The bottom 5 kick start us off. At 31 we have Kelly's 2nd single 'Low' which served as the Double A-Side in the UK, with 'The Trouble With Love Is', which is at the very bottom of this pack. A very surprising result with that! I honestly thought low top 30 for that, but to see it finish dead last was a surprise to me! Low is the perfect song to proceed with the 'Breakaway' vibe. Her surprising collab with X Factor winner Ben Haenow finished about where I expected, which is a shame as it's a cute bop! Her getting pregnant and cancelling all promo for this though </3 The 2nd official single from the 'My December' era finished at #33. 'Don't Waste Your Time' was a good single choice I think, but unfortunately it wasn't enough to salvage the MD era sad.gif & finally we have the Vince Gill country collab, 'Don't Rush'. It's alright. She's had far better though and I honestly think this probably should have finished last. It's quite forgettable.

Posted by: Riser 1st February 2020, 05:24 AM

I wasn't prepared to see Low go out already!

Posted by: Cameron 2nd February 2020, 08:14 PM

All bops tbf, I love her discography

Posted by: Lukuzz 2nd February 2020, 09:04 PM

Some amazing songs there. Poor TTWLI one of my all time faves tbh it's so underrated

Up next we have one of her stand alone Christmas singles. 'Christmas Eve' is such a banger. It's literally UTT little baby sister. It's so upbeat, fun & catchy. I'm sad (but not surprised) that it's so low. 'Heat' is another banger. I think this was only a radio single in the US? But I imagine had it been the lead to the album it would've done a bit better than LSS did/I'd have expected a bit more support for it from the adult contemporary stations. At 28 is the 2nd single from the Piece By Piece album, the Sia co-write of 'Invincible'. It's predictable Sia-by-numbers tbh. It's a bit too MOR for me though. I feel like it's in roughly the right position, personally. But it received quite a few 10's so some of y'all love it! Up next is her soundtrack B O P 'Broken & Beautiful' which served as the lead single to flop animation movie 'UglyDolls', which Kelly took the starring voice role in. The song is such a cute bop. And rounding off this section is the fun 'I Do Not Hook Up' which served as the 2nd single to her 'All I Ever Wanted' album. It ended up being a bit of a flop in comparison to the albums lead single, 'My Life Would Suck Without You'. Probably due to it being an obvious Katy Perry left-over. It's a fun song though. The video was fun too!

30-27 is a WHAT

Heat is legit fab, and Invincible is so underrated

Posted by: WinterFreeze 4th February 2020, 10:20 PM

I Do Not Hook Up is pretty average. Would have preferred a few other songs get the single treatment over that from the album.

Posted by: Jonjo 5th February 2020, 12:48 AM

Same! That era should've been...

01. My Life Would Suck Without You
02. Don't Let Me Stop You
03. Already Gone
04. If I Can't Have You
05. Cry
06. *radio only single* All I Ever Wanted

I Do Not.. really is bottom 5 of the album, isn't it? cry.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 5th February 2020, 02:13 AM

I also never got why I Do Not Hook Up was a single.

Cry and Already Gone deserves to slay! And definitely deserved a single push before that.

It sounds very pre Teenage Dream Katy (she did write it though didn’t she laugh.gif ).

Kelly's debut & coronation single after storming to victory in American Idol is at #25. 'A Moment Like This' was relatively unknown to a lot of the UK, until it was used as Leona's coronation single 5 years later! A song Kelly always seems grateful for, but doesn't seem too bothered about ever performing again. At #24 is the relatively unknown cover of the Hamilton song 'It's Quiet Uptown'. The video I posted above is one of my favourite Kelly performances. THE EMOTION. THE VOCALS. THE POWER. (Yes I'm trying to get as many people to watch and listen to that as humanly possible!) 'Mr Know It All' falls out at #23 and is the receiver of the sole -1 score of the entire rate! It's such a great song. Quite clever lyrics! Her HUGE country smash hit with Jason Aldean, 'Don't You Wanna Stay' is next at #22. A song I think I appreciate more and more every time I listen. Gorgeous! Finishing off the section is her cover of 'The Greatest Showman' powerhouse 'Never Enough'. The best cover off the reimagining soundtrack ofc.

