Everyone's favourite Robyn cover artist laugh.gif returns with his first proper single.

Posted by: HarryEzra 18th November 2016, 10:00 PM

I am probaly going to be the only hyped to hear this but *.* cant wait

Posted by: jase. 18th November 2016, 10:10 PM

I can't abide his Robyn cover but he's got a nice voice so I'm intrigued to hear what this is going to sound like!

Posted by: Ryan. 18th November 2016, 10:14 PM

Cover of this please *.*

Posted by: lewistgreen 18th November 2016, 10:16 PM

Apparently it is most definitely an original song

Posted by: twentyonemdh 18th November 2016, 10:25 PM

I'm hyped, surprisingly.

Posted by: slowdown73 18th November 2016, 10:40 PM

I hate his version of Robyn's song. Her version is far better.

Posted by: Danvember 18th November 2016, 11:33 PM

hopefully this isn't as dull as the Dancing On My Own cover, but that's probably asking too much

Posted by: Liаm 18th November 2016, 11:42 PM

This can't be as bad as what is one of the worst, most soulless covers of all time.

I do actually like his voice and him so if he pulls off a good song I'll be behind it, it's just my hate for that cover is all consuming laugh.gif

Posted by: Riser 19th November 2016, 04:43 AM

Having 'rhythm' in the title usually means an uptempo song, so that alone is encouraging! I liked Dancing On My Own to an extent but excited to hear an original song nonetheless.

Also having 'dancing' in the title shouldn't have been so depressing lol.

Posted by: Lukuzz 19th November 2016, 10:20 AM

Really wasn't a huge fan of the cover song but I do think he has a good voice so I will give this a chance!

Posted by: slowdown73 19th November 2016, 05:24 PM

There seems to be a lot of people who don't like his version of Robyn's song but its still shifted over 1 million including streams which is crazy for such a bland cover version.

Dancing On My Own was an amazing cover, this should be good!

Posted by: awardinary 20th November 2016, 11:33 PM

He does have some very good vocals, so what he could come up with could surprise us all... ohmy.gif

Posted by: Ryan. 25th November 2016, 12:07 AM

This is a solid effort! Nothing exceptional and exactly the sort of thing I expected but sounds like another hit and deservedly so.

Posted by: ___∆___ 25th November 2016, 02:16 AM

Love this on first listen! Streaming until that 59p reduction comes kink.gif

Posted by: Jake 25th November 2016, 04:46 AM

good for him releasing a jess glynne cover!

IKR? biggrin.gif

I prefer his audition performance on BGT, but the studio version of the song is good too. Never understood the hate for it here on Buzzjack sleep.gif

This is #18 on iTunes right now. Not sure yet what to think about it.

Posted by: mr_pmt 26th November 2016, 01:52 PM

I did actually think the BGT performance was excellent, but the studio version of it was spirit crushing and excruciating.

Annoys me no end that it by far outperformed Robyn's clearly superior original, but at least she will have got extra trickle sales as a result and royalties as the writer of the song.

The original of DOMO is absolutely awful. Calum made it tolerable

ohmy.gif To me that's blasphemy.

I'm not denouncing your opinion at all, but Robyn's original is such a seminal piece which conveys the emotion of heartbreak in a raw way... Calum's version strips it of its meaning.

THIS.

Sorry but Calum's version is an abomination and an absolute insult to the original.

Exactly! I don't like her accent, the backing vocal or the rhythm.

Callum's version is way more emotional. Compared to his version, that will obviously remain the remembered one, the original seems like a cheap dance remix.

90% of Buzzjack disagrees with me, and I've come to the conclusion that's the case cause they are mad that the original didn't receive the same reception cuz a lot of people are her fans.

You probably know the original for a few years now and you got used it. Meanwhile, the 1st time I heard the song was when Callum performed it on BGT.

Maybe that's why our views on this are so different.

Video for this is out today hopefully will have some sort of effect.

