Ultimate 'Casualties of Streaming' Rate

Believe it or not, we are approaching the 5th anniversary of the chart as we knew it being changed forever with the addition of streaming equivalent sales to the chart! What was perhaps a controversial move at the time quickly became a necessity to keep the chart relevant but this unfortunately meant a lot of great songs (and even more not-so great songs) were denied of a top 40 position. For further insight, you can view http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=218504 and the accompanying links.

In this rate, which follows UK #1s in the Ultimate series, we'll be finding which of these songs most deserved an official top 40 peak... but firstly we need to wade through all the filler. Over 450 songs will be eligible for this contest (to be clear: all the songs below made the top 40 in the sales only chart, but did not in the official chart). These will be randomised and split into 12 groups (any songs that fit the criteria within the month of June 2019 will be placed in the later groups).

2 groups will be open each week. There will be many songs in each group but only the top five will be guaranteed a place in the final whilst the rest of the top 10 will go to the play-off round. In the event where any of these songs do make the official top 40 they will be removed from the competition.

Simply vote from 5 to 10 songs in each group using the Eurovision voting format. If you want to remind yourself of the songs then click on the Spotify playlists provided.

She has three more songs to come too!! I'm surprised the OCC didn't disqualify her but I suppose barely anyone looks at the sales only chart.

Just found out Led Zep didn't have any singles chart in the UK other than a 1997 re-release. Any specific reason for this or were they just one of the original 'album' acts?

Posted by: danG 10th June 2019, 02:48 PM

^^ Led Zeppelin didn't release singles at the time except for that one live version of 'Whole Lotta Love'. They also have 'Stairway To Heaven' as a top 40 hit as it entered in 2007 when they released their stuff to iTunes.

I don't think they ever released any singles in the UK during their original run. According to Wikipedia they did have singles in other countries which is news to me x

Seems like a strange choice as they charted in several other countries, but fair enough tongue.gif

wonder if people just vote for the ones they know
or if people make time to go and listen to all of them repeatedly in order to judagethem properly???

Are there any entries on the list that could still make the top 40?

Ain't nobody got time for that

too bad, I'm making time myself
pity cos there are a bunch of great songs that sure went under the radar and will keep so

Posted by: danG 11th June 2019, 01:12 PM

I just give the songs a skim to remind me how they sound, I'm not expecting people to actually listen to all these songs (and even if we all did the songs we're more familiar with would still get more points).

(next in line: 'Nothing Is Promised', 'Body', High By The Beach', 'Dude', 'Rock And Roll')

-

+8: Sia - Move Your Body (Single Mix)
+7: Bebe Rexha - Last Hurrah

Ah, thank you! One of the best singles I've heard from The Voice.

Ariana lost 6 points to negative voting with 'The Light Is Coming', but would not have made the play-off regardless. Very pleased that Disclosure and Ferreck Dawn & Redondo made the final anyhow, thought both would have been a bit more forgotten now.

4 negative points for Salvador Sobral means he is denied a place in the play-off, though I'm surprised he got as high as he did anyway. A bit of a poor group on the whole but we at least got a good set of finalists out of it.

The infamously hated 'the light is coming' making #11 *.* Nice to see both my +12s, 'Dished' and 'Somebody Else', through, and unexpectedly 'Speeding Cars'. Poor 'Last Hurrah' just missing out.

Great to see twenty one pilots, Disclosure, Lana, Ferreck Dawn and The 1975 straight through! Also very pleased at Paolo at least getting a wildcard, should have sailed through but at least he didn't get completely snubbed. Good for London Grammar and Purple Disco Machine too.

Ew gross at Sigala tho. And a rare Muse song that I don't like at all. Also noooo at Salvador being denied by the -2s </3

Posted by: Stray Cody 19th June 2019, 05:17 AM

lmao FRANS over Last Hurrah? The shit results just keep on coming huh

Group 3 did amazing. If TØP won’t get the appreciation from the BJSC public then at least there’s retribution here
