Shocked there is not a thread for this!?

Anyone else watching this? I watched the first 2 episodes today and really enjoy it.

This has been renewed for a second series wub.gif

It's genuinely so funny! The fire from the end of episode 2 and their reactions rotf.gif

Gonna watch episode 3 now!

Heard lots of great things about this which has been unusual lately for a new UK TV comedy, definitely will have to check it out.

This is f***ing brilliant.

I am a total Michelle.

Posted by: Cameron Feb 4 2018, 09:45 AM

I struggled to not laugh at Erin’s expressions. Especially in Thursdays episode with the ticking

Posted by: Cameron Feb 9 2018, 09:15 PM

Really good final episode, gutted it's done now sad.gif

Although... Season 2 has been commisioned!

Posted by: Shia LeMuffQueef Feb 9 2018, 09:18 PM

It's the best UK comedy in ages, nothing like the turgid laugh-track-driven CRAP like My Family/ Modern Hero? or whatever it was called, that other family one, etc

The mam looks a lot like Zanab from Eastenders.

Posted by: jjake Feb 15 2018, 08:07 AM

michael ur right it truly was utterly fabulous

probably my favourite comedy since ‘nighty night’...and that’s a long gap timewise

i imagine 95% of bj would adore this were they to watch

Posted by: jase. Feb 16 2018, 12:22 AM

Dreams playing at the end of the last episode sad.gif

Posted by: Klaus Feb 25 2018, 10:16 AM

Such a brilliant comedy and show!! Just by the end of the first episode, you feel like you’ve known the characters for at least a full series beforehand and what each of them bring!

The fish shop fire was my favourite moment <3

That’s so true!! She’s been looking very familiar for me, I’m wondering if its because of that??

So am I also, I have been to Derry in the last 18 months, fabulous city, relaxing to walk around.

Only two complaints about the programme is.... 1 it is too short, 30 mins not enough & 2 too few episodes made 6 is not enough...

Tell me about it! Channel 4 stuff is only 23 mins long when you account the time for the adverts too. Hopefully the new series will be on soon!

Would you get freesat in Germany?

That is how I get channel 4 here in the republic of Ireland.

Series 2 trailer just premiered on Twitter: https://twitter.com/nicolacoughlan/status/1095367530460389376?s=19

I am so excited for this already! Loved the first series, it was my favourite new show of last year.

Posted by: gavindeejay Feb 12 2019, 09:20 PM

Grata need. Can’t wait! Really enjoyed he first series so hoping the difficult second series doesn’t disappoint

Still annoys me that I can’t buy season 1 yet

Tuesday March 5th, 9:15pm, Channel 4 biggrin.gif

Posted by: ThePensmith Feb 20 2019, 05:12 PM

How we've not had Series 1 on DVD is yet is criminal. Channel 4 need to - as Ma Mary might say - catch themselves on!

Also, Ardal O'Hanlon - Father Dougal from 'Father Ted' of course - has been confirmed for a guest role this series: https://www.chortle.co.uk/news/2019/02/15/42328/ardal_ohanlon_joins_derry_girls

"I said look sexy, not look like a f***ing blowfish" rotf.gif

"Dreams" being used at the very end of the episode wub.gif

Honestly, Sister Michael is a gift to this show. Likewise Granda Joe 'I heard that KD Lang on the radio. You're very talented you wee lesbians' laugh.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Mar 9 2019, 12:04 AM

Father Peter is hilarious as well - been in a fair few Irish to shows including the classic Love Hate!

Posted by: ThePensmith Mar 12 2019, 10:57 PM

Episode 2 was absolutely ideal tonight. I was especially in hysterics when Ma Mary busted them for raiding the Christmas cupboard ('They've had the very Tunnocks, Mary') laugh.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Mar 13 2019, 11:19 PM

Even better when Tommy Tiernan got the blame haha!

Posted by: Jαsє Mar 19 2019, 10:36 PM

Kinda fancy James.

Posted by: Klaus Mar 24 2019, 10:48 AM

I think that was maybe my favourite episode yet! The bomb disposal omg

Posted by: ThePensmith Mar 24 2019, 06:32 PM

Episode 3 review up on my blog: https://wp.me/p4UO9N-1uU

This week's episode was a gift "I love Robie", "James is riding Gary Barlow" and "I know how much you wanted to see This & That" laugh.gif laugh.gif

Can't believe we're halfway through this series already!

