"Circus" was the 2nd single from the album "Circus". Released at the end of 2008, it gave her a top3 Hot 100 hit, another #1 in the top40/pop radio charts. In Europe it reached the top20 in most countries, settling at #13 in the UK. What are your thoughts on the song/video? |

One of my favorites from her discography...the verses, the bridge(one of the best bridges of all time LOL), the chorus and the music video ...everything was perfect.

Great song, deserved better than it's #13 peak here in the UK. Personally I'd place it in my top 15 of fave Britney songs. Also love the album, there were so many fantastic tracks on there and it's probably her last great album.

Also love the album, there were so many fantastic tracks on there and it's probably her last great album. Unfortunately by then her popularity in the UK was starting to dwindle. I loved this also, easily my favorite single from the album (personal chart #1). |

Adore this and think it's really under appreciated and under looked nowadays. Agreed with the comment that it's possibly her (and in general) best bridge of all time. I'm surprised it didn't take off more in the UK! I think it had all the makings to be huge and it's not like her popularity was low at the time of releasing this.

I never got into this or understood its appeal, I loved most of the album but Circus passed me by.

I love this, for me it's about 100 times better than 'Womanizer'. Great single! The peak it got in the UK was annoying but it hung around really well and sold an impressive total didn't it?

It's a good pop song but I think it's chorus is just not good enough.

'If U Seek Amy' was too basic (plus, I agree about the radio edit butchering it got). It really should have been 'Out From Under' or 'Unusual You' at that point. 'Amnesia' would've been a nice 5th/final single, in an attempt to get people to buy the deluxe album (although I think the UK only got the deluxe version tbh)

Back on topic: Circus is probably my favourite Britney single post-breakdown. Its production is everything, especially that guitar from the bridge and the fact that is pure pop. The video is also one of my favourite ever from her too. |

I personally really liked "If U Seek Amy" as a single and song overall, and along with "Circus" (the song), those two were both the singles that represented best the whole Circus concept (listen to Amy's instrumental and you will know what I'm talking about).

Top 20 when half the song was cut isn't bad... especially for Britney's nowadays standards.

This track really cemented her comeback. It also symbolizes something pop music has lost, and that's a story. Britney Spears and her discography is iconic because of the story it tells. This single and album signified the end of Britney using her music to represent her personal life.
We call 'Femme Fatale' shallow, yet great. But, why? Because she was no longer letting us into her world. She realized that was what was slowly killing her and her love for this industry. 'Circus', the single, was her realizing the spectacle she had been turned into. It was Britney Spears' realization that she had let the buisness turn her into something she promised she would never become... A victim of her own success. We act like Britney has just slowly lost popularity, but that's not the case. If it were she wouldn't still be making millions by doing a stationary show and reviving an entire venue along with an entire city... That city being Las Vegas. Who followed her? Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, etc. Britney Spears is the X Factor and the definition of pop culture, without even trying. If she wanted the #1 smashes all she would have to do is spit herself out there for modern media. She's in a place where she realizes her money making power, but she doesn't have to sacrifice her freedom to match up with contemporaries. She's not desperate for attention like Madonna post COADF. She's not trying to run a circus. |
