For SIX episodes with both Gillian and David BACK too. No word on when it will air but I'd assume it'll be midseason 2016 at the earliest.

QUOTE
Thirteen years after the original series run, FOX has ordered the next mind-bending chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, six-episode event series which will be helmed by creator/executive producer Chris Carter with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson re-inhabiting their roles as iconic FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. This marks the momentous return of the Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning pop culture phenomenon, which remains one of the longest-running sci-fi series in network television history.

The announcement was made today by Dana Walden and Gary Newman, Chairmen and CEOs of Fox Television Group and Chris Carter, creator and executive producer of THE X-FILES. Production on THE X-FILES event series is set to begin in summer 2015. Further details remain under wraps and will be announced at a later date.

“I think of it as a 13-year commercial break,” said Carter. “The good news is the world has only gotten that much stranger, a perfect time to tell these six stories.”

“We had the privilege of working with Chris on all nine seasons of THE X-FILES – one of the most rewarding creative experiences of our careers – and we couldn’t be more excited to explore that incredible world with him again,” remarked Newman and Walden. “THE X-FILES was not only a seminal show for both the studio and the network, it was a worldwide phenomenon that shaped pop culture – yet remained a true gem for the legions of fans who embraced it from the beginning. Few shows on television have drawn such dedicated fans as THE X-FILES, and we’re ecstatic to give them the next thrilling chapter of Mulder and Scully they’ve been waiting for.”

THE X-FILES originally premiered in September 1993. Over the course of its nine-season run, the influential series went from breakout sci-fi favorite to massive global hit, and became one of the most successful television dramas of all time. The show, which earned 16 Emmy Awards, five Golden Globes and a Peabody Award, follows FBI special agents Scully (Anderson) and Mulder (Duchovny) as they investigate unexplained cases – “X-Files” – for which the only answers involve paranormal phenomena.

I've only seen like a few episodes of it (though I do aim to watch most of them eventually as it's right up my street), but looking forward to these nonetheless!

Really? ohmy.gif

I used to adore this show. I had all the boxsets back in the days when VHS was still a viable option. I'll be watching this for sure.

Some of the reviews from the screening of the first new episode are pretty rotten, which is disappointing.

Well I'm not sure what to make of the new X-Files debut.
Everybody in it seemed thoroughly disinterested in the idea, the script was terrible, the whole premise was utter nonsense (and slightly insulting) and it felt like the last 15 years had never happened.
But despite all that I really want to see the next episode now.

I didn't bother watching. The trailer looked rubbish and it seemed to be a continuation of the finding aliens theme which I didn't really fancy. I know that sounds odd but in the first few series it had interesting one off episodes with intriguing and very different stories... shout me if it goes back to those.

Apparently it does as of episode 2, which has had good reviews, and by all accounts episode 3 - Mulder & Scully Meet The Were-Monster - is an absolute corker.

I agree that the writing was shockingly poor but I still kind of enjoyed it. Gillian is so watchable! David looked thoroughly bored though.

Pulled a 5.1 in the ratings, which is higher than the season finale. It'll be interesting to see how episode 2 does.

I was a big X Files fan wub.gif

I haven't watched the first new episode yet, but I'm very curious, so surely I won't miss it. I might wait though until all 6 episodes are aired and will watch everything at once laugh.gif

The 2nd episode IS better, but not up to the shows heyday. Having said that it is the X-Files and episode 2 didn't feel worse then an average 90's episode.

The premiere actually ended up with an enormous 6.1! Episode 2 bagged a still very impressive 3.2 as well. If it can hover around the mid 2's for the next few episodes I have no doubt Fox will bring it back again.

I'm probably going to watch all 6 back to back once it's all done, but I'm quite excited now given the generally positive response beyond the first episode.
