Ahhhhh!! NOT READY! NOT READY! NOT READY!! Oh wait it's August 2017 already, can safely say I'm beyond ready.

Posted by: Saenerys 9th August 2017, 01:26 PM

This is very much long overdue in my opinion. It's a year next week since Back To You came out and shes done a hell of a lot of recording since then so something should have come sooner drama.gif

Apparently she's shooting the video today in South Africa

Mollie is in Cape Town as seen by her Instagram story so this is a plausible explanation as to why because shes never taken a holiday during or before an important release.

Released 1st September according to her Twitter!

Posted by: Cameron 24th August 2017, 07:56 PM

No

Posted by: Cameron 24th August 2017, 07:56 PM

There is about a 89% chance that this will miss top 40 so I doubt we will see her album

I'd really love to be proved wrong on this but ngl I'd be really surprised if Mollie got a hit with this, whatever the song sad.gif I can actually see it peaking a fair bit higher than 'Back To You' did in because of more awareness of the single due to Strictly and the lower sales in the chart. Tbh as long as she serves us a bop, I'm happy!!

As do I, if Back To You was a bop (even if one I don't go back to much) then I have full confidence that this'll be with an Xenomania production *.* We never know tbh, she could do a Sophie Ellis Bextor or she could do a 'Platinum Pixie: Hits' ;o

She's in today's Fabulous magazine talking about 'Hair Down' and doing Strictly. She says we can expect a big dance routine and an upbeat, party sort of sound (she also acknowledged that the fans were waiting for her to deliver the bangers): https://www.thesun.co.uk/living/4304986/the-saturdays-mollie-king-no-longer-heartbroken-model-ex-david-gandy-prefers-date-americans-over-brits/

Can't believe the album is "75% done" after all this time 😂

Posted by: missingyou 27th August 2017, 11:47 AM

shes probably going with the 75% thing just incase it doesn't get a release.

I adore Back To You, but it wasn't designed to be performed, so I'm glad she is going down the dance routine etc. route. Would be amazing if she got a high profile promotion slot such as actually performing on Strictly. I doubt she would get TXF (which is not the platform it once was anyway) because of Strictly.

There is but there have been many good mods across this site - Hurricane, April, Kath etc, who have gone completely inactive or have been inactive for periods at a time. If you have a particular issue with a mod or how they run a forum stop voicing it publicly here and PM them to tell them, it ruins threads.

"Gotta let my hair down, I just wanna dance now"

The artwork is leaps and bounds ahead of Back To You's and from the sounds of it this could be a really massive track. With the Strictly platform I can see her taking off with this. Of course we'll have a much better idea on Friday, but something about this release feels right so far. Like not overhyping it, etc.

You read my post. You were complaining about mod activity and then I made the point some mods have had similar levels of activity to what this mod team has been like this last week yet I don't see you having gone out your way to isolate any of the examples I raised? Stop trying to cause a fuss, seriously & PM the person and stop point scoring because lately that's all I've seen from people who haven't posted here in a long time and are suddenly posting. I innocently stated I'd been away on holiday hence you'll notice I've not posted next to anything this week and you spun it around on someone who had nothing to do with what I said.

Not you Taylor Swifting this.

I didn;t attack anything or put blame on anyone, what the hell. I have no issue with any of the mods here, I honestly don;t know what you're talking about.

I think its wise move to release at the start of strictly too.. rather than waiting until the show is over, that would be the time to drop the album and a third single.

Just hope she does well enough on SCD to last long enough and raise her profile. I know BTY wasn't massive and that the girls ended on a somewhat low, but she could still nab performance slots on shows like Children In Need, Text Santa, Loose Woman and This Morning.

I do feel it could do a Sarah Harding and have the opposite effect but I'm trying to not think of that happening. Sarah had so many appearances on telly in the lead up to Threads - she had Corrie, Masterchef and I'm sure there was a third? I know Mollie is a lot more popular than Sarah was when she released two years ago so I'm hoping one of those slots you listed is a possibility for her!

