BJSC 118
27th • 147 points

With exactly the same position and number of points as when we were last in the final with Lika Morgan, Croatia Squad managed to get us out of the bottom ten by the end when it was looking likely we'd finish there so that's a decent result, although still not a hit. Amazingly, 4 flops in a row is our longest flop streak since 2016 (BJSC 84-87), so we're due a hit next time. angel.gif

Wow, what are the chances of Lika and Croatia Squad getting not only the same position but also the same number of points with their recycled entries laugh.gif

'Ven Pa Ca' did grow on me quite a bit, ended up in contention for squeezing a point or two but didn't quite make it, glad that it did qualify at least.

BJSC 119: Richard Durand & Christina Novelli - Save You

This month we welcome back to the contest one of trance music's finest vocalists Christina Novelli. The British singer teamed up with Dutch DJ Richard Durand last year for 'The Air I Breathe' which was voted Tune of the Year by ASOT listeners. They reunite with 'Save You' which is this month's Danævii entry, giving Durand his first BJSC appearance. Novelli previously represented the country back in the Danaelanda era with 'Same Stars' which was an unfortunate DNQ, though previously made the final with the song she is perhaps best known for, 'Concrete Angel' with Gareth Emery. If you'd like to see this give us a 2nd consecutive final appearance following our recovery last month then don't forget to give us a few points.

BJSC 119
11th • 198 points

'Save You' brings us back into the top half of the scoreboard giving us our 4th hit of the year. It all depends on our next entry to see if we can get a 50% hit rate for 2019 which would match the hit rate of 2018. It is the 2nd entry of ours to finish just outside the top 10; our first was Shadow Child & Doorly 'Climbin' (Piano Weapon)' back in BJSC 70 - nearly five years ago. At the time we still hadn't had any top ten hits so it's fair to say we're a lot happier with 11th this time around. It also becomes Christina's biggest hit in the contest, beating 20th which 'Concrete Angel' achieved for Kylienips alongside her two DNQs.

Any fans of 'Save You' may also like her new single 'Beautiful Life'.

As always, all our entries stats can be found in the OP.

Danæviia turns 80: Danæviia Entries Rank

As Danæviia passes 80 entries and as we're coming to the end of the decade it's about time we counted down which of our entries are the top sellers in Danæviia.

We of course still have one more entry to come before 2020 but I have a big personal chart EOY/EOD to get to in the near future and this would otherwise get lost.

Which of our entries will be considered the best then? It could be a track by a big Danævii act such as Avicii, Oliver Heldens, TheFatRat or Gareth Emery, or maybe a huge track by a lesser name.

It definitely won't be our debut...

81. Danny Dove & Ben Preston – Falling (feat. Susie Ledge)
BJSC 35 [2011]
Contest Position: 25th
Danævii Sales: 37,900
Danævii Chart Peak: #42

Some countries get it right on their debut but our first entry was definitely not it. We actually intended on sending another track but soon found out it had already been sent so I just picked another track from the R1 Dance Anthems playlist to get an entry in. We'd soon find other ways of finding new music though and it got better from then. It was actually one of our better performing entries in our first 10 entries though, as it qualified. laugh.gif The song itself is not bad (none of our entries are!1) but not all that memorable in comparison, fairly standard progressive trance. Susie Ledge would later feature on a Denis Kenzo track (though not the one of his we sent) which is a lot better.

Should this track have done better? Which Danævii faves do you want to see high? Our Spotify playlist has most of our entries available.

Danæviia turns 80: Danæviia Entries Rank

80. Adrian Lux – Burning (feat. Dante)
BJSC 47 [2012]
Contest Position: DNQ [19th]
Danævii Sales: 130,100
Danævii Chart Peak: #30

79. Oana Tache – Take Control
BJSC 46 [2012]
Contest Position: DNQ [17th]
Danævii Sales: 160,600
Danævii Chart Peak: #13

78. Airsoul – Asia
BJSC 44 [2012]
Contest Position: DNQ [18th]
Danævii Sales: 206,900
Danævii Chart Peak: #27

77. Arty – It's All Relative (feat. Jenson Vaughan)
BJSC 59 [2013]
Contest Position: 24th
Danævii Sales: 227,400
Danævii Chart Peak: #3

76. Richard Durand and Christina Novelli – Save You
BJSC 119 [2019]
Contest Position: 11th
Danævii Sales: 249,100
Danævii Chart Peak: #1

