This was a really strong year imo, the top 3 are always changing for me!

1 Judi Dench
2 Meryl Streep
3 Cate Blanchett
4 Amy Adams
5 Sandra Bullock

Philomena is easily my favourite Dench role and a big reason as to why I loved the film so much, she had me moved to tears at times (she can portray loads of emotion on only her face) and laughing at others. Meryl is not far behind though, I know a lot of people say that this is one of her lazier roles but she's a massive scene stealer imo and really funny at times too, perhaps a little over the top but she makes the film what it is. Cate is always fab and Jasmine is definitely one of her best roles, I loved the screenplay too, it's a shame that film never received more awards attention! Adams was decent in AH and I thought her character was a lot of fun but Lawrence was easily the cast highlight in that film for me so perhaps she was a little overshadowed. Same with Sandra Bullock really for me as my attention was always on the effects and the settings rather than her performance.

I've not seen many of the other contenders and it's a strong top 5 anyway but it is a shame Emma Thompson missed out after hitting all the precursors, it would have been nice to see her back after almost two decades without a nomination!

I thought Cate was good, but more in a "best performance in a fairly average movie" kind of way. Certainly not Oscar winningly good. Meryl was a bit by the numbers
too. Judi was sublime and Sandra was pretty solid. Amy is obv my top choice, but for Her over AH.

I'd personally put Emma in too. She made that movie.