Here are some of Back To You's first-week performance stats for comparison's sake come Friday:

UK iTunes in 12-hour intervals: 19-18-22-28-31-36-38-38-39-45-51-51-51-73
Peak on Kworb: 0.2472
Spotify Running Total: 23,366 - 70,491 - 93,616 - 114,025 - 136,162 - 156,864 - 175,774
Average Daily Spotify Streams: 25,111
Spotify Peak: #185

Not sure if this was already mentioned but the recent changes to the chart rules should help her with this release.

The rules have been changed to "freshen up" the chart a bit and make it so that older songs fall out quicker. It also limits how many songs an artist can have charting at once so when someone like Ed Sheeran releases an album, they can't clutter up the singles chart with all their album tracks upon release.

Does anyone remember exactly how many first-week sales BTY got? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

With all due respect that was over ten years ago. Music and the charts have changed a lot since. Streaming, on air releases, the way radio snubs certain types of pop. I predict around #90 - #100 for this.

I don't know if anyone knows the song "Alive" by Krewella, but for some reason I'm imagining the song to chorus to be similar for some reason. Probably because the few lyrics we know would fit in.

I'm guessing early next year followed by the album which makes perfect sense, especially if she goes far in Strictly. 'Hair Down' should technically still be getting pushed until November, we're not going to get a new single in December, right? She will get SWALLOWED up.

Imo the best thing would've been to release 'Hair Down' in early summer, let it build and then release the album in early October during Strictly so she can get a higher album chart position then she might've while sales aren't too high yet.

I would release the album but I doubt Island have enough faith in her and they could lose a fair amount of money. If this flops, the songs planned for the album can go elsewhere.

it basically all depends on how this single does! 'Back To You' really only flopped due to no airplay so maybe her being on Strictly will help that, just need a raunchy bop from her tbh *.*

Posted by: Martyn 30th August 2017, 05:57 AM

The interview says follow up. So I guess it's the follow up to Hair Down? Also if she released another single but no album this year then that's potentially four pre album singles.

A third single followed by an album in January or February would be good.

Posted by: tommie 30th August 2017, 06:23 AM

Realistically, releasing an album in the 4th quarter would just kill her. She's a girl group member from a so-so-successful group trying to make it. There's a reason why Back To You wasn't followed by an album and why there's a year wait between the singles. Obviously, her label wants to go for the one-two punch, potentially three. Even if this is successful I wouldn't except an album before March 2018. Mid-February at a push.

Posted by: Saenerys 30th August 2017, 08:12 AM

I wouldn't object to Q1 release for the album as that would allow time for the follow up to Hair Down (if released) and time for her to finish the album. Still excited for Friday though cheer.gif

Well, from what I hear Hair Down won't fail because of the quality of the track. It's actually probably quite decent.

If her album follows suit then it might be quite good aye pirate.gif

Posted by: ThePensmith 30th August 2017, 02:20 PM

I agree with you tommie, there's nothing to be gained from a Q4 album release for Mollie. I love her but let's be real. Even though this Q4 is set to be quieter than previous years this year, she would still struggle partly because of her credentials - as you say, member of a girl group who were successful but hardly lit the world alight outside the UK. The sensible thing to do is to get this single out there, and get another one ready to go for after Strictly in January, along with the album.

Emma Bunton's 'Life in Mono' got released quite late into Q4 whilst she did Strictly in 2006. 'Downtown' was a big hit because of it's Children in Need connection, yes, but the album foundered, as all the promo was channeled into the single and she had her training for every week to do. Sophie Ellis-Bextor on the other hand waited until Q1 in the new year to release her 'Wanderlust' album after she did Strictly in 2013 and got her biggest album since her debut, just by releasing it when she did, because the profile and interest was still there but she was able to commit herself to promoting and touring it properly. It's all about timing.

Those horns are giving me That's My Girl teas and this is indeed reminiscent of the Spice Girls or even Girls Aloud. Sounds like a bop (and dare I say a smash) and the video looks promising as well! Less than 24 hours now.

