BuzzJack Music Forum _ Dua Lipa _ Be The One • First Single

Posted by: Ryan. 1st December 2015, 03:32 PM

Now this song is getting some well deserved megahype, time for me to create a thread about one of my favourite songs of the year! Dua Lipa was born in London and her parents are ethnic Albanians who were from Pristina, the capital of Kosovo - Dua reportedly moved back to Pristina for a couple of years in her early teens. We all know Albanians and Kosovans are amazing, look no further than several Albanian Eurovision entrants, Bebe Rexha and Rita Ora! heart.gif

I can guarantee that the majority of you will have already known Dua for a couple of years now, however you probably won't know why. She was the star of the advert for the 2013 series of X Factor! When I first saw the advert I loved her voice and immediately remember google searching her to find out her name.

Anyway, Dua released 'New Love' a few months ago and is what I assume is now being called a buzz single. It wasn't totally to my cup of tea, however I saw loads of potential in her with that song. And I knew I remembered her name from somewhere, and after a quick Google I realised it was the girl from the X Factor advert I loved many months ago!

But then just over a month ago, Dua debuted her latest single 'Be The One' which is one of the best pop songs of the year. It feels so fresh, a few tropical vibes in a fantastic pop production and you can't help but clap along to the chorus. What a tune! Dua has now been nominated for BBC Sound of 2016 and today 'Be The One' was Radio 1's Track of the Day and she has already zoomed up into the iTunes top 50! ohmy.gif I really hope Dua does well in BBC Sound of as I think with regular airplay, 'Be The One' is a future top 10 hit at least.

This is EXCELLENT heart.gif Surely will be massive? Deserves to be anyway!

Posted by: Ryan. 10th January 2016, 03:20 AM

This is nearly top 10 on German iTunes! ohmy.gif heart.gif

Such a shame she was overlooked in the BBC Sound of poll, with the hype of doing well in that this could've been at least a top 40 hit I think!

ffs, this deserved to do so much better sad.gif

I love this song but doesn't she have a new song coming out super soon?

Posted by: Liаm 29th January 2016, 11:00 AM

Yep, Last Dance on the 5th Feb!

Posted by: Dan_ 30th January 2016, 08:35 AM

'Be The One' is a proper tune!!! shame it's not doing anything.

Posted by: Ryan. 22nd November 2016, 10:06 PM

Looks like this is heading for a re-release, Dua seems to be teasing a new music video featuring Ansel Elgort (The Fault In Our Stars, Divergent) on social media. I've been expecting this to happen at some point and I think it is the right decision!

Posted by: Joe. 22nd November 2016, 10:08 PM

Yessss. Perfect choice. Smash this time.

Posted by: UltraBasicWitch 22nd November 2016, 10:08 PM

Yassss! Really hope this can become the smash it deserves to be!

Posted by: Chez Wombat 22nd November 2016, 10:14 PM

This is still easily her best song (her releases have just gotten progressively worse, Blow Your Mind was crap), I really hope it can at least make the top 40 this time!

Posted by: Juranamo 22nd November 2016, 11:44 PM

This is actually my least favourite of her singles to date, I'd have rather seen a 'Last Dance' re-release, but I guess this was inevitable. It's not a bad song, it just lacks the punch that her other singles have imo!

Posted by: Ryan. 27th November 2016, 10:28 PM

Dua performed this on Xtra Factor so that all but confirms this is indeed her new single!

Posted by: twentyonemdh 27th November 2016, 10:32 PM

Oh this is going to feel weird being a hit considering most of Buzzjack has already loved it for a year :,) Still a good choice, nowhere near the brilliant Blow Your Mind [Mwah!] though.

Posted by: SevenSeize 27th November 2016, 10:43 PM

Thank god her best single is returning to kill everything in its wake *.*

Posted by: Jack 27th November 2016, 11:35 PM

Isn't this already available to download? I can't imagine it being a hit then really.

Posted by: Ryan. 27th November 2016, 11:39 PM

It is, but it's not really too different to any other OA/OS release - it just won't get a headstart with the initial boost of the fanbase buys like when Hotter Than Hell and Blow Your Mind got into the 20s on iTunes. But they both dropped out of the top 50 before airplay got going I think so I don't think already being available will be detrimental as long as it gets the same airplay support as her previous two singles have had.

Posted by: Jack 27th November 2016, 11:40 PM

I think she would have better off with something new to launch the album really. Her fans are already aware of this and I don't think this will grab people like we think it will sad.gif. When I saw her live it sounded like she had a lot of potential hit singles as well.

Posted by: Ryan. 27th November 2016, 11:42 PM

I wonder if Europe will get a new single while we are trying with Be The One again, I'll be intrigued to see how good it is if so and whether they've made a mistake here.

Posted by: jase. 28th November 2016, 12:11 AM

sad.gif As brilliant as this is let's move onto something fresh please!

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🕊 28th November 2016, 12:48 AM

I'm wondering why Warner is pushing "Be the One" now in the UK when they could have done it after "Last Dance" didn't do a lot as they expected and it was having some success in Europe and Oceania. Personally, it would have better to do that, but I assume her label is trying to capitalize her overseas success with this song to launch the album instead of a new track.

The rest of European countries and Oceania will definitely get a new single. I mean, it will dumb from Warner trying to push again "Be the One" when it reached the Top 10 in Australia and the Netherlands for example. However, I'm not confident at that if it's considered how Warner is. drama.gif

That said, I guess it's a guarantee that the German speaking countries (Germany, Austria and Switzerland) will get a new one because she's signed with Vertigo/Capitol there and they aren't going to re-release "Be the One" there. Another possibility is that they may try to push a previously released song from her ("New Love" or "Last Dance", even "Room for 2" in a lesser extent) if they aren't allowed [*] to release a new song. If this is the case, it will be interesting to see which track they think it will be the best to promote the album, considering that "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)" will not be that one.

[*] In the hypothetical case that Warner has more weight in the decisions about releases than Vertigo/Capitol and Warner doesn't want a new song from her to be out before the release of the album.

Yeah, they have really been bouncing around with the single releases -- very messy release strategies thus far. I agree that they should put out something fresh and push it worldwide. I do think Be The One could be a big UK smash though, at least more so than any of the other existing options.

i think this is proof that she is done...when you have to revert (wobblingly) to your first single to push/launch your debut era suggests your people have run out of ideas / a path to launch you via...she clearly has appalling a&r that has failed her. she can hang out with claire maguire, little boots for the school of major label falls

claire maguire

Elizabeth Taylor looks like it could be a hit for her.

Posted by: mAddy Xmas! 5th December 2016, 06:12 PM

first I thought this looks high budget (for her standards) and why would she spent money on it when she already had a video, and then Lexus car came in and you know that she gave no penny for this lol.

I am over this song to be honest, when i saw her in concert 2 weeks ago she sang 2 other songs that I never heard and they sounded amazing ohmy.gif

...or they'll probably just stick to "No Lie" like the US is going to do when BYM eventually peaks there

Still don't get the appeal to "Be The One" anyway

I wouldn't agree with this actually! Be the One never got a proper push in the UK, not to the extent of Hotter Than Hell and Blow Your Mind (Mwah), and it has proven popularity in other countries so I'd say it could be quite a smart move. Most of the general public won't know it's an older song anyway I expect!