Posted by: ThePensmith Mar 30 2019, 06:32 PM

Episode 4 this week was EVERYTHING: https://alexscsb.com/2019/03/30/crazystupidtv-derry-girls-2x04-the-curse/

Ma Mary telling their Aunt Bridie to 'drop dead you spiteful old hag' and then actually dropping dead. Then trying to steal their late mum's earrings from her coffin at the wake laugh.gif Also Granda Joe eating the 'funny scones' laugh.gif

The show was nominated for a BAFTA this week as well for Best Scripted Comedy.

Posted by: 5 Silas Frøkner Mar 31 2019, 12:35 PM

Colm and Sister Michaels this week laugh.gif

Posted by: Jαsє Apr 2 2019, 11:00 PM

Hilarious yet again. Michelle doesn't even have to speak and I crack up when she's on screen laugh.gif

Absolutely GUTTED it's the last episode next week

EDIT: Scarlett's "Independent Love Song" wub.gif wub.gif

Posted by: Steve201 Apr 3 2019, 09:38 PM

Yeh great episode, loved the wee quips about Donegal people!!

Killybegs is a lovely place really lol.

Posted by: ThePensmith Apr 4 2019, 04:00 PM

Another great episode this week. Michelle is fast becoming to this show what Patsy is to Ab Fab - 'You're a lesbian Clare, not desperate' and 'FY-no gives a shit' laugh.gif laugh.gif

Lots of people have suggested on Twits that Erin and James are being positioned as a potential romance. I can't see it myself for a long term storyline if we get Series 3 but when he turned up to take her to the prom it was a really sweet moment. Likewise when Orla took Granda Joe as her date!

Posted by: ThePensmith Apr 10 2019, 12:28 PM

Brilliant last episode! Uncle Colm and Granda Joe intercepting a taxi rank thinking it was the Clintons laugh.gif And that speech when Michelle said to James he was one of them cry.gif

Channel 4 have just confirmed a third series for next year too! Slainte m'er f'ers!

Posted by: Steve201 Apr 10 2019, 09:57 PM

Yeh was a great last episode especially when they combined Clintons Guildhall speech in 1995 with all the Derry Girls walking off together, great moment. Not sure how big a deal Clintons visit was in the UK but it was massively influential to the Irish peace process for so many reasons. Remember heading to Belfast to see him!

They combined it so well with the story and plenty of laughs as ever!

Posted by: Brett-Butler Apr 10 2019, 10:14 PM

Yes I remember going to see Bill Clinton at City Hall when he switched on the Christmas Lights when I was 5. Not sure if I grasped the significance of it at the time - UTV News held a poll at the time as to whether you wanted the Power Rangers or Bill Clinton to turn on the lights, and I was disappointed that the Power Rangers didn't win (although they did appear at City Hall the week before Bill Clinton arrived, so I got to see them anyway!).

Posted by: Steve201 Apr 10 2019, 10:45 PM

Haha better than eamon Holmes anyway.

I was 12 yo and remember being excited that my mate was allowed to go up with me and we got a McDonalds for dinner!!

Posted by: Jαsє Apr 11 2019, 10:33 PM

We seriously need more than 6 episodes per series seeing as though they're only just over 20 minutes sad.gif

That makes me miss Derry Girls! They are such good comedic actors.

Posted by: J00psyMethyd Jul 8 2020, 05:10 AM

They're doing a third series, right? such a fun series, reminds me of my friends from Derry :')

Posted by: Spiceboy Jul 13 2020, 07:47 PM

I've just binged watched the whole thing on Netflix, absolutely loved it! They get the comedy and those heartfelt moments spot on. wub.gif It reminds me a lot of The beautiful people. Hope there is a 3rd series.

Posted by: WhoOdyssey Jul 15 2020, 09:16 AM

Series 2 has been taken off Netflix after 4 days, it was never supposed to be there to begin with laugh.gif Apparently Netflix don't have the rights to series 2 until series 3 airs, which will be quite a while now!

Posted by: Calum Jul 15 2020, 10:09 AM

Lucky I managed to watch it before it was removed then omg, literally just finished watching it the other night!

Can’t wait for series 3 wub.gif

Posted by: Cameron Jul 15 2020, 10:14 AM

Nicola tweeted saying Season 3 is delayed because of Covid a few weeks back.

Went to the fish and chip shop in Belfast last week where episode 2 was filmed. Glad to report that it isn’t all dolled up with tacky references and memorabilia like some places do after being a filming location and still serves a damn fine fish supper. wub.gif

Series 3 starts next month on Channel 4. The trailer has landed today for St Patrick's Day:

Posted by: ThePensmith Mar 30 2022, 04:31 PM

Series 3 starts Tuesday 12th April - they've just shared a clip from what I'm assuming is the first episode!

