear near as much radio support as it should've had, and I believe any other song would suffer the same fate for her with little support. No wonder Alesso released a cover of it soon after and it was a big hit.

ITB is fine, but very filler-y for her

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 13th February 2020, 12:06 PM

GOMW's sales have grown quite healthily since it was released, and it's also one of her top streamed!

It has its place, a following and I'd say it's definitely a worthwhile single.

Get Outta My Way – great for so many reasons.