Kick starting the top 20 is the 2nd single to be taken from Kelly's Christmas album, the title track, 'Wrapped In Red'. It has such a classic, Christmassy vibe to it. Stunning song. At #19 and the first of a 3-way tie, is the song that launched her into become a world wide name, the Christina Aguilera penned track, 'Miss Independent'. Kelly has said numerous times that this is her most favourite song to perform live, even still. You can tell too, because you can see it in her performance that she loves this song so much. Finishing 2nd in this tie is, rather surprisingly, 'Love So Soft'. I'd have thought MI would have been higher than this tbh, but nope. LSS is cute, but I can't help but feel it wasn't lead single material </3 THAT NOTE THOUGH. SLAY. Finishing the tie and again, a bit of a surprise finishing higher than MI, is 'I Don't Think About You'. One of the absolute highlights from her 'Meaning Of Life' album. One of her absolute BEST vocal performances and one of her best ballads. Absolute perfection. So gorgeous. At #16 and finishing off this section is the single that wasn't really a single? Something must've happened to this coz I don't think it was a hit, anywhere? But 'People Like Us' seemed to prove itself as a really popular track when the Greatest Hits came out. It got a video and was pushed slightly but made little to no impact! It's a shame because, although it's very clear that they were tryna aim for another track in a similar vein to 'Stronger', it's a banger. Underrated.

1 Breakaway
2 Since U Been Gone
3 MLWSWY (my personal favourite)
4 Stronger
5 Beneath These Hazel Eyes/Piece By Piece

7 Heartbeat Song
Top 5 predict, I feel like Dark Side will just scrape into the Top 10

I listened to 'Love So Soft' for the first time since it was out when rating this, it really is lame isn't it?

At #15 we have the mega underrated & (shockingly) a CLUB BANGER in 'Heartbeat Song'. Honestly, experience this in a club on a night out and try not to lose your shit. The thing that made it pop awf even more for me was seeing the locals genuinely loving it and singing along to it! What a song heart.gif We have 'Dark Side' at #14. A song which I find "okay" but there really is far superior choices on the 'Stronger' album to choose as singles, imo. But there seemed to be a rather random and sudden surge in love for this song recently, which is cool. At #13 is the first song in our countdown to receive at least one 11 (it received 4) and it's the devastatingly beautiful 'Sober'. In my top 5 songs of all time I think. Just SO much raw emotion and it really struck a chord with me the moment I heard the 'My December' album. Breathtaking. I'm not sure where it was a single, but apparently it was so it got a late addition into the rate laugh.gif At #12 we have the far superior version of 'Halo'. 'Already Gone' was destined to be a huge hit WW. It was really big in the US, iirc, but most other places and it didn't have much impact at all. One of her very best songs! Rumour has it that Beyonce heard AG and wanted a version of it for herself so hit Ryan up and asked him to make a similar song. He made a carbon copy, just a bit more hollow in it's production and vocal delivery. So she managed to get her version out as a single right before Kelly and Kelly was not happy </3 'Never Again' finishes at #11 in this rate. The song that kick started the 'My December' campaign. It's such an angsty song! Loved seeing this feistier side to Kelly. So much sass in this from her!

Here's the top 10:

(Alphabetical)

01. Because Of You
02. Behind These Hazel Eyes
03. Breakaway
04. Catch My Breath
05. My Life Would Suck Without You
06. Piece By Piece
07. Since U Been Gone
08. Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)
09. Underneath the Tree
10. Walk Away

What will win? Who still has their faves in?

CATCH MY BREATH IN THE TOP 10!!! That's really surprised me. ohmy.gif The rest I don't think are that surprising. But WHAT A LIST!!

Posted by: kye 12th February 2020, 03:11 PM

the top 10 looks fab - i’d have preferred heartbeat song over catch my breath but they’re both great so can’t complain.

SO glad sober is out. great song but not in her top 10.

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 12th February 2020, 03:19 PM

Been so in love with 'Dark Side' recently, although I did always quite like it - it's just hit me out of nowhere.

Posted by: Lukuzz 12th February 2020, 06:41 PM

Both Sober and Never Again should have been top 10 but I'm obsessed with the My December era

Posted by: Bré 12th February 2020, 10:46 PM

Wtf even are these results. Literally all of her songs that I actually like are gone already (except 'Breakaway' I guess). 'Mr. Know It All' came 23rd behind some random Jason Aldean collab?!

You all goofed. Insert Bjork meme about fixing results.

(I obvz didn't take part in this but just browsing results out of interest kink.gif)

CATCH MY BREATH [8.53]

Highest: Prettylittlebry, SamJudd, Tawdry Hepburn, ...ready for it, gavindeejay, Mullo & West (10); Cameron & Riser (09.5) + Lukuzz, Spiceboy, WinterFreeze & slowdown73 (09)
Lowest: RobS (05) + vibe (06)

Starting off the top 10 at #10 is the first of 2 songs in the top 10 to not receive a score of "11"! Catch My Breath was released as the first single from Kelly's Greatest Hits: Chapter One collection. It's a song that allows Kelly to reflect on her career and "catch [her] breath" as she takes a walk down memory lane. It's actually a beautiful song and the perfect kind of song to kick off a Greatest Hits collection. It's a modern pop song, with a Country twang to it. Beautiful.