Posted by: Liаm 31st August 2017, 02:01 PM

It sounds pretty much what I expected from a Mollie banger, a diet bop but nothing it seems like I'll go mad over, but I'll wait for the full song. The "na na na na na na na" sounded better on its own than this clip with the chorus too laugh.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 31st August 2017, 03:05 PM

The full song is out there (search her name on Twitter) and it's really really good on first listen. This sounds like a cross between Something New and Sexy! No No No with some 2014 horns thrown into the mix, but all for the good of it! Not a hit though, Back to You had more chart potential. It's a shame they farted out all of Back to You's promo within a matter of hours!

Posted by: Liаm 31st August 2017, 03:16 PM

I like it on first listen, it's exactly the sort of pop we don't get much of in the chart but it's welcome. It sounds a bit demoy though, like it could be a leftover from Living For The Weekend or On Your Radar. That's nothing bad on Mollie as she's probably my fave of the gils overall for personality etc., but it just feels like it could have a bit more to it. I agree it's not a hit too but I'd sum it up succintly with "lowkey bop".

I'm still on Australian Spotify and the song itself is a bit of a let down in my honest opinion, it's alright but I just don't think it seems to go anywhere. I think 'Back To You' is far more instant if I'm being honest! I do think 'Hair Down' is very 'Something New' and it sounds like it could be danced to on strictly or on television commercials!

Posted by: AdamAloud 31st August 2017, 05:23 PM

I've been bopping to this for a good hour! Sure, it's gonna do sod all on the charts but this kind of music is bang on what I love. I really hope she gets to release the album.

The music video is pretty good. Definitely feels lower budget than BTY but it's well executed for what it is. I'm impressed that this is neck and neck with Jason Derulo's new release on iTunes.

This is quite the budget mess, but it's so infectious and enjoyable. Like Joseph said, nothing she does is gonna be a hit so she may aswell just go all out pop and this is definitely good fun even if it's not amazingly executed.

The less said about her in the video though, perhaps the better. Very awkward, especially the dancing laugh.gif

Posted by: travis 1st September 2017, 05:53 PM

I really, really love the song. The video is alright, although it would definitely be more enjoyable without all the cheap lens flaring and effects they put over it. The song almost gives me a Girls Aloud vibe? Maybe I'm alone in that, but it gave me the same feeling almost.

Posted by: Mr. C. Joel 1st September 2017, 07:22 PM

Loving the actual song, Video could have actually been decent without the flares and the VERY awkward dancing.

Why do they not make her do the limp moves again or cut the awful dance moves?

It would have been so much better if she didn't do as much dancing and let the actual dancers take over.

It's doing well at 35 on iTunes though, maybe by some miracle it could make top 100.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 1st September 2017, 07:34 PM

I think this really naturally suits her a lot more than 'Back To You' did (as in it's fun, carefree, unpretentious and isn't as reliant on her vocals).

I can't believe I'm addicted to a song by Mollie King. It's all so wrong and that's what is making it so right, from the relentless 'na na na na' sections to the nonsensical lyrics and perfect elocution to the awkward shaking of the backside and giving the camera glances to make sure it's okay.

I'M SO GLAD XENOMANIA ARE MAKING MUSIC AGAIN, this is how I want to feel about pop.

I keep watching the Video too, it's such a mess but I actually like that.

It's such a shame could have scrapped the top 40 if they went all out and paid for hot songs, reduced to 59p.

I knew about neither of these. I did expect a premiere on Radio One at least - regardless whether they'd have played it after that or not after BTY was premiered there. I'm interested as to what promo they've got lined up now after This Morning and Sunday Brunch haven't worked wonders thinking.gif

How big is Heat? They spun Hair Down twice tonight.

Posted by: Saenerys 10th September 2017, 08:25 PM

Not that big - to my knowledge, R1, R2, Heart and Capital are the main ones to watch out for over here in the UK.

