John Lewis Christmas ad to feature Oasis track?
by Coral Williamson

This year's iteration of the John Lewis Christmas advert could feature a cover of Oasis' Half The World Away.

The song is said to be in the running for the 2015 campaign, although according to the retail brand, nothing is yet confirmed.

A spokesperson said that "a number [of tracks are] still under consideration", adding: "Speculation about every element of our Christmas advert happens every year. However we can confirm that at this point in time, neither the track nor the artist have been confirmed."

Marketing, who first reported the 'industry whisperings' last week, also noted that the advert usually airs in the first week of November - so we'll know more details soon.

Last year's campaign saw Tom Odell take on John Lennon's Real Love in the Monty the Penguin spot. 2013 had Lily Allen cover Somewhere Only We Know for the animated The Bear and the Hare ad.

monty was just adorable, it's hard to see how they can outdo last year's campaign~

It'll be interesting to see who ends up singing this. The original is a great track and is the theme to the hit series 'The Royle Family'.

I recall Annie Mac calling Chvrches out a few months back as they were seen leaving a prolific studio. They joked about recording the James Bond album, but obviously since that was long-given to Sam Smith, I wonder if they've been pulled into record the John Lewis ad song. Not sure how I feel about them covering Oasis though.

I'd already been thinking about what links that might provide biggrin.gif A new entry in the singles chart for New Order would be good, for example.

"She's In Fashion" is just calling out to be John Lewis-isized. Whether that would be a good thing or not is very much up for debate though.

Good choice, although I would change my mind if they chose Susan Boyle.

while monty and the advert was really cute, the song/Tom O'Dull was awful.

with 'Half the World Away' being used the song at least should be better than last year's.

I love Tom Odell anyway but I honestly think with a different song, the Monty ad would not have been the same. It was all the perfect adorable package for me wub.gif

I'm excited to hear this year's song, the last few especially have been fantastic heart.gif

When i first saw the title of the thread i was like please not wonderwall. Im a fan of Oasis but i hate the song with a passion. Half the world away is a great song and i look forward to hearing a new spin on it.

Leona said she's in the studio recording a cover tomorrow. Said she can't wait to share it with us soon, perhaps she's recording the song for John Lewis?

I can't see this happening this year tbh as Thunder's impact date is the 13th November right? Would seem odd to promote Thunder with a John Lewis track out at the same time. I am guessing it will be a cover for her YouTube channel like Only One. Would be happy to hear Leona on the ad if she could get it. biggrin.gif

The advert airs on Friday 8am online according to the Telegraph.

Just realised that I didn't see the advert last year or hear the record.

Would be very pleased to keep it that way this year too.

The artist is Norwegian singer AURORA, very inspired choice and very excited to hear the song now!!! wub.gif

So am I - I'm glad they've went for a less popular artist this year!