The top 80 starts with three entries from our very early days, we have to get all these out of the way first.
'Burning' was alright though for Adrian Lux I really should have sent 'Teenage Crime' instead, it probably would've done better. Not too exciting of an entry so no surprise it didn't perform well.
'Take Control' was from back when I was trying to find entries from Cat Music, which had worked for BJSC 45 but we were back to flopping in 46. This entry particularly hasn't aged too well and should really be right at the bottom.
'Asia' was a random find from Ministry of Sound's YouTube account, a decent enough instrumental trance track but we'd send much better tracks of that description later on.
'It's All Relative' was an instant smash for me which led to me sending it but it grew off me fairly quickly post contest. Arty has quite a few better songs (especially now) and maybe one of these days I'll get round to sending one of those.
'Save You' is of course our most recent entry and isn't done racking up sales yet so this low position is fairly misleading, but it overtaking five entries already in under 2 months is impressive. I can't see it going on to be one of our absolute faves but it is brilliant anyway.

Danæviia turns 80: Danæviia Entries Rank

75. Radio Killer – Don't Let The Music End
BJSC 41 [2012]
Contest Position: DNQ [16th]
Danævii Sales: 257,200
Danævii Chart Peak: #9

74. Elena – Disco Romancing
BJSC 36 [2011]
Contest Position: DNQ [20th]
Danævii Sales: 329,000
Danævii Chart Peak: #11

73. BH – Hold On (feat. Aloma Steele)
BJSC 67 [2014]
Contest Position: DNQ [18th]
Danævii Sales: 334,500
Danævii Chart Peak: #2

72. Riot – Overkill
BJSC 116 [2019]
Contest Position: DNQ [21st]
Danævii Sales: 352,900
Danævii Chart Peak: #2

71. Full Crate x Mar – Man x Woman
BJSC 62 [2014]
Contest Position: DNQ [26th]
Danævii Sales: 362,400
Danævii Chart Peak: #5

A whole section of DNQs now, we need to get most of them out of the way first but we'll come to some more hits soon; the next section contains two top 20s!
'Don't Let The Music End' was our first entry since coming back from our four contest hiatus and we haven't left ever since. It didn't perform particularly well however continuing our streak of DNQs we started in BJSC 36 with...
'Disco Romancing', another Cat Music find like DLTME which was our second entry and first DNQ although it seemed to go down better than 'Falling' as it performed well in Rejects that year. Both of these are good by the standards of Romanian dance pop for the time though they don't hold up compared to our later entries.
'Hold On' was a random YouTube find and mostly sent because we didn't have anything better although it briefly performed well in the Danævii chart. It also started the curse of having Aloma Steele on a BJSC entry with it being the first of three DNQs for her, though this one was unlucky to DNQ in the first place finishing 18th in a semi of 30 before the rules changed.
'Overkill' has a similar story though I also wanted to send something a bit different to usual. It's great but won't be going down as a Danævii classic.
'Man x Woman' was another failed experimental entry for us becoming one of our worst performing entries ever, it was probably too subtle to be a hit. It's rather nice but this position is about right for it.

Danæviia turns 80: Danæviia Entries Rank

70. Andreea Banica – Could U
BJSC 48 [2012]
Contest Position: DNQ [24th]
Danævii Sales: 371,400
Danævii Chart Peak: #10

69. Quintino & Alvaro – World In Our Hands
BJSC 54 [2013]
Contest Position: 27th
Danævii Sales: 375,900
Danævii Chart Peak: #7

68. Tiësto, Mark Alston, Baggi Begovic & Jason Taylor – Love and Run (feat. Teddy Geiger)
BJSC 58 [2013]
Contest Position: DNQ [20th]
Danævii Sales: 383,800
Danævii Chart Peak: #1 (x2)

67. Mediate – What You Do
BJSC 73 [2015]
Contest Position: 16th
Danævii Sales: 403,100
Danævii Chart Peak: #2

66. Flume – Insane (feat. Moon Holiday)
BJSC 52 [2013]
Contest Position: 12th
Danævii Sales: 406,900
Danævii Chart Peak: #10

'Could U' was Andreea Banica's 2nd appearance for Danæviia in the span of four contests and she still holds that record (we prefer to wait at least 2 years to recycle acts now). It wasn't quite as good as her first one though which was reflected in its result.
'World In Our Hands' was discovered from Spinnin and sounds very much like what you'd expect from a Spinnin discovery for the time, it hasn't aged all too well.
Likewise for 'Love and Run' entered four contests later though this one has a bit more going for it. It became one of the few tracks to drop from #1 to outside of my top 10 in a week however so that #1 peak wasn't really deserved.
'What You Do' followed my first top 10 success and we were on a roll with it being our 4th of 5 consecutive top 20 hits. It's my least favourite of that bunch though with it being just above average for a pop house track.
'Insane' gave Danæviia our highest position yet which would take over a year to better although I preferred many of my flops from the time. It's held up a lot better than quite a few of my early entries though and remains in my top three fave tracks from Flume now.

