Watched the performance. The problem is Darius tried to make Hit Me Baby One More Time too different to the original. It was the arrangement he did of the song rather that the song not being suited for his singing style that made it a poor cover.

Forgot Darius had such a strong Scottish accent while speaking!

'Forget the spiel' from Nigel, so rude sad.gif

He's no arranger. That's why his songs are acoustic or co-written.

Yes, but I am talking about how he tried to make the song different didn't really work very well, there were too many fluctuations I think in his singing style throughout his cover of the song and it didn't flow very well. It is far from the worst cover of a song on a talent show though, I prefer the Darius version of hit Me Baby One More Time on Popstars than a singer doing vocal acrobatics and oversinging it.

Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. He treated his dismissal with dignity at the time and the media bombardment and public humiliation and vilification which followed as a learning curve. But my, what a harsh lesson!

What he learned probably helped him master the heights and depths of his career more easily.

I was shocked when Will Young's Strictly venture revealed what a dreadful time he'd had at the very height of his success. He always seemed so assured and outgoing to me.