I like it, its a good follow up and really quite catchy hope it is a slow burner like Dancing On My Own was

Posted by: Ryan. 19th January 2017, 01:02 PM

I prefer Calum's version of Dancing On My Own to Robyn's original too. Never been a fan of Robyn, I find her voice bland yet annoying and there's a distinct lack of "the X Factor" for me and she's so overrated by online music forums. I like her version of Dancing On My Own (it's her most tolerable song) but Calum's beats it for me.

Posted by: Liаm 19th January 2017, 02:06 PM

I'm sorry but I simply cannot at anyone thinking his version is better laugh.gif Each to their own and that but he sounds like he's having a stroke singing it and it sucks everything out of the original. I'm not even a huge huge fan of Robyn herself per se, she's good but I don't hate the song just because I'm bitter that it overtook her version. I hate it because it's an awful arrangement. He could've wrote his own bland singer-songwriter song :/

It's just a very non-descript and unaffecting cover really. I could tolerate it slightly more if he didn't sound like a distressed cow when singing the word 'town'.

Rhythm Inside is better, for sure, but it's nothing particularly riveting really. To me his whole persona and material comes across as boyband member gone solo album filler from 2006.

Locking it isn't enough, it should be cast into the Mod Quarantine area drama.gif

Posted by: mr_pmt 19th January 2017, 05:51 PM

That's kind of it in a nutshell, his version literally zaps all the meaning from the song. It's like he's not even connecting with the words he's singing.

Posted by: ___∆___ 20th January 2017, 02:31 AM

Surprised they are still pushing this - They have released another stand alone remix version of it today (That's 3 separate remixes, acoustic version and the standard version now available) plus the video is out too.

Even being track of the day on R1 only resulted in it climbing to #99 on iTunes so can't see this being a hit even though it's a decent follow up to DOMO.

Posted by: Bjork 20th January 2017, 09:32 AM

I actually like his cover, the stripped-down version works... but still, cannot compare to the original, which Robyn did sing from the guts... it's a bit like comparing Alexandra's version of Hallelujah to the original, Alex has a great voice but she sang it like a shopping list, of course she was never gonna connect or sing from the guts a song about being horny and wanting to cheat... some songs just shouldnt be covered

The sad thing is that a great majority of the British public would probably think the opposite. sad.gif For instance, this comment on Robyn's YouTube video page for DOMO: "Calum knew the emotion in the song unlike the singer/composer.. The lyrics are good. But the beauty of the song can only truly come out if The singer/Composer felt what it meant. And Calum Did exactly that...". drama.gif

For the record I don't hate Calum's version, it's ok, but his take on it makes it sound like he's given up all hope, whereas Robyn sounds so much more defiant, and I prefer that sentiment. (Summarised nicely by another YouTube comment: "This original version has so much fight and passion. The cover is for victims." kink.gif )

Randomly back in the iTunes chart at #105 - Are they still pushing this? They should have moved on to the next release already.

Posted by: lewistgreen 5th March 2017, 05:58 PM

Impact date has been pushed back to 28th April so it has plenty of time to do something/get playlisted

Posted by: Jonjo 5th March 2017, 06:01 PM

I'm really annoyed that this wasnt a hit for him. Coz we'll probably get more, terrible covers from him puke.gif

What a random release strategy? The single was released and charted in December, the video released in January, it was track of the day on R1 in early January and impact date is the end of April? They have also released 4 versions of the song (2 remixes, acoustic and single version between December - January).

Posted by: jase. 5th March 2017, 08:28 PM

Hmm, I wonder if they've pushed it back so they can have him perform it on the BGT live shows?

I mean even so, surely they might as well release another new track as it's pretty obvious at this point that Rhythm Inside is going nowhere any time soon? the impact date is ridiculous, if nobody would have said otherwise I'd have thought it was some point in December or something.

-x-

shame this has done nothing, I actually really like it, which is a surprise considering how horrendous Dancing On My Own was.