Posted by: Bjork 13th February 2020, 10:16 AM

UTT and Walk Away are the 2 odd ones in the top 10 for me
don't think they're top 10 material above much better songs like Dark Side, Already Gone, Never Again, Miss Independence or Mr Know It All

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 13th February 2020, 10:50 AM

'Catch My Breath' is so magnificent. wub.gif I genuinely rate that among her best. Powerful, catchy, empowering! Everything I like about Kelly in a song.

Deserved much more in the UK chart.

WALK AWAY [8.68]

Highest: Mullo (11) + Prettylittlebry, Spiceboy, NickF1, RobS, Riser & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: ...ready for it & Bjork (06) + Tawdry Hepburn, jszmiles & Eduardo (07)

Next at 9, is the 4th single to be taken from Kelly's 2nd album Breakaway (the first of FIVE singles from that album to appear!) and it's the infectiously, catchy Walk Away. My favourite thing about this song is the irresistably, feel-good video. Such a brilliant idea for this song that was all too relatable. Surely we've all been guilty of doing such things when we hear our favourite songs on the radio? Plus Kelly looks FIRE in the video. Such an angsty, yet commercially appealing song. No matter what was chosen as the 4th single in the campaign, it was gonna be a banger, regardless.

Posted by: Riser 13th February 2020, 12:49 PM

I'm pleasantly surprised to see I Don't Think About You as the highest from her last album, beating Love So Soft on a tiebreak! ohmy.gif

Edit: Catch My Breath and Walk Away are both major faves, very glad to see both top 10 wub.gif

Posted by: Rob S 13th February 2020, 02:22 PM

Walk Away wub.gif the video is awesome and was the right song to follow Because of You imo.

Would have put Already Gone above Catch My Breath though!

BREAKAWAY [8.74]

Highest: gavindeejay & Riser (11) + vibe, Liam, jszmiles, Cameron, West & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: WinterFreeze (06); ...ready for it, slowdown73, Bjork & Mullo (07) + HarryEzra (07.5)

The 2nd of 5 singles from the Breakaway album is eliminated in 8th place. The title track is a soaring, empowering, pop, rock ballad. It was used as the lead single in the US, to promote the movie 'The Princess Diaries 2'. However, it ended up being the 5th and final single from the era here in the UK. By that point the album had sold around 1 million copies in the UK alone, however it still went on to be a successful single for Kelly. Reaching #22 and spending 8 weeks in the top 75! A big achievement for a 5th single from an album that had sold so much! Such a gorgeous song.

Posted by: Lukuzz 14th February 2020, 06:26 PM

I mean I love every song now. Catch my breath is fantastic. Walk Away is great I genuinely prefer it to Since U been gone which I think is similar vain. Breakaway at the time I wasn't rely bothered about but un recent years it's a song I always go back to when feeling down and it's such a mood up lifter for me

STRONGER (WHAT DOESN'T KILL YOU) [8.88]

Highest: Spiceboy, Pippa & West (11) + SamJudd, Liam, WinterFreeze, Eduardo, Cameron, kye, Rob S, gavindeejay, Bjork & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: jszmiles (03); George.keh (04.5)

At #7 is the pop masterpiece, Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You). This followed Mr Know It All as the second single from the album with the same name (minus the parts in brackets - which were added for the singles release). It went on to become her biggest hit since My Life Would Suck Without You as it hit top 10 in the UK, top 3 in Canada and went to number 1 in the US! Such a banging song and (obviously) the PERFECT choice to be 2nd single. It was a huge radio hit everywhere it was released and showed that Kelly still had whatever it took to get a hit.

Posted by: coi 15th February 2020, 12:19 AM

A shame that Breakaway couldn't finish above Stronger but other than that still good!

MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU [8.94]

Highest: SamJudd (11) + Jonjo, Liam, Spiceboy, jszmiles, George.keh, Cameron, Rob S, Bjork, West & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: Lukuzz, WinterFreeze & gavindeejay (07)

Missing the top 5 is the song that gave Kelly her first ever (& currently only </3) UK number 1! My Life Would Suck Without You went on to become her biggest ever hit (at the time) peaking at #1 here in the UK, Canada and the US where she recorded the biggest jump to number 1 in Hot 100 history as it went from #97 to #1 the week after! It was the 2nd time she set that record as her coronation single jumped from #52 to #1 in 2002, which was the biggest at the time. It went on to become a huge global smash for her and I was responsible for playing it on repeat the day of it's radio premiere over 150 times :') LEGENDARY times! I'm STILL not bored of it and it IS one of the greatest pop songs of all time, imo. Masterpiece <3

Posted by: Jonjo 15th February 2020, 12:36 AM

And your top 5 is:

(Alphabetical)

01. Because Of You
02. Behind These Hazel Eyes
03. Piece By Piece
04. Since U Been Gone
05. Underneath the Tree

One of these songs didn't receive an "11". Will it be the winner of this rate? ohmy.gif

Posted by: coi 15th February 2020, 12:37 AM

My Life Would Suck Without You should have been much higher!

Posted by: Riser 15th February 2020, 02:07 AM

I thought 'Stronger' would be a contender to win, but I'm glad to see it out already! It's great that it was one of her biggest hits but I wouldn't call it one of her best.

UNDERNEATH THE TREE [9.01]

Highest: Prettylittlebry, Lukuzz, SamJudd, Jonjo, Tawdry Hepburn, SpiceBoy, WinterFreeze, George.keh, Cameron, kye, Rob S, gavindeejay, Adam & Beautiful Ghosts (10) + ...ready for it, Liam, slowdown73, NickF1, Mullo, West & HarryEzra (09)
Lowest: jszmiles (05) + vibe & Bjork (06)

ALL THOSE 10'S (but no 11's). Which means it's the highest placing for a song to be without receiving a top score of 11! Underneath The Tree is the lead single and was taken from Kelly's Christmas album, Wrapped In Red. Each year, this song seems to be growing in popularity with the Christmas just gone getting it a brand new peak of #21. Proving it's potential as a Christmas classic in the years to come. It's my favourite Christmas song in a long, LONG time. Probably beating Mariah for me, personally. So joyous & uplifting. It's just so Christmassy and gets me in the mood for Christmas every time I listen to it. Future classic (if it's not already considered as one) for SURE. <3

LOVE the fact that we have cemented UTT as a Christmas classic.

Posted by: Bjork 15th February 2020, 07:54 PM

shocked Stronger and MLWSWY missed the top 5!!! Really thought Stronger could even win

not a fan of UTT, too over the top, I wouldn't even put it in my Kelly top 20

PIECE BY PIECE [9.07]

Highest: WinterFreeze & Bjork (11) + Prettylittlebry, Lukuzz, SamJudd, Jonjo, Liam, Spiceboy, Eduardo, George.keh, Mullo & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: jszmiles (05) + gavindeejay (06)

Up next at #4 is Piece By Piece. The song never really took off on radio, up until her performance of the song on (the then) final series of American Idol, went viral. The clip is her breaking down through the song, but composing herself every time to get back on track so professionally. The song is extremely personable to Kelly as it's about her father, who walked out on her, her sister and her mother back when Kelly was a child. She's often said it's the sequel to Because Of You, but with a happy ending as she goes on to sing about how she's finally found a man that won't do to her daughter what her father did to her. Such a beautiful song and it's a song that I've always appreciated and adored since listening to the album, so when I woke up and saw that she was number 1 on US iTunes and climbing iTunes here in the UK I was ecstatic. The song went top 30 in the UK and number 8 in the US as a result of it. Thoroughly deserved. heart.gif

So we have a top 3 consisting of Breakaway era singles!

Because Of You vs Behind These Hazel Eye vs Since U Been Gone

Which one wins.

Find out tomorrow! biggrin.gif

Posted by: Prettylittlebry 16th February 2020, 09:07 AM

I’m hoping BTHE wins!

Posted by: Bjork 16th February 2020, 09:23 AM

oh really thought Piece by Piece could win, that was my 11, that performance on XF...

how is Behind This Hazel Eyes in the top 3? wouldn't put it on my top 5, low top 10 would be its right place

Posted by: Mack. 16th February 2020, 12:39 PM

To win it should be Since U Been Gone out of the three left.

Posted by: Lukuzz 16th February 2020, 01:25 PM

Glad MLWSWY missed the top 5, one of very few Kelly Singles that didn't really do it for me, her most generic song imo.
The top 5 are all brilliant songs. A top 3 from Breakaway is deserving, I hope BOY or BTHE wins

Posted by: Liаm 16th February 2020, 01:28 PM

UTT is definitely a bit high, glad to see Piece By Piece tho wub.gif Any of those 3 would be amazing winners but BTHE edges it for me.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 16th February 2020, 02:23 PM

Since U Been Gone to win for me but all 3 are what I’d call amazing tracks.