Posted by: White Mustang 10th September 2017, 08:29 PM

Even if she'd released something like Hello by Adele she won't get success. It's all about profile rather than the music.

Her label can't afford things like Hot Hits Uk on Spotfiy and Capital radio deals, it's too much of a risk.

Posted by: tommie 10th September 2017, 08:46 PM

I'd say Radio 1 and Capital are the two that are important for single success these days.

Radio 2 and Heart sort of appeals to the older audience that aren't as inclined to get into the new way of buying singles such as streaming and even downloading. Still, Rick Astley had heavy Radio 2 support and he basically got a Platinum album out of it, despite only having one single off the album chart at #127.

Posted by: DaniSpiceBoy 22nd September 2017, 11:04 AM

She's also just released a remix. cheer.gif

Posted by: Juliano 24th September 2017, 12:46 AM

The remix is alright, the original is better.

Posted by: ThePensmith 24th September 2017, 05:32 PM

I've just noticed on Olly Murs' Twitter he's rather liking 'Hair Down' (or the John Gibbons mix of it, anyway). Good taste Olls!

Posted by: Saenerys 25th September 2017, 06:16 PM

Get that promo, Mollie! cheer.gif

59p and strictly effect helping it reenter the top 1500, if only there were some life in this campaign! I'd love her to do what Nadine has announced and do a small radio tour but the impact and schedule of strictly isn't making that at all a viable choice! sad.gif

Yeah, she really can't do both, not anymore at least as they usually only have 4 days to rehearse routines now and Mollie (who admitted herself that she was extremely slow to pick things up) look like she really needs all the time she can get.

I remember Frankie struggling a lot during the weeks the group had activities. :/

That's the trouble with Strictly. It's more all consuming than anybody realises. The minimum training required is 7 hours a day but sometimes it can be even longer than that. I'm pretty sure I saw on Alexandra Burke's Instagram last week one day that her and Gorka didn't finish up their Paso training until 1 o'clock in the morning. It's full on.

Plus when you think of all the VT filming they have to do during the week, go on "It Takes Two" with Zoë, any other promotional stuff...

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd October 2017, 10:46 AM

I'm properly loving this now! Previously the excessive "na na na na na"s would annoy me by the end of the song, but I think I'm over it.

Posted by: Juranamo 3rd October 2017, 12:59 PM

Didn’t realise I hadn’t commented in here yet, out of the current Xenomania bangers, this one is definitely my favourite. It’s just so fun, I’d have expected to prefer ‘Go to Work’!

Both are pretty much as good as anything out at the moment, it’s a crying shame to see them struggle so much. sad.gif

Both are fantastic tracks and as you say it's a shame to see them struggling sad.gif

What would be interesting is seeing how Hair Down would have performed with Nadine singing it and Mollie with Go To Work, as GTW seems to have been doing better, even if it isn't massive.

Posted by: leewallace 6th October 2017, 03:42 PM

The xenomania remix is a banger

Posted by: allfiredup93 12th October 2017, 11:14 PM

Now there’s an acoustic! I swear she’s releasing a new version every week until
The album comes out 😜😂

Posted by: Hurricane 13th October 2017, 01:29 AM

It sounds different, and I like that (I find it more interesting than the Xenomania remix), but I'm not quite sure it works.

Posted by: DoggySwami 13th October 2017, 10:48 AM

It works much better than I expected to be honest.

Posted by: (Zach) 14th October 2017, 01:39 AM

Both remixes were disappointing (it's hard to elevate a song that is already such a banger) and I'm not big on acoustic tracks in general. Please take those back and give us the instrumental version of both singles please and thanks.

Posted by: SeanmanjiGrey 14th October 2017, 07:16 AM

It is easier to hear the actual lyrics in the acoustic version. Loving the guitar accompaniment as well.

Posted by: TheGhostPensmith 14th October 2017, 10:28 PM

So is she actually doing any promo or performances for this now?

