As we all know Gary and Eliot have been writing the musical score for Finding Neverland over the last few months. Last night was the first preview of the show in Boston...
The musical was very well received, as was the music itself http://www.bostonmagazine.com/arts-enterta...3ilVMZA.twitter |

Here is Rita singing Play, written by Gary and Eliot for FN:
https://screen.yahoo.com/music/play-215836844.html In my opinion, Rita didn't sound so well. The song is good, but the performance is a bit of a mess. And M. Morrison singing Neverland: https://screen.yahoo.com/music/neverland-190647175.html But, to be honest, I prefer the song written for Around the World in 80 days and sung by Nicole. It's really catchy: https://screen.yahoo.com/him-193049409.html...&soc_trk=tw My favorite so far remains When Your Feet Don't Touch the Ground. |

Sorry I don't know how to link but some clips are coming through of Gary singing at a London event to introduce Finding Neverland. In the one clip ( Neverland) Gary sounds absolutely wonderful, he really does and the song sounds quite beautiful. I've heard some clips of Matthew Morrison and I'm not sure about him in the title role to be honest. I think they missed a trick in letting Jeremy Jordan go as he was magical in the role and far stronger than Matthew in the clips I've seen off him. On a side note the Neverland song has a similar quality to RTW in my opinion and I would love to hear a TT take on it. |

I absolutely love Gary's take on these songs. The performance is not flawless, but it's so charged emotionally that it gives me goosebumps:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-IYX4KxNzYg#t=13 I agree. Jeremy Jordan seemed a much better choice for FN. I'm not impressed with Matthew Morrison after seeing some rehearsal videos and after his pre-Oscars performance. His voice sounds quite weak. |

Superb
I do worry though that this involvement is overshadowing TT promo and such. It's opening night is 9 days into the tour |

FN is probably overshadowing TT at the moment, but it's only natural. Success on Broadway could come once in a lifetime, I can't blame Gary for putting his heart and soul into it. I'm very excited myself, probably even more than about the tour.
But I'm sure that, when the tour begins, Gary will focus on it and nothing else. |

On a side note Gary met up with US TT fans at a restaurant before the opening night of Finding Neverland - nice gesture. Hope reviews are good tomorrow. |

It seems the opening night went very well with a standing ovation. Hopefully the momentum continues and the theatre reviews are positive because so often they can make or break a show. |

Fingers crossed it all goes well with the official opening today. Reviews have been decidedly mixed on US theatre forums so I hope that's not an indication of what's to come. Reading between the lines many people adore the music, whilst some hate its pop vibe.
Based on this the critics reviews could be very mixed and it may be one of those musicals which doesn't garner critical acclaim but has wide popular appeal. A bit like Take That !! |