61. Ruffneck – Everybody Be Somebody (Lucas & Steve Remix)
BJSC 69 [2014]
Contest Position: 31st
Danævii Sales: 492,200
Danævii Chart Peak: #3

'Damaged' was another flop from our early days, though tracks like it yet to come would soon qualify there wasn't enough of an audience for this sort of thing then.
'Same Stars' became a rare flop in our peak era, being the only DNQ we had in 2015 (we'd eventually have three years with only a sole DNQ). It was one of our weaker tracks of the year however.
'Move Into Light' is a lovely progressive trance track that we found the year earlier then ended up sending after a rediscovery.
'Shining Heart' became our first top 20 hit although back then 18th wasn't top half of the scoreboard. A nice dance pop track which we were doing back then.
'Everybody Be Somebody' is a groovy house track and introduced me to Lucas & Steve who soon became one of the big Spinnin acts.

BJSC 50 [2012]

Danævii Chart Peak: #1 (x1)

'Love Has Gone' was our first drum n bass entry as we decided Cat Music finds weren't gonna give us any more hits.. and this didn't either.
'Bad Girls' was one of our most obscure entries, finding it randomly going through soundcloud I think, not one I go back to often but it has a good drop.
'Seve' was one of our most unjust flops (and really should be higher in this countdown too) being a unique house track for us and especially considering it soon became a Eurosmash with well over 100m Spotistreams.
'Carry Me To Paradise' became one of our early and unlucky DNQs, I really liked it at the time but it hasn't aged too well like most of its genre.
'Touched' was a surprise Q for us and is also my fave entry of 2012 (and yes, all of 2012 has been kicked out now), introducing me to EDX who continues to rack up Danævii hits now although this is more trancey than his current material, it's got really lovely production that builds throughout.

Flume should really be a bit higher but it’s based on my chart sales and I definitely understand that entry at the time.
surprised that anyone remembers Airsoul too.

I wouldn’t agree but if only it had qualified to give me a whole year of Qs which we are still yet to have!

I hope Save You does move up from here because that position does feel too low.

Overkill deserved to qualify, and my favourite from the list so far is probably Move Into Light, which was entered before I joined the site but I did also like at the time!

It'll be a fair bit higher by the actual end of the decade, I'll do a quick update then.
I think there's a few you may know of from before you joined too. If you like Move Into Light you may also enjoy the EDX track anyhow.

'This Heart Is Yours' started our 2014 as it meant to go on with a hit and was a rare trance entry for the time.
'Fire Breather (Remix)' was a lucky YouTube find and sadly never got a Spotify release, it's a good bit of progressive house.
'Emerald Princess' was of course our most recent win and appears what is perhaps surprisingly low. I love it, although it is 11 minutes long so there was less replay value. Definitely a one of a kind type of entry from us anyhow.
'Time To Say Goodbye' was one of our two DNQs of 2016 and is also the first song from that year to drop out. It's a beautiful song though.
'Boss' is probably my least favourite song in this section now oops but it did rack up the most sales. It's a fun big room track very much helped by the catchy Vassy vocal but not the type of thing we'd go for now.

41-50 hints:
- two tracks released prior to this decade
- one of our least dancey entries
- and a song that finished in the top five!

'Feel The Love' was a good piece of generic dance and it gave us our 2nd top 15 hit.
'Mystery Land' was a great 90s trance track and fairly unique for us, I found it earlier in the decade and held it off as a potential for a while before getting the chance to use it as an AQ although it clearly didn't need one.
'Get Away' was a rare synthpop entry from us, it probably wasn't dancey enough for our brand but I still think it's lovely anyway.
'Summerbreeze' was a great uplifting dance instrumental and one of our most unjust huge bombs before getting some justice in YBO Flops.
'Sky Is Falling' was one of our harder entries and a great example of how melodic hardstyle can be done, Darren Styles would soon have another entry that performed better but this was the better one for me.

Feel The Love was another one I really liked at the time, remember hearing it often on Dance Anthems! Still sounds good now too.