LMAO

There's songs from 2006 that are more alive than this ayee pirate.gif

What a horrible flop this turned out to be.

Is she dropped from her label yet? Nadine needs company.

I don’t know why a major label would sign her an expect hits?

Vanessa has some bops tbh it is just not the pop y'all were hoping for

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 18th February 2018, 08:10 PM

I'd love to see Mollie continue, but from a business perspective for whoever has funded her so far is it going to be a worthwhile venture? I can't imagine anyone investing their time or money into it for what must be fairly negative returns revenue wise.

Posted by: Cameron 18th February 2018, 08:38 PM

Why the hell they released THIS if they wanted to try and get her a hit is beyond me.

I agree. The verses don't sound...professional? Something about them sounds cheap and ruined the song's chances of getting any radio play. The na na na part is catchy as hell though and had other parts of the song been tweaked, it really could've had some hit potential.

Posted by: Frooot 20th February 2018, 12:09 AM

'Back To You' really could have been a moderate top forty hit had it been promoted properly laugh.gif

The fact that it went top sixteen on iTunes was incredibly impressive, I can't help but think had it been 59p from the start or 59p the following week with live performances then it actually could have at least managed to be more successful than 'What Are You Waiting For'. It also didn't help that 'Back To You' had NO Spotify exposure either but 'Back To You' is still an actual cute pop song with a rather brilliant video.

Posted by: Juliano 20th February 2018, 02:28 PM

Back To You was one of my favourite pop songs of 2016, Hair Down was.... a choice. I was so ready for Good Girl, that sounded like hit banger potential.

Posted by: SGrey 20th February 2018, 06:44 PM

It's interesting seeing the reception to this nearly half a year on since it was released. I still absolutely love it and have even set it as my alarm ringtone! laugh.gif there really is something quite simple but addictive to it - especially the "na na na na na na" parts.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 20th February 2018, 07:19 PM

I still think the fact Mollie even got herself a top 100 single is a pretty incredible achievement in itself. I don't think anyone involved in 'Hair Down' must have been under any illusion it stood any chance whatsoever... maybe they did it for fun or something?

I prefer to listen to 'Hair Down', the flat chorus of 'Back To You' really jars for me these days.

Posted by: Prettylittlebry 31st May 2019, 07:53 AM

Hair Down has been removed from Spotify

Posted by: tommie 31st May 2019, 10:38 AM

LOL, what's the point of removing a song from Spotify? All that's going to do is actually lose the only way to legally make money off it... is she just going to pretend her solo career didn't happen?

Posted by: (Zach) 31st May 2019, 02:17 PM

Not surprised, they took it off YouTube ages ago.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 31st May 2019, 02:38 PM

I can only assume she's suddenly gotten embarrassed this exists and demanded it got removed from existence? laugh.gif

It's a shame though.

Posted by: Saenerys 31st May 2019, 02:40 PM

I don’t think she’ll have been embarrassed by it I think it’ll be more the label than her choice.

Posted by: tommie 31st May 2019, 05:22 PM

Why would they randomly pull it though? It's not as if she's doing more solo music by any account.

I assume it might be an issue with Xenomania? Have anyone seen if any of their other tracks they've done with artists have been pulled?

Posted by: miichaelking21 1st June 2019, 06:49 PM

just gonna convince myself that she’s brought the rights to it from Island to release her solo album independently

Posted by: *Tim 2nd June 2019, 12:13 PM

Edit: It's still on Dutch spotify

Back to you deserved to be a smash.

Radio support and it would have went top 40 and the video >>>

Posted by: Juliano 2nd June 2019, 10:33 PM

Back To You is a masterpiece. Hair Down wasn't.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 3rd June 2019, 10:43 AM

I did like 'Back to You' a bit at the time, but it is a really quite flat song really. At least 'Hair Down' is a bit of (albeit slightly cringy) fun.

Posted by: Saenerys 3rd June 2019, 09:09 PM

Both are great but Back To You if any in a parallel universe would be the bigger song.