I cannot wait!!!! Sad it’s gonna be over tho

Posted by: Herbs Mar 30 2022, 06:30 PM

So looking forward to this - although not looking forward to a reduced amount of Claire

Posted by: Dorothea Mar 30 2022, 09:54 PM

Buzzing for a new series. It is a bit sad it’s the last series but quit while you’re ahead can be particularly relevant to comedy series so could be the best decision.

Posted by: ThePensmith Apr 6 2022, 09:54 PM

Don't know if anyone else has seen this on socials but the team at Heat magazine have bought back Smash Hits - most of whom worked on it originally - for a one off issue to promote the new series that's available this week inside special issues of Heat (or that can be read here: https://www.yumpu.com/en/document/read/66594796/smash-hits-derry-girls)

Great first episode - Liam Neeson as well!

Love how James wears the classic Derry City shirt 😍

Posted by: Herbs Apr 12 2022, 10:09 PM

Great opener to the series

I thought it was Liam Neeson from the silhouette but thought Na it can’t be him! Then he sat down!

Love the use of the Corrs & how they factored in the broken leg!

Posted by: pippa Apr 12 2022, 11:35 PM

Excellent first episode.

I couldn't work out if that was Liam Neeson or just someone who was his double for AGES I didn't expect him to make a cameo laugh.gif I loved the first episode, this series is so light hearted and genuinely funny I feel like it's what everyone needs/can enjoy

first episode was excellent... cannot wait for episode 2 tonight

Posted by: CJK Apr 22 2022, 04:38 PM

Second episode of this was even better than the first one.

You just knew who the Derry Girls were going to be in the Talent Show and when James came out first I just "hollered".

Amazing TV.

Posted by: gooddelta Apr 27 2022, 09:31 AM

Absolutely howling all the way through at the Mary and Aunt Sarah 'guess who' storyline, the display KitKats, and the placement of Riverdance and Mmmbop with the storyline laugh.gif Such a great show.

Posted by: Klaus Apr 29 2022, 06:02 PM

Absolutely love this show, howling with laughter in every episode! Orla and her mum are my absolute favourites.

They’ve just announced an extra feature-length episode focusing on the Good Friday Agreement. Definitely seems a natural end for the show and I’m really excited given how they’ve handled the political issues throughout.

Posted by: Steve201 May 19 2022, 09:28 PM

What did everyone think of the hour long finale?

I thought it was near perfect!

Posted by: gooddelta May 19 2022, 09:46 PM

Very good indeed. Hit in all the right places, emotionally and comedically. Also the use of music was so perfect - Orla's Sunchyme scene, the twice used intro of Ooh Aah...Just A Little Bit to signify the mood of the scene, and So Young as the final song on the credits - of course it had to be that! From 1998 and sums everything up completely.

Posted by: lewistgreen May 19 2022, 11:08 PM

I think I learnt more about the Good Friday Agreement in that hour than I've ever done in my entire life. A great series and finale, a shame to see it end but it went out on a high

Posted by: Steve201 May 19 2022, 11:40 PM

Yeh there was a great mix of politics, culture, and society of the time and as GD said the music was perfect!

Posted by: dannjohn May 20 2022, 10:43 AM

i think more than anything derry girls needs a spin off with just the parents... i know their comedy may not warrant a full series but there is something so special with them and the changes of technology for the family.

it's interesting how Erin went from being relativley girl-next-door narrative to being quite strange... it was nice. an obvious relationship development between her and James and i'm glad it wasn't pursued any further as it seemed to come out of literally nowhere.

it was obvious that Nicola wasn't present for filming during the last episode.

what 'Derry Girls' does so well is the comedy with that underlying context of sadness with war - i haven't seen many that do it (the only other example i can think of is 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas').

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever May 24 2022, 09:22 PM

I never got hugely into the show but the parents for me are the best part about the show, i really enjoyed their scenes.

Posted by: Mack. Jun 8 2022, 11:50 PM

A bit more Derry on C4 next week with a documentary fronted by Jamie-Lee O'Donnell called The Real Derry next Thursday at 10pm.

Posted by: spiceboy Jun 29 2022, 06:33 PM

Just finished the final series and utterly loved it. They got the balance of humour, politics, popular culture and tragedy so right in this show, not sure many if any others have been so consistently brilliant. Found the last episode really emotional in the end I was moved to tears. Pretty sad it’s over but they ended on a total high.
