Swindon Town say they have rejected an approach from Blackpool to speak to manager Richie Wellens, who has signed a new three-and-a-half-year deal with the League Two leaders.

Wellens, 39, took charge of the Robins in November 2018 and his side are two points clear at the top of the table.

Cambridge United have named caretaker boss Mark Bonner as their head coach until the end of the 2021-22 season.

The 34-year-old has been in temporary charge since Colin Calderwood left the League Two club on 29 January, winning four of their seven matches.

Bonner has been academy manager, first-team coach and assistant boss with the U's, who are 16th in the fourth tier.

Cheltenham Town captain Ben Tozer does not think it is possible for football to safely resume this season and fears returning too soon could put his pregnant wife and unborn child at risk.

League 2 teams have voted to end the season now and use a weighted points-per-game system to finalise the table, pending ratification from the EFL and Football Association.

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace says there is "no integrity" in plans for a League Two club to be relegated on a points-per-game ratio.

The EFL's "recommended framework" would see promotion and relegation still happen between their divisions if they are ended because of coronavirus.

League Two clubs have "unanimously indicated" their desire to cancel the remainder of the campaign.

Stevenage would finish bottom if places are decided on a points-per-game basis.

Wallace said: "I don't see any integrity in arbitrarily forcing relegation on any club that has every reasonable chance of avoiding it by playing, but is denied the opportunity to do so."

Northampton, Colchester and Cheltenham plan to restart group training in the next week as they begin to prepare for their prospective League Two play-offs.

Fourth-tier sides chose to end the regular season in an indicative vote on 15 May, which is still to be ratified.

If the table is to be decided on points per game, Exeter City would take the other play-off spot.

Grimsby Town midfielder Elliott Whitehouse has been banned for six games and fined £2,000 for using abusive language towards an opponent.

The 26-year-old was charged following an incident in the 72nd minute of his side's League Two game with Northampton Town on 23 November 2019.

Whitehouse used a derogatory term to Northampton midfielder Alan McCormack.

Macclesfield Town will remain in the English Football League despite a two-point deduction for breaches of regulations over non-payment of wages.

A deduction of three points or more by an independent panel would have seen the Silkmen drop below Stevenage and be relegated into the National League.

The decision leaves Macclesfield 23rd in League Two after the application of the points-per-game formula agreed by clubs earlier this month.

They have also been fined £20,000.

Stevenage chairman Phil Wallace says the club are not yet ready to give up their fight against "a forced, artificial" relegation from League Two.

One of their last hopes seemed to disappear on Friday when a disciplinary panel docked Macclesfield Town two points for late payment of wages.

The decision meant the Silkmen remained one point above Stevenage at the foot of the adjusted 2019-20 table.

"Is it over? No, it's most definitely not," Wallace told the club website.

"We will be looking closely at that with our legal advisors this coming week when we see the reasons and we will have to see where it goes from there."

Northampton Town produced a pulsating fightback to overturn a two-goal deficit from the first leg and stun Cheltenham Town to reach the League Two play-off final.

Seemingly with it all to do after Thursday's 2-0 home defeat, Keith Curle's Cobblers scored three times without reply at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium to clinch a meeting with Exeter City in the behind-closed-doors final at Wembley on 29 June.

Northampton being promoted would be quite the shock! Feel a bit sorry on Cheltenham though, they were so close to #1 with a game in hand!

And Northampton Town are promoted with Carlisle United's former manager (sorry, had to point that out). What is it with Exeter and play-offs?

Well done Northampton Town. party2.gif
