BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ Predict: Where will 'Melanie C' chart in the UK?

Posted by: Jay* 5th September 2020, 03:43 AM

How well do you think 'Melanie C' will do in the UK chart?

Feel free to reply with a more specific prediction for chart position, and predict its first week sales if you like!

We will find out in October who is closest to being right. cool2.gif

~~~~~
This week it took 5,818 sales to reach #10 / 3,833 to be #15 / 3,473 to make the Top 20.
Melanie C's previous album Version of Me sold 4,084 in its first week (to reach #25), which would have been enough to chart at #13 this week. The #25 album sales this week are 3,108.
On Friday 11th October 2019 (the equivalent week last year), #10 sold 6,586, #15 sold 5,028 and #20 sold 3,470.
Emma's My Happy Place album sold 6,674 to reach #11 last year. That number of sales would have been enough for #7 this week, and #10 on 11th Oct 2019.
Do you think Melanie C will sell less or more than Emma?
Such a busy week for new releases! ohmy.gif
I think top 20. It’s a very busy week and some potentially big sellers there. Really wish she had released back in March April may time as I think she would easily have made top 10 then. 😓😢
I’m going to guess #14
Posted by: Jay* 5th September 2020, 10:18 AM
I’m thinking somewhere in the Top 20 too... I’ll predict #15, and in the region of 5,000 sales.
I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again(!), I believe that Melanie completely mistimed when she announced the album and started the preorders, unfortunately. Who I Am & Blame It on Me gave her some of her best radio exposure ever, and there was a lot of online promotion that coincided with that, but it feels to me like she squandered a lot of goodwill by not having the album details confirmed back then. Over the past month, I’m sensing that it’s mostly only her hardcore fans that would be very aware about the forthcoming album. I can’t imagine that many casual listeners who enjoyed hearing Who I Am & Blame It on Me months ago on Radio 2 will know that she finally confirmed the album.
The annoying thing is that she could have very easily had a preorder ready to go as soon as she released Who I Am. thinking.gif There was no reason not to. You don’t need to have a confirmed track list / title / artwork to put a preorder up. Bad planning!
I know this is a pessimistic post, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that things pick up for her over the next month and that she’ll prove me wrong. If Melanie does make the Top 20 then that’ll still be a nice achievement after so many years, but I sadly think she’s blown her opportunity to get a Top 10 - and like Spiceboy says, I think that could have been quite a strong possibility earlier this year.
Top 20.
Think with the amount of versions she could have been top 10 in less busy week and earlier in the year.
I’m going with #11
Top 20
Posted by: Rob90 5th September 2020, 02:33 PM
#9 6262 sales
I am also going for Number 9.
If it misses that, I think the disappointing Number 11.
The effort going into this album with multiple formats and bundles feels it will return Mel to the Top 10.
A midweek Top 5 placement looks very achievable.
Top 20
Had she released a bit earlier, I would say she would be with a chance of Top10, but seeing that list, I think she will be Top20 at best...
And she will probably sell around 6k, similar amounts to Emma. At least Mel has promoted extensively across the world so I would imagine that she will sell well across other territories as well. But it is good to see her finally with another chance at visibility in the UK too.
I do hope she sells enough for a Top10, but I highly doubt it!
Top 15 but I think she has a small chance of top 10
Posted by: JaneJ 6th September 2020, 05:48 PM
Top 20, actually Top 15
Posted by: Babyboy 6th September 2020, 08:48 PM
I hope for a top 10 but most likely top 20.
#12, 6k
I suspect this will go T25 but I hope it does a lot better.
