So we have a title for Ben's first single it seems "Second Hand Heart". He landed in Nashville today to film the video.

According to his Facebook Q&A its out in October, which would tie in with the first XF live shows.

That's quite the coup for Ben, I mean Kelly is hardly a guarantee of a hit but it's given me approximately 100% more interest than I had before I clicked on new posts a moment ago in the future career of Ben Haenow.

An interesting duet on paper - Kelly Clarkson is still very much deemed relevant by R1 so I can seem them potentially picking this up.

Simon will be trying to promote a fair few acts around this Christmas time then: Ben, Fleur, 1D, Little Mix and there's always the possibility that Olly Murs will jump on the opportunity for an album re-release or new lead single. I reckon he'll try and push Fifth Harmony on UK X-Factor too.

The release dates are going to be interesting. I have to assume they are going to be sensible enough to not have their acts clashing and fighting for chart positions on the first week of release. Not much time to play with though.

Well Olly is doing on air, on sale with his new single so depending on what Friday Ben chooses and if radio takes an immediate shine to it he should be OK. I know Little Mix have released some tracks from their new album already too but their next single proper probably won't be till November.

Well for Ben I'm guessing he will perform on the live shows first weekend (31 October). The Friday being the 30th for the single release. I think that's a couple of weeks later than normal for the first show, so the week before is a possibility. Just depends how they want to play it. Assuming this schedule is correct.

I guess there are a few options, live performances are not always "live" so they could mime if Kelly can't sing as she would want to or Ben could just sing a version of the song by himself. I'm sure Flo-rida wasn't with Alexandra Burke on all performances of Bad Boys for example. I guess we have to wait and see how big Kelly's part is and if it can be changed if need be.

Pregnant women aren't allowed to fly from a certain stage in their pregnancy can they? So I can't see her being present at all. It could ve one of those things where she is on a live feed or something, possibly? but yeah we'll see how big a part she has on the song, all else fails and he'll have a solo version, won't he?

Yes that's right, I think its the last trimester, so after 6 months into the pregnancy. I'm not sure how far along she is. But all the reports say vocal rest until the end of the year, so doubt she will be able to sing. I guess they could play the video and have Ben do his parts live. Bit of a shame all round really. But yes I'm sure he will have a version he can sing without her after all he will surely be doing other promo and I doubt even if she was well she would have followed him around to every performance.

I am so glad Cowell seems to be right behind Ben as opposed to his attitude to most previous male winners. I don't condone his treatment of them but as a fan of Ben I'm pleased he's not being thrown under the bus!

I'm quite surprised to see that Ben has just under half a million Facebook likes already. That's impressive and is only likely to grow when he actually releases something. So maybe his career will actually hold some relevance and actually become a genuinely good career and not a flash in the pan, one big hit sort of one.

This is a UK single, it's her first collaborative single in the UK. I am fully aware of how many collaborations she's had.. (My initial username on here was IheartKellyC - I am a huge fan) And none of them have been released over here. To the general public this is the first time they have seen/heard Kelly collaborate with someone and I think it'll be nice to see how that goes down. When does the full song première? It'll be interesting to see if Radio 1 playlists it. I don't know how old Ben is but Radio 1 don't want to playlist many artists who are over the age of 30 - especially pop artists. Still, a guest slot on XF could do wonders.

What I mean is Radio 1 are desperately trying to cater to the teen demographic and I don't think Kelly fits that criteria anymore. But obviously she still gets supported by them - probably due to her still being very successful Stateside.



I know. I think SUBG is one of those songs that people who don't follow the charts would assume had gone to #1 back in the day. BOY and BTHE should've charted higher too.

I think Breakaway's album sales negate the fact none of the singles went to #1, although she still got 3 sizeable top 10 hits with decent chart runs.

I know what you mean with R1 though, they didn't playlist 'Since U Been Gone' and it was something of a "surprise hit" at the time, Breakaway had a slow start but stabilised with 'Behind These Hazel Eyes' and obviously went stratospheric at the end of the year.

Plus R1 have been reluctant to support her on several other occasions too (the My December era, Already Gone, Catch My Breath, Underneath The Christmas Tree)

I didn't know Radio 1 originally ignored SUBG. I can kind of see why they were reluctant to support some of those examples - 'Already Gone' followed up a disappoining #36 single, I've kind of noticed Radio 1 are hesitant to playlist the lead singles of Greatest Hits albums (or at least hesitant to give them much support - e.g. Madonna, Christina Aguilera) and I don't think they playlist Christmas singles anymore. I think they played both 'Underneath the Tree' and 'One More Sleep' a lot back in 2013 but neither were playlisted.

Just a PR excuse I should think, rather than "we've realised we haven't planned this as well as we could've done" or "we're not very confident with our release strategy so we want to premiere it a few days before". So I guess they either want to do that premiere a few days before or realised that it was going to be a little too long between the release and potential music videos and X Factor performances.

Such a bummer and it could be any of these, my hunch was the music video wasn't ready but who knows! If this means it gets a bit of airplay before the release date that will be better in the long run. Only yesterday he tweeted he couldn't wait for us to hear it on Friday. I actually dm'd Ben about this why wasn't it being premiered before the release date. Maybe he listened lol

Another possibly more obvious reason is that Syco don't want to release Ben and Olly's singles at the same time, as Olly will no doubt do better with initial fanbase buys and therefore make Ben look worse than if he wasn't releasing against Olly - so they've pushed Ben back to a week without any established Syco acts to compete with.

This sounds really great. Can see Heart/Capital getting on board quite readily (X-factor winner + Kelly Clarkson should ensure that). Radio 1 too. I think this song will actually be quite a big hit!