Personally for me though I sort of wanted Stronger to win but looking at this just makes you realise how many solid tracks she has!

SINCE U BEEN GONE [9.44]

Highest: Tawdry Hepburn, vibe & kye (11) + SamJudd, Jonjo, Liam, Spiceboy, WinterFreeze, jszmiles, Eduardo, Cameron, Rob S, gavindeejay, Bjork & Beautiful Ghosts (10)
Lowest: Pippa (07) + Riser (07.5)

At number 3, we have the song that catapulted Kelly into global superstar. Since U Been Gone was the 2nd single the US, but it was the international launch elsewhere. The single went on to become one of the biggest worldwide hits of 2005 and kick started the hugely successful Breakaway era in many territories. This is a huge, empowering, break-up pop-rock song. Helmed by the Godfather of Pop himself, Max Martin, it's gone on to become (arguably?) Kelly's signature hit. This is the song everyone thinks of first when they hear Kelly's name, I think. I remember hearing this for the first time on an early C4 music show called 'B4' (remember that! LMAO) and I was HOOKED ever since. I became a "stan" that very moment. WHAT A MOMENT in pop though. The LAUNCH of the Kelly Clarkson heart.gif

BANGER!

BTHE to win please!

Posted by: Prettylittlebry 16th February 2020, 04:50 PM

Wasn’t sold on SUBG when it first came out, it was BTHE that made me a stan but SUBG has grown on me more and more over the years. Definitely a staple of the 00s!

AND THE WINNER IS......

......

BECAUSE OF YOU

VS

BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES

.....

.....

HERE GOES:

BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES [9.46]

Highest: Prettylittlebry, Liam, Cameron & Adam (11) + Lukuzz, SamJudd, Jonjo, Tawdry Hepburn, vibe, Eduardo, NickF1, kye, Rob S, gavindeejay, West, Beautiful Ghosts & HarryEzra (10)
Lowest: Mullo (06) + Pippa (07)

In the runner's up position is the 3rd US & 2nd international single from the Breakaway era, Behind These Hazel Eyes. Another storming, angsty pop-rock anthem. The song went on to become another huge hit for Kelly and helped solidify her name as one of the big pop girls at the time. This song seemed to have a bit of a more rockier vibe and edge to it than SUBG did and I imagine it's what made Kelly "cool" at the time (as that sound was very much in vogue at this point). The video is stellar too. The whole vibe and mood of it suited the song perfectly and honestly, I don't think I know a more suitable song/video combat punch. It was so well done. One of the more underrated videos of the 00's imo. In fact this song seems to be more forgotten amongst the general public and seems ridiculously underrated in general, which is a shame. It was this song that got me listening to her album and simultaneously birthed the moment I found my favourite album of all time. An almighty BANGER.

W I N N E R

BECAUSE OF YOU [9.74]

Highest: ...ready for it, George.keh, Rob S & Beautiful Ghosts (11) + Prettylittlebry, Lukuzz, SamJudd, Jonjo, Liam, Spiceboy, WinterFreeze, Eduardo, Cameron, kye, gavindeejay, Bjork, Pippa & HarryEzra (10)
Lowest: jszmiles (07) + NickF1 (08.5)

So, there we have it. The WINNER of the Kelly Clarkson Singles Rate 2020. Because Of You is a modern day power pop-rock ballad. It's got a very classic vibe to it and it's not hard to see why it's still such a huge radio staple to this day. One of my all time favourite vocal performances on a track. Just breath taking, powerful, emotional... EVERYTHING. One of the very best vocalists of all time, imo. Voice of a generation. Kelly wrote it when she was young about her mum and dad getting a divorce. If only she knew then, that she'd written a 21st Century masterpiece. I think it says a lot when not only did this song not receive a score lower than 7 (ONE person + one more at 8.5! - everyone else was 9 or above) but we have the 3 biggest songs from the Breakaway era in the top 3 of the rate (with the other 2 singles top 10!) and with really big averages, which is a testament to not only how good her album is (like I said previously - my favourite of all time) but is surely one of the greatest (if not THE best) singles runs of all time. Magnificent. wub.gif

Probably because most people would disagree with you on that one.

for me, Since U Been Gone or Stronger are more positive anthemic songs
than Behind These Hazel Eyes
