Where do you gets these really old playlists from? Strange how you can have a A list and the a C List lol! Old issues of Music Week magazine online. It's really interesting how some years had no B-List and some no C-List! I think it was the mid 90s when they fully stuck with A, B, and C Lists. |

Really enjoyable to see them! I would imagine nowadays the DJs are much more controlled in what they play!

Does anyone know if New Beginning by Bucks Fizz made the R1 Playlist?
I'm figuring their early stuff did as radio rather liked them, but wondered if their short-lived comeback was supported? It would have been around the time of this playlist. |

Pretty sure they supported Shakin Stevens and the likes in the 80s so I would guess yes.

but Eurythmics on the other hand only C-listed when it was their comeback single no wonder it underperformed :/ |

New Beginnings was a big airplay and media hit for Bucks Fizz, they were promoting like crazy after Jay had left and they'd recruited new member local lass (here in Dorset) Shelley.
The great thing about 1986 Radio 1 playlists was the lack of ageism in it. You had Sandie Shaw, Rod Stewart , Rolling Stones, Patti Labelle, and Status Quo, all over 20 years in the biz, and the range of genres was wide. Current Radio 1 playlist? Coldplay, Pink, 20 years old, maybe David Guetta (and they are the only acts ever likely to get played) and the last 2 had to be paired with current acts to get on the list. Obviously they are focused on a younger demographic these days, but it's the black & white assumption that younger listeners can't cope with a great track by an older act (eg Cher in 1997 was 32 years into her career, and was HOOOGE!) that bugs me... |

EDIT: I see 2006 ones in the UK Charts forum ooh |

It's good that Bucks Fizz were supported one last time on radio. I remember they were everywhere on TV and magazines. Shame they messed it all up again by releasing an ill-advised cover of Love The One You're With.