Not surprised with the push back though - I assume it's mainly due to the live shows of X-factor this year starting later?

Yes the schedule of the live shows seems to have messed with everything. I don't think the first live show is until the 31st October. Normally the winner releases their single the weekend of that 1st show much earlier in October.

I've only listened once (going to again shortly) but I think if Radio gets hold of this its gonna do really well, good on first listen and will grow even more. I love Ben solo parts and I also love Kelly voice (but I always do)

I like the production and the lyrics are kinda decent, Kelly is flawless as ever on her solo bits, but my GOD, Ben's voice is painful, especially as the song progresses.
Their voices don't go together either, which is offputting.

It's decent in a 6.5/10 kind of way. Although that is very much what I expected from him.

Catchy enough, will probably be a hit. Doubt it's a #1 though.

I quite liked that actually. I can hear bits that sound reminiscent of 'I Lived' by OneRepublic in there which isn't a bad thing really. Can't see it going anywhere near #1 like what's been predicted in the chart forum tho but I can see it going top 10 for him possibly after the inevitable X Factor performance!

Ben's voice sounds very weak on it. His part is a bit shit to be honest

Kelly's was fab. However I do feel her part is too tame for her. Hopefully it grows with a few listens

I was thinking the same thing, she doesn't get any real oppertunity to show of her voice, she just plods along. If you get someone with so much talent on your song, let them show
off their skills, like she does in her duet with Josh Groban *.*

The last few years haven't adhered to this actually! Little Mix and James Arthur both had their first singles out before the live shows and performed single #2, and Sam Bailey didn't have a single to promote as such but her album was out well in advance I don't think the live shows have mucked up anything with regards to this release actually!

Fair enough, I didn't really watch the show for a couple of years and lost a bit of interest during the Little Mix year and James Arthur too. I thought the standard was pretty low (personal opinion) and I was annoyed at all the manipulation. I only started watching again regularly when I saw Ben in retrospect last year. The live shows are later than usual though and leaving Ben's release until early November would have been a little late imo. . I'm sure they would have preferred to launch it on the show if possible given the boost it gives.

Wasn't a fan of Ben at all on the X Factor but had very high expectations after the many fantastic previews we've had over the past 2 or 3 weeks. Now I've heard this in full and it is as fantastic as I hoped, Ben and Kelly's voice match perfectly and it screams radio smash - I hope this does really well!

Oh I'm really liking this. Kelly could've been used to a slightly better effect/to what she's more capable of, but I'm very happy with it! But tbh, this is what she needed to do as it's more to showcase Ben's abilities. Looking forward to seeing the video.

Yeah, very strong debut, I don't love it on first listen and I doubt I'll ever be crazy over it but it's solid which is what I was hoping for. I'm delighted he's gone down the OneRepublic that the show set him off with from the winners single as I think it's a very wise lane to keep him away from Olly but away from going too rocky and therefore not commercial enough. Should do well for him and I'm glad as I grew to really like him on the show.

Just heard this, his voice stil sounds stupidly weak on record :/ In theory it's a good song though, athough I agree Kelly's bit isn't knockout enough to make me love this as much as I normally do with her. For how absolutely intolerable he was on the X Factor though this isn't bad

There are rumours that Ben is releasing an acoustic version of Second Hand Heart on the 30th October. If this is the case will the sales all count the same like they do when a deluxe version of an album comes out or will it will 2 chart entries? Can any of you clever people confirm?

This makes sense as he has been hinting at a "surprise" when he performs it on the show and the first live show will be that weekend.

Yep an acoustic version (or any other remix) still counts, as long as it's the same song it will be all combined into one version. If there was an original, club mix and acoustic mix and you buy all three, a song will get 3 sales.

i don't really understand why kelly is on this? what brings them together, especially on a lead debut single. the link is so tangible and ultimately pretty clot. it doesn't do anything to distinguish him as a solo being and only serves to push him towards the male-winning curse and adult contemporary debut before a flushing...

this deserves far better than a #21 peak, this is a really good first proper single by him and contrary to some I actually think on paper him and Kelly's vocals shouldn't go but actually do, they work together nicely imo

To be fair I don't think it helped that his microphone wasn't switched up enough volume wise. It wasn't exactly his fault the set up was terrible. I think he knew it as well hence why he missed a word or two out in the chorus towards the end.

Anyway pleased it's going to be top 10 on iTunes in a few minutes. If only his streaming wasn't shit.

Fleur may peak higher in her first week as she has an X factor performance on week of release to boost her. Long term who knows.

I'm also reading that Sax will be on the Asda Christmas advert. Seems they are looking after her better to me.

I agree with Gooddelta also. its a great song for radio and should be getting much more airplay. The Olly Murs song for example is getting loads of airplay as usual and Ben has kept up with it pretty much on itunes with barely any. Airplay is all important.

He should have gone on a radio tour throughout October for the single and instead of dragging the second of the judges houses live shows out, he should have just performed last week. It's all going a bit wrong for him.
I bet when Kelly was forced to drop out they knew it would be doomed and thought 'f#*k it'

He did a mini radio tour first week of release. Some Heart regional stations and a few other "minor" ones. No Radio 1/2 or Capital etc though.

Just feel like he needs more TV. Yes he had last night but I didn't feel he performed to his best. Its amazing looking at comments last night the amount of people saying "where has he been" when its been out for 3 weeks now.

This has been #1 in South Africa, just like Something I Need was, he seems to be huge there.

If he's willing to relocate he could probably make a substantial career for himself over there if this album tanks in the UK.
